Unique and fun experience! Beautiful atmosphere owned by a local family. This is a must try if you love ice cream and are looking for a cool experience. I will definitely be back! Way too many combinations and options not to return again and again!

First time having a paleta & it did not disappoint. The Monarca is unique and a great change from normal ice cream establishments. The staff were very friendly and kindly walked through how everything worked. The hardest part was deciding what flavor to get!! Highly recommended for a sweet treat not only due to the fresh ingredients used but the beautiful decor inside and so many flavor combinations available.

Loved the Paletas we tried. There are many flavors to choose from, fruity and creamy both. Then you get to choose your dipping sauce, and then sprinklers and then an additional glaze of a different sauce. The service is nice and the ambiance cool.

This place is dangerously delightful. The gal that helped us was amazing. Cheerful, informative, quick and professional. Everything made in house and truly divine. I don't have the energy to describe everything I got on my vanilla paleta but it was phenomenal. Nephew had strawberry cheesecake with oreo crumbles. Yum. Ordered 2 smoothies to go. One watermelon, one mango/lime. Didn't like them as much, because I believe they have something besides sugar. 😂 We will be back!

Have been here many times and always enjoyed our Paletas. They are a mix of ice cream and a popsicle. So many flavors and combos, you will not get bored with them. Place is always exceptionally clean and bright. My favorite are when they have special ones (Marzapan has been my favorite flavor so far). I have also enjoyed the Lime one from the water based. 5 star - Need to go! Would go out of way to come.

Stopped by at random while in town for work. This was a very satisfying bite. Staff was wonderful - young girl at the front did a nice job explaining options. I got the coconut paleta dipped in dark chocolate topped with almonds, and it hit the spot. I wish there was a shop like this where I live because I would definitely be back to try every flavor. They have a pumpkin spice paleta for all y'all pumpkin spice fanatics.

Monarca tends to always have a line, but that is a clear sign that this is a place worth waiting in line for. My husband and I recently went here for the first time and were instantly impressed by the way the staff was handling safety measures and how friendly they were to the customers. When it was our turn to order, we had a general idea of what to expect, but were asked if we had been there before... we had not, so they gave us a brief history of the business and the best ways to order, and also gave some recommendations for flavor combinations based on what we were leaning toward. In spite of how busy they were, the staff took time to give each customer personal attention. That is commendable, memorable, and left us both feeling that it would be a place we would frequent again. And the paletas? C'mon, now... you can tell from the other reviews how wonderful they are. We weren't feeling dairy so much on our visit, so we opted for a more fruit sorbet style bar with a sort of spicy sauce on top, which ended up being perfect for a blazing hot day. All in all, it is a place to visit again and again. And I almost forgot to mention the artwork on the walls... just incredible.

This was our after dinner treat. We have heard a lot of great things about this place and I can say they are all true. There was a lot of people when we arrived and they got us right in and through in no time. I got the Oreo pop and it started just like milk and cookies. They have milk and water based treats. Milk based pops are more ice cream in texture and the water based are more of an icy texture. I got the dio and drizzle, I would highly recommend doing that for the full experience.

We love this ice cream place. It’s just so different from others. My daughter and I had been before but this time we brought dad and friends. Everyone loved everything they got. I got my regular (I really need to try something different). Here’s what we got....... Strawberry Cheesecake Dipped in dark chocolate (it’s not too bitter) so if you don’t care for dark chocolate just give it a try. Topped with graham cracker crumbs Oreo dipped in milk chocolate with hazelnut and topped with graham cracker crumbs and drizzled with chocolate. Fruity Pebble just plain.....yes the toddler got this one! Reese’s dipped in dark chocolate and topped with graham cracker crumbs. Reese’s dipped in nut butter and topped with graham cracker crumbs and drizzled with caramel.

Our paletas artist was absolutely amazing. She walked us through every step and explained the case of paletas and how they are separated by milk, water or yogurt based. After choosing the paleta she advised that we can dip it in white or dark chocolate, hazelnut, cookie butter or Nutella. Once it's dipped you have a variety of toppings to choose from as well as a drizzle on top! I decided on the Reese Paleta dipped in hazelnut, topped with coconut and drizzled in caramel. It was delicious! The paleta is not as sweet as your typical ice cream treat but was still amazing. I can't wait to come back soon and try a new combination. I bet the water based paletas would be a great treat on a hot summer day! Mango paleta, dipped in white chocolate and topped with coconut drizzled in strawberry... now my mouth is watering! Can't wait to be back!

This place is super cool. Ice cream popsicles, dipped & topped with lots of great additions. There were 5 of us and we all got different things. Here are my thoughts on each flavor: - Dulce de Leche: MY FAVORITE. Highly recommend dipping it in cookie butter. It was so good. - Dark Chocolate Peppermint: my 2nd favorite. Love dark chocolate and peppermint together. - Reese’s: easy to predict, but still very good. There is an entire PB cup inside. - Chocolate Abuelita: a spicy Mexican chocolate. Interesting, different, not horrible. A good choice for the more adventurous. - Coconut: if you like coconut, get it. Otherwise, don’t. UPDATE: tried two more today and GOT PICTURES. - Oreo dipped in cookie butter w/Oreo crumbs & sweetened condensed milk drizzle - Dulce de Leche in white chocolate with Oreo crumbs & sweetened condensed milk drizzle

There were many options for dips, drizzles, and toppings it was hard to decide what I wanted to try and I cant wait to come back and try something new. I only got a picture of mine (mango with a spocy/sweet seasoning similar to the popular tajin and drizzled with chamoy) but we had 4 different kinds, fruity pebbles covered in sprinkles, pistachio dipped in dark chocolate with pistachio pieces and drizzled with more chocolate, strawberry shortcake dipped in white chocolate covered with Graham cracker crumbs and drizzled with sweetened milk. There were sooo many different options. One that I want to try is a s'more paleta, where its dipped in marshmallow creme and toasted by flame, in true s'more fashion. It looked delicious.

From the service, paletas, and the atmosphere everything was amazing! Definitely became regulars within the 1st bite. The combinations are endless and everything is in house made, local and the business is family owned. You can dip and top with whatever you choose! I ordered: Pistachio dipped in white chocolate with milk chocolate drizzle topped with pistachios. Greek yogurt mixed berry mix dipped in white chocolate topped with pistachios. Fruit and yogurt with granola dipped in dark chocolate topped with graham crackers. Strawberry dipped in white chocolate topped with fruity pebbles. Seriously all of them were so good! I had a bite of each🤣

This is my new favorite place to fight back the summer heat. The paletas themselves are beautiful and clearly made by people who care. There was a nice variety of flavors and what appears to be some lower-calorie options. My first was passion fruit with condensed milk (recommended) and I tried a few others, like the cookies & cream. I was shocked by the depth of flavor in that cookies & cream paleta. The watermelon treat looked like a watermelon! I'm eager to attack it later in the week.

These delicious handmade paletas in a variety of flavors are a work of art. Fun dips, toppings, and drizzles to customize your treat, too - from chocolate to chamoy! I had the pineapple mint paleta, and it was so refreshing. We also tried the passion fruit with condensed milk drizzle and the Oreo paletas. Each was unique and tasty! We're already planning a return trip later this week to try more. Beautiful store, too, with a fantastic mural.

This place is incredible. I had a dulce de leche paleta wrapped with a fresh cooked waffle, dipped in cookie butter and sprinkled with oreo. It was so delicious! The fresh made waffle cone is really really good. The ice cream has this almost chewy (like soft caramel) texture to it that I absolutely loved and have never experienced anywhere else. I don't know how they do it! I highly recommend this place. 12/4/21- went for round two. Did not disappoint! Beautiful visually and excellent taste. You MUST get it wrapped in a fresh cooked waffle cone. Yum!

The restaurant we ate at was out of creme brulee so we decided to venture down the street to Monarcas. Much to our surprise this was the BEST DESSERT EXPERIENCE! The ice cream popsicles are hand made and are delicious. You can pick from a pretty wide selection from Oreo (which is a Oreo popcicle with an entire Oreo frozen inside it!!), To Reeses (yes, of course the PB cup is frozen inside), to coffee, berries, and yogurt. From there take your popcicle to get dipped. I chose the dulce de leche made s'mores style topped with graham cracker and drizzled with caramel--highly recommend-- they torch the dipped Marshmello in front of you which turns the popcicle into the perfect consistency. Service is excellent. Even though the line may be long, please wait because it's fast and it's worth it. Don't forget the join their members program before your first order! Can't wait to go back.

Monarca is a welcome surprise. There is an ample selection of fruit based and milk based paletas to choose from as well as an amazing variety of flavors to dip into, sprinkle on top and drizzle on your chosen paleta. There are other amazing surprises to try so I will be back for a sweet reminder of my native country. Definitely a great place for a casual meet with your familia, BFF or SO. This is sure to be a DSM favorite!

This place is awesome! Fresh, delicious flavors like you have never had before. The person working the counter very polite and patient. As soon as I said it was our first time in, they offered to give us the "run down". Amazing service, and didn't feel rushed by them and was helpful with suggestions if asked. This will definitely become a every other weekend trip. I had a pumpkin spice Paletas dipped in cookie butter and topped with graham cracker, then drizzled with condensed milk and it tasted like a piece of pumpkin pie.

Found Monarca on our drive through Iowa and will definitely return! We got a dulce de leche paleta and it was creamy with a caramel swirl, and the right amount of sweet. We learned that everything is made fresh each day, many from family recipes. We wish we lived closer so we could visit more often!

Visiting from out of town. The locals all know where the good stuff is, and this is where they told us to go. I was not lied to. Had a lime flavored pop. The kids all shared a variety of cream and water based pops, some with toppings and some without. Had the luxury of trying a few different varieties, but will still be returning tomorrow to try the Oreo (no one would share that one :)). Service was excellent, and a nice history of the company and the pops came with a warm smile and welcome into the shop. If you haven't yet, you should go. Go now.

Wonderful dessert experience. Was waiting for an appointment at the neighboring cell phone store, saw the sign here, looked up paletas, read all the amazing reviews, and had to try. This is, without a doubt, the richest, most dense, frozen concoction I have ever had. Your thumb will get a workout trying to hold all the weight of a paleta. Clean, friendly, and pride are all evident here. I had a chocolate paleta, dipped in dark chocolate and Oreo and wrapped in a waffle burrito. Simply amazing. Definitely an experience. Highly recommended.

Tonight my daughter and I stopped by because she had heard there was a new place to try that was family owned. Oh goodness, was it good! I had the Paletas with a Reece’s Peanut Butter cup and the young man suggested butter cream sauce and nuts. My daughter had the Oreo with chocolate and crunches cookies. I’d take mine again! Wow! Awesome friendly customer service too! There was a line the whole time we were there and the one young man behind the counter was building great rapport with everyone. Wow, this is fantastic. Have driven by hundreds of times not sure what it was. So glad we stopped and checked it out. Kids were absolutely amazed by the flavor and options. Normally I let the kids and wife order then just finish what’s leftover, which is usually a lot. Well, bad idea this time as wife and both kids demolished theirs with only a couple bites for dad. We will be returning and I will get one of my own!

So happy to accidentally find this place while shopping nearby. Highly recommend! Having had paletas in Mexico this was awesome to have them so close to home. Great quality, absolutely delicious. Had the regular chocolate paleta with the smores (graham cracker and browned marshmallow) and would come back for that or just the chocolate! My partner had the kiwi and it was also extremely good. Customer Service could not have been better. The female that served us was wonderful, upbeat, introduced us to the store and freshly made in-house paletas. This is my new favorite "ice cream" store!

It breaks my heart that I live an hour away, but I will keep finding excuses to end up in West Des Moines for these paletas! 😍 With fruity, creamy, and rich options, there's really something for everyone. I've tried lime, strawberry cheesecake topped with graham cracker crumbs, and coconut - dipped in chocolate, topped with almonds and shredded coconut. AMAZING! It is always busy (obviously, because ... delicious) but the staff is efficient and extremely friendly. They're also very diligent with cleanliness - related to both food safety and the pandemic. Monarca Paletas calls it an "ice cream experience" ... it truly is! 🍨 Family owned - support local business! ❤💪

Absolutely incredible! Took my daughter there for a little treat. We had passion fruit with condensed milk. It has a condensed milk core. Oreo dipped in dark chocolate and sprinkled with crushed Oreos. And a fruity pebble drizzled with condensed milk and sprinkles. The Oreo and fruity pebble were very similar to an ice cream popsicle. The passion fruit was more like a frozen smoothie or sorbet. We will definitely be back.

"Gourmet" in the name is no joke. These things are as much art as they are treat. We stopped by minutes before close. I know, not a cool move. But my wife has been waiting for this place to open, and we were in the area.T staff (and owners) were so nice and seemed genuinely happy to finally be open. They have regular paletas, fancier paletas, and things to drizzle/dip them in. When you order a shake, they pull two paletas right off the line and use those to make it. You can also get a paletas done ice-cream-sandwich style. We tried the mango, dulce de leche, and a chocolate shake. They were all fantastic. I really want to go back soon to try the avocado, coffee, and passionfruit. They said they plan to do seasonal flavors. Even more reason to keep going back. Do yourself a favor: support this local business.

Whenever people tell you "oh they have great ice cream" referring to random local ice cream shops, you know just as well as I do that ice cream is ice cream. It is all the same. But Monarcas is definitely different. It is a unique dessert experience unlike any other in the metro. Pretty hard to describe so just know that it is worth every penny and you should go there tonight. You're not doing anything anyway so just go, you'll thank me.

The ice cream here is amazing, and all the options make for the most customizable treat you can find. Not only that, but both times I've been here the customer service has been top notch! The crowds here can ebb and flow a bit, so be prepared to be patient if you come when there's just one person working...but totally worth it! It can also be a bit messy for kids, so be ready to wipe some happy faces.
