Sam Mechanical Services installed a new furnace, water tank, replaced turn offs in my basement, removed old electric water tank and replaced all my outside faucets. The team worked hard and long hours, being here until midnight one night to get things done. They were very professional and friendly and did a beautiful job as you can see from the picture. Everything has been working great and would highly recommend them for any work you need done.

I've used SAM Mechanical for a furnace and an AC replacement, plus maintenance and fixes since I moved to the area a couple years ago. USUALLY they tend to be a little pricier, but provide reliable, professional, and quality service. However, in my latest interaction I was disappointed. I'm 6 months pregnant and the furnace died about 8 PM on a Friday, given my condition I was more worried than normal about going without heat. We'd recently had SAM out to fix what seemed like this same problem, so that was our first call. The person on the line didn't seem to pleased to be getting an after hours call. They offered us a Monday apt, but then I'd have had to go all weekend with no heat. We were told we'd pay a $60 upcharge if we insisted on having someone out that night. My husband and I figured fine, let's do it for some heat. The service tech arrived and in <20 min identified that the issue was a faulty gauge on the oil tank and an empty tank despite our automatic delivery agreement (not SAM's fault). So we felt a little dumb and had to go the whole night without heat anyway. A few days later, we receive a $265 single line item invoice. Sticker shock for me, thinking worst case scenario $150 hour + $60 upcharge x 20 min was only going to be like $84. I figured even if it wasn't communicated, we might get hit with a 1 hour minimum... still that would be closer to $200 bucks. I went back and forth with the office by email. I have to say even a little empathy would have soothed my ruffled feathers. But when I asked for help understanding the breakdown of my bill, I got a side-step response "I asked [your husband] if he wanted to wait, and he said to me, no, my wife would like someone to come tonight." A repeated attempt to understand how the charges were calculated got no response. A follow up request got sent to the office manager who just kept repeating that there's always been a flat hourly after hours rate, with a one hour min. Decent customer service in this situation would be a "sorry for the miscomm," or a gesture like "let's take $10 off your next service for the confusion," or even a basic "I can understand how that might have come as a surprise; we'll follow up and ensure we explain the flat rate and hourly minimum charges in the future." I am disappointed in how this was handled. I historically pay a little extra for SAM because I've received a higher caliber of customer service and this didn't feel the same. Service tech was still great mind you. My issue here is solely with the office staff handling calls, invoicing, and emails - not the work itself.

SAM Mechanical did a great job replacing my air conditioner, providing excellent service from start to finish. First, Steve assessed the job over the phone to give me a ballpark estimate, then came to my home to fully evaluate the job and provide a written proposal. His price was competitive with two others I had received (and another company wouldn't even touch my high velocity system). His technicians were prompt, courteous, neat, and efficient, taking extra care to protect my flooring surfaces. Office staff was also friendly and helpful. After the job, Steve followed up to make sure I was satisfied. Highly recommend!

It's truly a team effort at SAM Mechanical. My Heat Pump went, the next day it was 7 degrees, and we had to do something fast. The owner Steve came out because he heard of our urgency. The product is not a stock item. Everybody was saying 1-2 weeks to get a new one. He found a heat pump in Boston, drove down and picked it up on a handshake! When was the last time you experienced that? The tech Bill came the very next day (a day earlier than promised) The service tech was outstanding, explained everything he was doing and cleaned up. Not a scratch , dent or a mess left. It's like there were never there. I met the support staff in his office. They were kind and respectful. I can see why his business has grown and grown. If you are looking for great service with a reasonable price I would suggest you call SAM Mechanical. Thank you Steve, Bill, Paul and Holly for a great job well done!

I can not say enough about this company. My boiler had some serious issues that another company told me would be a 15k new system replacement or no heat in the middle of winter. Everyone at SAM is excellent to work with. They assured me they could get my system running for me in no time and for a reasonable cost. Outstanding workmanship and professionalism with these guys. They were prompt and caring. Definitely went above and beyond for our family in terms of fast scheduling and fixing our heating system. I have been recommending them to relatives, friends and neighbors and will only use them exclusively for the duration of my homeownership. Use them and you will be very happy you did. SAM Mechanical was great. Steve was patient to all my requests in advising and ordering the Thermo Pride furnace I wanted. Not such a small feat since it was a model that had been recently discontinued and not readily available to the public any longer. SAM’s prices were very fair and transparent. I know I got a good deal! The installation team, Brandon and Jay were very curtious, informative, quiet and neat. Ken, the start up technician helped me set up my new thermostat and everyone at the end assisted me in moving the old furnace out of my cellar and into my shed. You can’t go wrong with this company. Needed to replace my gas fired boiler in a relatively short period of time as the cold weather was fast approaching. Bottom line, I definitely made the right decision in choosing SAM Mechanical. Steve April was able to meet with me at my home quickly, and provide a detailed and competitive quote on the same day (actually within an hour). He explained how the project would go and he really seemed to care about my situation. Brenda was a pleasure to work with on the phone and in the office. Steve and Brent were friendly, professional, and they did a fantastic job removing my old unit and installing the new one. My 28 year old gas boiler was showing its end was near. SAM Mechanical responded like true professionals. Although being crazy busy due to the great Siberian freeze in full swing, Steve came through on his commitment to get to my home at 8:30pm to address our failing system. I know hired the right company , When Steve the owner of Sam Mechanical came out to my house on a Saturday morning to give me and my wife a quote for a new oil furnace. He answered all my questions and really seemed to care and did not rush . He spent some time going over what we needed. He gave me a fair quote before he left that morning and I had told him I was waiting for some more quotes and would make a decision by Monday. Saturday afternoon he called me to tell me that we should go with a low boy furnace instead of a high boy furnace do to the height. I told him thank you for calling. Sam's Mechanical was excellent and a life saver. Our broiler was at the end of its life. Sam Mechanical was the one estimate that we felt offered the best price, service and expertise. Steve the owner personally came out to provide a quote. He was through, polite , truthful and very knowledgeable. He understood what a big ticket item a new broiler was for any home and detailed his estimate clearly for us. Steve Had some issues with the AC due to an electrical power surge I called service and Amanda had a tech come down from N.H. same day diagnosed issue a blown power supply. Replacement unit had to be ordered and came in last Friday. Amanda scheduled a tech to install replacement PS today which was completed this AM. Unfortunately the AC ran continuously and a second tech was send upon completion of his assignment in Beverly. Issue was corrected by 6 pm. Three separate individuals were utilized all were professional, informative, positive attitude, service oriented, and assured you if there is a issue it will be taken care of. In addition I asked them how did they get trained, licenses received, how many years working in this field and for here present employer "SAM" Answer each realize they have a profession that is in need, pays well and they are happy working at "SAM" Dan

SAM Mechanical was recommended at the beginning of a Natural Gas Conversion at my home. Having some HVAC knowledge, I knew the basics of the existing system (original steam radiators with a newer oil-fired furnace) as well as the work needed to convert to a natural gas - forced hot water set-up. After placing a general inquiry, the owner called to arrange for a mutually convenient time to cover the work needed for the conversion. During the walk-through, everything was explained in a clear and concise manner. Being relatively young, and a first time home owner, it was refreshing to talk to a contractor who truly cared about establishing a trusting relationship. During the conversion, the office and field technicians were helpful in coordinating and scheduling the days they were on-site. I always felt ‘in the loop.’ In the end, I can’t say enough about the quality and demeanor of SAM Mechanical. They are an honest company that takes pride in their work. TL;DR - professional, honest, and hardworking.

This past July, we were looking to add some supplemental cooling in our sun room to make it more enjoyable during the hottest days of summer. While we were focused only on additional cooling, Steve April pointed out that some mini split units could also function to add supplemental heating to the sun room during the spring and fall. We accepted his recommendation and enjoyed the mini split AC during the many days over 90 degrees this past summer. But we may be enjoying the heating of the sun room this fall even more. It is extending our use of the room a month or more as we head toward winter. Prior to this mini split SAM Mechanical had installed a basement wall furnace and a whole house humidification system. We have been very satisfied with all the installations.

One Thursday night my baseboard heater pipe burst. Friday morning i called at least 5 different companies, one said they couldn't come until Tuesday. Then i called Sam mechanical, Steve called me back within a half hour and said he was also very busy but he would come right over and evaluate the situation and make sure i was ok until he could come back, that day & fix the problem. He was great! He came over & helped me & then he sent someone else back over within a hour. They did a great job at a very reasonable price. The next day he called back to make sure everything was ok. Great Job!!!!!

I have been working with SAM Mechanical for the past few years and they just run a great shop. All the mechanics I've had on various projects are top notch and great people. It's hard to find guys that work as hard at their business as these guys do.. I've worked with a lot of sub-contractors on some of the largest projects in Boston but SAM is the best I've worked with. Emergencies - not a problem. Proposals - boom they get-em out. Projects - they show up get it done and get out. Problems - they have solved some thorny ones for me in harsh customer conditions You can pay twice to another guy or once to SAM Mechanical. If I can run my business half-as-good as they do I'll be a happy camper. Thanks guys.

Long story here. If you are in a hurry, the five stars say it all. If you have the time, I needed a new boiler for my home. When spending any significant sum of money, I always make several calls. As I have an old home, it was a difficult install with wooden steps and a turn at the bottom. I tried to stay local. One area person wouldn't do it because of the weight of the unit and the rickety stairs. Another worked alone - it was too much for him. One never called me back, etc. It was getting frustrating. One day, I went across the street from where I work to pick up lunch, and in a moment of serendipity, there just happened to be a SAM truck parked there (they were working on a new hotel project). I am not sure why, but I jotted down the number and later called. SAM was well over an hour away, but the owner himself drove up to look things over. Cutting to the chase, SAM did the job. They propped the stairs, removed not one but two old boilers, and did the installation ALL IN ONE DAY (yes it was a long one, but they did it)! I cannot say enough about the professionalism and quality of work. I was no hotel or commercial job, but I felt like I was. Great, highly competent, and friendly people! If you are needing such work (small home job or large commercial job), I highly recommend SAM! UPDATE: Almost a year later, we ran into a problem. When I called, SAM always did the right thing in getting back in touch, diagnosing the problem, and fixing it (it was a tricky one). Again, I highly recommend the company and its people! Still *****!

I'm sorry about taking so long to respond about the great service from Sam Mechanical Services. About a year ago while on vacation in Thorton N.H. our taco valve went on the hot water heater. The local hardware store did not stock this valve & recommended looking for a plumbing supply house. I noticed the Sam Mechanical Service Van and thought I'd take a chance and ask for advise. I was pleasantly surprised when not only did I receive great advise the serviceman offered to help me out. Here I am away in another state and in the parking lot of a local hardware store getting great customer service! I was not familiar with steam boilers or cast iron radiators and when my daughter purchased her first home,at a loss to advise her or dare work on current system.The first 4 or 5 service techs that looked at it were useless and none seemed trustworthy...Steve took the better part of an afternoon educating me on what I should expect in a new boiler,reassured me the current radiators would provide comfortable heat and answered all my questions.Everyone I dealt with from SAM Mechanical was polite,knowledgeable and friendly.All work was professional and of high standard.No blowhards among them.Boiler is all Steve said it would be and I couldn’t have done any better than having anyone else do the job.I highly recommend SAM Mechanical.This is top notch outfit and you will be pleased with results.Also important to note that price was exactly as quoted and in some cases better than quotes from other companies that I had zero confidence in from our conversations.

This guy saved me probably 700-1200 dollars by simply telling me the truth. He steered me away from something that was unnecessary, something that I don't need. He could have fudged things, like several other people I talked to, and made money off of me, but he didn't. He told me the truth about what I DIDN'T need, and saved me a bundle. If you want an honest guy that will do what you need and not more, this is your man.
