I really liked the different interesting flavours that they have. I got the espresso chip and olive oil in a cone. I always get “normal flavours” so I was getting out of my comfort zone by getting the olive oil flavour. I thought it would taste weird but it was creamy and not “oily” like I thought it would be. It didn’t really taste like anything, perhaps vanilla? without the vanilla fragrance, but I liked it nevertheless. I tried a sample of the goat cheese flavoured one but it really isn’t my cup of tea. Four of my other friends got 2 scoops each and they all got & liked the Italian custard flavour, which has alcohol in it.

8 flavors! 8 wonder of the worlds. This place is one of the best cream delights in Chicago Downtown vicinity. The taste truly worths the pricing and makes you melt in the fusions of thick cream. The way ice creams are really meant to be!

After hearing so many good things about it, I finally tried the Black Dog Gelato! 🥰 I visited the store when oddly there were no people, but I can just see this place being filled with friends, lovers, and families enjoying colorful & creative flavors of gelato. The staff was so nice and offered me different flavors to try; her recommendations were espresso chip and cantaloupe elderflower sorbet 🍨! I had espresso chip with raspberry rose — I was one happy customer, to say the least. I tried mint cookie and cotton candy (based on coconut), which I surprisingly liked! Do try this place when you are in the neighborhood or when you are in the mood for good gelato! ❤️ P.S. There is a great outdoor patio with cute lights too.

Love the gelato at Black Fog Gelato. They have a mix of unique flavors and classics. I like to mix a couple different scoops. Taste test a few because I was very surprised with the flavors I wasn't expecting to like. Good summer hours but they do run low on flavors later in the night. Especially on weekends.

Great Gelato. It was fun to try some unique flavors and the texture was heavenly. We weren't sure about the cantaloupe flavor, so they gave us a small scoop on top to taste it. It was a nice treat to go with the heavier creamy Gelato in the cup.

Perfect 5 stars. Great selection of flavours. The goat cheese is incredible. Sorbets are not too tart. Really like the salted caramel as well. I would say one of the best craft in-house gelato places in the city!

Artisanal gelato in the outskirts of Wicker Park. They make their gelato fresh daily and have a rotating set of flavors. Day old pints are sold at a reduced rate. Service was prompt and friendly. Highly recommended!

Good gelato at a decent price! Try their pistachio gelato. There isn't much more to say, they offer samples if you want to try. I bought by the pint, 3 for $15. Flavors are all deep but not overpowering. Staff were nice, but interior was a bit warm and limited seating. If you're in West Loop, definitely stop by for an after dinner treat!

We tried two flavours - smoky cherry chocolate and the goat cheese cashew caramel. Both flavors were true to their name and tasted exactly like advertised. super nice! I personally preferred the goat cheese flavor but if you like stronger chocolate flavors, try the cherry chocolate. Looking forward to trying more flavors - specifically the blueberry french toast!

I showed up in a large group close to closing which is the worst thing to see walk through the door as an employee. Sorry guys. Still, the staff didn't rush us, they were totally patient. We all tried a few flavors, ordered and got outta there very happy. The balsamic strawberry was to die for. My gf got the mint chocolate one and it was fantastic too. I'm sure if I had more time to try other's they would have been just as killer. I'm not local but if I'm ever in the area again, I'm going back. Definitely recommend checking this place out.

The staff were lovely. I tried the goat cheese, malted vanilla, and strawberry balsamic flavors. The vanilla and strawberry didn’t really taste all that different from vanilla or strawberry ice cream, I didn’t taste any maltiness and the balsamic was pretty subtle (maybe not a bad thing). The goat cheese one was my favorite, and I don’t normally like goat cheese ice cream.

There are much better options for frozen treats. Is it a good option, sure. It is a solid option to visit and patron, but other than that, there isn't much spectacular about this establishment. There are better frozen treats around the city that are more satisfying in my opinion, and worth taking into consideration when trying to satisfy a sweet tooth

We had Blackdog Gelato cater our July 2017 wedding at the South Shore Cultural Center. The entire experience from start to finish was fantastic. We worked with the owner, Jessie, who had us in the shop to sample many different flavors and even provided samples of a few flavors we requested that weren’t on the menu that day. It was so difficult to narrow down to four flavors, but we ended up with Blueberry French Toast, Dark Chocolate Sorbet, Mint Chip, and Salted Caramel. We booked the service late, so the cute cart wasn’t available, but they did have a table top serving piece available and we used it for our ‘first scoop’ instead of cutting a cake. They worked with our caterer to deliver during a tight delivery window and made the entire process easy!

Some of the best gelato I've had in Chicago. The flavors are really unique and incredibly flavorful. I had the espresso, pistachio, and Mexican hot chocolate. Super impressed by the pistachio. It was creamy and had real pistachios in it. Mexican chocolate was a little spicy for my taste (I could feel it burn a little in the back of my throat), but was still delicious! We came late at night so there were slim pickings. Most of the favorites had already ran out. Will definitely come again.

We go down to Chicago to visit my husband's old neighborhood, and - specifically - Black Dog Gelato. Their flavors are always unique, intense, and delicious! Their sizes/portions are always overflowing, unlike other gelato places that barely fill the cup to the rim.

Simply put, the best ice cream in the city. Bold, unique flavors. Take home a day-old pint. Why not? The sorbets have so much depth of flavor and are a lighter alternative to the richer gelatos. Strawberry basalmic is of course a classic, but I love their gelatos that incorporate baked goods as well.

Look, this ain't traditional Italian gelato. Goat Cheese and Caramelreally? And yet, and yet, this place absolutely lives up to the hype. The flavors are creative (well, duh!) and change from day to day. What really sold me, though, is that they have the fundamentals down. I tasted their vanilla, and it tasted *exactly* like it shouldno "French Vanilla" nonsense, just smooth, velvety, egg-y and milk-y vanilla. Given that, I'm more than willing to give them a license to go crazy with flavors like Olive Oil and Figs (if I recall correctly).

The best deal are the pints of the day-old gelato-- a steal at around $6 i think. Knock out flavors: cantaloupe sorbet, goat cheese caramel, there was a bourbon flavored one that was also amazing. Limited seating but usually available, longer hours on weekends.

Had a steady flow on a cool night in June can only imagine how busy it will be come high Summer, the friendly team there was patient and efficient offering as many samples as desired. I don't order Gelato often but I'd have to say this was pretty amazing. I tried a bunch of samples and had a hard time choosing. I ended up choosing their sea salt and caramel and it was to die for! Great treat but small portions and a bit expensive. The cones looked pretty tiny. I'd definitely stick with getting cups instead of a cone.

Incredible gelato. And yes, it's ice cream properly called gelato. This is one of the best places, and one of few in the Ukrainian Village part of Chicago. It's cash only, and be aware of the portion size. This isn't your typical Chicago storefront so be prepared to possibly need two orders before you're satisfied!

The have artisinal gelato with gourmet flavors. See something interesting, they'll let you taste first to see if you like it. Had the blackberry lemonade. It was divine. A little pricey but that's what happens when you use fancy words to describe ice cream. I'd go back if I'm out that way

Best place to land on a summer night! Weird, delicious natural flavor combinations, some you will love, some you won't, and some will make you cry. We like the day-old pints to enjoy at home. Don't bother with those other frozen, artificial goos. Black Dog is the real deal.

Tried a few gelato and sorbet flavors in my first visit. Butter pecan was excellent and the brown sugar cinnamon was a dead ringer for cinnamon toast crunch cereal. Root beer sorbet was good, but not on par with the gelato. They do run out of flavors and things are slightly chaotic while ordering if busy. Interior is spartan, but the product is very good.

Walked into the little shop having heard a lot of hype about this place but honestly it was a little underwhelming. First of all it was a real trek getting here from the train, so I would definitely recommend looking into the bus or driving/ubering or something. After the walk probably exasperated the hype even more, I looked at a lot of the flavors and was excited because they sounded really good! When I tried them though they were a huge let down. The sorbets were kind of watery and melted with weird flavors that didn't quite work and the other fun flavors were a little too creamy or just okay. Ended up getting the almond olive oil which was good, but would definitely need a more tart flavor to balance it out, like the blackberry one which was also pretty good. There really weren't that many fun flavors and the service was also not too friendly. Although this would definitely do the trick on a hot summer day if you happen to be in the area, I would probably go to other gelato places like some in Wicker Park (which are also more accessible). Also important to note that this place is CASH ONLY.

Good spot for creative gelato and sorbet. My favorites are the Mexican hot chocolate, salted peanut, and stracciatella. They also usually have some basics, like chocolate. It's cash only, no bathroom. The lines can get long on hot days, but the staff keep everyone moving. You can get a good deal on yesterday's pints if you show up early.

My favorite gelato place in the world. There are traditional flavors plus several experimental but always delicious pairings. I've had cayenne pepper and bacon gelato, sweet corn gelato, and even goat cheese gelato. All are delicious and can be mixed in different sized portions. The only issue with black dog is that they are cash only. Street parking can be tough on occasion too.

The flavors are outstanding and the unique combinations make it really stand out amongst all ice cream/gelato places I. The Chicagoland area. Best Ice Cream in Chicago bar none. The flavors are delicious and well worth the minor hassle of trying to figure out when they are open (they seem closed for random months during the winter). Make sure you bring cash, because they are the last business in America that doesn't accept credit cards.

Well, BuzzFeed wasn't lying when they said this is a must try in Chicago. I came in on a Saturday at around 4PM and the line was long. There was only one employee working and everybody wanted to try samples. That bottleneck the line and I was very impatience. I wish people would stop asking for samples and just order. I was a little angry but all was forgiven when I took the first bite of my mint chocolate gelato. The freshness of the mint left a cool sensation in my mouth and the chocolate was a good reminder of womanhood. You know women and their chocolate, we just gotta have it!!! I had a small of half mint chocolate and the other half of cantaloupe. The cantaloupe was so refreshing!!! You don't find cantaloupe flavor in much ice cream form so kudos to you! Remember they are CASH ONLY!

When Black Dog closed for its winter hiatus in the midst of the Polar Vortex this year, I slipped into a deep, dark depression. For, nothing makes me smile bigger and nothing makes my taste buds happier than a scoop (or two) of the amazingly wonderful and tasty gelato from Black Dog. And, despite the frigid temperatures, I craved Black Dog in the middle of February. Yeah, it's that good. I love the endless variety of flavor combinations, always tempting me to try something new. Lesson learned, though. Come November, I will be buying pint after pint after pint to keep in my freezer!

They have quite an electic array of gelatos...quite mouthwatering. This is a very busy shop. They need to work on taking orders is my only complaint. They can cause confusion at times. It is so crowded that you sometimes cannot hear the staff as you're trying to give your order. It's pretty pricey but their gelatos are pretty good. They have very interesting ones where it's not like you are going to stick with the usual flavors of gelatos like strawberry or chocolate. It's located between two areas -- one side where it's heavily hispanic/african american then the other side it's very yuppie. So a great variety of people are going to this place.

Went here recently and found an interesting little gelato shop that is unique and very affordable. Gourmet gelato and sourbets that are pleasing to the palate. The sea salt caramel gelato is awesome and a favorite of many people. The flavours change daily and the new offerings are listed in the window. I absolutely love Black Dog Gelato the best gelato I've had here in Chicago... maybe the best gelato I've had in all of the US. But they need to update their website it says they're open everyday from 2-10 PM.... and so I Ubered all the way there on a Monday to find out that they're only open from 2-10 PM Friday-Sunday. So depressed. Now I'll be dreaming of that goat cheese cashew gelato... I wanted a pint to go too. Sigh.

Black dog gelato is genuinely among the best gelato that I have had anywhere, let alone Chicago. They have rotating flavors, but my experience was that the gelato is the right blend of sweet and creamy. The malted vanilla is probably the best gelato that exists. Can't go wrong with Black Dog!

Drop what you're doing and get to Black Dog Gelato right away for savory, icy treats. Get 2 small scoops in a cup so you can try even more flavor combinations. I went to the Black Dog Gelato-Glazed and Infused ice cream sandwich event a few weeks ago. The event was popping and the combo of gigantic doughnuts with creamy gelato is a "share with friends" kinda thing. My favorite was the apple fritter with salted peanut gelato inside. We also had one with nutella gelato and lemon gelato. I would go back to try the myriad of other creative gelato flavors as having it shoved between a doughnut is a different experience, I'm sure.

Black Dog is my favorite place for a quick desert in the wicker park neighborhood. If you go near the end of the day their options get limited, but luckily all their options are quality. A little bit larger space would make it a little easier to enjoy your gelato at the moment due to the long lines taking up the room

Interesting gelato combinations - fig and bacon, mexican hot chocolate, goat cheese, etc. They have the regulars though! Some are a little odd and can hit you the wrong way, but some are surprisingly tasty. Ask for a sample!

I didn't get to try anything because they ran out of their product. If you are at a food festival, you should know how much to serve based on the number of tickets sold. Poor planning in comparison to the other awesome food stands.

I lived in Italy for a year, and this gelato is comparable to the best I had there (and the flavors are more interesting) Try the BLOOD ORANGE. IT TASTES LIKE HEAVEN. IT'S LIKE LICKING THE SUN FROM TELETUBBIES. Staff was good, but mostly OMG THERE IS ORGANIC FROZEN SUNNY D IN MY MOUTH.

i like white chocolate banana curry. I like the prices. i also like the service. i hate that they're cash only on a street with no banks!! argh!!! For that reason, I don't wanna give it 4 stars. However the guy working said that he would've let me pay him back the next time I came so that I wasn't the only one with no gelato. That was nice! but i don't like owing people. He does get a star for service though! Thankfully each of my friends all gave my big grown ass $1 to sponsor my gelato so I wouldn't be the only creep without a treat.
