Very good service and good breakfast food. Portions are not the biggest vs village cafe or other places, but flavors are good. Definitely a go to for brunch plus ice cream.

Very good service. Excellent ice cream cake. 8 inch for 28.99. I Purchased an 8 inch for 28.99 butter cream cake with vanilla and chocolate ice cream. The server offered assistance explaining each of the ice cream cakes they offer. She patiently answered all my questions and held the freezer door open for me to inspect several options.

Medium ice cream (2 scoops) on a waffle cone for $6.50. Cake batter with Butter Nut. Delish. They have a tasty mushroom Swiss burger, and terrific Turkey dinner. Charming Old school diner style that feels like I stepped into episode of Happy Days; 1950s wholesomeness, and always busy for a reason. Will definitely be back!

This was an awesome experience, an old school ice parlor, with an endless menu of ice-cream options. They were good with the gluten free guidance on the icecream, though they aren't listed as gluten free. I somehow managed to defeat this monster ice-cream Sunday.

Stopped in here after dinner for ice cream & sat at the bar. Food: 5/5 Delicious ice cream & huge portions. Service: 4/5 It was a bit unclear whether we needed to be helped to sit at the bar, but seems you can take any empty seat. Otherwise, no issues.

Incredible classic triple decker sandwiches and really good Yankee pot roast. Top notch ice cream sundaes and New England style frappes. They even have their own soda brand. Both table and counter service and service has always been great. Ample parking for their size. Ice cream selection is well above average and they have frozen yogurt as well. I will try their burgers next time. My only negative (4.5 stars) is that the comfort food and deserts are a little pricier than you might want, as good as everything was. Breakfasts are decent too.

Going Bananas was my pick - first time going there and, let me tell ya...it was a great experience with wonderful customer service and atmosphere. Big menu - but that also means there's something for all tastes and desires. Highly recommend it!

First, I'm resistant to giving an honest review because it's hard enough to get a table, but we LOVE this place; but, hate to wait in line. That said, here's to Cabot's — who sells happiness. From the street it's an ice cream shop. Who doesn't light up seeing all that ice cream—but, there are ice cream stores everywhere? No. Cabot's besides offering a variety of ice cream treats, backs it up with all American diner fare.The restaurant seating wraps around the ice cream prep area, so while you're waiting for your breakfast lunch o dinner diners may take in the ice cream prep ballet. From a two scoop cup to a wide variety of ice cream favorites in hundreds of flavors. WAIT THE FOOD—their six to eight page menu ranges from diner standard 2 eggs, sausage and toast to Yankee Pot Roast specials and everything in between. All at reasonable prices. An American diner that should not be missed—let alone that ice cream!

This place is an icon in Newton, been going here for over 30 years and it hasn't change. Friendly staff, great food and of course ice cream. My favorite is the Belgium Waffle Sundae. If you're in the area. This is a must go to place.

Retro-style ice cream parlor. Fun and lively atmosphere. Lots of ice cream flavors to choose from. Hot fudge sundae is too runny for my taste. Strawberry ice cream is passable, just not earth shattering. The place is always packed. Fortunately, the turnover is high. So, no long waits.

Cabot's is an old fashioned ice cream parlor with wonderful, huge sundaes, and an incredible selection. They also have frozen yogurt, pies, and other desserts. Their food menu is diner food, nothing that could be called good for you, but it's the ice cream you want to go for. The servers, mostly high school students, make the sundaes in the middle of the seating area, and watching them make them is part of the experience. They take cash only but they have an ATM in the entryway. Cabot's also sells pints to go, which they pile high so that invariably they're a pint and a half, and ice cream cakes, which look as beautiful as they are delicious.

A hands down favorite! Old style diner with lots of help always on hand. Never had anything bad here including the dozens of ice cream dessert choices. My 15 year old daughter always knows when we are within range of this place and will not take no for an answer. Take your kids! You'll love it.

Terrific sit down or take away experience. Cash only. The combinations are seemingly endless and the ice cream is delicious. Food on the menu as well. Ambiance is appropriate for a diner--similar to a Friendlys. Either the fudge topping or marshmallow gives a real solid finish to your sundae. They have milk-free yogurt as well.

A classic. You know everyone will be happy when there's a separate ice cream menu. The choices are extensive. The regular flavors include some great choices like black raspberry crunch swirl and there are always specials like the amazing blueberry pie. For a nice change try the bittersweet hot fudge sauce. Bonus: they take credit cards now!

Such a fun place. Large menu with a lot of diner basics. We had the appetizer sampler, which was good, I had an egg white omelet with broccoli and cheddar which was delicious, it came with waffle fries and a bagel. Group also tried strawberry / banana hot cakes (which were delicious) a waffle with apples and... Something else, I forgot. While the waffle was not my favorite, everyone else at the table said it was great. Dessert was, of course, so good! We each got different Sundaes and everyone loved them, I got coconut yogurt with granola and strawberry sauce - so good!! Service was friendly and fast.

I had the most delicious brownie sundae here a few weeks ago. They have tons of indoor seating, counter seating, and a takeout counter. Everyone was super friendly. I loved the retro vibe inside. Definitely want to visit again and try their dinner/lunch food.

The menu is robust and the ice cream is delicious. A special note for those with food allergies: Cabots is extremely food allergy friendly! My peanut and treenut allergic child was able to enjoy what he wanted off the menu (from the grill and fryer) and also got his favorite ice cream! They open a new container and clean all utensils before getting ice cream for an allergic diner. Amazing! Wish I could give more stars!

Great atmosphere. Try to get one of the booths near the back. Kind of reminds me of Holsten’s from the finale of the Sopranos. The club sandwiches are really good and the sundaes are out of this world, they have an overwhelming amount of toppings and you just want to try everything. Prices are really reasonable and waitstaff is nice. Perfect for kids. There’s not many places like this around any more.

Crowded. Basically it's a place to pretend your being nostalgic. They seem to be aware that they are always busy and yet do not have the amount of staff needed to so much as clean a table before seating the next family. You want nostalgia. Go to Cracker Barrell.

Wow! First time visit; won't be our last. I was surprised by how spacious it was. Genius setup with the kitchen in the center. Food was delicious and well priced. We were too full to try ice cream this time, but the menu was extensive and looked excellent. There's even a parking lot. The only downside was our servers were very busy and seemed distracted, but it really didn't dampen the experience. Great place!

Nice local diner and ice cream shop. The food is generally adequate diner food for a very reasonable price but the ice cream selection and quality is definitely where it shines and there is a separate line for ice cream versus sit down meals although you can order it from the seated area. The only real downside is that it is very crowded during peak hours and doesn't take reservations, so it is often hard to get seating.

Cabots is always a good place for ice cream. They are local and always have a great atmosphere to be in. Especially happy with the way service is during these times of wonder. They have outdoor seating under a tent which is nice. They offer hand sanitizer as well. Food was served in a timely manner and even came out hot (although due to the pandemic, they are using paper and plastic). Always very pleased with my visit.

Brings you back to the 70s/80s. The prices here are still incredibly low for such a delicious ice cream venue. The staff are very young and working hard, so make sure to tip generously and give them a break. Cash only. The portions are insanely large. Most are sharable. There is a selection between ice cream and yogurt. I opted for the yogurt, but still was allowed to add as many toppings as I wanted. After adding the toppings, they then grinded them into the flavor and put it in a cone. Likely tons of sugar and nearly a thousand calories, but man, it was delicious. Would gladly return, although it is a quick way to health issues!

A Mom and Pop hole in the wall ice cream store that has been there for I don't know they probably served George Washington. The ice cream is really good but I was kind of surprised to how warm it was in there and they don't take credit cards so make sure you have cash before going here.

Friendly staff. A very diverse menu, there’s an option for every taste and every whim, from breakfast, to lunch and desserts. Payment is cash only, no debit or credit cards are taken, but there’s an ATM conveniently located in front of the shop which takes a $3.50 for every withdrawal. Service was quick and food was good. Didn’t get to try the ice cream or the milkshakes, but all the desserts I saw looked very tasty.

This place brings you back to a time where you could relax have no worries and enjoy some beautiful handcrafted ice cream goods which taste delicious. The hot fudge is the best I’ve ever had. I was lucky to take my late friend Katrina to this place and she said this was the best she’s ever had.

This Newton landmark is definitely worth a visit. I had the philly cheesesteak, which was exactly the diner philly cheesesteak I hoped it would be. The ice cream is perhaps the most delicious thing Cabot's has, but, alas, I did not partake on this most recent visit. Definitely worth a visit.

Delicious Ice Cream. Went to Cabot's Ice Cream for the first time. The portions are very generous. The ice cream has a wonderful creamy texture. The raspberry lime rickey was very refreshing. They have outdoor table service in the parking lot so there is only about 4 parking spaces. Plenty of on street paid parking spaces.

I went for breakfast a Saturday at 10AM and was happy to find that it wasn't too busy. The concept is awesome... a diner and 60's ice cream shop/soda fountain feel that you don't see that much in the Boston area. It's a bummer that they accept cash only, as if it's still the 60's... that's an inconvenience to customers in the digital age. The pancakes were average, on the dry side. The side of fries were really good but not what you'd expect... They're cross cut like chips and not seasoned. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. I'd drop back in to get lunch or ice cream if I was in the area again to give it another shot.

If you're in the area, you have to stop at Cabot's. The food is solid, the atmosphere is straight out of 1969 but meticulously maintained. It's like jumping back in time. And then, of course, there's the ice cream menu. It's exhaustive in flavors and options. Floats, freezes, banana splits, so many delicious options. For me, the orange sherbet freeze is the best I've ever had. Always a great stop.

This is a great ice cream store, and out door bistro. They have a great variety of luch, dinners and ice cream, from cheese burgers, salads, fish and chips and ice cream pies. Went there for the 1st time yesterday, their 50th anniversary. Old time restaurant and ice cream establishment - think Friendly's but much better! Great food. I got the Texan Burger, a 9oz patty with chili and cheddar cheese on Texan toast with Fries and it was delicious! The rest of the family got ice cream and thoroughly enjoyed it! Great low prices and LOTS of food for the price. Great service too. Will definitely go back!

I came here first in the early 80s when I got my drivers license at 16. Back then, Cabots had a lot of competition; Brighams, Friendlys, Woolworths cafeteria, HoJos, IHOP and many others.. Cabots was also cash only back then and atms were not invented yet.. 38 years later i happened to rediscover this gem.. While the competition from a bygone era has all but disappeared I was surprised that its pretty much exactly the same restaurant that i remembered as a teenager, except they take credit cards now. The same incredibly delicious ice cream and 70s 'cafeteria/diner' style food with diner style seating as well.. A flood of memories from my youth came back but im old now and a giant chocolate sundae could possibly kill me. This place is an institution..a local treasure and i hope it stays this way forever because im sure a lot of young people or former young people like me would appreciate it.

Cabots has amazing food, and shockingly low prices. Their food is always delicious, and they're always very helpful. Service is attentive and even though they aren't always perfect, as humans are, they always make sure that everything ends up right by you. Also their ice cream is amazing!! My girlfriend and I walked down from her apartment on saturday to get some breakfast, having passed this place the other day. The place seemed packed and it looked like a small diner, that would at least have some okay food. We were so wrong. THEY HAD AMAZING FOOD! Their waffles were amazing. The coffee was perfect diner coffee. The staff was amazing. The waitress, ugh, she was the best. This is a new staple in our weekly ritual, now.

My go to and all time favorite - pistachio sundae! This place is always busy, best time to go is during off times to avoid having to wait too long for a table. They serve breakfast food as well besides ice cream. They also sell icecream cakes too. Remember to bring cash as this is still a cash only spot!

I love coming here for ice cream (for food I've only tried their chili cheddar fries, which were fine). The old fashion interior is fun and the place is always packed in the evenings, which is part of the appeal. Their ice cream is delicious and they feature a good selection of flavors. I always order a sundae, because the hot fudge is awesome. My only complaint is that their smallest size for a sundae is huge. I tried to get the smaller size, but a single-scoop ice cream sundae is "only for children." Well then.

Very inexpensive, satisfying, and open late. Cash only though, \plastic isn't going to cut it here. The service staff seems to mostly consist of local high school kids, they're incredibly friendly and attentive to your experience. It's the only restaurant in the area that I think gives a traditional diner experience. The major key though is breakfast all day. Definitely will be back.

I went here with my wife for dinner and ice cream on a Sunday night and it was very satisfying. It was a busy night but we didnt have to wait long and the staff was very attentive. Breakfast is served all day so it's nice to be able to get something small, I recommend the French toast, and then some ice cream. Once you get your check you bring it up to the register to pay, and its cash only. There is a small atm inside the entrance as well if you need it.

The place is nice and almost always busy. I like the parafaits and some of their smaller ice-cream portions. I'd reserve a couple of stars for their below average customer service, I've seen at times the lady at the counter be not helpful when finding a seats. You find customers helping & guiding each other. There's not even enough space to wait in a line for seats. The service can be drastically improved.

Love this place. The variety of diner food is awesome and the selection of desserts is awesome. Best known for its ice cream, but it's non-diary menu is ever expanding and there are now way more than 20 non-diary options. I love you it, you can go there with anyone friends, family, very small school field trips. Not the best place for talking quietly, but that's not its purpose. However, eat-in area cannot be navigated by a wheelchair user and the bathrooms are up a steep flight of stairs. They can be challenging for someone with limited mobility too. There is a take out option though.

CASH ONLY! Just had ice cream here and not a meal so can only comment on that. It was about $14 for 2 adults & 2 kids and we all had smalls - around 2 scoops per cup. Although the size is generous, I cant say the ice cream was anything special or unique. Staff are friendly, there isn't much parking and the place was really crowded. We took ours to go, but there are also small tables and counter seats.

So. I can see why it says "& Restaurant" near the end of the name, why it's secondary to Ice Cream. Ordered a burger medium well, rather simple. Came back well done like a shoe. I held my tongue out of respect for the establishment. The fries that came with it were common thin fries hard enough to chip away clay, again held my tongue. I'll likely never order actual food here ever again. It's getting three stars because of the Ice Cream, it's unique enough to merit three stars, you'll understand once you order a classy sundae of theirs. So, if you're on a cute date, just get the ice cream.

They also have a considerable selection of savory food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Everything is delicious, and the staff are always attentive and friendly. You come here for the ice cream and the classic ice cream parlor charm. It is the classic ice cream parlor that you cannot really find anymore and if you are craving some delicious, reasonably priced ice cream I would highly recommend this place. They have tons of amazing flavors and I love their brownie with ice cream desserts. If you are going for a diner, however, I would not go in with high expectations of classic diner fair. Anything with baked beans is a sure fire win, but beyond that things can get a bit dicey. Their chicken, egg, and tuna fish salads are all classic and good. Ice cream is the way to go when you come, and it is the reason to keep coming back. You can also get ice cream cakes and pints of their ice cream are for sale, if you want to take some for a special event.

I was pleasantly surprised to find Weight Watchers compatible menu items but the extensive ice cream menu is very tempting! If you are looking to indulge, this is the place to go. The menu is misleading. I ordered the 'Gourmet Waffle Cone' with my ice cream thinking it was homemade. It's actually the 'Joy' brand waffle cone that is sold at supermarkets. Mostly burgers, starchy foods, etc. I come for ice cream only, and when I do it is always the same thing; "Fudgeana with peanut butter sauce added, with oreo cookie ice cream, whipped cream, banana wheels, and nuts. It's about $7 and a fairly good sized-sundae. The downside? They don't accept credit cards. CASH only! Once I took a friend in there for a sundae and had forgotten that and had no ATM card and had to go to a supermarket and purchase something with cash back. Talk about embarrassing! All in all, a good place to take the family. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is like an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. Though I've had better ice cream, it's definitely among my top choices. Another thing; they are not open on MONDAYS!

I have been going to Cabots for 50 years! I LOVE the fact that it is still a single family-owned business, with great food and ice cream, as well as intelligent, engaged, friendly staff who actually work hard!! The owners run a tight ship, and are there on the front lines with their employees. Cabots is well run and efficient. I also LOVE the fact that it looks just as it did all those years ago: if you want new and shiny, with contemporary music blasting, you need to go somewhere else, as there are plenty of those other places around. Cabots exudes what now seem to be "old fashioned" values, like hard work, respect, great food and ice cream at very reasonable prices, and PAYMENT IN CASH (Heaven forbid!! Don't people realize that this is part of the reason why their prices are lower than most???). Get off your devices and step back in time when life was the genuine thing!!! (Be prepared to wait for a seat at peak hours, especially Fridays and Saturdays; also, keep in mind that this is a family restaurant, and there will be noise at those times!)

Great place for kids. Problem is its very disorganized when its crowded. Why they can't have a list I don't know. They say wait to be seated but people always just walk in and take tables while you're waiting. Often they'll direct you to wait in a line filled only with people waiting for ice cream. Then people walk in off street and just sit at table you think you're waiting for. They need to manage this better as it can be very frustrating if you're waiting with a crying child.

Went on a Wednesday morning about 9am, not busy at all. I ordered an omelette with broccoli and cheese. The omelette was cooked too much, and the potatoes were unique and delicious. The english muffin was some sort of heaven. I would go back just for the english muffin. The overcooked omelette and the non-acceptance of credit cards is the only reason I couldn't give this place five stars. I read some of the previous reviews and the owner, Joe, seemed to refer to the reason they didn't accept credit cards as "We've been around for quite a while now and some of our older charms stuck around", but your older charm is making quite a tidy profit off the exorbitant atm fee the atm charges. So I quote, "A place that doesn't take cards is bad, but a place that doesn't take cards and has an ATM right outside—that's just straight up evil. It's like "thanks for patronizing our establishment, let me kick you in the crotch on the way out!" I pass by there everyday, and since I rarely carry cash, I go somewhere that does. Too bad.
