I've only had 5 experiences with therapy in 4 different places, 2 experiences with the National Rehab Hospital were outstanding. The therapists are very knowledgeable and give you one to one therapy, they don't leave you doing reps and not come back promptly. I definitely and highly recommend and have recommended to one individual that did go to the National Rehab Hospital and was satisfied. I'm sure there are many other places to get therapy but National Rehab Hospital is right up there with the best if not the best.

The occupational therapists helping me learn how to drive with hand controls are patient and very knowledgeable. They are supportive in this effort that requires a lot of new learning and correction of habits. They have been helpful with learning how to parallel park with a smaller car with mirrors and a backup camera - a difficult task for me.

I had two very cordial, professional therapist. Briana made a great assessment addressing my balance concerns. She set 4 goals for me. I achieved 3 goals 100% and the 4th goal 80%. Her assistant, Edith gave me a good suggestion to join a Senior Wellness Center to continue what was accomplished during physical therapy. The check-in process was professional and with excellent customer service. Appointments were timely. The facility was well maintained. The sanitizing of the equipment being used was done after the use of each individual. I would highly recommend MedStar National Rehabilitation to others.

The experience was fantastic! I was in a high intensity program. Based on my health diagnosis and what I was doing when I arrived at NRH, I didn't think the amount of days that they had allowed me would be sufficient. But, the team worked really hard and I went from not walking at all and not having feeling in my left side to walking on my own and climbing stairs. I am impressed and forever grateful.

I think it was a productive and informative session that went beyond addressing my speech problems to include issues of anxiety, memory, and nutrition. The doctors and physical therapists here are knowledgeable and passionate. I'd recommend them to anyone. The nursing and scheduling process can be a bit confusing. At a recent visit, I was told someone would give me an appointment, and I waited half an hour. I submitted a complaint, and the nurse coordinator promptly called me to apologize and get more information. So I appreciated that.

I transferred my mom here for acute rehabilitation after her initial treatment at Suburban Hospital following her car accident. NRH is indeed the top rehabilitation hospital in the Washington area and an excellent hospital in the country. The therapists here are professional, positive, encouraging and engaging. The nurses, medical technicians, and staff here are caring, compassionate, and ready to assist. The NRH also has great equipment and tools to assist patients with all kinds of injuries to regain mobility and daily life activities. After a seven-weeks stay, my mom made tremendous progress from barely able to sit up on the edge of the bed to able to walk a lap around hall with only some assistance. If you are seeking the best rehabilitation treatment in the DC area, NRH is definitely the best hospital to go.

I’ve been going to MedStar NRH for almost a year now. I suffered from a series of 4 strokes within 3 weeks and then went into emergency brain surgery. I had a less than 20% chance of survival. After my surgery, I could only move my left eye. Intense in-patient therapy got me into a wheelchair and extended quad cane, then I transferred to NRH outpatient with an extended quad cane. My support team at NRH consisted of OT and PT. For OT I had Tim, Melissa, and Ann. For PT I had Bonnie and Diane. For scheduling, I had Claudia and Marchelle. It is important to note that NRH gives you a full team of support. They truly work well with each other to make sure that you have what you need, even if you don’t really want it. More on that later. The team is so fluid and supportive they lift you up much farther than you thought you could ever reach. My favorite is when I say “I can’t” and they say “I think you can, just try” and then I do it. Then I say, “Wow, I didn’t think I could.” Now I am walking unassisted. I still have a ways to go, but I know I have the best support team to help me reach my goals. In the background, they are constantly communicating to find the best treatment possible. They exchange knowledge and experience to help each other grow and provide pristine patient care. Whatever challenges you may face, whether it be past, present, or future, NRH is on your side. They focus on you, to make sure you recover the right way so you might prevent any future complications. Overall, these extraordinary individuals greet you with smiles and comfort from the check-in desk all the way through to your session. They help you set immediate, short-term, and long-term goals. Walking you through the whole journey of recovery. You never feel alone while recovering here.

I am pleased to say the care I received at MedStar NRH was far beyond my expectations. I questioned in the beginning, what kind of therapy can they do for me. Long story short, I could not raise my left arm above my shoulder and 3 weeks later I'm able to raise it above my head. The team of physical therapists that I am working with at NRH@MWHC is a dynamic duo. I was not sure how they would be able to help me recover from breast cancer treatment: chemo, surgery and radiation, but they have provided me with an exercise routine that, when followed gives me the relief from pain I need and increases my range of motion. I appreciate the treatment I received on Tuesday August 7th from my therapist please look to see who she was because I would love to have her for my appointments whenever possible. That day was my Mother’s birthday who passed away in 2014, I was not feeling my best she didn’t know the reason but she I didn’t feel like being there but I pushed my way to go. She put me on the heating pad then messaged my legs with the message machine then by hand I really appreciated that it relaxed my mind and my legs felt great when I left, my bus was arriving as I got outside I was able to slow run to catch it I haven’t been able to do that in a long time. I have been experiencing multiple back problems for years (shoulder, mid-back and lower back) seeking for medical help for a long time until I came to Medstar where i met Maya D Drummond and her Team. I have been to the center for one week now and I am already seeing results. After listening to my story, they evaluated my problem carefully and taylored exercisers that pinpointed the problems. Apart from knowing what they do porfessionally, they listened to my story with care and understood my problem better than anybody. They then picked the right exercise that would address the problem. They are so attentive that even when you think they are away, you notice through the mirror that they are still watching yours movements and see how you progress. I had only three visits sofar and have already noticed improvement in my movement and believe that i will be completely relieved from my long pain after the completion of the ten sessions. Based in my short experience, i dont hesitate to recommend Maya D Drummond and her Team to anyone suffering from back problems, whether it is shoulder, mid- or lower back.

Medstar NRH has top notch OT (Sonia), PT (Lauren), Speech (Katie) therapists. If your loved one ever needs acute inpatient rehab this is the place to go. The positive attitude of the therapists and case manager put us at ease from the beginning. These are people who are passionate about their work! One small thing that would go a long way: Please add a dedicated person during shifts to help patients who need extra assistance stay connected to the hospital wi-fi via their ipads and iphones while visitors are not allowed.

I had a beautiful experience with the MedStar Health Physical Therapy Unit at the Neurorehabilitation Center. The moment I walked in I was greeted by some wonderful people/customer oriented young ladies at the front desk who made me feel welcome and comfortable, and at ease. While I took my seat to wait for my Doctor, I noticed that everyone who walked in the door was treated well. Because of the type of therapy that I was to receive, I was nervous and thought I would feel self conscious; but that didn't happen. I met Dr. Alicia Keefe, I immediately felt at ease with her. She was very calm, very nice. She explained everything that she was going to do, made me feel comfortable and was caring in her treatment of me. She also explained the exercises that I need to do at home to help myself as well. So my experience at the Center was the best thing that happened to me. I had severe pain due to ulnar entrapment and with her knowledge and some tools and techniques she had up her sleeve - she was able to greatly reduce and mostly eliminate that pain. She also gave me the tools I needed to work on this on my own - and didn't insist I keep coming back just for the sake of milking the insurance (I've had OT/PT places that have tried that before). Her follow up is great. She has a fantastic attitude and I'd recommend her to anyone. I can't thank you enough. I was at the MedStar physical therapy located at Neurorehabilitation center on 102 Irving Street NW in February,2021. I was sent there by my Neurologist to have physical therapy for my lower back pain and numbness in my feet. I had the therapy for 6 weeks. I was happy with the service and the outcome of the therapy. Throughout my days of therapy there all the staff members at the entrance to check Covid-19 symptoms, the security desk, at the reception/check-in desk were all friendly, polite and helpful. She, subsequently recommended that I get Facial Therapy at the NRH. I was evaluated on April 29 by Ms Yvonne Francis and afterwards I worked with her on six occasions. My last visit was on Thursday May 27th. Her work was excellent. She is diligent, compassionate and knowledgeable: these three skills are not easy to come by. My face has improved tremendously. She was able to see that the back pain was cause by other muscle weaknesses/imbalances. About 2 weeks in PT. She also takes copious notes and systematically tracks your progress. Yvonne Francis is my wonderful lymphedema therapist at The Washington Hospital Center. My favorite part is the inflatable thing that has a program that gently massages the arm and chest wall, in my case. Therapy also involves massage to break up scar tissue and an ever harder with more repetitions, series of exercises. Now that I've joined a cancer survivor Facebook group, I realize how special Ms. Francis is and how grateful I am to have been presribed lymphedema therapy. So many other cancer surviving patients are not. I now often comment, when those other survivors comment on symptoms and side effects, that they need to get their oncologist to prescribe a lymphedema specialist. Some group members don't even know that they are describing the symptoms of scar tissue that can be broken up or that swelling could be lymphedema. Thank you.

She takes a very holistic approach to treatment, which I greatly appreciated. On each occasion that I worked with her, I had noticable improvements at the end of our session sets.
