I noticed on Sunday that the top of my water heater was getting rusty and found it to be strange so I googled it. Turns out it was not venting properly and letting the dangerous gasses in my house. I have always installed my own but wanted a professional this time due to the problem. I called Holt on a Monday afternoon and they came out Tuesday morning. I got a quote that I felt was very fair, with zero pressure, to do the job and I was scheduled for Wednesday morning. Installers showed up at 8:30 am, on time, and put down drop cloths from my front door all the way down to the water heater. Since the new installation required a power vent, a new pipe had to be ran across the room and out the wall. By 12:30 the new water heater was running and they cleaned up everything exceptionally. You would never know that they were ever there. The guys were very polite, knowledgeable, clean cut and did a perfect job with a lot of attention to detail. I am so glad I made the call. Most professional contractor I have used in 20 years.

Great first experience with Holt. I wanted a checkup on my heating system for a realistic price without any upsell. Holt delivered this and more. Derrick was professional and on-point, and came out earlier than expected on a Saturday. He provided a few helpful pointers as well. My constructive comment to Holt is that they improve their phone system. Every time I called in I was number one in line, but sometimes someone answered and sometimes someone didn't. Once someone answered I always received quality service, but it was a little confusing in the interim.

He was patient and answered all my questions. He gave me great suggestions that will improve my furnace and a/c performance. What a pleasant experience. To preface our review, I’d like to mention that my husband and I are enrolled in Holt’s monthly member subscription and it is the best money we will ever spend! A few days before Christmas, we found that not one, but two pipes had frozen. Our guest bathroom shower and toilet both out of commission just days before Christmas with guests in our house. Early on Christmas morning, one of our guests heard our garage opening and getting stuck. He came to check it out and found a massive flood in our garage. My husband and brother in law quickly turned the water off and we called holt around 7am. Adam arrived at our house, on Christmas morning, around 8:45am. He stayed with us until nearly 11:30am after working incredibly hard to identify where the burst pipes were and to replace them. In a situation like this, we could have been faced with two types of people. One who is extremely angry to be on call on Christmas morning. Thankfully, we received the other type. The type who is friendly, helpful, just an all-around nice guy who was willing to leave his family on Christmas morning to help my family out. Adam was absolutely the best person we could have had arrive at our house Christmas morning and as the mother of a three year old, I’m incredibly thankful. We had access to Holt’s on-call staff because of our monthly membership, a membership that we will renew year after year. Holt has always bailed us out of sticky situations and time after time, their on-call guys come over with the nicest attitude and are always so incredibly helpful. I cannot thank Holt but especially Adam, for the help and sanity they provided on Christmas morning. Our family will forever be grateful for the help you provided us.

We needed the main shut off valve at our meter replaced. I called Holt and they sent a man right over within an hour. He replace the defective shut off, which was located in a very awkward place, in a short time. This valve has been a problem for over 20 years and finally getting it fixed was very nice. He also cleaned up a bunch of old fittings on our water heater and made it much more reliable. I'd give them 10 stars if I could. Great Job Holt Plumbing.

Our AC wasn’t working. We called Holt at 8 AM and Ty was at our house with a fixed AC by 3 PM. Very professional and personable. He explained what caused our malfunction and we were up and running. After replacing the roofs one some office buildings we had some issues with the air conditioners on the roof. We called Holt and they came out quick. Looking for a no fluff, no BS review of Holt? I got you... Over the past 15 years I've been a home owner, We've tried more companies that I could count. Lots of shady businesses out there... We were coming of a brand new HVAC installation just two years ago and the previous company completely botched it. It had problems within a month of installation and they were completely MIA. We ran it as long as we could to try and recoup the some cost, but it was a constant worry. Decided to give Holt a chance and we're so glad we did! Yes, they were more expensive, but it's the classic "you get what you pay for". 100% worth it! It's so hard to find a company that has the perfect mix of quality, punctuality, and honesty and Holt nails it. I genuinely appreciate their level of service and will pay a bit more to have someone I have the utmost confidence in doing the right thing. You should definitely give them a look if you need heating, cooling, or plumbing work.

Nick came yesterday on an emergency call to fix my refrigerator water line so my new refrigerator could be delivered and connected. When they came to deliver the new refrigerator there was no connector for the new line. Holt got someone over within an hour and a half to fix the situation. They always do a great job snd are very professional and make sure things are done right! Dave installed 3 new toilets for us today and was very helpful in resolving some unexpected issues that arose. Everything was completed perfectly and in s good amount of time. Matt was also here to help him and they both did a great job and left with everything in good order! Zack came today to try to figure out what our hot water dispenser is not working. They did quality work, with all of the plumbing in traditional copper. That was important to me because I didn't want any of that PEX in my home! Despite usually booking the first appontment of the day with a lot of service companies, I usually get the 1 hour window spiel. I was pleasantly surprised when my Holt repair person arrived at 7:55am and got straight to work. Justin was a very polite young man who obviously knew what he was doing. He even played ball with my dog in the back yard and shot her a few rounds of water from our hose while he cleaned the AC unit. I left Holt a few years ago but they really seemed to have stepped up their game and continue to pleased with their service!

Our furnace went out on one of the coldest days ever! When I turned the t.v. on. I saw Holt's ad and decided to call them. I was so very glad I did. They came over as soon as they could . Matt was our technician and he was the greatest.....prompt, very courteous, and knew all about the "old fashioned" floor furnaces. He gave me an estimate of the cost, plus a $20 coupon for first-time customers. When he got under the house/crawlspace, he found another problem that needed to be fixed but didn't repair it until he told me the cost first. I told him to go ahead, that we needed a warm house. He was very thorough, respectful, and had another helper who was also the same. I would highly recommend this company. Customer service is the greatest. I am in the process of getting an estimate for a new furnace with duct work in the crawlspace and possibly central air!!! Holt will be the company to replace my furnace!

I was incredibly pleased with the customer service from Dave, Trent, and Emily. Emily kicked off the service with a “can-do” attitude and extreme professionalism. She was great to work with after hours in our emergency situation. While I had questions she had fair and respectful responses. Once Dave arrived, he quickly isolated the issue to our main shutoff supply. It’s not 10pm and he is irking away outside to cut the main water supply so he can repair the shutoff in the house and return water to our house. He arrived in a protective mask and shoe booties as safety of my family and himself was clearly a top priority, thank you Dave! Finally, Trent finished the job the following day (saving us money) for the less critical pumping items we needed done. This team is very professional and customer focused. Working with them you will see they aren’t interested in a one time service exchange. They are about supporting you, their customer, individually according to your needs. This is a company I plan to work with for years to come and highly recommend you giving them a try too!!

James took the time to really explain everything he was doing while working on our furnace. He also seemed to genuinely enjoy his job and we felt we could trust both of them and their recommendations. We are comfortable inviting Holt back into our home and feel confident they will always be courteous and do a great job! 3/10/2021: fair is fair and after my brutally honest review, the manager came to my house and checked everything. He was totally open and understanding of my complaints and wanted to fix it. I will get a refund, he didn't try to excuse the workers and was honest enough to acknowledge that what was done in my house was unacceptable. This is what I expect from a serious company and he didn't disappoint. I will definitely stay as a customer if I ever need help again. Unfinished, unfinished, unfinished... One star for Chuck M who went above and beyond to fix his colleagues' mess. 11k later, I had water in my basement and that was after the 1st time they had to come back to clean up their mess (old pipes, debris etc). So how do I know it's new or if they missed it the 1st time? They came and we were 2 days without water in kitchen and bathroom sink. Came back to fix that and supposedly unclog my pipes I had told them needed it. 1k later I had 2 holes in my wall and was told they don't unclog pipes... I had such a fit they paid for the unclogging company. Then Chuck M came and basically rebuilt the back of my cabinets. My "consultant" never bothered to call me after Chuck came. I am furious and am not about to let it go.

Israel came out on a Sunday afternoon to replace my kitchen faucet. Beware when they talk about their pricing and using their materials so you get a warranty on the work. They were going to charge me $112.00 EACH for on/off water handles that needed replacing under my sink. I saved myself $200 by driving 1 mile to Menards and purchasing my own for $18. Also they should subtract their $99 trip fee when you agree for them to do the work. That’s what Golden Rule Plumbing does. Probably won’t ever use HOLT again

Holt Plumbing & Heating is truly an amazing company! They tell you they're customer experience is the most important thing to them and it really is! We had issues with our furnace and had them come diagnose it, they gave us a discount on the fee for being a first time customer. They also recommended getting a consult from their comfort specialist, Ben, who is part of the owning family. It didn't feel like a normal sales pitch, it was a genuine meeting to give us our options and no pressure was put on us to do anything. We decided to have it fixed vs. replaced and they did it timely so that we didn't have to have a cold house. One note to make - if you have them replace your furnace/air - they cover literally everything in the cost so that you don't have to worry about a thing. Our furnace was not working a week later. They went out of their way to help us and made us feel that our situation was just as important as every other person's. I called that very morning and that same day had the same Tech come out and do a complete walk through of our furnace. We feel safe that our furnace is working now as he did a thorough check and cleaning of our, still working like a champ, 28 year old furnace! Their technicians are phenomenal! They are friendly, personable, knowledgeable, care about building a report with you/not just getting paid. This company comes highly recommended from my husband and I. * I haven’t yet made up my mind about which vendor we’ll use. Rob was very professional, courteous, patient, & pwell-informed: knew his stuff. Food for thought: One item where Rob seemed uncomfortable/hesitant was in response to one particular question: from which other HVAC companies he or Holt recommended I compare pricing. I definitely understand his hesitation (He said he had never heard that question before). From my standpoint it would be mutually beneficial for Holt to have this information at the ready in the event the customer asks for other bids from other reputable Central Iowa HVAC dealers/service providers: if the other shops’ bids come in much lower than Holt, I’d (from my standpoint at least) be wary of the lowball shop—hard to form trust in this instance. On the other hand, if the other bids come in higher than Holt’s, my (again just me here) inference would be that Holt is the better value: not only is the pricing most competitive, but I’d know that Holt is a top echelon HVAC provider and I’d be getting great service, expertise, and longevity.

Most recent update changing from 2 stars to 4 stars: I called and spoke with someone at their office about my experience. They were very friendly and understanding about my frustration and rectified the situation. Original review: paid $100 for them to come out and look at my tub faucet after explaining on the phone what was going on with it. All I got out of that $100 was for them to tell me that they don’t have parts to repair and only have a chrome replacement faucet when my fixtures are all bronze (of course the receipt they gave us said we “didn’t want to replace” not mentioning that they didn’t have the right color to replace it with). When asked if we could run to get a new faucet we were told he didn’t have time to wait for that. The only pros from this is that he came on the weekend so I didn’t miss work and he told us to try cleaning the tub faucet and that might work. I’m not hopeful since he looked at it for a whole two minutes. I’m now $100 less and no better off then before they came. we cleaned the faucet- it didn’t fix it. We replaced the faucet- didn’t fix it. So we had no resolution from them coming out to diagnose the problem because they didn’t diagnose it correctly...

Four REVIEWS Don, Jess, James, and Unknown name service man: Suffice it to say that we are very satisfied with the service we have received from Holt during our remodeling and addition project and subsequent service. We gladly recommend them Don: It was great to work with Don during construction of our addition. We appreciated that he kept us informed of the work that was being done, explained how the new system works, and how it should be serviced and maintained.. He was very considerate as he did the work. He gave us information about the annual service contract and suggested that we talk with Jess. On his last day on the job hemade sure that we were satisfied and that we knew how to operate the new zone. Jess: I met with Jess to go over the contract that Don had furnished and we were able to get a spring checkup scheduled and the semi annual (fall and spring) maintenance scheduled. She did a great job explaining the agreement and the service. This past Thursday I called Jess at 4:30 in the afternoon to report that our air conditioning was not working. She said that she would get someone right out. About two hours later James was here. We had grandsons from Boulder visiting for the week and it was great to have this kind of service. Jess followed up Friday morning with a call that Don would be coming at noon to replace the circuit board and that she would be following up with question about warranty. James. James found that the circuit board in the furnace was bad and would have to be replaced. He was not sure if he could work around the board to get the fan going overnight and soon reported that he had been able get the fan going. He explained the problem, the fix, gave an estimate, and explained that he would see if the warranty was still good. When he arrived Friday the first thing he told me was that the warranty would cover the part, James was very thoughtful and answered all my wife's questions in an understandable way. Service man who did the spring checkup. I am sorry I do not have his name. He was very helpful. We had a water faucet that was leaking and we asked if Holt could help. He said that he could do that and determined that we needed a new faucet at the kitchen sink, had the parts on the truck and took care of the problem while he was here. Checkup. He explained the checkup process which includes replacing the filter. Since we had just replaced the filter during construction he said that we did not need a replacement right away and suggested that we wait a month or so and see the filter needed to be replaced,

Listened to all my concerns and needs and worked with the other company to get things paid for. Ben Holt came to my home quickly and we discussed options for resolution. I originally called Holt this spring for a water leak in my mechanical room. They were one of the few plumbers willing to come out fast and take care of the issue and for that I applauded them. The plumber came out and while he did repair the leak, he almost caught my wall on fire in the process of sweating a pipe out. He told me what happened so I figured no harm no foul. What I didn't notice until about 10 days later was that when the smoke alarm went off he removed it from the mechanical room. Unfortunately he forgot to replace it and I didn't find it until many days later. That's a big safety and liability issue in my consideration. Fast forward to the July 4 weekend. Our outside air handler went out. I was on their service plan so they responded quickly which I appreciated. They determined our air handler motor was down and needed replacing. I didn't really have time to shop and it cost me. While they only charged $79 for the service charge, they charged $591 for 1075 rpm air handler motor. Once I had time to research I discovered these motors cost less than $180. So while they didn't overcharge on the service call for my being on their plan, I certainly feel they gouged me on the motor price. The day after, they came out to do an estimate on replacing our aging HVAC system. Unfortunately, the gentleman who came did not know a lot about zone systems (which he admitted) and I have since learned a lot more myself. I am not using this company for my replacement system or service any longer. Update: I can update to 3 stars at this time. General Mgr. Josh called me to discuss my issues. He definitely cares about the business and their reputation and has offered to attempt to rectify things. He advises that while their bill didn't break down the motor, labor was included in the $591 and the $79 was the service fee for diagnostics. While I still feel this is expensive, he assured me they are in line with typical charges in the area. If I have need again I will reconsider them and call Josh personally.

Over the years since my first call, I have purchased the following products from Holt Plumbing and Heating for my home: A Ruud furnace and air conditioner, including a cover for keeping leaves and debris from blowing into the unit, a water heater and a Clear Wave water conditioning system to inhibit lime build-up in the pipes. Tyler came out last week and fixed my tankless water heater. He was able to identify the issue within 15 minutes of looking at the internal components of the unit, something the original plumber who installed it couldn't locate in the 4 years I had him come out and repeatedly told me it was fixed. It has been wonderful being able to shower without losing hot water! Tyler was very professional and extremely patient answering all of my questions. Today Matthew came out and extended the water spigot/sillcock and did a great job! The plumber I mentioned above told me it could not be done and that the only thing to do to keep it from dripping was to tighten the screw on the handle. Matthew came out and resolved this issue for me by extending and installing a new sillcock. No more dripping and easier access for when I need to water my garden, flowers, and scrubs without wasting a third of the water from the drip at the source! Matthew was very professional and patiently answered all of my inquiries. I have been very happy and impressed with everyone I have dealt with at Holt Plumbing. They show up when they say they will. They come prepared with everything needed to complete the work. Everyone in the process has been very professional and conscientious of cleaning up the workspace; they even used shoe covers as to not walk on my carpet in their shoes. I am glad theres a team that I can count on in the future.

Part 1 - (Approx. Nov. 2019) I spoke to Kelly on Saturday afternoon and she arranged to have Ben come look at my furnace the next morning. Ben was very helpful and he was a wealth of information. Very good service and no extra charge for coming on a Sunday morning Part 2 - (05/15/2021) Garrett came to our home to do a routine A/C check. As soon as he followed me into the furnace room he smelled gas which I was not able to smell. After he found it, he had me put my nose close to the union in the gas pipe and sure enough, I could smell it. He replaced the union on the gas pipe and now its as good as new! Garrett REALLY saved us a lot of trouble by being alert to the smell of gas!!

Tyler Chumbley and his assistant-in-training were assigned to perform the regular furnace & AC maintenance at my residence. They arrived on time and, after putting on their industrial booties, went right to work. In 10 minutes or so, Tyler had found some burnt and brittle wiring in the emergency, back-up heating element in my relatively new Hydron Geo Thermal system. Unnoticed, this very well might have become a very serious problem resulting in a house fire. To say that I'm grateful he was sent to my house that day, had the wherewithal to perform a complete inspection and the attentiveness to notice these burnt wires, a potential severe problem in waiting, is a gross understatement. From the moment I called on Friday at noon, I heard they were swamped with appointments, but after couple of different communications, each brief and professional, we set an appt. for the next afternoon (a Saturday.) Fortunately on Fri. Eve we heard back that an earlier AM appointment came available. Tyler arrived at 815 am Sat. morn and he fixed the capacitor within 15-20 minutes.
