Reviews of The Mother Baby Center at Abbott Northwestern – Minneapolis

Our first born (in 2019) and now second born was delivered here (August 2022). Received our birth certificate, and his name and all the info was correct (for both children), so not sure what happened with the other birth certificates in the reviews mentioned below. The delivery rooms and the hospital rooms are spacious, modern, and clutter free. Everything is organized pretty well. It felt homey, even in a hospital. We appreciated the care and work of our delivery nurse, Megan M; and our overnight nurse who took care of us after delivery, Marina. You both are so appreciated. The manager of the nurses checked in on us the next day and asked for feedback also. Soap dispenser box was a little broken (wasn’t even a big issue) and she got someone to replace it right away. The only frustrating thing was being discharged later in the evening. We had a late delivery during the day Sunday (around 4pm). This meant we had to leave after 4pm on Monday (required to stay for 24 hours). That Monday our new day nurse was busy or distracted or disinterested (unsure). By the time the 24 hours came by, she still had so much to complete for us. We didn’t get home until after 8:30pm or so, (yet another new nurse had to discharge us). Mama was super tired and we wish baby would have had more time to adjust to home during the day. Nevertheless, the facilities are great, and it was still a great experience with nurses Megan M and Marina, and we wouldn’t change our decision in coming to Abbott. 💗

I had to go into emergency C-section 8 months ago when I delivered my first born. The incision area is so small and you can hardly see it. I recovered beautifully. They took care of me very well. All the staff were very attentive and accommodating. Highly recommend!

My husband Cory & I found out that our twins went into twin to twin transfusion & that we would need to get the laser ablation right away. So we left Iowa and drove 5 hours to get here. That night they had us in immediately for the doctor to look at us and access the situation.
The next day they got us in for our surgery. They have been taking such good care of us & really make us feel at home. They take their time to care for you & meet your needs.
They have exceeded our expectations, if anyone needs a good caring place for twins or delivery. I would recommend this place 100%.
There’s no doubt in my mind that they will take care of you. I appreciate the time they took and what an amazing facility it is & the absolute most amazing workers! Thank you!

We had our our son here last week. Overall the experience here was great! Due to timing our original doctor wasn't able to deliver, but I will say overall there is a great team of caring nurses and doctors that took good care of my wife and delivered my son. There were only one or two nurses we really didn't like due to their harsh bedside manner, but given the number of nurses we interacted with over those 5 days I feel they were a minority.
Our induction didn't go as planned, but looking back we are confident they did everything they could to try for a natural birth first before telling us we had to have a cesarean. I feel they always provided us options instead of trying to dictate or influence our choices which was great.
I think our only gripe was that two particular nurses bruised up my wife's arm trying to get the IV in. They tried three times and couldn't get it in different spots, and the second nurse was actually joking about it while she was bruising my wife's arm. I don't consider this a major issue against the hospital though... I'd only ask that they review this process with their nurses to ensure they're more careful.

I was admitted to mother baby on November 13th, 2020 because my water had broken at 30 weeks pregnant. I was admitted to the antepartum unit, and remained there until I had my baby at 32 weeks and 4 days. My sweet baby was sent to the special care nursery where he spent 33 days learning how to eat and gain weight. My whole experience there was wonderful, both my nurses and my sons nurses. They really treated us with respect and were so kind about any questions or concerns we had. If you are going to have a baby, have it here! They will take care of not only you but your baby too! Wonderful hospital and if I ever decide to have another baby it will be here ❤

I just had a laser placenta surgery here. The staff was wonderful and so kind. Some stand out people were:
Paula- Ultrasound tech- she was so friendly and bubbly she had a way of easing my anxieties and was such a warm, caring person
Alicia- RN- She had a great mix of humor and was a kind person- I really loved her taking care of me and she was just the best.
Dr. Snowise- He was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to answer my questions. I also appreciated his appropriate humor- it was nice to have something to smile about during the surgery.
I am so impressed with this facility and the people who worked here. Obviously this surgery wasn't in my pregnancy plan but I feel like I got the best care and would recommend this facility to anyone. :)

Tremendously patient, caring and passionate nurses. These people work so hard and I know they must deal with a lot of difficult patients. All the staff that worked with my husband and I were so caring and spent so much time educating us, making us feel good and getting genuinely excited about our new baby! I would highly, highly recommend this hospital. Skill level is exceptional. I had an emergency C-section and everything was explained well and no time was wasted getting me into surgery. I feel people can be harsh critics of hospitals. These are not hotels. Their job is to get you discharged safely and provide education. Abbott/Mother Baby Center achieve this greatly.

Our experience at the Mother Baby Center was outstanding! We came in at 40 weeks and 1 Day to have our Baby. We expected we would be having our Baby via water birth, but during intake, we were informed that baby was breached, rather than head down. Things then moved very quickly, but we were consistently informed of everything that would be happening moving forward. We had our Baby less than two hours after arriving at the hospital, and he is perfect! The doctors, nurses and staff have been superb, and I'm so glad we chose the Mother Baby Center!

We just got home from having our son. I couldn't praise this facility enough! The rooms are big and have everything you need to make the birth a smooth process. The staff were exceptional. Every nurse was amazing and more than willing to help us with anything we needed. We had the same day nurse back to back days. Her name is Emily and she was fantastic. You can tell she really loves her job and that honestly goes a long way. I have heard from people that sometimes the dad gets pushed to the side because the main focus is the baby and the mom. While that is true everyone there made sure I was comfortable and was included in everything going on. I will recommend this place to everyone I know.

The facilities are beautiful and comfortable, there is a decent selection of food, and the labor & delivery nurses are super sweet and helpful. The recovery-room nurses are much less warm and fuzzy, and the constant opinions about breastfeeding are exhausting and often unwelcome. That's something Abbott should work on. Overall, though, I felt we were in excellent care, listened to all the time, and comfortable during our stay.
A word of caution to those for whom the c-section rate is alarming: you must remember that the adjoining Children's Hospital is a level-one trauma facility, so very high-risk pregnancies and births can happen at the Mother Baby Center with immediate access to the highest level of care for the newborn babies. We worked with midwives at the Mother Baby Center and always felt 100% listened to, with our birth plan and wishes heard by the nurses and midwives with no pressure to steer away from our natural-birth goals.

Excellent experience! Nurses were very nice and helpful. My nurse stayed with me in the room the entire time, and offered pillows and sheets to both my mother and husband and was concerned about their comfort as well as mine. They gave me extra postpartum supplies and I even got my breast pump there. The food was good (especially the veggie pizza) and food was unlimited from open to close.
Rooms are huge compared to other hospitals. I had my mother, husband, sister, mother in law, sister in law, brother in law, a friend, 4 kids, myself, newborn, and a huge stroller and my labor and delivery bag and everyone had a place to sit with out feeling crowded! Total of 13 people not including the nurses that were in and out to push on my tummy and help me breast feed, I was suprised! I've visited friends in hospitals and the room was the size of a closet and had to leave once the nurses needed to come in. Nurses were not annoying like coming in every 5 min or rushing me to leave early. When I was sleeping I was not bothered and if they needed to check on baby they would come in quietly and leave the lights off to not disturb me or baby. Half the time I didnt know they came in. My husband would tell me whether if they came in or not for whatever reason.
The nurses did a great job with my delivery, my midwife came rushing in as baby was crowning; my nurse basically could have delivered me but she told me to wait until my midwife came. Overall excellent experience and I can't wait to deliver my daughter there!

At 29 weeks I came in for preterm contractions. They kept me for 3 days and stopped the contractions. I have been back now at 33 weeks for high blood pressure for 24 hour observation and lab. The nurses are so kind and caring and the doctors have been watching carefully each time. I can't wait to come back to actually have my baby. This hospital has provided the best care for me. Would recommend to anybody

What an amazing experience! You have 1 nurse assigned to your care and they see you through the labor and delivery. The staff are just wonderful. I almost wanted to have another baby just to come back here! My labor experience took about 30 hours from the time I got checked in until I met my baby. The first nurse I had really made that personal connecton with me, her name was Lindsey. She even came back minutes after I delivered when she wasn't even scheduled just to see me and my baby. She helped me to get a good latch going and distracted me from all the crummy stuff going on from the waist down. A few days after we got home, I had a handwritten note from her! What an incredible experience from start to finish!

I love the all the staff there. Especially the doctors they have. I have been through miscarriages and with there help and compassion my life was changed dramatically. My delivery of my daughter was a great non rush experience with staff checking up on us. When i needed to rest after a long delivery they offer to take her to the nursery while i catch up on sleep. Very caring and i can't wait to have my son there within another few weeks.

Wife and baby have been really well taken care of. I do have a critique though, and this is why I am only giving 4 stars. Since there are justified COVID policies where only one guest is allowed, they desperately need to upgrade their WiFi. Plenty of grandparents who wanted to meet their new grandbabies at the hospital are not able to, and the internet is not fast enough to really have reliable zoom calls.
I'm only docking 1 star because that's secondary to the care. However in the times of COVID, things like this matter.

I went to the Mother Assessment Center at 38 weeks to confirm that my contractions were those of false labor. The front desk staff was rude, not at all welcoming. It honestly had me reconsidering my hospital choice. The nurse that assisted me came off as biased, she made a comment that I "looked young to be having my 3rd child", not sure the relevancy of that, but I would recommend that nurses/doctors be trained NOT to make those type of comments toward patients. Overall, the nurse was very helpful, I don't remember her name, unfortunately.

I had my daughter here on 1/5/20 ). The nurse laurie in the labor and delivery department was the most amazing nurse I have ever had in my life. Not only did she know her stuff and walk me through everything. She stayed after her shift was over to help deliver her and see her before she went home. I couldn't ask for a more amazing person to have during labor and delivery. That lady needs a raise

I couldn't have had a better experience. Considering my water broke 10 weeks early and I being a first time mom my experience was 10 stars. The nurses cared about me and my wellbeing. All staff extremely knowledgable. My baby came after 10 days in hospital bed rest. She was 3 pounds 7 ounces and having children's and mother baby connected gave me great confidants my baby would be well cared for. The two hospitals working together to assured me that I was in the best hospital for my situation. I highly recommend everyone choosing mother baby (Minneapolis) campus

We considered multiple places to have our first baby and ultimately landed on The Mother Baby Center. The experience could not have gone better - the rooms were private and comfortable, the nursing team was incredible and the delivery was handled perfectly. If we have another child, it will undoubtably be here.

Wasn't our plan to have a hospital birth but ended up at United and had a great experience. The staff were respectful and supportive of our wishes as well as responsive and knowledgeable when crisis arose. The facility was clean and new. Overall a great experience!

We have been here since last Thursday (10/15/2015), the nurses and doctors have gone above beyond what I expected treating my wife and twin babies. If you have complications with your birth, I would recommend Children's and The Mother Baby Center for your care.

Im really surprised to see all of these poor reviews.. my twin boys were just born there and i could not be happier with how well trained and hands on they were. This is my first time being a new dad and they taught me so many things in just a few days. I will be forever grateful to every one there that treated us so well, like we were their own family
