My repair didn’t cost that much and my technician Sam was great so I decided to buy an amazing air cleaning product and he installed it same day! What a great service , it’s no wonder Sunset has been in business for 100 years!

First we received a text from Sunset with a description and photo of our tech Samuel. Then Samuel called and let us know his approximate time of arrival. When he arrived, he was so kind and courteous. He worked on our heater quickly and thoroughly. He fixed it and let us know why it had shut off and what we can do to prevent it happening again. The customer service from beginning to end was top notch and there were no crazy fees associated with our repair. I highly recommend Sunset Heating and cooling!

I want to share my experience with sunset heating and cooling. I've used them for servicing my furnace for years always pleased with their honest evaluation and work ethics. My furnace reaching the age of 20 years was wore out!! Getting to the point I needed to replace it. The experience was rewarding. I was scheduled quite quickly,they sent me a technician John Curran. He was amazing very professional . The furnace is located in crawl space down a ladder in a very tight area,the opening 3'by3'. John went to work getting the old furnace out in pieces and cleaned as he went.I was very impressed. Then got new furnace ready for installation and began installing my new furnace!! He worked very hard all day and into early evening. I was pleased with his job performance. I would recommend John Curran to anyone who needed their furnace replaced. I love my new furnace. Matt was terrific. Very personable and Sunset is fortunate to have him. Even though it was a repair call, this 70+ year old furnace didn't really end up warranting the potential cost that may or may not have yielded results. Matt went over the options of a new furnace very thoroughly and got the installation crew out the same day. So refreshing to know people like him are around and he seems to really enjoy what he does. Definitely will hire Sunset for future needs!

Every person we have dealt with through Sunset has been professional and friendly. They have been maintaining our AC/furnace for about 5 years. We had our heat pump/AC replaced a couple years ago, but went with a different company. Now we wish we’d stayed with Sunset. That company did an OK job but we didn’t feel as “taken care of” as Sunset leaves us feeling. So, when we re-upped the annual inspection with Sunset, and they said we might want to consider a new furnace (ours was WAY past expected life span), we didn’t hesitate. They just finished installing it and we’re very happy with how it went. We trust this company implicitly.

Tim was great. He came earlier than expected and we weren't yet home, but he waited patiently for us. Another local company said our furnace wasn't fixable without replacing the control board and another really expensive part. Tim replaced a blown fuse, and it was up and running in no time for less than $200. We have used Sunset before (7 years ago), and we were happy with them then as well.

Shawn went above and beyond to make sure our unit is safe inspecting and cleaning extra areas when he was only called out for a diagnostic. I wish all businesses and operators went to the lengths he did. He only charged us for the small diagnostic fee but gave us a wealth of knowledge and helpful tips for the future. We called Sunset because we'd seen paperwork from them in the documents left to us from the previous homeowners. They came out same day. We had a high pitched whine coming from our furnace and with these 100° days wanted to be sure it wasn't going to breakdown. He found the cause and helped us address it. Then after noticing several red flags we wouldn't have, he took a much closer look through the whole unit, even scoping the heat exchange tubes (might be wrong terminology) to be sure our one year old is breathing safe air through the winter. I appreciate him very much. It's the people that make a business, well done Sunset.

My air conditioner stopped working on the first few really hot days of the year, and I was able to schedule service within a week! Our technician was nice, professional, speedy, and friendly! I had reached out to a few different HVAC companies and Sunset had prices that could not be beat. They were able to schedule my installation quickly. They showed up on time and we’re diligent on their work. Roman who works for Sunset was very communicative and made sure to answer all my questions and touch base with me throughout the process. I am a local real estate agent and I’m very particular with installing a new system into my home and they made sure to accommodate my requests. There were quite a few people that were involved with the process but they made sure to text me the contact information of all the employees that would be coming to the home to help with the work.

Sunset did a full install of a new heating system and ac system as well as a new thermostat. 2 day job and Del and Ken were professional and on time each day. They put down tarps, clear plastic, kept everything clean and hauled away all the old product, garbage etc. Del was happy to spend as much time as we needed to go over the new system and never in a hurry (it was a 98 degree day). We finally have a great working system, done right. Highly recommend.

He listened to all of my concerns, answered all of my questions (I had a lot, I’m a new homeowner) and gave me tips on what I need to do when we do some remodeling. He was super knowledgeable and quick to figure out what was wrong and fix it at an affordable price. Some repair people have tried to take advantage of me by scaring me into the ‘what-if’s’ but not Jason. Eric E. from Sunset was professional and friendly. He showed and explained clearly to us where the problem was. Our furnace was up and running within less than 5 minutes. He also inspected the furnace and check inside the house for CO level to make sure there was no health concern. As opposed to simply saying that our 20+ years old furnace was too old and needed to be replaced, he inspected the interior of the various components and showed us live image/video using a camera mounted tool connected to his phone. He showed us rust and burnt spots inside the combustion chamber, and pointed out places where cracks are starting to form. His suggestion of replacing the system was based on facts, not just a gut feeling. After the inspection, he suggested several options such as getting onboard with a maintenance plan with Sunset or replacing the furnace, but he never made us feel pressured to go with a specific option. We ended up getting a quote from Sunset. Eric contacted the office for us and Sunset was able to send a representative, Jeff R., within the next hour to suggest new furnace options. We are going to get a few more quotes from other companies because a new furnace is a big expense, but whether or not we end up getting the new furnace from Sunset, we are extremely happy with their service and would highly recommend Sunset Heating and Cooling (and Eric!) to everybody!

Amazing service by both technician Sam and electrician Nick... my furnace stopped working suddenly one night. Sam made sure my furnace was still functioning properly (although not getting any power) and Nick discovered the reason (an incredibly tiny piece of wiring insulation) within a few minutes and had the heat back on! Our neighbors had a very positive experience with Sunset H/C and suggested them to us. We had been limping along in the summer heat with our very old 25+ years old HC. Our furnace was just as old. From the moment I contacted Sunset I was impressed with their friendliness and immediate response with getting me an appointment to have someone come out and check our AC. Nathan C. was wonderful and did a thorough review along with writing everything up. A truly wonderful guy. He explained repairs would come very close to costing us what a new system would cost. I kind of knew we needed a new system. Nathan contacted Sara B., the Comfort Advisor, who was out the next day to help review and suggest AC for our home. She was another positive, delightful person. She went over financing, etc. Was always available when I had additional questions later in the week. Within days we had three wonderful guys from Sunset out to put in our new system. John C., Dylan and Zach were respectful, diligent and professional - not to mention hard workers the entire two days. We could not be happier with this company and the work they did. Next was manager Rob who worked the warranty issue quickly and made sure I was treated fairly regarding cost. Then John, Gabe, and install manager Rich worked a long day in the rain and after dark to get a very stubborn install up and running. All of the aforementioned team members were polite, personable, professional, and wanted to ensure my system worked as it should. We were provided with a quote by Sara Bainard @ Sunset to install a ductless multi-zone heating & AC system into our condo, and paid a deposit of 1/2 the cost prior to installation. When the installers showed up, they commented the work required was far greater than anticipated, and that they were frustrated Sara's quote did not take into consideration the cost to lift the condenser unit to the roof, or the proper location of the upstairs indoor unit. The installers left without undertaking the installation, and never returned. I had to call Sunset to find out what was going on, and received a call the following day from Sara who indicated Sunset did not want to install the system, even if I arranged to have the condenser unit lifted to the roof at my expense. Sara indicated I would get a refund of my deposit in 3-5 business days, which didn't happen. I had to make several follow-up calls to Sunset to finally get a partial refund, and it took almost two weeks. Although I received no goods or services from Sunset, they refused to refund my entire deposit, and instead chose to keep more than $200 of my original deposit. I gave Sunset a chance to fully refund my deposit prior to writing this review, but they refused. I am really upset and disappointed with Sunset, and don’t advise anyone to do business with them. UPDATE: Richard from Sunset just reached out to me and made things right, so I am now satisfied with the resolution of my billing issue, and no longer advise against doing business with Sunset. Their remediation efforts have demonstrated to me they are an honorable company.

Our furnace stopped working late Saturday evening. We called Sunday morning to have a Repair Tech. come to our house. The Tech. came out on Sunday and assessed the situation, told us we needed a new furnace. They sent out a Sales Rep. the same day, and we chose our new furnace. The Installation Techs. installed it on Monday, and we are back in business again! All in less than 48 hours since our furnace stopped working! We are very pleased with Sunset. We are extremely happy with our new ductless heating and cooling system. We learned that our gas furnace had issues on Monday, met with the estimator on Tuesday, and by Friday afternoon our system was up and running. The technicians were very careful of our floors and furniture, took away our old equipment, cleaned up the work areas, make sure the new equipment was functioning, and taught us how to use it. FOLLOW UP: After having written the below post, the company contacted me and scheduled service for the following day. They came and completely replaced the unit. I wanted to give it a few days of use before amending my review. It's running fine and is also less noisy than the original unit! While it took a long time to get here, and not without my prodding, Sunset made things right with me. ORIGINAL POST Purchased an AC system to tie in with my furnace in March 2022 in order to be ready for the hot summer. Instal was problematic and took 3 days rather than the single day that it was supposed to be. To pass inspection, technicians had to come back again to make some changes and tidy up their work. When summer rolled around, AC unit did not work. A call for service took a couple of weeks and repair person left without fixing anything. Two weeks after that a different technician returned and was able to get the unit running long enough to believe it was fixed. A day later it stopped working and I again notified them so. It took another few weeks to get another service call scheduled. On this last visit, nothing was resolved and the company has yet to speak to me about next steps. I've called multiple times and have not been able to speak to anyone beyond the nice person answering the phone. We are worse off than before because not only did we spend nearly 8K, but we gave away our window units, which at least provide comfort in our bedrooms at night. I get that problems and mistakes happen but I am extremely upset at how slow to respond, how inefficient, and how unaccountable they have been with us. A good measure of a company is how well they handle their screw ups.

Matt was on time, very professional, and courteous. Matt explained everything well and took photos to show me the issues he was seeing. As with most HVAC contractors, and in my experience, there seem to be countless “sales” pitches made throughout the visit to try and get the client to sign on to more work. Sunset is no different. I did like how Matt provided options and not giving dire circumstances like “if you don’t replace this in a month, it will fail on you.” Clients like options and appropriate time to make decisions based on their individual situations (financial or otherwise). They don’t like feeling pressured into spending hundreds or thousands of dollars. I did not feel that way with Matt. I trusted his professional opinion even if some “sales” pitches were thrown in. I would recommend Sunset.

Had a previous company look at my furnace told me to replace it for a reasonable price called Sunset Heating & Cooling evening they were there early morning. was friendly, got to the problem quickly. Took about 20 minutes showed me the broken piece was less than $300. Can't say enough about Sunset Heating & Cooling, they are honest, professional, care about their customers

I booked Sunset for a furnace tune-up because they had an easy online booking. The advertisement was “$100 furnace tune-up celebrating 100 years”, so I booked. When the technician came out, he was unaware of this promotion, and I couldn’t find it on their website. The tech gave me a $50.00 new customer coupon. The tune-up came to $150.00. The next day I found a screenshot I had taken of the booking confirmation, which it specifically stated $100.00 for a tune-up celebrating 100 years. I called the office and they weren’t aware of this $100.00 promotion. They wanted me to send in the screenshot and they would have their manager get back to me. I have never heard from them again. If they aren’t honest over $50.00, I certainly wouldn’t use them on a larger service.

Even though he usually has a lot going on, he makes it a point to reply to me very away and work to find a speedy solution. This has been a huge assistance to me because I manage an Airbnb. Installation happened on the 2nd day. The service team was proficient and detail-oriented. Update: Aloha! Since the installation, I have noticed my furnace was leaking hot air into the garage and causing the room temperature to be lower than the garage. Luckily, John Curran and Kaimana Sheldon came to the rescue, just like a couple of surfing heroes catching the biggest waves. These two gentleman had a "can-do" attitude and were as resourceful as a Hawaiian fisherman making a net from coconut fibers. After weighing their options, they decided to take a section of the pipe to create space and reach in to patch the holes. This was a smart decision that saved them time and effort - no need to take down the whole furnace. Their hard work paid off, and the result was instant - my garage is not drafty anymore with hot air. The high efficiency furnace is finally at >90%! This is an expensive project and this customer can be very challenging if there is any mistrust of a vendor’s capability to do a job worthy of $8500. I spent the most time with Mr Valdez and appreciated his calm, reassuring approach to the 1.5 day job. His post-installation instructions were so appreciated and very well done (I am a licensed physician and teacher) leaving me with no question unanswered. I can say the same about Mr Pomante and his explanation regarding the installation of a new circuit breaker and surge protector regarding which he was particularly detailed for safety concerns. His detail led me to believe his explanation was genuine concern and not a legally defensive action. Very nice men and a real credit to the company. I suggest a bonus for both men but especially for Mr Valdez who left my home impeccably clean. He double checked functionality of the A/C and couldn’t have been a better tradesman than he was. Our furnace died. We called Sunset after hours and had someone in at business opening the next day. Bad news, about the furnace. We reviewed the problem and options for replacing or repairing it. From $7,500 to $18,000. After making our decision they came by after two business days (chilly ones here) and got the heat installed the first day, AC on the second day. There was a problem with the AC, so they sent a multi-certified guy first thing the next day. He trouble shot the issue quickly. All in all a great experience. They provided people that did quick work and we were comfortable again. More comfortable now with a heat pump. Just great work. Much better than our previous HVAC vendor. We are looking forward to years of good service.

Jared Walton and Stephen Roque were super punctual (I had just arrived for my 8 -10 am window from my friend‘s house since my house was too cold). They were professional, covered my furniture and didn’t complain a single time about the difficult removal of a 36-year-old furnace! (The old guy only stopped working because a pine tree fell during our April snow storm and severed my utility cables, causing an electrical surge and ‚frying’ the furnace). They rescued a big, fat spider and were very nice to my kitty. Jared made sure that both heating and cooling worked. I know this is logical but in this cold I wouldn’t have thought of checking cooling! Before both left, they didn’t only clean the closet with hot water tank and new furnace but also my garage through which they were walking in and out. The garage was cleaner after their work than before! KUDOS!

We hired Sunset Heating & Cooling to install a zoning system on our existing HVAC last year. They were able to make time for the install during peak summer months while other companies were unwilling to schedule installs of any kind. We are happy with zoning and has greatly decreased our heating/AC bill. I will say, a portion of the duct work was not put back together appropriately and it required having Sunset back out to fix the issue on three separate occasions. I'll admit this was frustrating to go through, but the issue was thoroughly addressed and am confident it is permanently fixed. Upon completion of the third fix, I received a call from management apologizing for the initial issues and made it clear they cared about my business and wanted to ensure my trust in them and their work. While parts of the process were frustrating, I appreciate Sunset's willingness and openness to acknowledging problems and desire to work towards solutions. I trust them, and would recommend their work to others.

I had a pretty big job with plenty of challenges. Everyone involved from the sales person, Paul to the two primary installers, Jace and Tanner were amiable professional and courteous. Two AC's and two furnaces installed simultaneously was no small order but yet they were still able to pull it off on short notice and with military-like precision (as many as six guys were on site at one time or another). Special shoutout to the lead, Jace who spent four days in my tiny attic installing a furnace by himself. Somehow he managed to remove and install a furnace from a hole not much bigger than 3' square, but despite all that always managed to have a smile on his face from the moment he carefully laid all the drop clothes to protect my carpet in the morning till he wrapped at the end of each day cleaning up any debris. Sunset came highly recommended by a colleague of mine and I can now see why.

Old worn out central A/C furnace was replaced. When Cooling was first turned on 6 weeks later it did not function. Shawn was dispatched same day I called, to troubleshoot. It took 2 hours to locate the open connection which was inside the Ecobee smart thermostat but he stuck with it and fixed it. No charge for this as the installers had missed it. Working conditions for them were chaotic and cramped because a water leak in the house was being dealt with at the same time. Under the circumstances it was understandable and caused me very minor inconvenience. R & R 4 1/2 stars. Follow up 5 stars. That all took place in March ‘22. Mid June it was time for filter change. I found the filter was not quite in the right position. I called for expert advice. Alexander was assigned and arrived early in the appointment window. He placed the filter correctly and replaced the used insert. I was quite pleased with the entire process.

Elias and Jared were at the job both days. Elias talked about the project and what to expect over the 2 days they would be working. I experienced a problem with the mini-split in our condo that was installed by Wolfers in 2019. We had the system freeze up within the first year and wolfers repaired it. It froze up again in May and Wolfers came out, their technician spent nearly 4 hours and could not tell me what was wrong (you can read the one star review I gave Wolfers). I felt that something was not right. I called Sunset, it took Kyle 15 minutes to diagnose the problem, refrigerant oil was leaking. We scheduled Kyle to address the problem, he completed the work today. He repaired the defective/cracked flare, tested all 8 fittings and the system is running like it should. I found Sunset to be responsive and their technician Kyle to be a straight shooter that solved the problem in a no- nonsense way. 5 Stars all they way, thank you Kyle and Sunset

Rave review for Sunset Heating and Cooling. Saturday, with temperatures hitting 102, our air conditioning broke. It had originally been installed by Sunset 3 years ago so I called their off-hours service line. Rob picked up immediately, gave me some things to try to fix it myself and, when these didn't work, told me he would be here Sunday late afternoon. He showed up on time (in the midst of 112 degree heat), fixed the problem in 30 minutes, had lots of great advice for how to optimize AC performance in this type of sustained heat and charged me only the service minimum because this was a virtually new AC unit. Most importantly, he seemed like a great person who really loved HVAC work. Kudos to Rob and to Sunset for providing amazing service in tough conditions.

My whole furnace stopped working on a Sunday evening while I was asleep. I called around everywhere to try to get in after having NW Natural come out to inspect my furnace (they couldn’t fix it). I was at a loss when I remembered a Sunset Heating and Cooling van that used to drive the same route as me every morning from milwaukie to SW Portland. I gave them a call and they got a tech out the next morning. They gave me a call and gave me a couple options. I went with replacing it since my furnace was 17 years old. They had a designer, Justin come out to give me options and take measurements. They had a team out at 8 AM the next day. Justin had said they might not get the job completed on Friday but they would do their best. One tech named David stayed until I got home at 5 pm on a Friday evening to review everything that he and team completed while I was at work. He told me everything I needed to know about the system and then some! He’s friendly, patient, and very knowledgeable in the field. David was very patient with answering all my questions and I had a lot being a first time homeowner! We noticed a small drip and he called his buddy “Country”( I didn’t catch his real name) who came out on his way home! These guys went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of before they left. Country was also super friendly and I even got to hear him sing! I see why they call him Country! They did a two day job in one day so my kids and I would have heat for the weekend then stuck around until 7 on a Friday evening! I’m super thankful!!!! My 27-year-old gas furnace put out a smell like burning rubber or brake linings so I called Sunset. The technician did a thorough check of the furnace and determined that the smell was probably from the aging blower motor needing lubrication. He was able to add lubricating oil to it so it will keep working. He also explained the condition of all the furnace parts and what was likely to happen as they aged, and what made sense financially to fix and what didn't, if parts failed. He also went over options for replacing the furnace and even what rebates and financial assistance was available. I've used Sunset before, both to install a new furnace and for furnace repairs. They are professional, really know the equipment, and do a great job of communicating their diagnoses and options for repair or replacement.

Second repair tech to come out. First guy came twice and couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Although he thought he did, but within 5 minutes of him leaving both times, the furnace stopped working. I figured it out that it wasn’t getting air while the cover was on, so when the first guy looked at it both times with the cover off, it worked fine. When he replaced the cover and left, the furnace quit working. So when Tim Shapland came, I showed him what I figured out. He spent extra time to figure out exactly why it wasn’t getting air. He eventually did. He was super thorough and great. I will still need a repair, but now we know what the repair will have to be. He was not in a rush at all to get out of there. I recently purchased a home that had a garage illegally converted into a family room without any permits. I've been going through the process of legalizing the space with the City of Portland and was told by an inspector that I needed some duct work modified, a switch replaced, and an outlet added. I called many places and was happy to find that Sunset Heating did both duct work AND electrical work. They came and gave me a fair bid on the work I needed done. Even though they didn't do the original work, they were wonderful working around what I needed. They even discovered an unrelated issue that occurred from our roofers we had out earlier in the year. Summary: The company nearly tumbled over themselves repeatedly during the entire process. Didn't seem like they were all on the same page for anything. The installation, though, was quick, neat, and efficient. AC works very well. Details below. On boarding process was smooth and up front. Loved getting a fast, straight forward, assessment and cost. I was asked if I had WiFi and if id like a new thermostat that I could connect to with my phone to go with the install for free. I agreed. The next day, the same salesmen seemed to completely forget our deal; pulling up Costco papers. When he brought out the contract I saw nothing of the thermostat. When I asked him about it, he said "Not to worry, it comes with it." Install day came, they were on time and did a good job but when it came to the thermostat I was promised, they had no clue what I was talking about. After a short call with the home office, I was told they would come back out the next morning. They had also ripped out the power cable to my router and knocked out Internet to my home. I had to buy a new unit to replace the old one. The next morning came and nobody showed up. I had to call to find out nobody was coming. They agreed, however, that they would install a new thermostat as promised. A technician came out a few days later to do the install. It wasn't a bargain bin model, for sure, but it didn't have WiFi/phone capabilities. At this point, however, I was fine with it. Come payment time, the down payment check was entered in 90 dollars less than I actually paid so I had to negotiate briefly to prove how much I actually owed. With one problem after another, I have a hard time recommending Sunset Heating and Cooling. They did a good install but with far too many administrative mess ups.

BIG hats off to service tech Joseph Teach!! We have a "gas pack" rather than central air, a furnace, or a heat pump. Joe immediately recognized it for what it was, and found the filter (that was filthy and looked like the former owners had never had changed), which was in a crawlspace under the house, far from the unit, and hidden behind and inside a big vent. He also told us a lot about our unit, all of which was very helpful. The whole system is quieter and we are no longer sneezing and having stuffy noses whenever our AC kicks in. Sunset Heating & Cooling just replaced my single-zone electric heat pump setup (heating and AC) with a new 3-zone gas furnace and AC. This involved coordinating running new natural gas service to my house (my house was previously all electric), which they handled and coordinated. They ran the new gas lines to the places in the house I will be using gas appliances (for an eventual new gas fireplace in the living room and a new gas cooktop in the kitchen), plus a gas line to my dual-fuel gas grill, and of course the gas line for the new furnace. Their folks took care of installing the new high efficiency Lennox variable speed furnace, installing all the required venting, doing the required electrical work, installing the new AC unit outside, and installing a complicated zoned dampers in my existing ducts, so now I have the desired 3 zones (and three thermostats!). They cleaned up the work site, re-insulated the ducts they disturbed, and did what I expected them to do -- be clean and professional. The whole thing took 5 full days, each chock full of busy-ness. When things didn't go exactly right they were good about correcting the issues in a timely manner without any fuss. Nobody is perfect and when it's not I expect folks to fix what's wrong and Sunset has (so far) done just that. I'd recommend them, esp. Steve their sales rep who worked with me during the whole process.
