Wow...what an awesome series of visits I've had with the great staff at Chesapeake Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine! Having had low back issues for most of my life, I decided to give acupuncture a try. And what was so neat was how Dr Smithmyer studied my medical history, and used that as the basis of her treatment plan for me. She and her staff have been just wonderful in every respect. I haven't felt this well in years!

I had muscle spasms in my neck and upper back to the point where my whole day revolved around finding a couple moments of comfort. Couldn’t turn my head without pain. It was horrible. After 2 or 3 visits to Chesapeake Acupuncture, my pain was totally manageable. I had 10 sessions and half way through, I no longer had a need for topicals, massage pillows, or any other therapeutic devices. The staff was always very friendly and professional. The doctor was also friendly, positive, and extremely knowledgeable. I will refer to them for any of my future needs.

Wonderful experience from start to finish! I scheduled an appointment with Jinell for neck pain and digestive issues. From the moment you walk in, you start feeling relaxed. Her office is comfortable, clean, and welcoming. Coming from someone who has never had acupuncture before, I did not know what to expect. She took a full history before getting started and made sure that I was comfortable throughout the treatment. I felt incredible after my first visit and continued going back regularly. I had a combination of acupuncture, cupping, and also was taking Chinese Herbs that she recommended. Jinell is extremely knowledgeable, provides excellent care, and quite honestly just a joy to be around! I highly recommend her!

Dr Jinell is so intuitive to what your needs are. After only one month of treatment I am having great results. My back pain has greatly decreased, and she zeroes in on where you are holding tension. I've even had reduced pain due to a bunion. I would highly recommend her if you have pain that hasn't been treated successfully. It also helps your body to unlock and be more cohesive.

Dr. Jinell Smithmyer helped me with a flareup of severe low back pain. It's a chronic lumbar disc issue with lots of muscle tension. When it flares, it can greatly impact my quality of life and mobility; it's impossible to ignore the pain when it's at it's worst. Dr. Jinell helped me drastically reduce the pain. I felt very guarded in this area and knew I needed acupuncture to feel better, but it still felt scary to have work done on my back when everything was so spasmed. She treated me for a difficult Bell's Palsy which has improved. Weeks of nausea stopped almost immediately and overall strength returned. I ran a 5K within a month. Amazing staff and overall patient experience. They really all give such a personal touch. I’ve never been to a medical facility where the entire crew from front desk to assistant to doctor genuinely care so much about my overall health and well being. Always a 5 star VIP experience and the results are irrefutable. I had an unknown condition post covid no medical doctor could figure out how to treat. It prevented me from being able to eat or swallow. I was on a liquid only diet for months just withering away to nothing. Within two treatments I was eating solid foods again and now after several weeks I’m actually feeling like myself. If you are even remotely on the fence about acupuncture or Dr. Smithmyer, don’t be. Just do it! You will not be disappointed.

For the last 1 1/2 years, I have endured ongoing bilateral swelling/bulging above my collar bone (super clavicle). The onset of the swelling happened overnight after I accessed my attic to lay insulation. After numerous tests and no answer from the traditional medical community, I was ready to give up. I have been passed from one medical specialist to the next without resolution. Early on when the swelling occurred, I had tried acupuncture but found the procedure painful, awkward to receive, and ultimately without result. However, a friend knowing my ongoing struggles recommended I not give up on acupuncture. She recommended Jinell. So I thought what do I have to lose. Not only has her treatment helped to reduce the swelling, she patiently explained her plan and next steps. For the first time since the swelling occurred, I felt someone in the medical field was actually listening and cared about my overall health. She has also been very helpful to recommend a traditional doctor comfortable pursuing a more integrative approach which considers tandem use of both eastern and western medicine treatments and diagnostic tools. One final note, Jinel’s demeanor is not only kind but very professional. Even though my understanding of Eastern medicine is just beginning, I have no issue trusting her judgement even though I may not exactly understand. I always joked about acupuncture as a great way to waste time and money. Well it is not a joke to me anymore. It has really started to help with my issue. I highly recommend Jinell.

I can unequivocally say that Dr. Jinell Smithmyer is the absolute best acupuncturist I have ever encountered, and over the past 30 years, I have utilized the services of numerous acupuncturists in the Annapolis area who have treated me for various ailments…bodily pains, migraines, hot flashes, etc. For the last several years I have been dealing with a hip problem that I initially thought was just a pulled muscle, but it got progressively worse and reached the point where it impaired not only my extracurricular life, but also my ability to accomplish normal every day functions, like walking. I saw countless doctors and even scheduled surgery, which I cancelled after obtaining a second and third opinion. The hip doctor said it’s not your hip, it’s your back. The back doctor said it’s not your back, it’s your hip. Both of these doctors said I did not need surgery, but they didn’t offer any suggestions or hope. Enter Dr. JINELL SMITHMYER! I liked her instantly! Jinell has a warm, gentle, ultra-caring nature. She’s an excellent listener, is always attentive to what I’m saying, and spends time before each treatment reviewing where we are and what kind of result I got from the last treatment. She is skilled and confident, and she was absolutely determined to get to the root of my problem. It took a number of treatments, but happily, I can now do things I haven’t been able to do in years. What is the difference between Jinell and other practitioners? My experience has been that many acupuncturists perform a rote service. Your ailment is X and the treatment for X is Y. Y is all they ever did for me, even if we didn’t get results. In contrast, Jinell persistently explores her knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the human body, and the arsenal of tools and approaches available to address my issues. Bottom line . . . Jinell seems to care a lot more and invests herself in my treatment. I do not believe there is a more skilled, compassionate, and knowledgeable acupuncturist in the area. I am extremely grateful to Jinell for the treatments she provides as well as for the warmth and kindness she extends to me. Her office is always clean and comfortable, and I look forward to my treatments as one would look forward to a relaxing appointment at a spa. I visited Dr. Smithmyer to assist with my Plantar Fasciitis (PF). I've had PF for over 18 years and it became a serious condition 4 years ago. During the last 4 years, I've seen 4 pediatrists, 2 other acupuncturists, physical therapists and chiropractors to battle the pain. I used to run a few days per week, which cause the PF and I was told that I would never run again. During my first visit, Dr. Smithmyer implemented a holistic plan to eliminate the pain. I followed the plan and her instructions over several months and a couple weeks ago, I ran a 5k. She made the impossible possible. I strongly recommend Dr. Smithmyer and will sing her praises for years to come.
