When we wanted to replace the knob-and-tube wiring in our 1930s home, we thought of Stafford who had done a nice job for us on several past projects. We received a detailed bid, a clear plan and a fixed timeline for the project. They discussed and explained everything and were adaptable to unexpected changes. The work was completed straight through with no gaps in the schedule. The team was cheerful and upbeat with no foul language or loud music. They cleaned up every day and overall, we were pleased with the lack of mess. We would be more than happy to use them again for another project. In fact, they will be soon be doing a similar project for our son.

He then performed a full check-up and cleaning of our boiler. What did we gain? I needed an electrician to hook up my new outdoor sauna heater. Chris came out and quoted the project, then it took awhile to get an appointment, but everything worked out great from there. They are great at keeping in touch by text and phone so you are alerted to their arrival They showed up as scheduled, were polite and professional, and left the premises as if they hadn’t been here. No complaints. I would recommend them and use them again for my electrical needs.

We’ve had good experiences with Stafford in the past but today was definitely worth a shout out! Our furnace went out last night during a snowstorm that dropped over a foot of snow. Despite the weather & roads Stafford got Gab to us to assess the problem, source a part nearby, and fix the furnace before the end of the day. When we bought our house, we didn't realize how poor the electrical system was. Even a simple matter of replacing a 3-way switch was complicated by the older BX wiring and the non-standard use of the color coded wires. I was recently injured and of course our kitchen switches pick this time to die. Stafford was able to fit us in earlier than expected due to their efficiency at another job. They were in the home less than 1/2 an hour, and there are no noises of arcing switches when we use the 3-ways to control the main ceiling light in our kitchen. They aren't inexpensive, but they're not cheaping out on the service, nor the equipment. I recommend them unreservedly.

We recently had SHS to install high-velocity HVAC (Unico) with a heat pump in our old home. They also replaced our electrical panel in the process. We are extremely pleased with their work and would recommend them in a heartbeat! Dan (HVAC sales) was extremely knowledgeable and came up with interesting solutions for routing the ducts through the home - which is ultimately what sold us on using them for the project. Jason came out to take a look at the electrical situation and gave us a number of options to consider. Estimates for work were drafted very quickly, and we were able to promptly lock in an install start date. Any questions that we had were quickly followed up on and changes made to the plan accordingly. Install went great - Chris, Will, and Tanner were the main crew for the beginning of the week and were very professional and pleasant guys to have around. They made sure we were involved at critical decision points and were very respectful of our home (and our cat!). Work was completed on time, which was great. We had a few follow-up sessions with techs at no charge when we had some minor things to figure out/wrap up. Overall, we are so in love with the system that they installed for us and overjoyed with the level of service provided along the way.

I bought a house with a fuse box and needed circuit breakers installed. I got three estimates, all of which came in at approximately the same dollar amount. But while the other two said, "This is what it'll cost," Stafford sent an itemized estimate with all parts and labor explained. They were the only one of the three who followed through when they said they would, as well. That means a lot to me. I've had them back for other, minor repairs, because I trust them.

In the middle of a very busy period, where every electrician is booked for at least a month, we had a breaker issue that we could not resolve. The team at Stafford (who we have been very happy with before) was amazing. Everyone was friendly, professional and helpful. From scheduling, helping us get on the on-call wait list. To the pair of electricians who came out first thing in the morning to sneak us in before their other scheduled call. They were able to quickly and thoroughly troubleshoot the problem, taking apart and checking every potential outlet and switch until they found the culprit. Minutes later they had fixed it, closed up, cleaned up and packed up. I continue to be impressed by the entire team, their professionalism and the quality of their work. They have a knack for making unpleasant situations as pleasant as possible. In a perfect world, I won't need an electrician again. If I do, I'm calling Stafford.

I give Stafford the highest marks for being thorough, responsive, listening to customers and not charging an arm and a leg for their work. Today a tech was here to clean and inspect my boiler, and patiently talked with me for half an hour about my concerns. Two years ago they did an AC replacement in July that involved long days in a boiling attic. The cost was much less than other estimates I'd received. I trust this company with my heating, cooling and electrical needs. They are honest and never try to sell you something you don't need.

TLDR: Completely first-rate service from start to finish. Don’t bother with some of the high-price, high-pressure ‘services’ out there; trust Stafford to the do the job right and reasonably. Detail: We have a 1958 home in southeast Bloomington that had an old (early 90s?) 20-circuit panel that was more ‘packed’ than we were comfortable with, and we were planning a few improvements that likely require power. We were apprehensive about finding a contractor during the pandemic due to supply, scheduling and price issues but decided to be ‘better safe than sorry’ and get the panel replaced. After careful research (BBB, Consumer’s Checkbook, Google/etc. reviews) on local contractors we came up with a short list of 5 Twin Cities area contractors and began the estimate process. To make a long story short, Stafford was the hands-down, no contest winner, both on price and perceived reliability, i.e., seemed more like they wanted to get even a small job done correctly than to just ‘close the sale.’ We scheduled with Stafford (they honored their initial price despite several weeks delay in me getting back to them) and we couldn’t be happier with our choice. From start to finish communication was excellent, estimate items were clear, unambiguous and brought us up to code, and any questions were answered in a short amount of time. On the day of the service, Eric and his coworker (can’t recall his name) were on time, polite, answered questions, worked the entire time, did not mess around on the job and were respectful of their surroundings. They also did an excellent job of leaving the workspace clean and in better shape than they found it. It’s been almost 12 weeks since we had the service performed and we’re extremely pleased that we went with Stafford. In brief, trust them; you won’t be disappointed.

Bought my house last October with a boiler system that was installed in 2018 by another company. Had issues last winter (my first here) not being able to get the temp in the house above 58° on sub-zero days & having to use a portable oil heater and electric fireplace to supplement. Called two other companies but $600 and 3 visits later was advised that it just wouldn't be able to keep up (although they did flush the system and ultimately I was able to get the house into the low 60's without supplementing). Had a chipmunk-behind-the-baseboard-in-the-wall issue late this summer and as a result learned that every baseboard fin but one in the house was installed incorrectly in a way that impedes air circulation, so I called Stafford for an estimate to fix them. Turns out it was likely the settings as the primary issue. Stafford was able to correct the settings and the cooper pipes are hot to the touch now, which I've not had since I bought the place last October. And all at no charge!! I'll be doing some discretionary work with Stafford next year to improve some other issues, but it doesn't seem that I'll have to have all of the fins corrected (an expensive task and unlikely to be cost effective). Bonus; I had Stafford install a mini-split system this spring but thinking it was pretty self explanatory I didn't take notes. Completely misunderstood/misremembered how to use it for supplemental heating in early winter/early spring. All I can say is #1, he was extremely kind when I self-assuredly explained what I remembered and it was completely wrong and #2, he took the time to teach me about the heating capability again (yes, I took notes this time). This stuff is all complicated-call Stafford :)

Both came on different days to evaluate and plan the appropriate improvements to my home. I have not yet contracted Stafford out, but most likely will simply due to their thoroughness and ability to communicate well and calmly.

Stafford installed new furnace and central air system, plus accessories (humidifier, thermostat, breatheClean) a year ago and now just completed the first annual Tune Up/ Safety check. Everyone that I have met or communicated with has been very nice. During the original installation of new equipment, they also moved the water heater over a bit resulting in much better access for me to replace filters. I am happy with the results from Stafford Home Service. Excellent quality work, knowledgeable nice people and competitive price. We live in a 1950’s home and had a long list of electrical that was a bit too tough for my husband and I to tackle (adding outdoor outlets, fixing broken ceiling fans, dealing with odd light fixtures... etc). Steve is great! Had a major issue with our water heater and he was able to come towards the end of his work day to take a look and get our new water heater properly grounded and running. Our furnace stopped working on a 20 degree day while we were out of town and a friend was house sitting our dog. We called Service Plus and they said they would come sometime between 10:00 am and 11:00 pm. The house was already at 50 degrees at 9:00 am. A possible 14 hour wait didn't seem like a useful solution even thought we pay for the free service. Stafford said they could squeeze us in between 2:00 and 3:00 which was much better and then worked our a way to come out by 11:00. Dusty has done work on our furnace before. He got the furnace running immediately and then called around and found the part we need and installed it same day for a permanent fix. This was a very helpful response in a time of significant need.

Just had a mini-split system installed (older home, no air ducts) and will add another 5 star recommendation. The bid was competitive (important, of course) but I'm recommending more based upon the service side, which was fantastic. The job went much quicker than I expected, the technicians were super professional, and they even did their best to work around my schedule (as like a lot of people I work from home now). I also really loved that they do the electrical in house with the same techs, so you're not stuck waiting for another professional to show up and then have the AC professionals come back. Slick! And while the installation was fantastic, (works great) just as impressive was how streamlined and efficient they are after the installation. They submit everything to Xcel for you for the rebate, and they do it immediately. It's great not having to follow up myself and figure out how to get the inspections done and everything submitted for the rebate. I had to do nothing from start to finish. Really appreciated that. While I can't attest related to the long term, so far every aspect has been 5 stars all around.

While the 1st visit seemed to last longer than needed (ending up over two hours to check out what needed to be fixed, so the cost seemed a bit high), we also knew the wiring situation was in pretty bad shape and trust them. I had Stafford install a 220 volt outlet in our garage for charging an electric vehicle. We chose Stafford as they had the cheapest quote, but they turned out to be really great as well! Everyone was very helpful and knowledgeable, both in the office and also the technicians who were out in our home. They even came out free of charge when I thought there was an issue with their work 6 months later. It turned out to be completely unrelated to their work, but they did the repair for free anyway! We will definitely be calling them if we ever need any more electrical work.

Dan Fournier was outstanding and we couldn't be happier with the results of all of the work done for us by Stafford. We live in a 1913 house with all its attendant quirks, and Dan worked with us from start to finish, providing sensible, cost-effective suggestions for all of the work we needed done. Their follow-through was outstanding, from the initial bid to the completed rebate forms we needed simply to sign and mail in (in the postage-paid envelopes they provided). We received four bids for the furnace/hot water replacements; Stafford's was last and we had yet to meet with anyone we trusted to do such central/fundamental work to our house, but Dan seemed -- and proved to be -- trustworthy and excellent. Their bid was thorough, and though their price wasn't least expensive, we had no qualms about going with them. We had many questions and exchanged many many emails but Dan patiently answered them all. The installations were all completed when and within the time frame stated. Stafford promises to stand by their work and we had the opportunity to see that this was true, as one of the dusk-to-dawn switches didn't work right and they came right out and replaced it; the duct installed was not quite straight and had tape in the middle though we'd said it would be exposed in the room and Dan thought of an alternative solution which they promptly re-installed; and they did not give up until they resolved an odd pipe sound apparently caused by the furnace and hot water work they did, even to the point of arranging for a trusted plumber to look at the problem who resolved the noise. We've had a lot of work done on our house this year and used Angie's List successfully to find really great providers. But for this series of jobs, it was almost impossible to find the kind of unanimous A's we'd come to expect as the hallmark of excellence, and several of the best reviewed providers don't work in Minneapolis. The problems within the work that we described above are apparently quite common in the kind of work we had done. So it seems especially important to emphasize Stafford's flat-out tenacity to make things absolutely right, which is what makes them above all a company we recommend without reservation and would gladly and enthusiastically use again.

I called to get estimates and they were the only company that knew a permit had to be pulled and the outside box housing (not the meter, so it's owned by homeowners) needed to be upgraded as part of the job, or else the work would not pass inspection. They also completely handled the scheduling of my inspection. They were very professional, and well worth the small difference in their estimate, because now I have complete confidence the job was done correctly. I decided that going with the lowest bid and taking a risk that the work would not pass inspection was not a good idea with a job this important. I would definitely hire them again!

We planned to install a Mitsubishi mini-split air conditioning system and we sought quotes from four HVAC contractors. One couldn’t figure out how to install it in our home, another couldn’t get around to giving us a quote, one provided an over-priced quote. Jason met the challenge and quoted a larger system and a significantly lower price. In addition, he designed a system that didn’t require that we install wall units in the bedrooms – rather a unit was installed in the crawlspace and fed two bedrooms. The quote was provided promptly and a schedule set. When the day arrived for installation Jeremy and Gabriel arrived. Jeremy noted some adjustments that could be made to the installation that would ensure that the system was as quiet as possible and made them with no change in price. The installation took 2.5 days and the installation was completely professional and workmanlike. It is rare to find a company that delivers a quality product and service at a fair price where service is delivered as promised. I would recommend Stafford without reservation.

I called Stanford recently when we came home to no heat, and outside temps below zero. They had someone come out within 2 hours, which was very impressive since it had been really cold for 2 weeks and they were undoubtedly busy. Jeremy was the tech and Gabriel was his assistant. Both were very courteous and professional. Jeremy quickly diagnosed the problem as a dirty flame sensor and took care of the problem. I was satisfied with the cheap fix. I also had them look at our gas fireplace, since the pilot light would not stay on. Jeremy believed that it was possibly due to an obstruction, so they pulled out a ladder and climbed to the top of the chimney. He said the fee for this would be $75. Once on top, Jeremy said that it was frozen solid, so they would have to wait for a few warm days before they could come back and deal with it. They did not charge the $75 now, since they were unable to fix it right then. I thought that was nice of them, since it took two guys to handle the ladder, and the windchill was well below zero. So overall I was very impressed and will definitely hire them again for hvac or electrical.

Eric was awesome! He and an apprentice did a decent sized job on my condo, upgrading the fuse box to a breaker, replacing some light fixtures, and wiring some new circuits. My only complaint is that in order to get the breaker to fit where I wanted it he had to put it in upside down and he didn’t actually notfify me about it before doing it. I would have liked to discuss other options if possible, but really that’s a minor complaint. Besides that did everything I asked him to do and he did it well, even giving me warnings and info he didn’t have to. I’d say 9/10 but I’ll round up to 5/5 in this review

Dusty came to do a quick furnace tune-up and to troubleshoot an annoying rattling sound that happened when the blower was going. He discovered that it was a (dirty) filter impeding the air from blowing through, causing the filter to rattle. Bought and put in a clean filter and the rattle is gone! Thank you!
