We had one radiator replaced with a new one and two refinished. We set everything in motion in May, taking advantage of their promotions, and had everything installed late September. I've including before and after pictures. This was not inexpensive. This is a specialty business, they do what your average plumber cannot. Could not be happier with the refinished radiators and the new radiator is beautiful. Steamworks has turned what were eye sores in our home to attractive elements. The crews that took and brought back the radiators did so with care, didn't leave a mark on my soft wood stairs. Thanks to Evan for solving our issue with the existing piping for the new radiator - solved it with real know how and better than I imagined. Great work!

New England Steamworks replaced my leaking steam radiator with a beautifully refurbished model. They worked quickly and effectively and made sure that it was all properly installed before leaving. The new radiator is great and is just what we needed. Only downside is that these things are expensive (not really NES's fault) and it took a while to schedule the installation.

Patrick came out to look at the radiators in the house because several have been leaking and he quickly noticed that the valves needed to be replaced which he did and that they needed to be on a slight slant for which he put shims under the radiators. Only the best experiences with SteamWorks. We’ve needed them twice now, and they’ll be the only ones we use for our steam heating/radiators. Most recently we contacted them over Thanksgiving (because everything breaks during the holidays), and they were accommodating and helpful in walking us through what had cracked and future maintenance tips. We have a 130yr old house, so this is very appreciated. They just have great courtesy, timeliness, and they actually know what they’re doing. Very knowledgeable — and that’s hard to come by nowadays. We’ll be using them for years to come!

They did an inspection and were able to give us quotes for multiple options for fixing our steam heat. They also were kind enough to fix the NEON GREEN water in our boiler! Were late to start due to rush hour traffic. Came back and completed the job, were able to explain what the changes to piping and venting would do, and what would need to happen next. New piping looks great and we're excited to see it work next winter.

They were able to provide us with an inspection report and identify our issues. My boiler of just 13 years failed prematurely just before the heating season. I got several quotes. While SteamWorks did not provide the lowest quote, they won my business with their knowledge of steam systems, their willingness to convey their knowledge, and their promptness and patience in responding when I had questions. Their website is very professional and supported a virtual assessment of my needs with relative ease. They communicated with me every step of the way via text and email which went a long way to reducing my anxiety over what additional problems they may find in an old basement like mine. The end result was a beautiful installation and I could not be happier. Update: 4/27/2021 First I should talk about performance. What a difference having a properly installed boiler has made. My previous boiler was installed by Sears which I now know (if you run steam, I highly recommend reading The Lost Art of Steam Heating) ran "wet", which resulted in it's early demise (exactly 9 months past warranty). This steam boiler runs as it should, dry. They know this because they installed a meter to measure the low level fill activity. On top of this I know because I never hear it turn on, very unlike the previous boiler which filled multiple times a day in the cold part of the winter. I had my first year end service done, which prompted this update, along with some insulation of the near boiler piping, both done by SteamWorks. I really appreciate the way SteamWorks schedules service. To be efficient they send early notice out that they are scheduling in your area in the coming weeks, provide time windows from which you can choose a convenient time, and follow up with multiple modes of communication (email and text). The work they did was beautiful (picture added) and left the work area clean and tidy. They followed up with a combustion report (in 20+ years of cleanings I've never seen a combustion report). Second only to their extensive knowledge of steam systems, I greatly appreciate their high level or professionalism in everything they do. 2022-12, Called on this great company once again. This time to to install a radiator in the middle upstairs bedroom. Haven't had direct heat in this room since I purchased the house 20+ years ago and it was about time to add it. This involved tying into the boiler, running a new horizontal and then passing a vertical up through the first floor into the second. Guys were great, worked quickly, listened to my concerns on placement, and cleaned up before they left. They moved a large radiator from one room to the new location then dragged a smaller one down from the attic that wasn't in use. I thought it was kind of a big ask but they had no complaints. The room is now toasty warm and the installation looks clean and professional.

(New customer- 1st Experience) I was not expecting all the techie stuff available from this company- from SMS services, to GPS tech tracking to instant PDF inspection report and invoicing. Issac was very thorough and explained the why and how of my system and the needed repairs. Quick and quality service. Very pleased to sneak in on a short notice cancellation opening. You just earned a life long customer!! 12/23/22 Another visit during peak winter time and it was fantastic. Since it wasn’t an emergency (leaking valve that I closed) I wait to be schedule for an appointment with other local Cranston customers. The email updates and booking were wonderful! Unfortunately my old boiler died a few weeks ago and I needed a replacement. I called New England Steamworks because of their specialization in steam systems in old houses like mine. Once the appointment was scheduled everything went like clockwork. The crew showed up at 7am and once I opened the basement door for them they were completely self sufficient. The job took two days. They let me know the first day what they expected the timeline to be and it was pretty much bang on. They were also very tolerant of my cat insisting on helping them. Once the job was done they walked me through everything and gave me a demo on skimming the boiler. After being without heat for two weeks the house feels REALLY nice now. All in all while I wasn’t looking forward to replacing my old boiler, they made it as painless as possible.

They replaced a couple of leaking radiator valves that were in some tight spaces, Hopefully will help with issues of adding water too often to boiler. They fired up the boiler and already i noticed radiators heated up more quickly than before the work was done. These are the go to guys for any issues with steam heat.

NESW was contacted to quote for new boiler installation. Patrick was on time, personable, and knowledgeable. He patiently answered all my questions. He made recommendations and an adjustment to my existing boiler and one radiator. The fee for the visit will be applied to future work should I accept their quote, which is pretty great. Most contractors will charge for a quote and not apply the money to future work. Great experience and look forward to working with them!

Evan did a very good job at explaining everything while doing the assessment. Then revealed the issue he felt was causing the problem. He made repairs and then showed me how to skim my boiler. He allowed me to video tape him explaining it to me. This was a second call about the problem so they waived the service call fee and charged for repair and time to do repair. It was just done today so I will have to wait and see if the issue was taken care of.

New England Steam Works understands steam systems. After having my local oil company install 2 new boilers in my 2 family home TWICE in the last 20 years (that's 4 boilers! none lasting more than 12 years), I gave myself a long overdue education about steam heat. I had learned the hard way that too many local plumbers and oil companies just don't seem to have the knowledge and don't understand importance of properly sizing a boiler and properly piping steam heating system, especially when it comes to the near- boiler piping. I wasn't up for another expensive mistake. I called Ryan at New England Steam Works this time. The New England Steam Works crew was punctual and professional. They installed 2 new Burnham Megasteam Boilers THE RIGHT WAY! - using 2 risers out of the boilers, appropriately sized dropped headers, corrected all the piping mistakes from previous installers, replaced/re-routed condensate returns as needed, added proper main venting as none previously existed, added a Vaprostat to the boilers, corrected pipes that were pitched the wrong way...all issues that were missed or ignored in all my other 4 installs. I also had NESW install a new ROTH oil tank and pipe in a new radiator to part of my house that had no heat. All I can say is "Ryan - you won my business permanently." If you have steam heat you need to call Ryan at New England Steam Works. Yeh - his price was higher than my local guy, but trust me - there is value in knowledge and New England Steam is worth every penny!

I'm a pretty in-depth DIY-er having spent 25+ years restoring a Victorian house in Danvers MA and now just starting work on a Queen Anne in Willimantic CT... but when it comes to heating systems (steam-driven radiators in particular), my view is that you need to defer to GENUINE expertise, and realize the old adage of 'you get what you pay for' is TRUTH. Both Nick and Patrick from New England SteamWorks, who recently did work on my heating system (new valves, new pipe run to a radiator, some other items) were definitely extremely knowledgeable, professional, and completed the work in excellent manner. They even pointed out that one item I had agreed to on the work order was not actually needed, saving me almost $1000 off total cost. I highly recommend this company, and their staff... my only regret is that I wish they were located closer to my home, as it does take a little time to get a service call set up and conducted but it is worth the wait.

Hi, I really enjoyed working with these guys. We have a steam heat system and needed to update our boiler system. They installed a new system that is running more efficiently than the previous one. New England SteamWorks is knowledgeable and skilled in what they do. There service is worth the cost and competitive. Pat from New England Steam Works came out to finish our steam delivery pipe insulation and to fix a thermostat wiring bug for our new replacement boiler. Professional, almost overly polite and courteous, Pat LISTENS well. With an old system and four zone valves of widely varying years of manufacturer, spliced wires and multiple old 24 volt transformers this was no easy task. Because Pat listened and asked a multitude of questions, we finally found an inconsistent years old wiring problem, that when corrected; everything operated as designed. Pat is a good teacher, as this whole boiler replacement has been an involved learning experience for me. I will say, the the entire staff of New England Steam Works are professionals and superb craftsmen. I look forward to a long and happy relationship with this team and highly recommend them.

I received a referral for this company via a neighborhood Facebook group, and I'm glad I did! Our system went from "radiator gremlin" status (TONS of loud banging and clanging noises) to completely silent after the visit and maintenance. David was friendly, professional, and honest to a T about the costs and investments in our system. I couldn't be happier with the company, and will be having them back out to do some more work in the future. Highly recommend! Our home heating system would not function nearly as well without these guys!

I have been in a house with a steam boiler for 17 years. I’ve found a number of talented plumbers who have attempted to service my heating system, but they didn’t hold a candle to New England Steamworks. This company really understood my system unlike any other service person I have used in the past. The technicians were professional and patient. They solved all the problems I was reporting and my system is running with higher quietly and more efficiently than it ever has. Additionally, they were so patient with a homeowner who had a metric ton of questions. I do technical customer service for a living and I can tell you from personal experience, that one of the worst things is someone looking over your shoulder while you are working. I was that guy today. This being the first chance I’ve had in 17 years to get questions answered I couldn’t help myself. They were professional and informative, exactly what I was (perhaps rudely over their shoulders) asking of them. Overall I would more than highly recommend this company to anyone who wants or has a steam heating system. I’ve been all the way around this block and these people know these systems better than anyone I have ever come across.

Estimate was very detailed. No surprises. By no means the cheapest but by far the best. Work was done as promised and on time. I hired them because they were the only ones who truly understand steam. Others just wanted to slap on a new boiler and the same problems will continue for another twenty years I will have to wait until heating season commenced but I am confident the new system will deliver a better heating experience, in a lower cost and a quieter system

On top of the standard boiler inspection they replaced a valve and a main vent too and finished in less than 3 hrs. My only complaint was that there could have been better transparency around the waitlist and how long the wait might be - for me it was from early Oct to early Jan (3 months) to get off the waitlist and get scheduled. I’ve had these folks out to my house twice now for annual maintenance. They keep my steam system working great, and they made a recommendation for a minor upgrade last year that greatly improved performance. And it didn’t even cost much. This year, I needed to replace a failing circulator pump for one area of my house with forced hot water, and I asked them to help me figure out why my nest thermostat wouldn’t work. They took care of both without an issue. I can’t say they they’re super cheap, but I feel like I’ve been charged reasonable prices each time for the services they have performed, and I have no complaints. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! David arrived on time, explained exactly the maintenance he’d be doing on our gas boiler and steam system, and then answered every question I had (I honestly hovered a bit while he was working because I couldn’t believe how much he knew!) while fixing and explaining how to maintain every convector system in our home. Our home had not been lived in for 5 years, so he cleaned out every part of our boiler, replaced the old and broken parts, and ran every test to make sure the boiler was functioning as it should be. He then walked to every problem area of our home, replaced the vents that needed it, and made sure we understood how to replace vents in the future, which kind to buy, and how to get in touch in case we needed or wanted extra support. He talked us though how to balance our system and was so honest and helpful. He was so patient, knowledgeable, and also very understanding - he even laughed with and waved at my one year old, who was very entertained by the whole visit! I am just sad that I didn’t place a service order sooner. I honestly felt hopeless about our system before this visit and David made it feel less overwhelming and much more manageable. We will be absolutely be using them in the future to help maintain our system!

Basically I requested routine maintenance knowing there might be problems as I have done nothing with regard to servicing my boiler for the 14 years I have owned the home and the boiler is 21 years old. Right off the bat you know you have a reputable company when they say there is no need to replace it. If they were just trying to make money off of a customer like myself, who lacks any knowledge, they would say replace it and I would be in for spending way more money. So all that to say I find them honest. I might also add the gentlemen who were here were articulate and explained things and left the basement as neat and clean as when they arrived. Great company. I have used New England Steamworks since I bought a house with a steam heat system three years ago, and they have worked absolute magic. The steam heat system in the house was in poor shape when I moved in. Indeed, almost all the radiators and even some of the pipes spewed steam and leaked water, half of the house was consistently about 20 degrees colder than the other half, a sensor would incorrectly detect a vent blockage and turn off the heat almost weekly, and the steam pipes would bang so loud that it sounded like the house was in the middle of the D-Day invasion of Normandy. I was honestly worried that the heat system had been neglected by the previous owners to such a degree that it was beyond the point of repair. Luckily, the New England Steamworks team was able to fix the radiators to fix leaks. They replaced some of the incorrectly installed main pipes, and added vents get the house to heat uniformly and very quickly. They corrected the thermostat/sensor/boiler wiring to prevent false senor reading shutoffs. And they performed their boiler maintenance that thankfully stopped the pipe banging. Their annual maintenance has kept my heat system working perfectly for a few years now, with the only sounds being a whisper hiss from the radiator vents. I will continue to use them as long as I have a steam heat system.

Two technicians did a great job, fairly assessed the boiler, and arranged for a clear complete quote before end of day. Courteous, competent, good workers, intelligent - wish all the services I got lived up to this. I hate to spend money, but when I have to, companies like New England Steam Works lessen the pain by delivered value. Part II: The last two days a team of three New England Steam Works technicians - Emilio, Mike, and Patrick - removed an existing system installed 5 years ago by another firm which had failed catastrophically. The team replaced it with a beautifully installed system from Weil McLain. The team was on time, worked efficiently for two days, and left today with a beautifully installed new system which gives every promise of being around for decades. Steam has long been a hobby. What New England Steam Works installed is as near my perfect system as imaginable. The installation team was competent, friendly, courteous. They did not leave until they had instructed me on proper use and care of the installed system.

These guys are great. You can tell that they are invested in performing their jobs as efficiently and professionally as possible. They use technology to streamline as much as they can, which translates to cheaper prices for everyone. To give a couple of examples, instead of calling you fifteen minutes before they arrive or not calling at all and just showing up they give you a gps link so you can see how far away the technician is. When they inspect your system they send you a report instead of just listing what is wrong. They were more expensive than our plumber, but not twice as expensive and they specialize in steam so they understand it better.

It can be hard to schedule (be prepared to wait a while to be able to set an exact appointment date) and it is a bit pricey but it is well worth it. These people know steam and they know it well!

Ryan spent an entire day via phone and email helping us try to coax a few more sputters of heat from our system, and also made sure we weren't going to blow up our house. When we all had determined that the boiler was well and truly done for, moving forward with hiring the NESW crew for the replacement was a no-brainer. Even as a no-heat call, it was still a 10-day wait until they could get to us - and I later found out it was that quick because some kind soul who was managing to limp along their not-quite-dead-yet system let us move up in the scheduling line. Thank you, benevolent stranger, you are a wonderful human. Before our naïveté did our system in, it seemed to have been working just fine, apart from uneven heating with our upstairs being a roasting 80 degrees when the downstairs barely registered 60. Since the new install, the heat has been significantly more even across the house. Follow-up maintenance was clearly explained and the skimming process well demonstrated. We feel that we've got a road map for keeping our new system functioning for many decades to come, and someone to call if we need to troubleshoot anything. Friendly, quality, and compassionate service. You might (and that's a big might) be able to find someone who can get to you faster, but you won't be able to find anyone as good as these guys with as much experience with steam systems. I promise, that expertise is worth the wait. Once they get started, they are a well-oiled machine (excuse the pun). Also, they are literally getting to you as fast as they possibly can. They wrapped up 2 full days of work at our place around 6pm on a Friday - and went to start on another call before they finished their day. TL;DR - Ryan and the New England SteamWorks crew are friendly experts dedicated to doing right by people. You just can't get better than that, so be prepared to pay a fair price for the quality and that you might have to wait your turn. It's ok. They will get to you, and it will be worth it.

And, Is there anyone who truly cares about steam heating systems? Well, Ryan Curran, the owner and operator of New England Steamworks definitely fits the bill on the last of these questions. He is passionate about keeping steam heat systems up and running at peak efficiency. Not only does he have a wealth of knowledge, but he was happy to explain the nuances of our heating/hot water system when he came to service our boiler. After making initial contact, I had to wait a couple of weeks for him to be in our area - he groups appointments regionally to cut down on costs. But I am delighted that I waited rather than go with “Joe the Plumber” who knows a *little* bit about steam systems. He’s only been gone a couple of hours, but I can already tell that our heating system is running more efficiently thanks to the new vents he installed. I made a lot of progress from when we first moved in. However, I was stuck. I could not get heat to the west side of the house. I redid all my venting, verified my mains were piped right, cleaned the water in the boiler. I hired Steamworks to do a boiler service and while his crew cranked away at that Ryan pin pointed the last small issue that literally prevented my boys rooms from getting warm. I fixed the issue and everything worked great. Only complaint is the 3 weeks it took to get on the schedule. There is a shortage of people that know what they are doing, so while annoying I was going to wait.
