Pop’s has a very retro look on the inside. They don’t make their own waffle cones so it is missing that fresh cone smell. They have a lot of ice cream flavors to choose from alongside a few flavors of Italian ice! There was a line to order and it was worth the wait! The ice cream was yummy and delicious! The pistachio was flavorful and the rocky road was good too with just a few ice flecks. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of ice cream received! Overall a very solid ice cream shop for when you’re in Alexandria!

SUCH A CUTE ice cream shop!! Pop’s homemade ice cream is absolutely delicious! They are the BEST ice cream shop in the neighborhood!! My favorite ice cream here is yellow cake. YUMMY!! Gem of a place in old town Alexandria. This place was on our list to try while visiting the historic old town of Alexandria, the flavors are great and the ice cream was quality, we tried kahlua chocolate chip and loved every bit of it. I recommend this place to all ice cream lovers, a must visit.

Coffee butterscotch flavor is amazing! It's kind of a rip-off but the inside is very retro and cute. Fun to go with friends but if you are by yourself you can probably find a cheaper place that is just as good.

I visited Pop's on my birthday; I was not in a cake mood and really wanted ice cream. My family and I were visiting for the weekend and chose Pop's after dinner. We all enjoyed our ice cream. We didn't wait long in line and the prices were fair. I ordered The Brown Dog sundae and it was soo good. I couldn't even finish it, great portions.

pops is my favorite ice cream place in old town! the flavors are fairly classic but so delicious. the prices are pretty cheap and the servings pretty large. while pops ice cream scoops are amazing, i go for the sundaes. they have many different sundae options, some classic and some more unique. i’ve tried the campfire (s’mores), the johnny appleseed (apple pie with caramel), and the old towner (pecan pie with chocolate and caramel). my ride or die is the old towner, followed by the campfire. the johnny appleseed is also great, but the old towner is just flawless. pops is a great place to end your night by the water, or just to enjoy a amazing sundae or ice cream scoop.

Stopped in on a whim after a late lunch. Place had a few folks inside but there's a good amount of space if a line builds up. Flavors are on the ice cream case and on the wall so you can get a good view no matter where you are of the menu. Large amount of flavors. I didn't see signs/info about if they make their own ice cream or it's brought in but I chose Coffee Butterfinger as I've never seen that combination before. It was delicious! Prices were a little high but not terrible, and not necessarily unexpected for prime real estate on King St. Definitely worth stopping in on your still, enjoy the outside patio.

Pop's old fashioned ice cream is a small business located in the heart of Downtown Alexandria, Virginia. They've been serving up homemade ice cream since 1940 but I don't believe it's been sold from this location that long. However, they still keep their shop looking classic and cute! They have over 20 ice cream flavors for you to choose from! Nothing this too out of the ordinary and they keep their flavors simple. Atmosphere is cute, service was friendly and quick and the ice cream was good but definitely had better. It's always nice to support small business so try them out if you're in the area! My wife and I had a scoop of Luke and Jacobs Favorite Ice Cream which was loaded with lots of mix-ins including, cookie dough, Oreos, recess cups, caramel, Hershey's chocolate syrup and maybe a couple other things but that's all we could point out while eating it. I also had a scoop of the s'mores ice cream which had everything you'd expect with s'mores, marshmallows, graham cracker bits and Hershey's chocolate syrup. My only gripe, and why it's not a 5 star place to me, is that my ice cream was icy. Everytime I took a bite the ice cream was crystallized with ice and wasn't pleasant. If you're a beginner making ice cream this is expected but not from a place that's been around for a while. I wouldn't have served that ice cream for that reason because I don't think it reflects what they're known for. Also the syrup tasted like Hershey's. Seemed like very low quality ice cream but I have a high standard for s'mores ice cream ever since I've had Graeter's S'mores Ice Cream. You would know if you've been following me ;) I would have rather had a hot fudge mixed in because I think the chocolate syrup they use has too much water in it and might be to blame for the icy ice cream. They don't list all their ice cream flavors online and I think most are rotating flavors but it's a cute place to check out nonetheless. Follow me for more reviews across America 😎🍔🍕🦖🔧

It’s creamy, scoop size is decent, fun vibe, but the ice cream is bland. We had four different flavors and they kind of all tasted pretty similar. No real distinctive flavors. We had Pistachio, cheesecake, rum raisin, and carrot cake.

Pop's is very classic and old fashioned as has a huge array of unique, delectable flavors. It feels like stepping into a candy shoppe in the early 1900s. The flavors are very authentic and fresh tasting, and I especially liked the yellow cake flavor.

This was our last stop in our mini ice cream adventure as we were getting full. I felt overwhelmed by the large variety they had, especially since they didn't provide samples, most likely due to health reasons. We agreed to end this ice cream adventure with something light - Lemon Italian Ice. I thought the lemon flavor had a good level of tartness to it, but if I had the option, I wouldn't really go for Italian Ice. I just think ice cream or gelato would be more satisfying to me. Their ice cream is so good! It was difficult to make a decision. I got the butter pecan and praline. I like their seasonal flavors. They were not busy when we came, so the staff was kind and let us taste a few different flavors.

We went exploring in Philadelphia Richard and Xavier and Laura wanted ice cream so he found a place the street was blocked off and they were having a party like party on the Plaza it was nice and ice cream was great.

Many flavors to choose from (I was not a fan of my choices: Carrot Cake and Mango). You pay $5 for 1 scoop and $6 for 2 scoops, so it's almost impossible not to be tempted to try 2 flavors. A lady serving us was a little impatient. It was stuffy inside so we sat outside on a bench, it was great. I liked the red doors.

Freshly arrived from France. We went for some fresh air before spring for a walk in Alexandria. Temperature was awesome and we stopped by Pops's Ice Cream. What a good idea!!!! Ice Cream was just excellent!!!! And the vendors was awesome. We chose, Vanilla-Pistachio and Black Rasperry-Chocolate. We felt like it was the same ice cream we always had when we were at St Tropez, at Barbarac Artisanale Ice Cream. We will be back soon.

Eh, not that great. For some reason my ice cream tasted powdery- not sure what was up with that. Also, the ice cream felt like it had melted and was re-frozen later as there were tons of ice crystals in my ice cream. Not amazing but not awful, ok in a pinch. Atmosphere was quite nice tho!

Flavors flavors flavors! It’s positively overwhelming 😊 History buffs, take note: this ice cream is bound to American legends! Old Pop would make First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt’s favorite ice cream at the White House. Yet remember that Alexandria is an ice cream destination! Give this place a try, but do yourself a favor and head over to one or two other joints too. My one (personal) complaint is the lack of creaminess.

If you are in the area make sure you check this ice cream place out. So many ice cream flavors to choose from. Personally, one scoop in the small cup is enough. The ice cream is amazing tasty!!! I’m amazed and I felt like a little kid again in this place. The staffs were super helpful and super friendly. The customer service is amazing. Parking is hard to find. Park at parking garage or couple streets down from the neighborhood. Sunday parking at the street is free.

Old school, classic ice cream spot. Tons of flavors (I had banana and coffee chip). Waffle cones were fresh and made in house. Lines can get very long here, and while they do their best to move people through you could wait up to 25-30 mins if the line is out the door. Suggest coming earlier in the evening, or wait for the line to die down a bit. Definitely worth a small wait though, and they give you a very solid amount of ice cream. Best part is you can walk right down to the water while you enjoy.

Pretty good. The line is a bit long and they really should have some seating. They could easily do so outside. They also really need more help at the counter. I don’t know if that would result in people tripping over each other and that’s why they don’t :-), but the line is long and there certainly seems to be room for more help. After watching everyone walk past eating ice cream I thought I’d try it out to see what all the hype was about. They didn’t disappoint I would definitely recommend trying their brownies. Be sure to heat them when you get home or ask for them to be heated in the store. You won’t regret it.

Came to Old Town Alexandria with some family to just walk around and we noticed the long line outside of Pops. Out of curiosity we decided to jump in line and wait the 30 minutes. To our surprise, we discovered such flavors that were exceptional. Very good quality of ice cream and we all very much enjoyed the sweet treats. I would recommend everyone to check this place out if you’re out strolling down King Street.

The rest of the decent variety of flavors are in ice cream. 3 types of cones available although waffle cones were a bit stale. prices are on the expensive side especially if you add toppings at 50 cents a pop. No real children's size to help with savings. However everything is delicious. Service is good. Workers are really laid back.

This was the first time I've ever seen or had a carrot cake ice cream, and it tasted just like a real cake; it was very delicious. Salted Caramel and Butterfinger coffee were both delicious. You get so much bang for your buck. The ice cream is very dense, thick, creamy and filling. One of the better salted caramels we have had. And they have a ton of great and unique flavors.

The server was hilarious and very personable, while the interior invoked the memories of ice cream shops that have attracted throngs of people throughout the last couple of centuries. Pleasant little ice cream parlor! They definitely provided a vintage feel. I got a scoop of the big daddy ice cream, and there was a lot, I repeat, a lot of cookie dough and fudge in it. It was a basic ice cream parlor. Super busy! Maybe not worth the wait we experienced but nevertheless they had a carrot cake ice cream which I thought was really good. Service could have been friendlier to make up for the wait but I can understand scooping ice cream all day can be tiring. There are other ice cream places in Alexandria that I personally think are better, but again this isn’t the worst ice cream either.

My husband and I went there on a busy Saturday night, and they made a small mistake with our order (no big deal anyway), but they fixed it, gave us an extra milkshake, and half-off our next order. Not the best I had... but do have to admit they do it right and bring their own flavors. So if you want a feel to traditional “artisanal” ice cream, this is a good place. COVID - they had a great idea of asking the customers to exit using the back door in order to have a good flow. However, that door leads straight to the garbage and a dark alley. Is nasty. Sadly, the way their counter is setup doesn’t leave much room to make it many plans on this, but I hope they figure something out.

Old fashioned, home made, ice cream. about 30 flavors (I didn't count, but there is a lot to choose from). i think flavors also rotate from week to week, because I didn't see "Pralines with cream" this time I went. They also do Sundaes, and maybe shakes too. There is always steady business and occasionally a line out the door (for good reason).

Priced at $5 for one scoop but $6 for two, you might as well go for it. You will not have any trouble finding flavors to love. If there's a downside, it's just that it gets crowded pretty easily and there is often a line of people who can't quite make up their minds, so don't be in a hurry.

Anytime I pass by Pops on a hot day, there's a huge queue of people waiting. Pops offers a diverse and creative selection of flavors, from classic vanilla and chocolate to butterfinger coffee and red velvet. This ice cream shop is owned by the same family that runs the Fish Market next door. Pops also features sundaes such as the Campfire, a take on s'more with crushed graham crackers, vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, marshmallow sauce, and whip cream. The selection of ice cream is pretty impressive. I wasn't even able to see all the available flavors before I made my choice of classic rocky road in a cup. It's a bit pricey - a medium cup, one scoop is $4. The texture and flavor though is very good and clearly handcrafted. My boyfriend ordered a root beer float and was pleasantly surprised by the taste. However, like I said, it's pricier than your typical Ben and Jerry's or Baskins-Robbins. Pops offers baked goods, root beer floats, and other sweets too. The store has a cozy atmosphere and sets you back to the ol' days of black-and-white checkered floors and the old-time soda machines. The decor and atmosphere definitely takes you back to the "old fashioned" ice cream parlor days.
