Food was great. Especially lived their stuffed French toast. Bathroom was a disaster. It is an old old building that definitely could use some attention so maybe that was the issue.

We’ve discovered this spot since ihop was closed and wanted some pancakes for dinner. Definitely a dated spot, customer service was great. Masks are highly required, one server wasn’t wearing a mask but ours was and she kept her distance as well which I respect. Food was delicious and fresh!

This place is a fantastic breakfast joint. Everyone enjoyed their food- from the melt to the biscuits and gravy, all the way to the grits. Definitely get the Ono's pancakes. You can't go wrong with peanut butter chips, peanut butter whip and chocolate sauce drizzle over fluffy pancakes. Highly recommend, and the coffee is great quality for the price point. The service was super kind and great. The only downfall was they may have been slightly under staffed so we had to wait a bit to get our bill. Definitely try this place if you've got a little extra time on your hands.

Enjoyed my breakfast here! I order the French toast sandwich with spam, cheese, and eggs. It was delicious and perfect fuel before a day of hiking. Coffee came with unlimited refills. Staff was friendly and the place was clean. Would recommend!

The portions were fairly big. You definitely get your moneys worth. It has all the Hawaiian food that you can’t almost anywhere else. The drive thru speaker or the people working it didn’t answer so we had to call to place our order. The food was delivered quickly and the workers were very friendly and polite.

A great find! AK born and raised, but I have never been to this restaurant before. Tired of the same old restaurants I frequent, I decided to venture out and I am so glad I finally did. The food is delicious and they give you so much of it! My daughter and I could only eat half our meal, and had to take the rest to go. I definitely recommend the Rainbow Stuffed French Toast!! The downside is that the service is pretty slow and the staff seemed to be in a bad mood. No smiles or friendly greeting. The place wasn’t that busy, so I’m not sure what the issue was. Our server warmed up to us though and she ended up being very nice. The hostess, however, was rude when we got there and was just as rude when she cashed me out, AND failed to give me my full change back. It was just under a dollar that she shorted me, but it is the principal. (Gets you thinking about how many people she may have done this to. Shorting people their change here and there adds up). Since I was in a good mood, needing to be somewhere, and there were people behind me waiting to cash out, I chose to just let it go. Otherwise, I would have had a few choice words to say to her. A smile, friendliness and some good customer service can go a long way. I recommend this place and would like to come back. Hopefully that hostess will have a better attitude next time.

Love how we are always greeted by staff immediately as we walk in. Seated and served very quickly. Love how they always pay close attention to the kiddos. Always providing a family friendly environment. BUT OUT OF THE ENTIRE EXPERIENCE WE LOVE LOVE LOVE THE FOOD BEING SERVED. Great local place off Muldoon. Parking can be tight on a weekend. We've come here about 4 times since we moved to Alaska. Generally with friends and family to enjoy everything from traditional pancakes, biscuits and gravy or Loco moco bowls. So far everything has been tasty.

Been here before and ate in, it was good. Ate in for dinner and it was good but my fish/shrimp/ fries were cold. My to go order for my guy was supposed to have mashed potatoes but they gave him rice, no vegetables and the waitress forgot the soup, disappointing. CHECK YOUR TO GO ORDERS!

I love this place. Their Northway location and midtown location were both better. As far as atmosphere, service, and food. But as long as the building says "Kavas" theirs a good chance it's the best breakfast in town. Portions are great. Easily 2 meals for me whenever I go and I'm full full every time. Prices are great and service is fair and honest. It's not the fastest place to get breakfast, but give yourself the extra ten minutes and get a breakfast you will remember the rest of the day. I always go for the skillets. My partner is more flexible with the menue. But every time we go we leave full and happy. Always money well spent and I'll always be back.

We stopped in for breakfast and really liked the selection and interesting combinations. One of us ordered the stack of pancakes, and it was definitely filling and a whole meal. Another ordered the breakfast fried rice and it was delicious. The same for the scrambled eggs and the omelets, too. We will definitely put this on our “Go back before we leave” list.

We go there from time to time as a group. Service is great. But be patient with services, since they are short on staff. Try the Loco Moco they have there. Very filling for a bruch plate order. Owner is Samoan and believes in big portions. He has your stomach in mind for a great time. First time there, I cannot finish the chicken strips. I had it for dinner that night. Enjoy and eat slow. And be prepared to take home food you can't finish.

A nice little spot for anytime you feel like breakfast, or some comfort food. A big menu with lots of options, not a bad kids menu either. Portions are big, which is great. My kids didn't even make if halfway through their Jr. Breakfast (3 pancakes, eggs, and bacon). A big selection of sides just in case. Service was good, only a little slow to start with. All of our needs and special requests for sides of whipped cream or cheese on the eggs and things like that were met with a great attitude of "we can do that, absolutely". Food was well cooked. A lot of it is homemade and fresh, and only a small handful of things seem to be frozen or otherwise. We had the stuffed french toast, and both the Hawaiian and strawberry toppings are really great. The reindeer sausage was the star of the meal. My kids didn't personally like their eggs, and it's probably the same liquid egg used for the omelettes if I had to guess. I had over-easy and they were great. Nothing is really seasoned except for some of the Hawaiian or islander eats, but it all still tastes good. It has that diner feeling of the early 90's, but it clean and doesn't feel outdated, just different. Nice big display of pies and treats to buy as soon as you walk in. We didn't hear music when we went in, as others have mentioned. I would highly recommend you give it a try, you're bound to find something delicious to eat and a good atmosphere to enjoy it in. Friendly staff and affordable prices (everything around the $10 range for meals).

One of our favorite breakfast restaurants. Has a decent price and big output. My boyfriend and I eat here occasionally and we've never had an issue with customer service, food quality, or wait time. The food is typically top notch I always get the Mike's Irish omelet and still have more than enough left and for just the two of us we only pay up to 45 not including the tip. We usually get black coffee, orange juice, skillet, and an omelet. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a genuinely comfortable place to eat, and enjoy you're food in peace.

The eggs Benedict were very good but I would prefer that the sauce would have the lemon flavor so I recommend ordering lemon wedges to squeeze over the eggs. The hash browns were good but they give you way too large of portion. I would rather less food for a cheaper price. I was also disappointed that they didn’t have oatmeal today.

Kava’s on Muldoon’s is my favorite breakfast place. Their food is great, always hot and served with a smile. So thankful my daughter introduced us to this neat, clean tasty place to eat. The service is fast and always friendly. Definitely five stars!

I decided to try the, "Loco moco with a side of mac!" It was the most expensive Loco Moco I ever had! Lol But it was alright . The mac salad had a little 2 much pepper, the hamburger patty didn't taste homemade, it tasted similar 2 the patties that you can purchase in bulk, at Sam's/Costco. The gravy was ono! I'd probably come back again and try something else. 4 stars for portions! 3 stars for taste.

The service is great, but anyone notice that door squeak? It has been there for so many months that I think the employees are used to it. I assume to customers it sounds like nails on a chalkboard. Everytime we go there, I always try to avoid sitting by the entrance, but we really have no choice to sit anywhere else I guess. Can they fix the squeak?

Good food and good family friendly environment. Friendly staff and quick service. The coffee is really good and we felt very welcome with our baby. Right off the highway, fair parking and plenty of seating. Good prices and just the right amount of food on the plate, not too much to make us over full and not too little that we left hungry. We finished our food and stayed longer so that I could finish my pot of coffee.

Mostly standard diner fare, but with a good twist! I got the loco moco and it filled me up just perfect for a hike! Gravy wasn't quite where I wanted it, but the mac salad was great. Service was a tad slow, but I chalked that up to us being a party of 10. Definitely worth a stop!

Food is okay. Friends seemed to like it. My plate was awful. I ordered a skillet. For one, the skillet came out cold. It was as if they cooked the food somewhere else and places it on the skillet. The food was cold and the potatoes not cooked fully at all. I got the Cajun skillet, there is literally nothing Cajun about it. The flavor was awful. The side of toast was cold and hard. We also ordered the Hawaiian crepes. I guess good if you love sugar, but other wise a complete stomach ache. Not a place I’d like to return to. I had higher hopes. This wasn’t close to all the hype I’ve heard. My husband likes their chicken fried steak, but it all wasn’t up to par for me. But three stars because the service was good and environment very welcoming.

I have been supporting Kava since they first opened. I even supported the second location despite how poor the service was. I have brought friends, family and even my twin granddaughters here. I have liked the food, the prices, the service and yes the pies. You have never been cheap on the portions and the price has always been fair. Until today! I can understand that with COVID-19 and all that prices have had to rise. But, the pancakes have always been a part of the meal. Not, so anymore. That is a $4.50 upsell. I don't agree with this at ALL. Also, fried rice is a $4.50 upsell, but think it always was. My wife and granddaughters all love the pancakes. This may be enough to stop me from coming.

When we come to Anchorage, this is our mandatory breakfast stop! Don’t let the dated building fool you, this place is amazing! The staff is friendly, and the food is DEFINITELY DELICIOUS!!! Been here quite a few times. It's a regular breakfast spot for me. Service is fast and the waitresses are friendly. Food is fairly consistent, never any issues. Definitely recommend for the price point. This is not a gourmet restaurant, it is a mom and pop style restaurant, good food at a good price. And of course the coffee is always great.

I went to Kava's on a Saturday morning about 8:30 am. It was not too busy, so everything was running smoothly. My waitress was very polite and attentive. I got the french toast and home fries. If I ever get the urge for french toast and hone fries again (and I will), I'm going back to Kava's. It was near perfect in every way. The only reason I did not give a 5th star was that I had to wait almost 10 minuets to get a to go box. The credit card reader was down, so it was cash only. All I had on me was a large bill, they had no problem accepting it. All on all, the staff was friendly, the place is a bit worn but clean, the menu selections are varied, and I plan to go back. I'd grade this experience as an A-.

We've ordered from here twice. The first time was a bust. I kept trying to get an order of the rainbow pancakes. The first time they were out, so they substituted and gave me 2 pieces of French toast with barely any topping and this tiny sides container with whipcream. They didn't even try to make up for it. Could have said we just don't have it and replaced it with something else. Instead of the sad plate I received. Was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. The next time we ordered they actually had it available, was AMAZING. And made me realize exactly how much they didn't try the first time. As a local doordasher from the experience I've seen when picking up orders there attitude could use an ADJUSTMENT.

Wasn't the worst I have had. It really just left me Blah. There was no taste to anything. I hear people rave over this place and I just didn't get the hype when I was there. Hamburgers patties and fries looked as if they came from a premade bag. Little slice of bread for blt. I will say the tomatoes, lettuce were super fresh. Drinks are expensive for the waitstaff too not make their rounds to make sure we got refills. Customer service was good up until the point we ordered. I probably wouldn't go back. Slogan. You pay for what you get.

This place is a little hole in the wall joint, that has some pretty amazing food! Although, you can tell that this is an old Alaskan restaurant... it definitely needs a revamp. Was given a mug of coffee with a plastic fingernail inside of it. It would have been a 1 star if the waitress wasn't quick to respond, and if everyone was perfect. The food portions are large, and it all tasted amazing. I would definitely recommend this spot as a hangover cure, but nothing to take your date to.

It was my first time there. Service was mediocre, at best. Sat for at least 10 minutes before anyone came to table to even take a drink order...when you first sit at a table in a restaurant 10 minutes seems like a lifetime! Monica was our server...very perfunctory....I could have been a box she was talking to for all the personal connection. Food was good...well-seasoned, large portions....I saw Monica one more time when she wanted to know if we were done.......enough said.....I’d go for take-out and avoid dine-in....unless some serious customer service retraining is conducted.

Service is not great and food is Denny's level. Not quite Denny's level in some cases. You do get big portions and the value is pretty good. But if you are looking for tasty food, I suggest other sources for it. If you are just looking for a lot of food, then hit them up, you won't be disappointed.

One of the best breakfast houses I've been to. Crazy good pineapple pancakes had plentiful fruit and more pancakes than could be eaten. Ham and cheese omelet was super big and very tasty. The ladies that served us were really on their toes and made this breakfast experience extra good. Whenever I'm in Anchorage I'll be eating breakfast at Kava's!

Love, love, love the stuffed French toast with a pineapple cream cheese filling. You don't even need the sticky, sweet topping!! Coffee was, sadly, not so good -- more like caramel-colored hot water. But service was prompt and of good cheer.

My go-to breakfast place in Anchorage. Kava's has it all, great pancakes, perfect hashbrowns, amazing omlettes and the reindeer sausage is extremely good as well. The menu is quite large and has something for everyone. Service is always fast and accurate, and the staff is caring and very nice.

Very, very happy with our first visit to this restaurant. The portions are LARGE and reasonable (~ 12$, 2018) for a breakfast platter that provides two reasonably sized meals. The staff were plentiful, courteous, and helpful. Though very busy, the wait for seating was quick and the staff cleaned up tables quickly for new seating. There were eight people in our group, all with varied orders, and the orders were all filled at the same time, with NO mistakes. I will be back.

Good food. Good service. UPDATE: The food is still good. However, on 2 different occasions after eating here, my hubs ended up having gastrointestinal issues for like 3 days after. We originally chalked it up to being a fluke or something else we ate that caused the problem. We went back a few weeks later and ended up with the same type of gastrointestinal issues for also 3 days. Haven't been back since. Thus the downgrade.

Always great food and friendly customer service. This is one of my favorite breakfast places. The portion sizes are large and for a very reasonable price - I always have left overs. I highly recommend the Cajun skillet. If you're looking for something a little different but delicious the breakfast fried rice is always a good option. If you're looking for somewhere super fancy, this isn't your spot. If you're looking for awesome food in a low key, down to earth environment this is perfect for you.

Amazing!!! Great food! No matter what, breakfast, lunch or dinner. Great prices for what you get and that is a whole lot of food. My personal favorite is the Sumo Moco. Their chicken fried steak is also great. Their deserts are also amazing. If going there you have to try the Mango cake. I like the Kava's on Muldoon better as it is less of a drive. The staff is always friendly and even when busy food comes out quick. This is one of the best breakfast joints in town and great place to take your family.

The staff here is great! The food is enough to feed 2 and maybe a 3rd person. The taste is ok they don't necessarily season their food. It's not a bad spot on a late dinner. So give them a try. Their pancakes are delicious I give them that. Huge very very huge I felt bad I couldn't finish it. Matter fact I couldn't finish my entree and tried eating pancake for dessert.

The staff deserve a 5 for sure. Very friendly and accommodating. The issue I had was my silverware was dirty (just not rinsed well, before washing). Had dry food stuck on it. The other was that my food was luke warm. It didn't seem fresh and my toast was too hard. Aside from those things, the place could use an update. But the staff were amazing.

Walked in on a Sunday to find a busy restaurant. They sat me almost immediately and my server was quick to come by and check on me. The corned beef hash and eggs were delicious. Coffee wasnt as great as people made it sound, and I was literally the first in the door. Breakfast was good if only a bit unconventional- I ordered the bacon and mushroom omelette, which they cook the omelette plain and put it on top of fried mushrooms and bacon. Location is great though, but certainly not my first choice for breakfast spots.

I haven't had anything truly mind-blowing yet, it has more of a diner feel than fine dining, and it's not up to par with some of the great places I've been to in other locations, but it's very likely the best breakfast diner in Anchorage and I always leave satisfied. Reindeer sausage is tasty, and I really like their mocos.

The food was very good. My daughter in law had the French Toast. She said it was her favorite and it was great. I had the basil tomato soup. It had pasta in it. I didn't find soups on the menu so I asked what soup they had. She told me basil tomato soup, but didn't mention pasta. I removed some of the pasta as I can't eat flour products. Love this restaurant! I have never been disappointed with this Kava's location. Every time I am in the mood for home cooking, but don't feel like cooking I go here. The pork-chop breakfast is amazing! Also the teriyaki chicken is the best! The owner is a very kind understanding man who makes sure that his employees are respectful and clean. We are always greeted with warm smile and asked how we have been. We frequent this place a few time a year and we are never forgotten.

Kava's is a great local experience with friendly staff, and a great blend of traditional breakfast and Polynesian cuisine to choose from. We visited on Mother's Day recently, and although the service was slower than usual, the food came out great. Typical wait times are minimal, prices are in line with similar restaurants, but the food is above par when compared to their competitors. If you are on Anchorages east side, I highly recommend stopping in for a meal.

The apparently actual Hawaiian dish “Loco Moco” is quite an interesting sight already but the sheer size of the breakfast fried rice almost fills you up. 😅 I wouldn’t recommend Kava’s for the less hungry but if you are having a big day or just generally a big appetite this should be heaven for you. 😁 I have not tried SPAM until today as I was a wee bit scared of it but here it is quite a common ingredient and slightly fried it actually is quite the delicious addition to a meal. 🙈😂

I would give the restaurant 5 stars easily, because the food is awesome, but the customer service from the waitresses is seriously lacking. The waitresses wait (no exaggeration) at least 5-10 minutes EVEN WHEN THERE'S LESS THAN 3 TABLES TO WAIT ON and isn't busy. They also dont bring coffee or beverages out until the food comes out, so buy that time your aying for a coffee youve onky had half of. Like I said, the food rocks but they need to work on waiting skills.
