The homemade ice cream was rich and really smooth! Scoops were also pretty decently sized. This is definitely a place I'll return to in the future. For my first time here, I shared a cup with my partner of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Gooey Butter Cake, and Strawberry. All were delicious!

Well Home Sweet Cone, Iowa! Delicious homemade ice cream that brings back some great childhood memories. Visited in a Friday night and it was packed! So many flavors to choose from! I ordered the vegan strawberry in a waffle bowl and Mr W ordered a salted Oreo milkshake with Heath bar blended in. Total came to $14.xx before gratuity. Shake was a 12oz cup. And my ONE scoop was huge. Very satisfying. Everything tasted phenomenal. I appreciated the plant based/vegan options. There was vegan strawberry and vegan Oreo. And cones were vegan. Service was ok. There were young workers and it was late. I could tell they wanted to go home and their hearts were not into serving customers anymore as it was getting close to closing time. They still maintained composure and served everyone. Shop decor was minimalistic and reflected a modern farmhouse feel. For seating there were: small kids’ tables and seats, bar height tables near windows and a few tables and chairs. Seating was limited when it was packed. Shop felt small when every table was full and a line all the way to the door. Overall I highly recommend a visit to Home Sweet Cone. Their ice cream is one of a kind in the Waukee area.

Home Sweet Cone has the best ice cream! The large scoops always has me leaving stuffed! Such smooth texture and amazing flavors to choose from in such a cute shop! The best dairy free ice cream I’ve ever found at an ice cream shop in Iowa! Every flavor I’ve had had been scrumptious and the options for vegan ice cream go way beyond Dole Whip and the lemon sorbet you’ll find at most places. Flavors change daily but they post on Instagram every day. There has also been at least 1 GF & DF flavor every time I’ve been. I had the GF/DF waffle cone today for the first time and it did take about 10 minutes to make from scratch, but was delicious once I got it. 10/10 recommend for people with special diets.

I would give this ten stars if I could! The staff were super friendly and patiently waited while I sampled several flavors before settling on the decadent dark chocolate raspberry and the refreshing mint Oreo! Both ice creams were jam packed with flavor and made only better by the deliciously crunchy homemade waffle cone! Definitely worth the wait and the five hour drive!

Home Sweet cone is absolutely the top ice cream shop in town in my book. You can tell the care that is put into each ice cream recipe - I have yet to try one that I don't like! They have a rotating menu that includes a variety of gluten- and dairy-free options, all served in *huge* scoops (or packaged as a pint, if you'd like). I'd start with the Salted Oreo if I were you. Can get very busy, but the staff that works there is so quick, efficient and friendly that I've never minded a little wait. Such a happy addition to the neighborhood!

I have stopped in twice and have been thrilled each time. The Banana Cream Pie was so delicious with rich flavor! Most recently I had the white chocolate peppermint that exceeded my expectations. I only wish I lived closer so I could visit more, but certainly will continue to stop when in the area!

I love this ice cream shop! I’ve never had a bad flavor and I’ve rented their ice cream cart for a private event — every single person raves about it and we only had four flavor options! Always look forward to new flavors to try. My toddlers are obsessed as well! Salted Oreo is hands down my favorite and it’s vegan!

Best ice cream I’ve ever had! I used to work in fine dining in Atlanta but this ice cream is the best I’ve ever experienced! The line might be long but it always moves fast and the customer service is great-they really make you feel welcome and don’t care how many samples you ask for! 🫣😂 They always have two vegan options, which is great for lactose intolerant people. Usually has high school kids working which I think is great! Everyone has to have a “first job” and lots of places are reluctant to give someone an opportunity if they have never worked before. Also, this is a woman owned/Veteran owned/locally owned business. I like supporting other peoples dreams when I can. So if you want great service, Amazing ice cream, and to support a small business then give this place a try. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

When I tell you the lemon Oreo ice cream in a waffle bowl with caramel topping is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I can't think of what the other Oreo ice cream was but the lemon left an unforgettable impression. I'm praying they'll come up with a gluten free lemon Oreo one because the way my diet is setup I'll be 600lbs because I want to eat this every single day! 🤣🤣🤣

We LOVE Home Sweet Cone! It’s such a great place to stop with family & friends! Our toddler adores the child sized table and chairs and loves how generous they are with her sprinkles! :) The ice cream is smooth and creamy, portions are generous and the waffle cones are perfect. Our go to is to share an ice cream flight with waffle cone pieces! Our family favorite flavors include banana cream pie, cake batter, Oreo flavors and butter pecan. We frequent here now and definitely recommend everyone check it out!

This is the BEST ice cream place in the metro. We try a lot of places and they all have their own unique specialties, but Home Sweet Cone is always consistently good ice cream. Yes, it’s on the expensive side, but the flavors are delicious and even though the line is long, it goes by really quickly. It’s the best ice cream in the Des Moines metro and something our city has needed for YEARS. For your reading pleasure, here are 5 reasons why you should come (and come often): 1) Locally owned, locally made. They make their own ice cream. They don’t buy pre-packaged tubs and resell it at a discount. This is legit stuff made fresh for you. 2) The flavor options are incredible. So many flavors. Such diversity. It’ll be months before I can taste test them all (yes, I will). 3) They have tons of gluten free flavors and (I think) dairy free options. 4) You can have your ice cream in a bowl, cone, waffle cone, waffle bowl, or with freshly baked cookies and brownies. 5) negative reviews about poor taste are insane. Negative reviews about bad hours are due to changes in the first few weeks of opening. Double check social media or call before going and you’ll be in great hands 🍨

I was very excited to find this place during a recent trip to Des Moines because it sounded like such a neat little shop - but I was disappointed. The ice cream was decent. Not spectacular and not bad. The serving sizes were tiny. I think I paid over $10 for 3 scoops that were each pretty tiny. The menu is confusing and the people that work there are not super helpful. I eat more ice cream than most people, but if I had the choice to come back here, I would not. Store bought ice cream is just as good and much cheaper.

Best ice cream in the area!! Don't let the 2 bogus 1 star reviews stear you away from this place. I've bought 2 pints a week for the last 5 weeks since I moved back to Iowa. The staff may be all high schoolers but they always give amazing service. Their ice cream is always great and meet the flavor expectations, and the waffle cones and bowls are to die for!! Definitely a 10/10 ice cream shop. And if you are going to get pints of ice cream, I suggest investing in one of their pint koozies, keeps your hands from getting cold, and you get a nice little discount for having one.

I had an overwhelming urge to eat ice cream and support a locally owned small business so you know I had to stop by Home Sweet Cone. It's been a while since I've been in, as I've been trying to lose a few pounds, but I officially hit 10# down this morning so decided to treat myself. And this is by far the best treat I know of--I have never had a more creamy, rich, or decadent ice cream anywhere. Every flavor is delicious!! And the service is just as good as the ice cream!! (to be fair, I did go during their actual hours of operation, which I think is key to getting the best service, I suppose that seems obvious, but maybe it isn't if you're someone who is so entitled that you think a small business should cater to your every whim no matter the hour). So glad HSC set up shop in Waukee, it is by far one of my favorite places to vist!

We make it out to HSC from the Southside of Des Moines at least once a month. The ice cream is wonderful, the employees are kind, the shop is always clean. The biggest disappointment has only ever been a flavor selling out before I got there, and there's still plenty of others to try. I finally tried Home Sweet Come today and am so glad I did! I had a coffee heath scoop in a waffle bowl. The heath bits were pretty big which added excellent flavor and the coffee flavor was strong and delicious. My husband had the orange almond in a waffle cone. He loved his as well. It was fun that they had unique flavors and the staff was very nice and friendly. We will definitely be back again!

If you're looking for dairy free/vegan ice cream and don't like coconut base, this won't be your place to come. But place was popular and staff was so nice!! They have cute mini tables and chairs for kiddos!! If you can have dairy, it is pretty smooth & creamy though.

I travel for work and go to many different ice cream shops. This spot is hands down my favorite and I drive out of my way to stop here. I just stopped in today for a triple scoop and a brownie. The portions are huge and I have yet to find a flavor I don’t like. On top of the best darn ice cream, the staff has always been friendly and helpful. Well staffed, despite the line we got our ice cream quickly and the staff was helpful and friendly. It's also a very cute shop. I love that they're open til 10pm. Three stars because...the ice cream was just bland. We split a flight of 6 scoops and only the coffee flavored one actually earned it's name. Between the two of us we opted not to finish the flight because it wasn't worth the calorie consumption.

My wife and I took our 3 young children there. The line was nearly wrapped all the way around the store. We still got through the line and had our ice cream in probably less than 10 minutes. The young girl behind the counter was a little rude, telling me to move out of the way in an inappropriately aggressive voice…but to my defense, I was the last one to order in my family and I’m sure she was just trying to move traffic along to get customers served. Ice cream was good, not nothing I’d go out of my way for again honestly.

Amazing little ice cream shop, it's so nice having the ability to get an ice cream cone as a vegan. They offer a couple of dairy free flavors every day, I am particularly fond of the mint oreo! The consistency is spot on and the taste is delicious, I believe they use coconut milk as a base and it makes for a very creamy ice cream. My hands down favorite is oatmeal creme pie and I would buy gallons at a time if I could. I loved white chocolate raspberry I tried recently and it’s a top 3 for sure. I also tried the almond ginger which I wasn’t sure I’d like since I’m not the biggest ginger fan but it was surprisingly delicious. Red Velvet is also a top for me. I love how they incorporate cake and not just flavorings. Birthday cake is also great - you can’t go wrong when it comes to this flavor! Salted Oreo is almost a little too chocolately for me but I’m not the biggest chocolate fan as is. I know several people that love that flavor. Same thing with Raspberry Chip - -too much chocolate for me personally. I also love apple crisp and snickerdoodle. They way they incorporate the actual pieces of cookie and cake and apples is amazing. You’ll love HSC if you appreciate home made creamy ice cream!

Writing review while eating it... I got cookie dough twist + dipped waffle cone bowl. I like that it isn't too sweet. I like that it is buttery smooth with just the right amount of flavor and content. Dipped waffle cone is nice and crunchy. Product was presented nicely. Price was a bit high but I would take that with this good quality. Place was clean. Line moved fast. Music was a bit too loud as I could barely hear the ladies behind the counter. Need to offer better spoons (Subbed with home utensil immediately).

Excellent experience today with my two grandchildren. This shop is still "working out the kinks" with staffing, hours, etc. so be forgiving. There are 15-18 flavors, all made in the shop, and if they are all as good as the three we had, that's great. Very clean with space inside for eating around tables with chairs, and a counter with stools. The menu board shows they use their ice cream to make malts, shakes, banana splits, etc. The young man doing the dipping today was very attentive to my 8 and 11 year-old grandchildren, and gave them tastes on disposable tasting spoons. Because everything is made to order, this may not always be "quick," but it is tasty!

I came in and asked one of the wonderful and friendly staff members what her favorite was, or more like which one she would recommend. She suggested the salted oreo, which was absolutely superb! I also asked if I could get a second scoop of the cookie monster ice cream on top of the salted oreo ice cream to see how it would taste, if it would differ. Let's say while they had similar themes they were very different in good ways. The cookie monster one came in a beautiful blue that tasted sweet original vanilla with yummy cookies of oreos and chocolate chip cookie swirled in. It was absolutely delicious and it kind of reminded me of cotton candy a bit because of the blue which I loved. 😍 Alas, as I dug further I got to the rich sea salted oreo, which I had never heard of, but was so glad I ordered, as it was the most scrumptious and sweet salty oreo adventure I'd ever been on. Just by the taste, I know I'll be going back for more. If it isn't hand- crafted I'd be surprised, as it tasted homemade and professionally done. I will be recommending this ice cream shop, HIGHLY TO anyone who ever is craving a sweet treat, or for a nice date night. It's the perfect place to take your kids for some authentic yummy deserts, and to hang out with friends and try new flavors and some classics! 10 out of 10! Highly recommended. 😊

Home Sweet Cone is a great new ice cream shop on the block! They have a variety of options that are different every day, including vegan/dairy free options. It is high quality ice cream and you won’t be disappointed. My only tip is to get there earlier in the day to make sure they haven’t run out of your favorite flavor.

Delicious but expensive. 2 scoops is like 4 somewhere else. Did I say expensive? 2 chocolate coated waffle cones with 2 scoops was over $18. You'll definitely won't make this a stop frequent in the summer especially if you have a large family.

They have lots of options and the prices are very reasonable. Scoops of ice cream are big and the inside is very nice and clean. I got 2 scoops of ice cream (banana cream pie and chocolate chip cookie dough) on a cone and I was expecting it to taste amazing, but it fell flat. I could taste the toppings in the ice cream, but the ice cream base itself was not creamy and had no taste. I was super disappointed.

This place is absolutely unbelievable, I have tried several of their flavors and they are all amazing. The waffle cones/bowls are amazing as well, and the staff are all super friendly. I would highly recommend giving this place a try, the only downside is the lines can get pretty long later at night, but it is worth the wait.

What a great addition to the Waukee community! You won’t find ice cream as fresh and high quality anywhere else in Des Moines.
