We originally found SmartHouse several years back when we were looking for a company to do an energy audit of our 120-year-old home. Because of the audit they did, we hired them to do the recommended work, and saw a near-immediate change for the better in our energy bills. We've used them as our seasonal HVAC company ever since. This week they installed a new a/c unit, furnace, and two programmable thermostats in our house, fixing some not-up-to-code stuff they found along the way and generally just making everything work so much better. Their employees are also always on time, friendly and funny, and give good, honest advice about your system. We highly, highly recommend them!

I was very satisfied with the installation of a new furnace performed by Smart House. The installation was done in the attic, and included some tricky maneuvers to first remove the old unit. I witnessed the crews' problem solving and their ease and confidence and use of additional manpower called in, to be successful with it. The installation of the new furnace was done efficiently, communication with me on their progress was consistent, and the prep work and clean up involved with keeping my main floor hardwoods and carpeting protected up three flights of stairs was appreciated!! Overall, the crew did an excellent job. They had a great work ethic, were on time for the appointment, and were professional and yet pleasant in their interactions with me. I would hire SmartHouse again in an instant. (I should add that the company owner actually came to my house months before the installation and must have spent 45 minutes helping me to understand my options about what seemed to be my failing furnace. This was free of charge but definitely aided me in making the decision to use their services.)

SmartHouse: SmartServiceman! I contacted SmartHouse about servicing my AC unit only to learn it would be a week before they had an opening on the calendar for me. The next day, I received a call letting me know that due to a cancellation, they could have someone at my home that afternoon. Marcus called me when he was 15 minutes out, and when he arrived, he immediately got to work. He explained a few things to me, made some helpful suggestions, made sure I had a clean filter, he even sprayed a wasp nest lurking around the window next to my front door, and he witnessed my Rottweiler repeatedly opening the door trying to see why we were standing outside of his garage. Marcus did what he needed to do to get the job done, and was on his way within about 35 minutes; he was very professional, knowledgeable and personable. I appreciated how informative and polite Marcus was with me, and I will personally request him as my serviceman each time I need to contact SmartHouse. Thank You, Jennifer!

We found SmartHouse almost by accident while looking for solutions to what turned out to be botched previous AC installation by a much bigger and more established company who we had trusted to do a decent job. Instead we ended up with a system that wouldn't cool the house. Smarthouse first correctly diagnosed the problem, then fixed it, and advised us on how best to heat and cool our 100+ old house. We now have a service contract with them for regular maintenance and they recently installed a mini-split for us. Their techs are great. Just the sort of people we would feel comfortable leaving alone in the house to finish a job if necessary.

While we didn't solicit many quotes for our attic insulation project, I couldn't imagine getting better service at a fairer price than we did with SmartHouse. The energy auditor was knowledgeable, patient in answering our many questions, and responsive to our goals of improving our energy efficiency. Scott and Luke installed a replacement HVAC for us a couple weeks ago. They were both very professional and knowledgeable. They were here on the stated time time each day and respectful of our home (wore masks, put protective booties on shoes, laid down floor coverings, etc). Great guys! Smart House has now installed a new HVAC for our upstairs as well as replace our downstairs. They are the only call we make for this service. Marc, the owner, stayed at our home for nearly 2 hours trying to brainstorm ideas to better heat and cool our home and got us a quote in less than 24 hours. Fantastic company.

This was hands down the best service we received since we purchased our home a few months ago. (I'm going to try to make this short.) When we purchased our home we didn't realize that we had an electric furnace which constantly ran and didn't make the house warm and gave us a ridiculous electric bill each month. Marc was able to come in, look at what we had and recommended the perfect unit for us. Once the installation was complete (which by the way only took 7.5 hours), we could IMMEDIATELY feel the difference in our house. Moreover, we no longer have to blast the heat and we no longer had to deal with those ridiculous electric bill. The techs were very professional and did I say, their Job pass the county inspection. I am so very happy with their service. We tried them when looking for a new company to service our AC and furnace as the last company just wasn't working - I don't know much about this stuff, I wanted someone more trustworthy and proactive! So after researching various sites for our winter tune-up, SmartHouse was highly recommended and easy to work with. After the furnace servicing, we got on their straight forward, easy to understand service plan and low and behold - when it was time to get our spring AC tune-up, THEY contacted ME! Luke just came again (he also came for the winter appointment) and took good care of us and our system, even talking about planning for future needs (our system is still running but it *is* 25 years old!)

I have been struggling to keep my home warm in the winter for the almost 4 years that I have owned my house.Their technicians are extremely professional and thorough in their inspections. Smart House performed an energy evaluation and made recommendations for me to improve the energy efficiency of my house. The quote I was given by Smart House was less than 50% of a previous quote I received. Also, they were able to perform the improvements within two weeks of the evaluation. I am very happy with the results and my house feels much warmer than before.

SmartHouse is a fantastic company to work with. We bought a bit of a fixer upper and the of all the people we have hired in the last two years, they are our favorite. They show up on time (usually early even, but they call first to make sure that's OK) and they take care of the details to keep our home clean and running in tip top shape. We have used SmartHouse for a home energy audit, adding insulation in the attic and we have had an annual service contract for our HVAC for the last two years. We have been very satisfied with all of the service we received. I shopped around before using them and the the cost for everything we have done has been very reasonable. Couple that with their excellent customer service and the deal can't be beat. Luke has serviced our HVAC for the past two years and I can't say enough good about him. He is professional, pays attention to the details (such as he always puts booties on his shoes when inside) and does a very thorough job. Plus he is very friendly and always in a great mood.

Our recent experience with Smart House for a challenging install to replace our aging 2nd floor furnace and AC couldn't have gone better. Met with Marc Bluestone initially and he was definitely up to the challenge. He provided excellent ideas and a solution to our needs with a competitive price and great financing plan. He even provided a portable cooling unit ti get us through the hot days before the installation. Ryan and his installation teammates Marcus and Tim are very knowledgeable and courteous, taking care to wear masks and gloves and covering our floors while they worked. Ryan worked inside inside a very narrow closet space and fit the equipment beautifully. Tim and Marcus worked outside on the condenser install and making sure all of the supply and existing drain lines were working properly. All in all a terrific team and experience. Five Star Rating for sure!!

This was our first time using an HVAC contractor. I was nervous about someone coming out and hammering us on various repairs since our appliances were old. Having looked at various HVAC contractors online, we liked the reviews and customer satisfaction of SmartHouse. I have to say that this was a much more pleasant experience than expected. Luke came out quickly to our house and took the time to explain what he was doing to check the system as well as what repair was really needed (luckily a relatively inexpensive capacitor). Replaced 3 HVAC/furnaces with Smarthouse Heating and Cooling in August 2020, and they have been amazing. They put in the Daikin FIT variable speed systems as they were much better priced than competitor units and seemed to have better features like dehumidification that would reduce our energy bill and increase our comfort. The Daikin FIT compressor units outside are unbelievably small and quiet, and the AC and furnace systems are very effective and fast. The only complaint we have is that the Daikin Connect smart thermostat is quite annoying and difficult to use (though attractive looking), and that has been a major downgrade from our Ecobee/legacy thermostats from before. Despite that, our electric bill has been cut by 55-70% per month over the last 3 months which is incredible and our home is heating and cooling better than before by a long shot. Smarthouse also re-routed the vent ductwork to another side of the house to greatly improve the aesthetic of our home's exterior. Our installation was incredibly difficult because of quirks at our house, and Smarthouse did not try to upsell us or charge extra because of the greater than expected labor. They just got the job done and made sure it was done right. I do need to comment that we were originally only installing 2 systems, and the 3rd broke while they were inspecting it. We were frustrated by that but since it was a 14 year old system that was incredibly loud, we opted to just replace it and smarthouse priced the replacement unit fairly enough and installed it within a week of the other units.

It's been a year since we had SmartHouse install a new HVAC unit in our home. They moved the outdoor unit from right off of our deck (where it was super noisy) to the east side of our house. The new unit has a slim profile and is SUPER QUIET. Even better, our Ameren bill shows that we are using 18.7% less electricity over the past year . . . and our budget billing has decreased by $50 per month (and we expect another adjustment/decrease soon)! KNOWLEDGABLE, PROFESSIONAL team at SmartHouse; and the HVAC unit is EFFICIENT and BUDGET-FRIENDLY. Can't recommend them enough! (In fact, we used them this month to install HVAC equipment in our renovated office building in Maplewood).

Your central air deciding to give out when summer is just getting underway is an absolute nightmare, but thanks to SmartHouse Heating and Cooling, it doesn't have to be. This was the second time the SmartHouse was at my house. I had a humidifier installed last fall and was very satisfied with the whole experience. After having some recent problems with condensate inside the furnace, I decided to call this company again. Since it is hard for me to get away from work I asked to be notified when technician is 30 minutes out, and they promptly did as requested (lots of companies refuse to do that, by the way). The tech, Marcus, arrived on time, was very thorough in inspecting everything, including the outside AC unit, re-taped all the seams where he had to open the unit, and even made sure that the bolt that was missing on the furnace motor was replaced. And that was within the price of a service call. I am more than satisfied with their service, will use them again and would highly recommend them to anyone with HVAC needs. Thank you, SmartHouse!

SmartHouse has been our preferred source for HVAC service and maintenance for the last three years, and before that they were an integral part of the the Energy Star testing when we built our house 5 years ago. We have a geothermal system, and I don't feel comfortable with just "anyone" working on it. I've been behind them doing routine maintenance at homes and have seen the results of tests they do to find leaks and holes in your homes construction. Smarthouse were really helpful when my heating went out early in the morning this week. They responded to my after-hours call quickly, and I was able to set up an appointment for later in the same day. The tech was very polite and professional - he was a tall fellow, but didn't make me feel wary in my own home. About 6 hours after I had discovered the heating failure, I had a nice warm house again! Ryan, Luke and Stephanie were wonderful to work with. Friendly, professional, and honest and upfront about the work and cost to repair the air handler on our zoned cooling system. Ryan came out and diagnosed our system on a Sunday but couldn't get the parts to fix it. Stephanie called early Monday to order the part and schedule a repair that afternoon. Luke arrived a little later than scheduled. Having worked in home repair, I know some jobs contain hidden obstacles and can put you behind quickly, so no big deal. Luke was done repairing the air handler within 30 minutes of arriving, he even checked out the outdoor unit to make sure it was functioning correctly. That applies for both their work in servicing and repairing older equipment and selling and installing new equipment.

We hired SmartHouse to install a second, new, HVAC system for a 3rd floor remodel. To summarize the remainder of this long review, we had trouble with other contractors in the past, but the folks at SmartHouse were detail oriented, technically skilled, and carefully resolved our HVAC issues. We highly recommend them. We initially worked with a different HVAC contractor to install our main system on the 1st and 2nd floors. That system caused significant condensation problems which took many visits and over four months to resolve with the first contractor. In order to avoid these problems with our new 3rd floor system, and specifically to avoid oversizing the system, we first contacted an independent consultant at Energy Vanguard to carefully determine the needs of our 3rd floor heating and cooling. They took a significant amount of information about the house (dimensions, insulation, construction materials, window sizesand direction, etc) and used that information to make a Manual J calculation. This gave us a 3rd party, independent assessment of the real needs for our system. Ultimately, we chose SmartHouse for the install for multiple reasons. They were professional, understood our concerns about correct sizing of the system, and were completely on board with sizing a system based on precise Manual J calculation. They had even worked with Energy Vanguard in the past, and made intelligent suggestions on how to make slight adjustments to the specifications to ensure the correctly sized system. Marc Bluestone, our contact, also made great suggestions, including a creative location for the return system, which significantly simplified our system layout and improved airflow. So far, about one month into it, we are thrilled with the system. I would like to specifically contrast SmartHouse with the other contractors we worked with, interviewed, or received quotes from. The folks at SmartHouse are technically inclined, and willing to look at complicated details in order to get things right. The other contractors we met with wouldn't even take to the time to do a Manual J, instead insisting on using inaccurate rules of thumb and ignoring or disregarding the calculations from our consultants. For example, other contractors insisted on a 3 ton or even 4 ton cooling system, despite the calculations calling for less than a 2 ton system. For us, working very hard to get this system right, a truly technically competent HVAC company made all of the difference. In addition, if we had contacted SmartHouse first, we could have saved the costs of the consultant, as they would have done the calculations properly and as part of the system price.

I was very pleased with the service SmartHouse Heating and Cooling provided. I had a furnace issue that the gas company told me to turn off the unit until it's replaced or fixed. The initial company I called took one look and said the heat exchange was cracked and to replace the whole furnace ($3400.00). Tim from (smarthouse) came out to the home and accessed the issue, and based on his extensive knowledge, didn't think the heat exchange was the problem at all. He gave me a very detailed explanation of why he didn't agree with the other companies assessment and recommended we first service the furnace and run diagnostics to see how to just fix what wasn't working. In the end, after a thorough inspection they fixed the unit and the cost was only $89.00. What impressed me most was that he could have tried to sell me a unit but decided to take the moral high ground and earn a client for life. If the furnace ends up breaking, which eventually it will, I will 100% call them first.
