Michael, our repair technician, was friendly & helpful. We had a new floor placed in the bathroom. The company that put in the new floor was unable to put the toilet back in & said we should call a plumber. We had already gone most the day without using the restroom & my mother in law is 82. So we called a plumber. Called Golden Rule. They came out asap. Good service, a little pricey, but they got everything up & working. Thank you Golden Rule for getting us scheduled as quickly as you did. We appreciated it.

The phone technician did a good job on taking my information. This was the first time I’ve gone through this process so I was pleased. David was knowledgeable and transparent about my furnace issues. He made recommendations but admitted the ball was in my court. Tom, sales rep, showed up within 20 minutes to review my options. My new furnace will be installed within 24 hours! A very smooth process and I didn’t feel taken advantage of. Both David and Tom were professional and friendly!

This company used to be one of my favorites within their craft, but today not so much. When they were first starting out they took pride in giving you a good price with high quality products. I paid approximately $1600 for a Delta faucet assembly as well as having them install a new internal flush lever on three toilets plus a warranty plan. You would think my Delta sprayer would not leak, you would think the pressure on my toilet would do the job without stopping — you would think I got a fair comparable price—boy was I mistaken. I long for the old Golden Rule when it was the small ma and pa shop — where customers did not have to worry about all around quality and having them come back for a redo. Golden Rule has returned, and has replaced the defective part with a new Delta part that was rushed from the manufacturer. My primary concern is that after one pays $1600 for sink parts, toilet hardware and other items — the consumer should not have to be forceful in demanding a non defective part to be installed. This is a lesson learned for the buyer to beware!

We had a leaky kitchen faucet that needed to be replaced. We called Golden Rule and Jamie Schick responded with a visit (along with her partner) within 2 hours. They were very professional, friendly and courteous, taking particular care to don protective coverings on their shoes before walking into the house. Jamie clearly explained to us why the faucet we had already purchased would not work and recommended a product that would best fit the existing configuration. The new faucet was obtained from a downtown facility and she installed it in an hour or so. We are both impressed and very happy with the service provided by Jamie and her partner. They have represented Golden Rule with the utmost professionalism and customer courtesy. We recommend them highly.

Jordan Rosner (and another young man I assume was a trainee I regret that I've forgotten his name) came to my condo to diagnose the reason for my AC freezing, and no longer cooling the house. I have had Golden Rule out before, for the same issue. The part broke again because it was a secondary issue caused by a coolant leak. I was told by them before that a coolant leak was a possibility, and a potentially expensive fix. Therefore at the time we went for the cheaper fix. So, when the part failed again I knew to call them. I was so impressed with how easily they explained the problem in detail to me, showed me photo evidence of what they were talking about (I also received the photos in an email later). They even discovered mold in the AC unit that could be contributing to chronic coughing and allergies in our home, and they gave options on their services to get it cleaned out. I appreciated their honesty that they could not guarantee it wouldn’t come back, but still gave me all my options. They used a shopvac to clean out the moisture in several areas in and around the unit as well as the bottom around the AC unit by the drain. They recommended several "short term fixes" to make life without the AC more bearable as well as several options for fixing or replacing the AC. Although they could have sent someone else out for further diagnostics that same day, we had a conflicting prior engagement so we worked on the best day of the week to come back and had that appointment scheduled within minutes. I have a second person coming out next week for further details, and since we are continuing with their services thus far there has been no charge. Overall I was very impressed with the professionalism they exhibited, and their customer service. They were easy to talk with, and had a great sense of humor, and amazing patience esp. when my puppy would not stop whining in his crate and my 5 yr old kept coming out from cleaning his room. They were a joy to work with, the best service I've had in a long time. I attached a few of the photos I appreciated for reference.

Jamie & Andrew came out this morning to do a plumbing inspection of our entire house. They recommended we replace the water hoses on my Maytag which is 29 years old and had never been changed. I’m very happy for the recommendation because we asked them to do the work and they did it immediately. They also stopped a leak in a bathroom sink with replacing a gasket. They both were professional, friendly, and courteous. I’m so thankful for Golden Rule! Their employees are the best!

They responded right away with service. We had a leak due to faulty installation in our new home in master shower . That plumber would not answer calls. Golden Rule was very professional & quick to help us out. Roberto & Chris did a great job removing the old shower & installing the new one. They checked with us during installation too to make sure grab bars were installed where we wanted them. They had us check when finished also & went over all with us. They cleaned up all very well too. Great service!

My heat wasn’t working properly just a day before a cold blizzard warning. The receptionist was amazing and friendly. They sent someone out within a couple hours of my call. David came and had everything fixed within the hour so we could be ready to get snowed in! He explained what was wrong so I could understand. Golden Rule did an excellent and timely job replacing my old water heater. It broke (water leaking from the bottom) on a Thursday at 6pm. I requested service at 7pm and had someone calling back to schedule an appointment at 8:30am on Friday. Joyce, Roberto and Chris came, starting at 11am for an inspection, noticed that the main water pipes also needed to be replaced, and I had a brand new water heater and brand new main water pipes installed at 4pm on the same day. Great job, great service, highly professional and knowledgeable. Will recommend with my highest recommendations.

Had a great experience with Golden Rule! When our 34 year old furnace started acting up, I first called a competitor who said they wouldn't be able to get us in for a week. I then called Golden Rule, who sent a technician out first thing the next morning. David, the technician, looked at the furnace and thoroughly explained the issues he found, and helped us decide to replace the unit. Denny arrived within a half hour after that to discuss replacements with us. He explained our options and helped us set up financing. The new system was installed the very next day. The installation team (Nick, Cody, and one other whose name I didn't catch) were careful and efficient, and finished installing the new furnace and AC by early afternoon. They took time to show me their work, answer my questions, and showed me how to use the new WiFi thermostat. Everyone I interacted with from Golden Rule was friendly and helpful, from the first phone call. Definitely a customer for life!

Drew was able to come same day I called. A smoke detector was chirping and I couldn't get the battery out. My poor dog was very stressed, but Drew was able to replace it quickly. I also asked for estimate to replace them all and he explained their Golden Rule plan, which is amazing! We've used Golden Rule for all of our plumbing and heating needs since we moved into our current home. We have never had an issue, and they have always done a great job. Recently, we had issues due to another project needing to remove and reset our toilets- eventually needing to replace them because it was a crazy week, and some wouldn't come out. Mostly things I would normally do myself, but this time needed the help. They sent Henry out and he has worked with my wife and I as we have gone through the replacement and other issues. Very happy with everything. Henry is amazing, and as long as he is with Golden Rule and can come out for our plumbing needs, we'll be using Golden Rule!

They did a pressure relief valve repair on water heater and new drain tube. Actual repair time took about an hour. They did give leave us with some options to think about for the future since our water heater looked to have some heavy build up after 5 yrs of hard water in Grimes. We appreciate the quick option to get us up and running with simple fix and cheaper fix being so close to Christmas with other options to look at down the road.

My water pipes froze and broke in multiple places and I had to shut off my water. After getting a quote for $9,000 from a competitor, I was hysterical wondering if I would ever get water and how. Coming up with $9,000 was about as likely for me as winning the lottery since I live just above paycheck to paycheck. I called Golden Rule for another estimate out of desperation and am so glad I did. Not only did they get me an appointment the same day…but came out within two hours of my call. The service technician was extremely friendly, patient and for the same repair, the figure they gave me was less than half the other company was going to charge me! That was saving me almost $4,000!! The technician was so patient and helpful getting me financing for the repair. After the competitor’s quote, I was in tears and felt hopeless. What was no less than a nightmare for me was made into a doable situation. I can’t say how thankful I am for them and the wonderful company and technician that literally made it possible to not end up living without water for probably a very long time. You were my hero’s today!!

We had a mystery leak dripping into our dining room. Zac did a great job being clear on what he was doing, giving instructions on how long to let sealant dry, and how to best prevent mold. He was very careful and methodical to check off possible leak locations. Well worth the money!

Henry was very polite and professional. No high pressure sales tactics. He explained everything well and to our satisfaction. We just needed a shower drain unclogged today. Henry also looked at and provided us with some options for an occasionally slow older toilet (repair vs replace) and a better cover option for a sump pump (which Golden Rule installed for us about 5 years ago but could have done a better job in aesthetics of the install-we have some clear duct tape covering the plastic lid and piping as they didn’t deepen the pit in cement basement floor and pvc pipes stick up above floor level and they had to cut a hole in top of their normal lid that is atop sump pump well, then patch it with caulk and clear duct tape which has since worn down.) Sounds like they can’t (or wouldn’t fix the lid, without some more cost and suggested we try a radon company who may have a better lid?) that was my only compliant. Fair and upfront pricing for services.

I responded to a free furnace inspection ad with expectation that something would come up costing me something, also knowing the tech/rep has a duty to present what the company offers. The serviceman, Evan Carver, was everything under the heading of 'professional'. I have some understanding of mechanics/appliances and also business and sales. I ended up buying the Golden Rule protection plan because Evan is not only knowledgeable, but personable, polite and genuinely kind in presenting the benefits of their program and presenting it in a way that didn't imply pressure or guilt if no purchase was made after the free inspection offer. Needless to say......VERY IMPRESSED! Good workers are hard to find now days, let alone EXCELLANT workers. I SHOULD have tipped him :)

This was for a furnace inspection, which checked out okay. I do have issue with the pushiness of the technician trying sell services, he told us our furnace filter was dirty but it had been changed less then 24 hours prior inspection, so how could it be dirty? He said the fan was dusty, then why didn’t he clean it when he was inspecting it? We did have the entire duct system cleaned less than 2 years ago. When he was finished I was presented with a list of services at different prices that needed to be done, I told him that I didn’t want to make a decision without consulting with my husband who was at work, he asked if I could call my husband, I said no as he works for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, his comment was oh that’s how you got the first responders discount. I asked for a copy of the services needed but he said that he couldn’t leave it so I took a picture.

This was for a plumbing inspection, that we didn’t request, but was apparently part of our furnace inspection that was performed by different technician. Everything checked okay, but with that said, we were told that our toilets were sluggish when flushed, this could be remedied by replacing the toilets. Two of the three toilets are less than 2 years old, so I don’t understand what could wrong with the toilets. Another concern is our sump pump that was sealed around the top, the technician asked if he could break the seal to look at it, I told him no as we never have had any issues in our basement, but he broken the seal on his own accord and said there was dirt/mud at the bottom of the pump that they could clean out and that the pump needed to be replaced as it was kicking the breaker when turned on. He presented us was a couple different prices ranges for a pump $$$. After he left I found that the seal was indeed broken and pump was left unplugged. I will be getting a second opinion!!!

With so many hardships and disappointments this year, Golden Rule was a breath of fresh air [big shout out to Colton and his crew]. I had a horribly complex system that needed to be torn out and replaced (two furnaces and two outdoor AC systems in my house), with a rat's nest of duct work, vents, gas piping, etc. etc. They promised me a one day install, which I found hard to believe was possible, but they delivered on all counts. They tore out all of the old equipment and hauled it away, redirected all of the ducting (which had to be meshed together with new fabricated pieces to combine my previous two units into one), installed the new furnace and AC, capped off and re-ran gas lines, asked my opinion about how I wanted things done, made me aware of what they were doing the entire time, educated me on my new thermostat, and then cleaned up after themselves completely! All in the ONE DAY they promised! AND they were great on price. We need more companies like this!

Suddenly this past week, the thermostat would indicate the air was being kicked on, but the air wasn’t kicking on my any means…so we gave Golden Rule a call again, and they quickly got us scheduled (especially for a sudden call). Kyle showed up and was very professional, asking about what was going on, walking over to the thermostat with me and not only listening to what I was saying I’ve tried, but HEARING it and not then trying to tell me let’s try something that I’ve already done. I went downstairs with him, and he walked me through what the possibilities could be, and then he just sort of checked them off the list. Something else I liked, was he didn’t try to go for the most drastic repair first, he followed the steps, start simple and work big. He first confl used it may be the wiring harness having a bad connection to the electrical panel, but warned me if that didn’t work, to let them know and they’d be back to try and repair the panel AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE (which he stuck to, more on that later). There were two other guys who came to install the wiring harness, Danny and I forget the other fella’s name (both also did a great job and we’re great to work with)…that fixed the problem, but later on that evening, the same problem occurred. It was about 9:00 at night, so I couldn’t call Golden Rule, but immediately called them at 8:00 on the nose the next morning, customer service understood the potential annoyance of the situation completely, and Kyle was back here by about 10:00. He again, walked me through what was going on, took a look again at the wiring and said he was going to try and replace the whole board…after going to pick it up, he returned and quickly got that set up and the problem was solved. What I really appreciated was he continually kept me in the loop, remembered that he told me that since the wiring harness didn’t work, they’d replace the panel and we wouldn’t see an additional charge. Professional, considerate, and courteous…he was great I was fortunate to work with Kyle, but Kyle wasn’t the one who installed the new AC unit last year, or the one to install the wiring harness the other day…but they were all great as well, so I believe the amount of professional and good workers at Golden Rule FAR outnumber any bad apples (if there are any!). I just had the most interaction with Kyle, so leaving a review for him is what I am most qualified to do Thank you Kyle, and Golden Rule…we absolutely signed up for the yearly Golden Rule Membership (Gold Club I think it’s called?)!!

I found standing water in our basement on a Friday morning and tried another company first that wouldn't have been able to come out until the next week. Golden Rule was able to get Landon out to our house within a couple hours! Landon was knowledgable and was able to identify the reason for the standing water was a clogged floor drain. Monty came to try and install our new toilet. It doesn't fit, not his fault lol. He was able to change out some valves for the washing machine. It was a lot more difficult then it should have been. He never complained and he was very professional. Gave us some options on how to possibly get the toilet to fit. If that doesn't work we'll have to get a different toilet. Golden Rule is a little bit more expensive then some of the other companies, but they guarantee their work for a year when installing stuff provided by the customer. That's more then most other companies offer. We'll definitely be calling them back in a week or two to get the toilet installed lol. Friendly and helpful.

I have been disappointed in recent dealings with Golden Rule. I received an exorbitant bill for relatively simple replacement of two bathroom faucets. I felt I was being taken advantage of right after my husband died. I decided to continue to give them another chance, so renewed my annual membership which is supposed to result in discounts and some free service. I arranged the free HVAC check for today, and was told the visit would occur between 8-noon and I would receive a call thirty minutes before the visit. Around 8:30 AM I realized I had received a text and call around 7:15 when I was outside, not yet monitoring my phone because nobody told me the call might come that early. I was told the technician had been reassigned but another would be arranged as soon as possible, Now, near the end of the four-hour window, I have learned nobody will be coming at all since there were so many emergencies today. I realize that can happen, but then the company needs to find a way to have the four-hour window go by the wayside and give a more specific time estimate. This is a word to the wise to open the best possible communication with this vendor to try to avoid surprises. Or try somewhere else.

We'd been keeping our original HVAC system going for 25 years, but with the first hot week of 2022, I could see it was finally done. I called Golden Rule on Wednesday. Met with a representative on Thursday. Had a whole new system on Friday. That alone is impressive. We had two guys doing the main installation and 3 more who came in when we found some wiring was not up to par and we needed to run a new line. The installation crew were here for roughly 13 hours to get us up and cool. No one likes to work that long a day, and especially not on a Friday. These guys just kept chugging along. I recommend Golden Rule for anyone needing service and will contact again. I'm not easily impressed, but was in this case.

Royce Murphy came to our home and we told him what we needed done. Faucets replaced in the kitchen and two bathrooms, shower assembly replaced in one bathroom and a toilet replaced I'm a third bathroom. He then proceeded to have us pick out 3 different options for faucets and gave us estimates on all options. He did basically the same for the toilet. He spent considerable time answered all my questions absolutely no pressure. About an hour after he left he returned with all the parts necessary to complete the job. I truly appreciate the great work done for us by Golden Rule. Royce Murphy and another plumber came to our home to help my wife and myself. They had a friendly attitude and did a thorough job for us. They fixed a jam in our sink, which I could not find myself, by removing shards of a porcelain spoon in the insinkerator. Also, they fixed the leaking in our faucet by replacing the cartridge. Both of these were a big help for our family. Now we can use our sink again. I'm now updating this review for a second visit: Andre Graham came over to unclog our sink. He was very professional and described in great detail the problem as well as the fix. We actually have used Golden Rule for a third visit: Skylar Smith visited us and fixed a leaking sprinkler pipe that needed to be fixed. We needed it replaced because it was leaking a lot of water for a few days. Getting it repaired allowed us to use our sprinkler system to keep our lawn green. I thank Golden Rule for being high quality professionals. I hope to do business again with them in the future.

Have been a gold club member for several years. During our scheduled "check up" Desmend noticed an issue with amperage on blower motor. Asked if we had ducts cleaned recently (we had). Stated common issue is dust movement into housing (which the duct cleaning doesn't look at) during that process. Pulled the motor and cleaned the housing. Saved years of wear and tear on our system! He found the leak was caused by a burst pipe just inside from faucet on/off handle. This must have ocurred during cold winter weather. Anyway Paul replaced the burst pipe and soldered together with new faucet and everything works great now. Highly recommend Golden Rule for plumbing and HVAC issues. He was on time with helper Rhianna and they fixed the light even though there was Wasp Nest in the old light. He sprayed the wasps, nobody was stung and new light was installed. Belinda was fantastic! She produced no pressure estimates and went above and beyond to restore hot water to my house as soon as possible. I also had them look at my shower water pressure. They replaced a cartridge that would supposedly make the water hotter and increase water pressure. Neither happened so that was a waste of 600 plus dollars. Lastly they replaced all the old cast iron pipes. When I returned home I found a giant hole in the dry wall in the kitchen that they said they don't replace. I was upset because they never informed me that this would happen. They did try to correct it and had a drywall guy come out to patch the hole. However he made a mess that he didn't clean up and did not texture the wall. I will probably look elsewhere for any future needs.

Belinda was great! She was faced with a very unusual problem— we had heat, gas, and water, but no hot water. Turn on the hot tap and nothing came out. It wasn’t frozen pipes— so, it was a puzzle. Belinda figured out that the blizzard wind blew snow into our exterior vent and packed it deep. She fixed it quickly and advised others working on frozen pipes today. We really appreciate that she came out in a blizzard to help us. We are glad we have the Golden Contract on a day like today.

Julian arrived as anticipated, friendly, and professional. He initially checked the furnace to assure it was properly functioning. He inspected the electrostatic furnace filter. It did not need to be changed at this time as it had been replaced 3 weeks earlier. He checked the humidifier to assure it was working properly as well as it's filter. When completed, he assured me everything was properly functioning and nothing further needed to be done. He ordered additional electrostatic furnace filters as I had used the last replacement filter. Previously, the filter order was delivered to Golden Rule and they than delivered them to the customer. Julian contacted the company to assure they could now be delivered directly to the customer. I was super satisfied with the work completed he showed me where the leak was on my shower head and explain to me the different options that I had to repair it. I really enjoyed working with them because I didn't feel like I was being sold something or up-charged for dumb things that I didn't need. I had them cut a hole in my drywall behind the shower to give me pipe access if I ever needed it again. He did a great job making sure not to leave a mess and talked to me about options for creating a door there in the future. I do wish that since they work on plumbing they had someone to repair tile or drywall if needed, but I understood the limitations before they came out and I'm happy with the service I got. They are very affordable and super friendly. Definitely recommend them for plumbing needs.
