Good summer spot with a pretty deep menu of frozen treats. Note they only serve vanilla and chocolate soft serve ice cream. They have an item that is comparable to a DQ Blizzard on the menu plus your standard fare of shakes and sundaes. The malt was good but not the best I've ever had. In peak season there is typically a long line of cars at the drive through as well as in the parking lot. Tip: park in the church parking lot to the west of Snookies.

This ice cream shop is very good. Every time we drove by there was a line of people. Tonight we finally stopped and ordered some treats. I was very impressed how fast the lined moved and we actually didn't have to wait that long. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We accidentally got there about 2 min before they closed and every one tested us kindly and even helped explain some items on the menu. All of our ice creams were good and tasted very good. I would like to come back with the whole family. Worth a visit for sure!

All the nostalgia plus great Ice cream! Snookies never fails to please whatever your sweet tooth demands. Pleasant service and a quaint inside seating area if the weather is disagreeable. (It was empty on our pleasant summer evening visit.) Park around back and walk up or do the drive through.

Just as great and yummy as it was when we lived here 20 years ago. Love Snookies. My adult daughter reminded us of Snookies and how much she loved walking up to enjoy sundaes, ice cream, and malts with a cookie on the straw. So we stopped to enjoy it again on our vacation. This place is wholesome and delicious. I typically order a Snickers, cheesecake bites and gummy bears in vanilla ice cream 'arctic blast' and they do not skimp on the toppings or the ice cream one bit. An elderly man, who we assumed to be the owner, saw us eating ice cream with our small child and he gifted us a free pint of ice cream for no reason at all. That's the type of place this is! (Super photogenic scene as well, imo)

A Des Moines staple. Fun place to take friends and family for a cold treat to beat the summer heat. They have lots of different flavors. I went with traditional chocolate malt. Super tasty! Lots of outdoor seating and easy to walk to.

Going through the drive-thru kind of made us nervous. When we all go out as a family our simply meals are always messed up or missing. Now saying that, it was so nice going through here with 6 adult and 10 items total, they brought out our ice cream and everything was correct and so yummy!

What a great place for ice cream treats. I had the chocolate ice cream dipped in peanut butter! Delicious. And they put a little animal cracker on it, too! So cute! Baby cones available and I think dog ice cream but we only brought a baby.

We enjoy Snookies a lot because it's in our neighborhood and locally owned. We like supporting small businesses and we've been coming here for 10 years! Their ice cream is decent for the amount you get and price you pay. We especially enjoy their chocolate peanut butter malts and ice cream cones with birthday cake dip! That being said, it's always driven me a little crazy that they don't mix up their Arctic Blasts (which are similar to Blizzards.) They fill a cup with ice cream and then put the toppings on, but don't mix it up. It's more like a sundae than a Blizzard. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nice old fashioned ice cream shop. They accept credit cards now. Right across from Price chopper. There's plenty of parking in the back. The drive thru is very tight and the line tends to spill onto the road.

Had been there once before. Had a chocolate malt last time which I thought was good. This time I had a banana split. It was not very good. The vanilla ice cream in it tasted foamy and not like quality ice cream. The bananas were on top which makes no sense. The plastic it comes in is too small. There were minimal toppings. Short on chocolate and strawberry toppings. Overall just not good. My malt was a 5 the banana split was a 1. Quite disappointed this time.

Felt like an expensive dairy queen. Good ice cream for sure. It seems like they are well established in the neighborhood but the prices seem higher than what I expect to pay for what I get. Just my two cents. There are a couple other local places that I've enjoyed more with more reasonable prices. I'm only taking off a star for price since they still offer tasty treats!

I loved this "old school" ice cream place! Like a blast from the past! The only negatives were that the parking/drive through was a little confusing and the outdoor seating was too close to traffic for my comfort. Otherwise, great prices, yummy ice cream, good size portions, and nice employees! Will definitely be back, despite the half hour drive!

As an out-of-towner this was a super cool old school ice cream place that im glad we found. Milkshakes were excellent creamy and smooth. There blizzards were great too tons of toppings. They have a huge selection of flavors. Ice cream, malts, shakes, blizzards, and other non- dairy deserts too.

Delicious! I had the apple pie arctic blast and it was very yummy! They told me this Fall they were thinking about closing down around October this year since they do not function in the winter. Get your seasonals while you can! There is a drive through as well!

My boyfriend suggested this ice cream place and it was absolutely amazing! My son picked out the kids blue raspberry dipped cone which he ate in probably less than a minute then he moved onto my perfectly made strawberry malt and that is now gone as well! I'm so glad to find an ice cream place where the ice cream actually tastes like ice cream. I will definitely spread the word this is the place to go!

I haven’t been to Snookies too many times, but I remember it being better in years past! Maybe they changed some of the recipes but my staple (chocolate malt) wasn’t great when I went there a week ago. I’ll definitely be going back but hope it was just a fluke incident. It’s nice to have a good neighborhood ice cream shop that uses real malt powder!

We loved getting I've cream at Snookies! It is very well run and delicious! The line was wrapped around the building when we arrived at 9pm, but service is so quick that we didn't mind the surprisingly short wait! Very friendly staff and smoke outdoor seating to accommodate a lot of people. Just what we needed tonight and we will definitely be back to explore the Beaverdale area a bit more next time. Found this place via yelp and when we arrived it was very busy. We figured it might be because it's a local hot spot and it's been on the news. We waited for 20 minutes in the line for pretty generic soft serve. They only take cash and check, and the orders were prompt but filled out of order. I got a turtle sundae and my partner got a chocolate malt. My turtle sundae was swimming in hot fudge and caremel so the soft serve was half melted into soup before I could eat it. Honestly couldn't tell you what the fuss is all about.

Took my daughter on a nice 2 mile walk with Snookie's Malt Shop as our midway point. The service and shakes were great. We will make it a regular outing for our walks. For the best service pay with small bills ($1&$5's) cash and please make sure they are all facing the same way. The nice lady at the window thanked me for that.

Cash Only! Mainly outside seating (inside seating area is sometimes open on the weekdays). Pretty standard ice cream fare: Cones (sprinkles/dipped), sundaes, malts, shakes, etc. Just find a spot to sit, order your favorite treat and enjoy! If you aren't walking, parking is limited. Park across the street at the grocery store or around the corner at the church parking lot (Beaver & Franklin).

A very nice little shop that brings a small town 1950s feel to a relatively 'big' city in Iowa. The ice cream was great, I'd recommend stopping by to anyone in the area. However, you should be aware that they only accept cash/checks. No credit/debit cards are accepted.

Cool little ice cream shop in Beaverdale. Lines can get long during busier parts of the day, and there's not really enough room for a drive-thru, to the point that I'm shocked it even works. Dog friendly, kids seem to love it. The ice cream is good and prices are reasonable.

One of our absolute favorite places to go for a treat. Snookies serves soft serve ice cream, various specialty sundaes, and my favorite: chocolate malts. My kids love choosing between vanilla, chocolate, or twist, and then they can choose to have it dipped or crunched. And, of course, Snookies always serves it with an animal cookie out the top.

I'm guessing the hype is more nostalgia. The ice cream truly is not good. The service is doing the best that they can for 14 year olds. It's worth the walk to get ice cream and sit in the rockers to eat.

Snookies is a neighborhood icon and legend. Kid and dog friendly. Slushies, dipped cones, sundaes, splits, blizzards, and hot dogs. There's a drive thru but most people like to walk there and hang out on the variety of outdoor seating while interacting with their neighbors. Two things to note - they only accept cash or local checks and they serve soft-serve not ice cream.

Was my first visit to Snookies. Would give a rating of 5 stars if serving size was in line with other shops. Absolutely delicious product, but serving sizes are ridiculously small, making for a very expensive outing. Will not stop me from return visits, however. Delicious!!!!!

Always quality ice cream and treats. A very well-known and popular hang-out in Beaverdale area of Des Moines. You should expect a little bit of a wait in line to order, as the place stays pretty busy most evenings after 6pm....however pickup of your order is very quick at the second window. They also have a drive thru for those that would rather stay in the car and take it to go. Dogs are welcomed - and free "puppy cones" are made available - so if you are not fond of pups, you may want to take that into consideration.

We are Beaverdale residents & stopped by with a couple friends from out of town at 9:57 PM (Friday evening) - their Google hours say they close @ 10. There was about 4 other tables of customers sitting outside enjoying their ice cream at this time when we got there. As soon as we walked up to the window, the employees turned off the lights & locked up the windows. Look, I understand we got there right before closing. But at least give us the common courtesy to maybe open the window and say "Hey guys, sorry - we are closing up for the night." Now I've got friends who are disappointed and certainly not going to want to give this well-known Beaverdale establishment another shot. I know your ice cream is good ... Not sure if it's the training of the young workers who were there that made this go bad or what. Maybe consider handling this situation differently next time, we want to keep supporting Snookies!

Snookies is a wonderful malt and ice cream parlor in Beaverdale Iowa. It is family owned and has become a very popular place to go after games and various school events. Everyone becomes very sad when it shuts down for the winter after the Beaverdale Fall Fest, and thrilled when it opens again in April.
