Reviews of St. Albans Community Living Center
St Albans is part of the VA New York harbor healthcare system it's more of a clinic than a full service. There is a state veterans home on the grounds there is also one or two floors where there are hospital services. From what I've heard they'll be upgrading Shane opens by moving the clinic portions to a new area. Don't know when. I've been using St Albans VA facilities for a number of years now have fun and convenient doctor's a friendly and the staff is friendly. But the VA upgrading facilities we're likely to find an increase in care. That's good news all around.
This place has many ups and downs, a lot of the people act as if they don't wish to be here.
But it is local and better then a lot of the others.
I have no complaints about the place itself. The issue is, the two buses it takes to get there.
When the weather is nice, I walk there quicker then the bus commute when waiting between transfers are taken into account.
I love this place. The staff are very friendly set of people. They love talking care of the veterans. I love their hospitality and their hospice unit
I was lost, thank goodness that I met a wonderful woman who works there who helped me find out where I needed to go. I remember she told me her name was Ms. Duncan. She was moving her car & she seen me completely lost. She took time out of her day to make sure I found out where my loved one was. Thank you Ms. Duncan for helping me when everyone else walked past me, except you.
This place could use a better menu in cafeteria and better waiting room for the patients visitors.
Tried to call some how got transferred to Brooklyn campus but other than that when I got here straight to the point down to business. Went for administrative papers work.
I work here so it’s a everyday thing for me here. Clean and orderly
I had
in general, EXCELLENT service by the staff.
My brother SERVICED in the Army and he is a patient at the community center. He is happy 😊 and well taking care off. God bless you all and Thanks! 😷 …
The people at the Saint Albans are really trying to go out of their way to care you when visiting I was very please to see the effort. Thank you all.
The NYS Veteran's home is the cleanest and most efficiently run nursing home I have ever seen - and, believe me, I've been in dozens. There is NO smell of either urine or cleansers, the residents I've seen are happy and the staff is cheerful and hard working. I cannot believe my good fortune at having found this place for my 96 year old father.
I only went here to get my covid vaccine shot, the staff was nice and were ready to answer questions. Not sure if I'll be going back there anytime soon but while time here was short it was still a good experience all in all..
A very nice VA facility (Saint Albans) with a great rehab supervisor name Susan. The adjacent state facility is not as nice.
Caring staff, who take extra care with senile cognitively damaged and incontinent patients. They will change diapers as many times a day as necessary. Understaffed, unfortunately. They have a small px in the building to purchase necessities, and a barber that goes around. Plus a cafeteria, if you don't like their meals. Several computers available for patients. Eye clinic in the building. You need to deposit money in an account to use these services.
Meals plain but adequate. They give you a menu. Excellent dental care with brand new equipment. Mail often delayed.
Nice large screen TV in every room, with many channels. Bring your own electric razor. They serve snacks at bedtime, if requested. Nice caring nursing staff on 5th floor, especially George, Regina, Love, Tiffany, and others. Excellent social worker(s). They respond quickly to complaints. Good parking. Long Island RR station in walking distance, but not all trains stop there. Best way to get there from manhatten.
If you need transport to manhatten hospital ( an hour trip) the VA contracts with a private ambulance service from hell. Uncaring abusive EMT's, thirty year old ambulances without shock obsorbers.
Some people have a calling. THEY shine brightly.Others earn a pay check & do as little as possible This place is under staffed. The clothes dryer in one unit has been out of service for over 5 months. So much for "Laundry Week". The food is awful. They need better funding. Maybe next election.
Awesome staff. My father, Mitchell Hardy passed away on January 7, 2016 at the Palliative Care section of the Department of Veterans Affairs in St. Albans Queens, NY. I really appreciate the care and commitment of the staff to honor the vets and help the families as they go through the process of letting their love ones make their final journal to their resting place. Thank you Staff of St. Albans. I especially want to thank Winsome Dyer, Arlene Blackett and Chaplain Edward Conway for making yourself always available to answer questions in a caring and loving way. This was not an easy experience, but helping to prepare our family was extremely helpful and very much appreciated. Just so grateful, my dad, Mitchell Hardy was able to transition from this world into an earthly kingdom with dignity and love.
I enjoy shopping at Trader Joe's because of the wide variety of organic products and snacks. The fruits, vegetables and flowers are very fresh and the prices are reasonable.
My daddy just passed away and he considered this his home and all that took care of him and loved him we're his family and will always be a part of our family..He had the best care and was the happiest here @St.Albans .God Bless all that have been a part of my Daddy life for the past 4 years. Not to mention Dad had left from here to the Navy in The 40's....and returned here when he was injured. So it's really his home for the past 70 years😊
