The Hop is still our favorite go to spot for ice cream when we are in Asheville. The Hop offers a wide range of flavor options for dairy and dairy-free ice cream lovers alike. They also offer a wide range of gluten free flavors as well as a gluten free cone. Their homemade waffle cones and waffle bowls are amazing! Do yourself a favor and stop by one of their locations. You won't be disappointed! Pro-tip: Due to Covid, they aren't offering samples at the moment.

Some of the best ice cream I have ever had. They have very unusual and interesting flavors like tomato paste and rosemary as well as blueberry kale. Got an ice cream cake from here, slightly in the expensive side but worth ever penny.

Best ice cream ever. The whipped cream was homemade and not too sweet. The ice cream itself was so creamy and the flavor was just right. The person working, Henri, was super nice. You know when you go to a store and the person behind the counter can care less about anything? Not her. Really upbeat attitude. I’ll go eat some ice cream and just about always think “Not worth the calories.” But this place…… sooo good. I can see why they get such great reviews.

Very interesting ice cream place with some delicious flavors of vegan and non-vegan ice cream I tried to kill and blueberry ice cream along with the butter pecan it was very creamy and delicious and joy the fact that he could sample as much as you want without the customer service getting negative points. there are some really cool paintings that are not for sale but you can enjoy them.

Fresh and flavorful! I had 2 scoops of the No Sugar Added Cinnamon ice cream in a cup and it was soooooo good! Our kids enjoyed single scoops of vanilla with sprinkles and my boyfriend had lemon blueberry in a waffle cone and it was bright and citrusy. The staff members were very friendly and polite. I would definitely recommend and we'll surely be back when we come to Asheville again!

I've always been a big fan and supporter of the Hop. However, I feel it's needed to share my most recent experience at the West Asheville location Saturday, April 30th. There were two young guys and a young lady working, in which the two guys had their hair pulled up. The young lady had long hair and it was not pulled up in a hat or pony tail. Her hair was almost touching the inside of the ice cream container when scooping. A loose hair or anything could have fallen into the ice cream, which is unsanitary. I am not sure what the employee requirements are but I would suggest that whoever has long hair, they are required to pull it up in a hat or pony tail holder. This is the first time I have ever seen this happen at the Hop and I hope that next time I don't see this.

Out of Townes looking for a neat local spot. Honestly, the ice cream was decent, but nothing special. They get you with the $1 per topping, which is not posted anywhere. Staff should have recommended going with the sundae options for the scoop instead of getting you for a few extra bucks. Not trying to nickel and dime, but $5 bucks for a bit of syrup and some hard @$$ gummy bears is a bit of a put off. First and last time here checking out this Asheville “classic”.

Cute little ice cream shop. They got a good selection of flavors and smoothies and floats. I tried a few flavors and they are on point. Would definitely recommend this place over those big name brands out there. You can see the homey feel. If your in the area do stop by and grab you a scope.

A must for great ice cream. They always have traditional flavors and then they will have some unusual ones as well. I try a different flavor each time we go. I have never been disappointed. This place is always busy, but the line usually moves quickly. They also have dairy free and gluten free options.

So good, my first visit and I had honey lavender. Everyone in my large group enjoyed theirs too. There was a long line near closing time, it went pretty fast. The workers were working really hard and still had a pleasant attitude. Great experience, can't wait to come back.

They also offer a range of vegan and lactose-free options, including a delicious coconut whipped cream. Not sure? Have a free sample! Really fresh and tasty ice cream and service. I got the mocha Oreo milkshake and it was smooth and flavor packed. The only thing I’m not crazy about is there is almost no room for line it was cramped and gave me anxiety. Some lines on the floor or one less table inside would help if they aren’t able to make more space.

The Hop is the best! They're my go-to ice cream place. They have a rotating ice cream selection with flavor combinations that you'd never expect but are insanely delicious. Their vegan options rival or sometimes even surpass their extensive non-vegan selection. The only problem is that you might sometimes come across a flavor that you absolutely love, but they won't have it available the next time you come. Whatever you end up getting instead will alleviate any disappointment over the issue, though. The West location has a cute little enclosed patio in the back that stays mostly shaded during hot days, so if you're looking for a place to cool off while hanging out in West Asheville, this is it.

Greg and Ashley (the owners) were absolutely incredible helping put together a flair at our wedding reception that was one of the big hits with our guests. In addition, the staff The Hop brought to our event was incredibly kind and gracious. The ice cream (turned milkshake) was great and there was definitely service with a smile! I had family members that I know went back more than 5 times! Can't say enough great things about working with them. They are a great small business and the milkshakes were delicious. We recommend them wholeheartedly and look forward to visiting the store again as soon as we are back in the area.

Ok how do you rate an original. Locally made, unique flavors make this a must try. I had the strawberry, basil, almond milk. It was remarkable. They let me taste several-- Cardamom banana cream, Beet, Toasted Coconut. All of them are delicious. Go to this place for unique frozen treats. Friendly service as well.

Wait staff was nice/patient and had no trouble with us tasting several of the unusual flavors (kale/blueberry and basil blueberry) and vegan options made with cashew milk and other alternative milks. The chocolate and fresh mint option was really tasty. Highly recommended!

The ice cream was good. Personally, I had the strawberry / basil. Everyone in my family commented on how much you could taste the basil, and that's exactly what I was looking for. But I think we were all looking for more unusual flavors like that. My wife and I, veterans of Jenni's Ice Cream in Ohio, are used to seeing these types of unusual flavor combinations. Perhaps the real problem was a matter of expectation. I was expecting more of a Jenni's Ice Cream experience, and what I got was a really great bowl of ice cream.

I really like how they only charge a little more for vegan options (20 cents to 50 cents more). Most places charge a lot more. The ice cream was really tasty and the staff was kind. We got to play chess while we ate our ice cream too

I've been going here for years and it has never EVER disappointed me. When I was younger I used to come down here with my laptop get 2 scoops of salted caramel and play games with the free WiFi. Their ice cream is the best I've ever had and thats not an exaggeration. I've been to 48 states and not one compares to what I've had at the hop. The service is great and I'm always greeted by a friendly smile. Their ice cream is so good I can't help but sample them all (even though I've already tried them before) I'm telling you this place is HEAVEN. Some things might change in Asheville but this place never will and I'm ok with that.

The Hop West is an Ice Cream Shop in West Asheville off Haywood Road with specialty vegan and non-vegan ice creams, ice cream cakes, vegan brownie sundaes, ice cream by the scoop, pints and quarts to go, floats, hot chocolate and more. There’s street parking, as well as a pay lot off Dunwell that’s only $2/hr (I suggest brining cash, it’s pretty challenging to shove a bag of $200 pennies in those tiny slots). I accidentally drove to the main creamery on the other side of West Asheville (which is presumably where they actually make the ice creams), but remembered I’d seen the storefront before right by Biscuit Head last time I was at their West Asheville local for brunch. If you’re not familiar with the area - and your GPS continuously sends you on wild goose chases; I’d suggest just plugging the numbers in directly, to avoid any confusion. I had been following The Hop West on IG for quite some time - and was really curious about the CBD ice cream that they have, but every time I ingest any type of cannabanoids I start to think that farm animals are talking to me. And, I start talking *to* farm animals - which is a bit troubling considering I don’t live on (or anywhere near) a farm. Although - I hear CBD is (actually) a non hallucinogen and great for PTSD, etc. Speaking of animals - the inside of The Hop is super cute; with bright colored walls and adorable, whimsical paintings of bears and other woodland creatures mid-dance holding sundaes and cakes and fun stuff like that. Since it’s getting kinda chilly - it’s the perfect laid back place to sit back, relax and enjoy some sweets and stay warm. I had a Vegan Brownie Sundae which is a 100% vegan (yasss!) ice cream dessert. It comes with your choice of two scoops of ice cream (I ordered one scoop of Cranberry Orange Habanero - the other a scoop of Cardamom Coconut Crema) on top of a (chewy) Vegan Brownie, drizzled with Chocolate Syrup, sprinkled with Peanuts, a large dollup of Coconut Whipped Cream, and topped with a Maraschino Cherry. The sundae was huge, to say the least - definitely enough to split. I was on a solo date, and couldn’t finish it all myself, so the nice gals working there were kind enough to give me a container to tote my leftover brownie home in. After you enjoy your Ice Cream, I suggest stopping the gift shop “Instant Karma West”, that’s just a couple doors down. They have a zillion fun things like candles, incense, CBD stuff, and mini spirit animal sculptures. Unfortunately they didn’t have my spirit animal (a depressed seahorse), but I did buy like $80 worth of candles.

I've never really been an ice cream person. I usually take a couple spoonfuls of ice cream and then put it down. Now I'm thinking I've never actually had real ice cream before because I just bought a pint of the Hop's toasted coconut (and some rum raisin for my partner) and I actually can't put it down! My go to spot for any and all ice cream in the Ville. I really dont think they have any competition. Im not biased at all either for the pricing and taste, The Hop is easily the best in AVL. They have all the eco/healthy flavors you can think of along with your basic needed flavors. My go to is the Salted Caramel 1 scoop in a waffle cone👌👌. The fact that they're open till 11 and have free wifi gives extra points too.😊🍦 VHD
