Great ice cream! The service was quick and good. There’s lots of flavors and options to choose from…. so many that it’s hard to decide! We look forward to going back. Highly recommend!

Awesome ice cream! This location is finally open again under new ownership. There are soo many flavors to choose from. I love the 4 scoop sampler so that you can try several of your favorites. The line may seem long but it usually moves pretty fast as they take orders from several different windows. There are benches nearby and plenty of parking.

A bit of a wait as each order takes time to make since they are hand crafted each time from the homemade ice-cream bucket, but if you can handle the wait the ice cream is light and flavorful with happy people serving you! A ton of flavors and options to choose from, plus a partnership with Texas Roadhouse means dinner and dessert!

We tried Handel's for the first time this week. The ice cream is excellent. There are literally about 50 flavors of ice cream--many of which I have never seen before. I had a salty caramel truffle. That is one of the ones I have never heard of. It was saltier than I anticipated but very good quality. I also had the chocolate chip cookie dough. Again, very good quality. It was creamy and very sweet. In short, it was delicious. There are often lines here. Service is pretty quick but the place is very popular. There is a large parking lot. No inside service; this is a pull yourself up to the counter and place your order kind of place. Worth a trip for anyone that appreciates quality ice cream.

Ice cream is always great. But, I am past the age of willingly waiting 15 minutes on hot asphalt. Can't we tuck the line around the corner, in the SHADE?? Or open a 2nd window on a weekday afternoon? Sorry to rant. Everything was delicious, I was just too cranky to appreciate it.

A little pricey, but you get a lot...too much, really. There should be a lower prices, smaller portion offered. The ice cream itself runs from "OMG It's so good!" to "off the shelf grocery store." Sane flavor. Maybe who churns it?

Delicious ice cream and highly recommended for a date night! It is a very popular place and doesn't offer indoor seating, so you wait outside in a long line like an amusement park ride. But... it is definitely worth the wait. The delay does give you time to decide what you want given their huge number of options/flavors. I ordered Lemon Bar in a waffle cone and it was amazing. The best I have ever had.

We love this place. Ice cream is one of my favorite things in the world and I have never been disappointed in Handel's. We've only been coming for about six months as we were new to the area but the selection is huge and the price is fair. A couple days ago I ordered a sundae as well as a single cone (which is 2.5 scoops) and it was just under $10. Compared to other places (unless you're talking nasty fast food ice cream) you can't beat that price. I've read reviews about the milkshakes being watery, but that was not my experience and I didn't even order it extra thick. I've also never once received bad service here. Contrary to a lot of places that lack good customer service skills in the food industry every person (usually a young person) I have ever encountered has been friendly, polite, and knowledgeable of the menu. The owners are lovely and you can tell they take pride in what they do and treat customers with such a warm, friendly attitude. They are always busy for a reason!

1st time visit. I ordered a Strawberry Cheesecake Hurricane (with Marshmallow topping). The dessert was pretty good however, I did not taste any marshmallows within my dessert. My partner ordered Vanilla ice cream on a Cake Cone and he said it was good. The menu is pretty pricey- just for a medium Hurricane and Vanilla cone came to about $10.35. The ice cream was good. On the other hand, I wouldn't drive out of the way for it. I appreciate you for taking time out to read my review. I hope it is informative.

I love Handel's. (Note: I have only gotten their ice cream, no milkshakes or other frozen treats. This review is based on only the ice cream). I will admit the service is a little slow but I've not really minded because the ice cream is 10/10. Serving sizes are generous and even with a single can hardly finish- if at all. It's thick and creamy, not icy. Be aware there is usually a long line/wait.

Came here last night to get some ice cream. I got the Praline Pecan and my friend got the Pineapple Sherbet. Both were delicious and the portion sizes were large (even though we got smalls). It's a little pricey ($4.50 for a small cone) but delicious. I liked the large variety of flavors because it makes me want to go back and try other things.

Excellent ice cream with large variety of choice. My favorite flavor at the moment is "birthday cake". The texture and taste is just amazing. The place is nice and offers a few spots to sit down and enjoy the ice cream a little bit more comfortably. Not even expensive for such a good quality. I hope to back there soon!

Fast and quick service! Large selection of ice cream flavors. I got my usual chocolate chip cookie dough, and he got his orange sherbert. Ice cream tasted fresh and delicious! We also got our ice cream relatively quick for a Friday night.

I want to go when there is live music!! I love to go to Handels when I am in town. I'm not a local. But, I Love their ice cream! Especially the Buckeyes mmmmm. There is a mist that comes off the sides of the roof to keep you cool while you wait in line (Pictured below). Lots of benches to sit and wait. Super friendly and fast as it can be service. Worth the wait in line! Make sure to get extra napkins ;)

First time having Handels. My wife has had it several times and loves it so she took me there to try it. Ice cream is one of my favorite desserts. I wasn't that impressed compared to the hype i've heard about handels. I asked for mint chocolate chip, and Ore dough with the mint chocolate chip on the bottom which they didn't do. The ice cream melted extremely fast making it super messy. the outside of the cone and my hand was covered in melted ice cream. It definitely seems like a vintage ice cream stand with photo worthy treats which is one of the reason I believe that there is such a hype about it. Overall It wasn't terrible but it's definitely not ice cream I'll crave.

It was delish,but a lil messy 😱 It was hot,nd we had our grandkids trying to reward them for getting off to a good start back to school... Maybe next time we can come after it starts cooling down somewhat... I think it would have been a much better expiernce... Overall the customer service was great,very sweet ladies.... The owner of this one was super friendly, talking to everyone in line. He gave us the “scoop” on Handels and how he came to be the owner. We must get a Handels in Columbia SC!! The milkshakes aren't worth a diddle darn but the ice cream is amazing. You can tell it's homemade but it's not cheap & icy either. I just wish they would bring back mint oreo!! The cookies go better with the ice cream than hard chocolate chips :)

If you're in the Huntsville area, you MUST go here for ice cream. It's worth the drive from anywhere in Huntsville itself, and you should expect a line. That line is well-deserved. The homemade flavors, produced at each location, are phenomenal, but for people like us who prefer bowls over the messiness of waffle cones, but still like the flavor of a waffle cone, the real star here is their waffle bowl. This little streak of ice cream genius elevates great flavors to a positively stellar experience. I am an expert cook and this place impressed even me. On our first time out, we tried Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, best I have ever had anywhere; Key Lime Pie, with chunks of graham cracker crust and sweetened condensed milk, amazing; chocolate mint chip, delicious; and blueberry cheesecake, killer! Reasonably priced, a great value. Don't miss it.

We currently live in Korea but returned for about a month and was craving some Pink Champagne Ice Cream. Unfortunately, that flavor is not available right now but the new owner introduced us to the Strawberry Margarita. Amazing!!! Her & her staff are very friendly and helpful with making suggestions. Miss this type of Love from the U.S. Enjoying my time abroad but if we could spread Handel's hospitality, joyfulness and customer service atmosphere that would make returning more appealing. I am editing my 1 star initial review (from last year) to 5 stars due to the new ownership and management and the great customer service we received there. We went to this location recently for the first time since it reopened. I was impressed to find the owner outside greeting and mingling with all of the guest in line. It was very pleasant talking with him and actually nice to meet him. I have never seen a owner (or a manager) at a business outside at 9pm on a Saturday night greeting people. I can honestly say that I feel like they truly care about this community. Great job Handel's franchise for getting rid of the previous owners. And to the new owners, thank you so much for your efforts. We are excited to support this business!!!

Handel's is a franchise, but a good one. You'll find high quality ice cream and good, friendly service here. The place is well-staffed with friendly and polite teenagers. I've yet to be there when there wasn't a line, but it always moves quickly. The only downside is that the popularity and return customers the quality and service generates means they occasionally run short of waffle cones or popular flavors. Not to worry, though: there's lots of choices, so you're bound to find something you'll love! Try the Bananas Foster ice cream. While I normally wouldn't go for banana-flavored ice cream, it's actually one of my favorites here! Why would I risk making it too popular? Because I want it to stay on the menu year-round! Update August 2021: Handel's parted ways with the previous franchisee in 2020 due to some unfortunate allegations that he made worse with some poorly-advised social media posts. The store is open under new management now, though, and it's still some of the best ice cream -- if not the best -- you'll find in the Huntsville/Madison area. I haven't met the new owners, but they seem to be running the place quite well. My rating keeps the same 5 stars it began with!

Be prepared to wait in line, but I promise it's worth it. They have a lot of choices and flavors. Everything we tried was great. Very rich and creamy ice cream. I liked that on a hot day they had misting to keep the line cool. There is limited out door seating and they do not have an indoor service or seating area. They do offer call ahead ordering for pints and quarts. Everything was very clean. The staff was very kind and patient even though I had 3 indecisive children with me.

Excellent variety of flavors, and good quality ice cream. They have 'single' scoops that are really 2.5 scoops, which is neat. They've got tons of flavors for scoops, plus milkshakes, blizzards, and other ice cream treats. There is usually a line, but it's a very short wait. They've got a couple of tables outside. The service is great and everyone is friendly. Would go again.

Delicious! It was my first time trying Handel's and I wasn't sure what to get. I asked the kid working the counter; he was super nice and gave me some suggestions. I settled on getting the four scoops so that I could try different ones. I ended up getting the cotton candy (the ice cream is great but the sprinkles are weird), chocolate peanut butter brownie, strawberry cheesecake, and orange dream (which the employee highly recommended and was amazing!) The flavors were all great. I highly recommend this place!

This is an amazing, unique ice cream shop! They are incredibly cheap and have a ton of unique flavours -- I recommend getting four scoops in a 'flight'! It's perfect for summer, with a few benches outside to sit on, but it's worth coming in the winter too, even when it's freezing cold. It's a good college or family meet-up place because it's affordable, but has options for everybody, whether a sophisticated palette or a chocoholic.

Handel's has the sampler which consists of 4 yep 4 flavors under five bucks YAY. Nice sized scoops for now and later. Homemade at its finest on any day.

I was told by my in-laws that this was reportedly the best ice cream in the world. Being a self ascribed ice cream aficionado I approached skeptically late one night with said family. The initial impression was that the building was quaint but pretty standard as far as ice cream joints go. However, the 30 person queue outside at 930 pm spoke volumes for the communities love of this "#1" ice cream. When we finally made it to the counter I still hadn't quite decided due to the sheer number of options. Thankfully the employee informed me there was a 4 flavor sampler I could fill with any ice cream of my choosing. Mind blown! And when I tried it, taste buds blown! Needless to say the ice cream was amazing, the portion sizes were gigantic and the staff were great. Highly recommend!

Easily the best ice cream I have had. During the summer months this place gets pretty busy but it's well worth the wait. My favorite is the buckeye but I have plenty of other flavors to explore. Employees are very patient which is good because much of the time is people trying to decide what they want. Give this place a go.

Very good ice cream. A young customer ahead of us got his cone with a gleam in his eye, and as soon as he lifted it to take his first bite, the glob of ice cream took a tumble and slammed onto the pavement. With his bottom lip stuck out, he walked over to the server window as everyone laughed at his misfortune, and the server gladly made him a whole new cone, with extra reinforcement techniques to secure it.

My family has been here many times and we've never had a bad experience. It's always delicious, creamy ice cream and the employees always cheerful and friendly! First timer. Stopped in on a Friday night and while the wait was a bit long, it was well worth it. Great flavors. I had the snappy turtle and it was very good, maybe just a bit too much caramel but still quite tasty. My daughter had chocoholic and it too was outstanding. My wife and I love this place!! The ice cream is fantastic and the owners are very friendly. They take time to talk to as many customers as they can and they let you try as much ice cream as you want. When my wife and I go, we always end up spending way too much, but it is definitely worth it. The butter pecan ice cream is by far my favorite!!!

My first time here and wow what an experience. I got the 4 scoop "sampler" and it was so much ice cream I couldn't finish. The quality of the ice cream is top notch. There were maybe 40 different flavor varieties. The "Spouse Like a House" is a good choice.

A bit of a drive if you are in the downtown Huntsville area but not far from the rocket center, and oh so worth it. I'd walk 2 miles for this icecream on a 90+ degree day if I had to. All 7 member's of my family.. two 40-something adults, 2 teenagers, and 3 younger kids agree... This was the best ice cream we have had in our entire lives. Very Large portions. Priced very well considering the portion size. Amazing. I'm still in awe as to how good this ice cream was...Just thinking about it.

Really great ice cream!! Tons of flavors! From yogurt, milkshakes, cones and more. I got the New York Cheesecake ice cream in a waffle cone (2 scoops) it was huge! Tasted like real NY cheese cake too! They have so many flavors it's hard to choose. Hubby got a fudge brownie sundae. I recommend to every ice cream lover. Better than a Bruster's. Great for kids as well.. they have a dirt sundae for kids with gummy worms. :) Over all great experience. They stay open till I think 10 or 11 pm. Best to go when there isn't any huge line.

This place is amazing!!! So many unique flavors to choose from and friendly employees greet you with a smile at the old fashion service windows. The texture is like none I've tried ~ firm, rich, and super creamy at the same time. A "single" cone took me a good while to finish because it is a substantial treat. I can see why it was rated the #1 best ice cream in the world by National Geographic. We are very lucky to have a genuine Handel's right here in our area to enjoy.

The best ice cream I've ever had. EVER. SERIOUSLY GO EAT THEIR ICE CREAM. NOW. This place is life changing. You should go there. Everything is homemade. They have tons of selection. Be prepared for a line on a summer night. There is no inside dining, so be prepared to eat outdoors. They have benches, and on really hot days, they turn on misters to keep you cool. The ice cream is with it. I love I've cream, but I've never had better I've cream than what they serve here. Hands down the best.

Bananas foster is my personal favorite I come and get a couple quarts every other week to go and enjoy it at home. My husband loves the cheesecake ones they are delicious and have cheesecake throughout the homemade ice cream. I only live 5 miles from the store and by the time I get home the ice cream is melting that tells you how homemade the ice cream is and the consistency is that of homemade ice cream like we had as a kid but with delicious flavors try it you won’t be disappointed in fact you will become addicted. Also, I will say this if you are new to coming to the store get the 4 scoop sampler for $4.95 best deal then you can find your favorite flavor to order a quart for at home. I don’t buy ice cream from anywhere else any more and I am so very thankful for Handels. NO MORE GROCERY ICE CREAM ♥️ Thank you to the owner and staff there for always making delicious homemade ice cream for me and providing excellent customer service each time I go y’all are the best 😊

Some of the best ice cream I've ever had. Bonus - it comes in lots of flavors. Usually a decent line, even when it's cold out, but the wait is worth it. You can buy hand packed pints or quarts. Call ahead if you're ordering a lot and they'll have it ready to pick up when you get there.

Took my daughter to Handel's in Madison AL for the first time after work today. After trying 7 or so different flavors, she very decidedly landed on the cake batter and wanted it in a milkshake. First, the sweet guy behind the counter was so very patient with her and all her choices. Second, she dropped her entire milkshake on the walk back to the car, spilling it all over the place and looked up at me with tears in her eyes. When we went back to the window to buy her another, they gave it to her without charging me again and made her feel better because "it happens". Awesome service and just good people! Made her day. And mine, too. Finally, the ice cream was amazing! Customers for life!

The staff was very nice and the ice cream was amazing! My kids and I love visiting Handles. We live over 35 minutes away but it is worth the drive. I highly recommend Handles off of hwy72 in the Kroger shopping center.

My only issue with this ice cream is the holding temperature. I paid $20 to get ice cream for 3 kids and a milkshake for myself (ordered extra thick), and all I got was cold chocolate soups. They melted faster than a snowflake hitting a warmed up car!

We went on a Friday in Aug during lunch so it wasn't busy (its typically really busy with a long line). The ice cream is very good and soft. We got the hot fudge Sunday and split it between 2 adults and 3 kids. The kids also got a free kiddie cone which was delicious as well. They definately need better seating with some umbrellas too ☂️

My husband and I take the grandchildren here quite often. We even occasionally sneak off and indulge in the ice cream by ourselves. This place reminds us both of places where we grew up and whole communities would meet and greet and Exchange News and just laugh and enjoy each other's company a banana split hot fudge sundae or just a simple hand dipped cone made everyone there feel like part of one big family. It is so unusual to find this kind of environment anymore. Take the time go there and enjoy great ice cream and very friendly people. The workers inside are just taking their sweet time while flirting with a girl just standing there. They could care less about working. I give the ice cream 4 stars but give the organization of the long line 1 star. In the front of the store was a roped line area with about 30 people waiting. After waiting about 20 minutes I realize that there is a line on the back side of building that people were just walking right up to. It was very misleading and I'm not sure how this method works for them, but I can say it was very frustrating. Now the ice cream was delicious so I would go again, but I hope they figure out a way to place value on each customer's time.

They offer hearty portions of free samples, so you definitely have a taste of what you are getting. All of the flavors are good. They have sugar free options, so thats a huge plus. The Boston Cooler is a mixed root beer float. I definitely recommend it if you are wanting something simple and refreshing. The nuttier flavors have a rich butter/caramel sauce inside. Its not overly salty, its just right. Its rated the worlds best ice cream. I'm not really surprised, it definitely beats coldstone. There is usually a big line full of friendly people, so dont let a line scare you away, its worth the wait.

This is the best ice cream in the world. Seriously. It was actually voted best ice cream in the world. It started in Youngstown Ohio, which is where I was born and raised. I moved to Huntsville 2 years ago and I couldn't believe it when I heard Handels was coming here too! Their ice cream really is the best. It's hard to pick a favorite flavor. Service so far has been hit or miss and but they are still new and working out the kinks. (My husband's hurricane was only half full and all the m&ms were in the bottom of the cup, but if you are just getting scoops of ice cream, which is what you should get because their ice cream is the best, there shouldn't be any issues) A bench or 2 outside would be nice but it's just as easy to go hang out and eat while leaning against your car so giving this place 3 stars for not having tables is pretty lame and over dramatic.

OMG!! It's a scoop of heaven!! I became familiar with Handel's when I visited family in Youngstown, Ohio. Imagine my surprise to find out there was a franchise down the street from me in Huntsville, AL. Handles's Ice Cream is some of the best ice cream I have ever had. It's made in-house so it is always fresh. They have a myriad of flavors and they only do ice cream, so you don't have to wait for someone to order a burger so you can order a scoop. Speaking of scoops, THEY ARE HUGE, so bring your appetite.
