My daughter is afflicted with a rare genetic disease. She was initially treated at Harbor UCLA but her condition was not addressed properly, specially as she was getting ready to be discharged. I decided to reach out to Dr. Santoro and he took over the care of my child. My daughter has made significant progress and it’s back to being a regular teenager. The customer service and level of care for my child is excellent. The level of attention received is amazing. Dealing with a really Ill child is a parents worst nightmare. But knowing they are getting the proper care and it’s not about the doctor’s making money, it’s a great relief. I have seen my kid’s progress and I truly believe they are miracle workers at this place. The only downside is that we live in Long Beach and the drive can be a pain because the traffic to downtown can be heavy. But that’s a small price to pay for my kid’s health.

All the nurses and care partners and doctors were amazing. My baby felt so comfortable as well as myself and my husband who slept great on the pull out couch. We were welcomed quickly. Nurses in and out but do not bug when you’re asleep. Food options for my son were great and they got us out of there fast. Thank you CHLA

Took my child to 'Childrens Hospital Los Angeles' E.R. after previously taking her to 3 different ER's with no answer. ER can take hours, so bring snacks. I explained her situation & the doctor didn't turn her away. They gave her a room, they did more tests, they gave me an answer & she got better. They give your child free meals(parents $5 per meal, cafeteria about $9 per meal). About parking. If your staying longer than 1 day i recommend someone drop you off instead, cause they charge everyday for parking. It ain't cheap.

The waiting is a way too long all the time and the parking is all the time full and expensive … The doctor is great tho but last time we went it was 85 degrees outside and it was super cold inside, they’re insane with the A/C specially in the rooms where you have to undress your poor baby and waiting there for ever. Some of the best surgeons in the world! My Newborn grandson has to have 3 open heart surgeries Is to repair his underdeveloped heart. He was born across the street at Kaiser and then transferred to children's hospital last night for The procedure this morning. They have a Life Flight Helicopter landing pad on top!

3 star rating. Reason being is, when there was a shift change of security guards around 9, once the new security took his post not long after he came up to my wife and another lady that was there with her child if they were together, and said he was asking because only one person with a child can be in the waiting room, and the reason that this was very upsetting was because he only went up to Latinos and afro Americans and not the Caucasian nor the Asian couples, my wife and myself felt targeted and discriminated against, Specially because he was Asian himself. He even took his name tag off once we started to ask for his name and his supervisor name, he walked away we we kept asking for his name. For this day and age that we’re living in, is very sad and upsetting to feel targeted and discriminated in a place where we take our children when they’re feeling sick. This happen on Wednesday July 6 of 2022 in the change of shift at night. The doctor and nurses a great at there job but the security needs to fire that security guard for lack of Empathy and not knowing how to talk to people in a professional mater, specially when you work in a hospital. Please this.

I got my renal biopsy here and it was safe and I didn’t feel much pain. I was just little scared so I cried a lot but overall it was all good and the nurses were kind and caring.

ER staff was exceptional. Unfortunately admitted to the hospital and received unbelievable care and treatment. Nurses, Doctors, child life specialist are amazing. I have nothing negative or even mildly un pleasant to say.

I'm giving CHLA four stars for one reason. Wait times. Waiting to see a doctor via an appointment can take months and I mean sometimes a half a year. If your child has a normal problem like a broken arm, cut, regular sickness, do not bring them to the ER here, you can wait up to 8 hours sometimes. This is the downside to CHLA. What's good about them. The doctors and nurses by and large care a great deal. If you have a child who has a rare or difficult to treat problem, no diagnosis for chronic pain, this is where you go. They will do the treatments and tests that doctors and other ERs will not. The doctors all talk to each during visits and before appointments. They all take extensive notes about what is going on and what they have tried and what comes next. If you are not a wealthy person this is a novel experience for parents dealing with a sick child. If you need help and feel like your doctors are giving you the run around, CHLA is the place for you. No hospital is perfect, but CHLA comes close and after many ER visits and two hospital admittances, andvyears of not knowing, we are very thankful to CHLA for the work they have done to help with my daughter's chronic pain. I caution parents two things. Be patient and ask lots of questions (having done your homework, of course). If you need serious help, CHLA will give it to you.

I love the children’s emergency place they treated my son so kindly and they all loved him. From olive view he got transfer to children’s hospital & since we got there they got to it there was like 5 or more doctors. Honestly we got the best service ever, sadly I wouldn’t stay nights with him because his twin sister was a baby and she also needed me, the nurses would always call to make sure I would get all the information or plans the doctors had. Amazing hospital, also they treated my niece amazing as well when she was in this hospital.

My experience is terrible with the nurse Leong Jennifer the nephrology department, Every time I ask for my son's blood results the nurse refuses to send them , I asked for them via fax once again and the nurse sent me a message with another person telling me to request them from the records department. It's not fair to me , it is something personal against this nurse towards me. I feel very bad, my son needs a kidney transplant and I'm supposed to be comfortable in the hospital and the nurse makes it difficult and frustrated. It's very painful moment and I only ask for her help because I need know my son's results. The childrens Hospitals is a place not only to heal our children but also to confort parentss who are devastated by the pain of seeing our children sick. Thank you so much.

Took down my negative review because after calling their complaint department they assisted me and assured me they would handle all my issues and they did. They guided me step by step & helped me figure out why I was misinformed about my insurance coverage. Giant miscommunication & I was very upset and emotional and they took great care of me after figuring out where the root of the problem was.

I received a phone call yesterday asking if I wanted to have a in-home visit from the doctors to check the safety of the house and inspect and make sure everything was OK at first I was a little nervous questioning whether they believed I was able to take take of my kids or if they were safe or not, but I agreed to have them come over and inspect they came by This morning and let me tell you they reassured me that everything was fine and they didn’t think I was doing anything wrong they just wanted to make my home a safer place to prevent something from happening after talking to them for a while I felt very comfortable and happy they had chosen my house to inspect they said they do this once every year they checked the outside the inside the bedrooms and they also check to see how my children’s car seats were placed in my truck and if they were expired or recalled. They gave me some tips and tools to keep my home safe and I am truly thankful Children’s Hospital you go above and beyond to make me and my family feel comfortable thank you so much for caring. I am truly thankful for my children’s doctor Patel N.d. and the staff at Children’s Hospital my family and I Love the hospital and we appreciate everything you do when we have a dr app we feel very comfortable and I never leave with questions unanswered but for you to come all the way to my house and check the safety is incredible thank you so much for caring and taking the time to visit and giving me Some peace of mind and reminding me that we are all human and mistakes happen but we could never be too safe! I don't even think I can write this review without crying, but CHLA saved my son's life. I had a knot in my umbilical cord and my son was born with no oxygen going to his brain, got very sick, and almost did not make it. CHLA rushed in their helicopter all the way to the hospital to where he was born and urgently did everything in their power to save his life while both on the helicopter and in the NICU. My son came home with only being in the NICU for 2 weeks. It was a miracle. With what my son had gone through, babies usually are in the NICU for MONTHS if lucky. CHLA is incredible with communication, updates, they are extremely organized, are on top of everything , and have prestigious medical care. Me and my family were VERY IMPRESSED with this hospital. We have never experienced anything like it. They truly do care and it is one of the best hospitals in the world for children for a reason. They will truly take the time to help your child and comfort your anxiety. They even have meetings held with the WHOLE MEDICAL TEAM in where they sit down with you explain step by step what procedures will be done, what his treatment plan is, and for you to address any concerns you have or ask any questions. You will NEVER be left in the dark here. THANK YOU CHLA WE LOVE YOU

I was AMAZED by the excellent care my little boy received in general and on the 6 floor West. Everyone there treated my boy like he was a KING!! I appreciate all the compassion to us and to others. Our experience has been nothing but wonderful. Everyone we meet is so kind and warm. You genuinely feel like every single staff member loves children which is great to see. My 2 year old went in for surgery yesterday and I was completely amazed at the service that we received. From the admitting personal to the post surgery nurse, everyone made me feel like my baby was in good hands. Dr. Koempel is an amazing ENT surgeon and Dr.Tan, the anesthesiologist was wonderful. I came here as a child 30 years ago for treatment. Although the treatment was tough, I loved coming to the campus because they made me feel special. My 4 year old has had problems for years that Kaiser has ignored. The experienced neurologist here finally gave a correct diagnosis for him today. I felt so relieved and more complete. They made my child feel so special, and they took my concerns seriously. No other place made me feel like my child mattered. Chla is still the best place for kids!

The best hospital I have ever been to. First of all, I love the vibe of the hospital and it gives me and patients a welcoming feeling. It is so clean and the technology they use are advanced. I love the management and nurses of this facility, they were so nice to me. The cafeteria food was awesome and they have a lot of choices from pizza to sushi to tomato cream soup. I am definitely going to apply to this facility in the future.

I just wanted to hop on here and say that I think most of these negative reviews are by people who are forgetting that we are, as a nation, going through a tough time, it's the hardest for Hospitals, supplies, staff, attitudes etc. DONT go to a hospital for a cut, a bump, a bruise. Don't leave negative reviews about a facility about the lack there of in staff, NO one has staff it's not particular to the facility. If you are so offended you go get a nursing degree and pitch in! BE HELPFUL! NOT HARMFUL!

As a parent I hope no one has a kid with any health issue, CHLA is the best place for care. I will start from reception to labs to nurses to doctors they are all super hero’s we have been coming here for 17 years for our son.The care and service this place provides. Words can not express how great this hospital is.I call the workers here life angels. If you kid gets admitted the way the nurses here provide care here 24/7 it’s is amazing. My daughter had heart surgery here, I am extremely happy with the results. The staff was very kind and the facilities were amazing. The cafeteria is decent and had plenty of room. There is a coffee shop which serves Starbucks coffee. There are ATMs located on the ground floor. The area is very clean and there is plenty of parking.

I have to give CHLA a five star rating because they saved me during my first year or so of life. My parents were immigrants in their 20s, uninsured, and poor in the 90's, so they couldn't afford the procedure to correct my congenital heart defect. However, there was a foundation which covered the expenses for my surgery and recuperation. According to my mom, the surgeon could’ve "done the operation with his eyes closed", since he had fixed countless cases of VSD in infants. The surgery occurred at some time between Sept 1995-1997. As of 2022, I am a healthy 26-year-old woman who is active, strong, educated, well-traveled, and grateful. The only evidence of my heart surgery are two small scars on my back and side. I donated to the foundation, which is the least I could do. Thank you for giving my life a chance despite the odds.

The high review scores are deserved for the most part. This is a renowned hospital. What you need to pay close attention to is your security, especially your valuables. Make sure you hold onto everything you have because theft is big problem and goes largely unreported for any followup investigation. Victims have found themselves on their own. It appears this is a growing problem not just here but any hospital or healthcare facility.

I constantly work with CHLA they are great. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because pulmonary dept is horrible to reach never returns calls and takes weeks to get anything clarified. Case managers for pulmo dept are not great either. I don't know if it's too busy and they are always low staffed or they are just rude al together. Over all other dept I have no issues with and medical record always helpful with getting paperwork on time.

I may have posted a similar review over the years, but my sentiments have never changed, and I'll never cease being grateful. Dr. Joseph Church, his colleagues, and all the dedicated staff SAVED MY SONS LIFE. PERIOD. On August 20th, 1999, my nearly 2 year old son was airlifted from Las Vegas to L.A. in cardiac and respiratory arrest. Metabolic acidosis. Less than a 1% chance of survival. I was told to prepare for the worst. The Last Rites were read TWICE to my son. Everything in our world collapsed. But the steadfast commitment, dedication and honestly, LOVE, that my son was shown will never leave me. I will FOREVER be thankful to everyone that cared for my boy, and cared for us, as well. He will turn 23 this fall... And for that fact alone, I will FOREVER be in debt to this institution, and EVERYONE that makes it a special place. As the years roll by, and life happens, I just hope that someone reads this and finds a spark of hope in our little chapter of our experience with CHLA. We didn't have any, but Dr. Church changed that, and performed a miracle, I will always believe that. And I'm not a religious man, but it's the only worthy explanation. If it's at all possible, I hope that Dr. Church will be able to read this, and that he knows just how much he means to us. Gratefully, Humbly, and Sincerely... Dean Lazzaro, Father.

This is a incredible hospital and here the nurses are so interested to help their patient. Most of the doctors here are so knowledgeable and experienced and there are also of pathologist here. I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy(not in this hospital) took him home and I noticed my baby was super yellow and his eyes too...I took him to the doctor and told me he needed to go to the hospital because he haded jaundice and it was really high...the ended up putting him in the lights stay for 2 days and went home...the jaundice did went down for 2 days and did what doctor told me and gave him his medicine...but it look like he got worst...went back to his doctor and send me back to the hospital...they check it again and his jaundice was higher...and told me he haded a kidney infection and haded to stay for a moth...the hold stay was wonderful they treated my baby well and also me...they show me where to sleep and shower...and seen I just haded given birth they were always checking up on me too...they help me with my baby at night told me to rest...all the nurse's I got where super nice...doctor explain everything and the nurse's too...I thank them so much my son got better and look better then before...I am grateful for this hospital...my daughter haded a fractured arm and also treated us well...I love this place even though it's far I always come to this hospital it always my number one chose...I recommend this hospital to all moms and dads...to bring there children...there be treated wonderful...

My son was in and out of this hospital for a year and I can't imagine a better place for him. These people know him and took the time to understand his needs as well as mine and my concerns. They have brought my son back from the brink of death a few times and I am so grateful to these people. The doctor who performed the surgery (Dr. Dawn) along with her team of nurses were absolutely phenomenal and made my son and us feel so well taken care of and guided us in every step. They are all so sweet and give their best care and attention. We truly left very satisfied and grateful for the beautiful experience especially because I thought it was going to be very hard on my son and me but they made it exceptional. I would give them 4.5 stars if I could. I love this hospital, but the only reason I would give them half a star less is because they charge for parking. I almost never have cash so it's a struggle for me to pass to an ATM every time I come and get cash. Then my husband rushes me because he feels like we are parked in a meter. He tells me that every minute counts. I love this hospital from inside-out. They have two Starbucks inside this hospital. One is right in the front were you have to register yourself. The other one is open 24 hours near the cafeteria. When you sign-in they ask you were are you going and if you know how to get there. If you don't know how to get there they send someone to escort you to your location. They are super friendly and talkative. They send me here because they need to be checking my son's eyes because of his extreme prematurity. When I arrive to the vision center the receptionist is really nice. You check in with her than you take a seat. The wait isn't long at all. If you come late they reschedule you so I think that helps. They send me back once because I was late I understood there was a lot of people waiting. Also, I think they were a bit behind that day. Dr. Lee is a great doctor. He also explains everything so you are able to understand. His assistant is very sweet and translate for him in Spanish. He usually does a quick check and were done. He explains how his eyes are and how his eyes are doing so far. I recommend this hospital for everyone that had kids. It is so pretty and they have areas for the kids to play almost everywhere. The doctors and staff are great too! Don't forget to stop buy Starbucks to spoil yourself too.

I just had a very difficult surgery done on Oct 12 and stayed at the hospital for 5 days and would like to recommend this hospital. Very nice and professional staff, all the rooms are private and if you are on the top floors great view. There is nothing bad to say about the hospital and it's staff I just hoped they will use Crepe Bandage instead of that heavy duty industrial tape which gave me a new skin since it ripped out the old one. Not to mention me being from middle east I have lots of body hair and it was not pleasant but hey that's the only complain I have. Thanks to everyone that took care of me while I was there

I had a successful cervical laminectomy with decompression, and spinal fusion that greatly reduced my scoliosis. Only complaint I would have is that sometimes they make you wait a long time past your scheduled appointment until you actually go inside. Overall, good staff and medical professionals.

The rooms are large and accommodating at the same time they have an eased way of helping you get better. It's great. Keep up the good work! P.s. The comment below "only Latinos work there... if there were more African American, and caucasian the service would be better," shows that person's close minded negligence. First off this is not one of the best hospitals in the world for nothing. Second; its a childrens hospital not an adult hospital they are not working to serve adults. Third; the ratio of ethnicities are equal. You can easily see that by walking through the cafeteria during the lunch rush where you will find a multitude of employees of different natures.

I had surgery at CHLA on 3/12/19 for a bone tumor in my ankle. From surgical admitting all the way to me being discharged the hospital staff was amazing. The nurses were excellent, the pain team was always there if I needed them, and Dr. Tolo and his resident were absolutely amazing. They answered all of our questions and reassured us about everything. The hospital is incredible and I see why it is rated so highly. What I noticed from day one when I first came on board this project is that Children's Hospital does cater not only to parents and familes but more specifically and importantly the children the kids I mean from kid friendly waiting areas with tables and chairs knee high, some witj slides, someone cartoons even I noticed in one of the recovery rooms were a child was getting a cast put on little watching Elmo pretty cool. Now the hospital does have a cafeteria I can't remember what the name of it is the expensive and restaurants around the area but it's the hospital that's all about the kids and that's what I appreciate

He made sure we spoke to a social worker and answered our questions the best he could and referred us to the right person when he felt we needed information on something out of his expertise.
