This is such a great salon! I saw Kristen P. And was looking to get a light balayage and a cut. She did an amazing job my color was amazing and she was super friendly and nice. Please see the photos attached she did such a wonderful job! Best balayage I have ever gotten.

I came in for a full highlight in Sept. 2022 to visit a specific stylist, then got there and found out the salon had changed my stylist without telling me. My service also included hidden fees and cost much more than I anticipated. My complaints are with Mariposa salon, not with the stylist who performed my service. I didn't figure out that my booking had been switched from Kristen to another stylist until I was in the wrong stylist's chair. At that point, it was was too late for me to address it without making the stylist doing my highlights feel uncomfortable, & frankly it wasn't her problem to deal with anyway. But I had originally booked with Kristen because she's a curl enthusiast and did a wonderful job on my friend's curly hair & the other stylist wasn't a curl specialist. Come to find out, the salon switched my booking at its own discretion, without mine or Kristen's permission. I don't understand why they chose not to communicate with me about it. I only booked at that salon for Kristen, and I don't appreciate that they changed my appointment without asking either of us. Hidden fees also significantly changed the price of my service, which started at $225. I figured the price would increase somewhat, but not to $390. In a decade of getting full highlights, I've never had such a dramatic price increase. Had I known this was a possibility, I would have booked elsewhere because I'm not in a position to spend over $400 on one hair appointment. After reviewing my itemized receipt, I found separate charges for a bond builder (mixed into the bleach) and blow-dry, which made up about half of the cost increase. I was never asked if I wanted a bond builder in my bleach or a blow-dry, they just did both. I never would have known they used a bond builder, but a few bowls of bleach into the service I asked her a question about haircare. While answering, she mentioned that there was a bond builder mixed into the bleach. Even then, she didn't mention that it was a $50 upcharge. Same goes to the blow-dry—if you expect blow dry your clients' hair, include it in the price. Otherwise, tell them they can leave with wet hair or pay extra for a blow-dry. Don't surprise them with the cost of a blowout at checkout when nobody asked them if they wanted it in the first place. I won't be returning to mariposa salon because they gave me the impression that they don't care to treat their stylists or customers properly. Also, I found out that Kristen has since changed salons and got a service done at her new place. She did amazing. Girl knows her curls!

Everyone at Mariposa Salon is friendly and the light-filled space is gorgeous! I had my color touched up and a haircut by SAMANTHA and she did an amazing job. She listened to what I was going for an executed on what I was envisioning perfectly. She’s also just a really great person to spend 2 hours with, I couldn’t recommend her more.

I went into this completely blindly, never having work with Brenda’s team here at Mariposa I am so picky about my hair, but I went on a whim, and had highlights and a haircut done by Tyler. All I can say is wow.... Tyler is so talented at his craft, and took my hair and made it absolutely incredible! I cannot recommend Mariposa / Brenda's staff, ESPECIALLY Tyler, more than I can describe in words on a survey! if you’re shopping around or looking for a new stylist or salon, just try them one time! I guarantee you will be hooked! They’re one giant family, and they treat you like you’re being welcomed into their home and family! It's not just a classy & beautiful salon. They even let my mini golden doodle sit next to me and roam around a little bit. To review: it was just an all-incredible "experience" & my visit was a five star, or an A+ rating. I now have family over at Mariposa salon!

This is an excellent salon! My experience is always great, they are clean, professional, and always on time. I get in and out, and my hair looks fabulous. Brenda does an amazing job, and really cares about the health of your hair. Her cuts work both for my curly natural hair and straight styles which is sometimes tough to find a stylist that can cut your hair to look great both ways. Thank you Mariposa! Would highly recommend.

My curly hair had been previously cut in an unflattering way and she knew exactly what to do to highlight my natural texture and to defrizz. I can't recommend her enough!

Jewel at Mariposa is the absolute BEST! I am so grateful for her. She absolutely saved my hair after the WORST experience I’ve ever had at Paris Parker Aveda on Carondelet. They had completely botched my hair with just plain black hair dye and a choppy cut which made me look absolutely horrible. I don’t know who puts black dye on an extremely fair skinned woman. I called Mariposa the next morning and Maria who answered the phone was so kind and asked if I could come in for a consultation so I did and Jewel was able to get me in with her that afternoon! She said she would try her best to lighten my hair and fix my cut and she definitely delivered and exceeded my expectations. Not only was she genuine, she was kind, professional and a true artist. The entire vibe of the salon was Positive and upbeat. Nothing like I had experienced the day before. I honestly cannot say enough good things about Mariposa. I’ve found my new salon and will not go anywhere else. Jewel is awesome. If you are looking for an incredibly talented and knowledgeable hair artist and stylist book your service will Jewel. You will not regret it!

Long overdue review! Been going to the salon for 3 years and I love the place. Excellent service, welcoming environment, clean and modern salon. I also take my teenage boys for their hair cuts. Taj does a fabulous job with them and they will not go anywhere else. The owners have done an amazing job keeping everyone safe during the pandemic and continue to do so. Do yourself a favor and book an appointment.

I love this salon! The interior is well kept and inviting. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and work together very well. Samantha made me feel welcome, as usual, helped me pick a new style for my hair, and agreed to take a last minute appointment for a friend and managed to have us both looking fabulous in less than two hours. Both our cuts were perfect and healthy looking while our color had never looked better!! I will be telling all my friends to get over to Mariposa and give Samantha a visit!

I had a great experience at Mariposa on Magazine and will definitely be going back. When I walked in, the staff were welcoming, offering water, coffee or a mimosa (with no extra charge). Samantha gave me the perfect cut and style. She listened very closely to give me exactly what I wanted and offered cool suggestions I hadn’t thought of to give me a great haircut. As I left, my hair looked better than it had looked any other time that I had walked out of a salon. It gave me more confidence in myself and their selective strategy for finding truly talented stylists. I’m excited to have found Mariposa, it’s changed my hair game ✌️

When I first moved to New Orleans, I simply went online and looked for a salon with good reviews, and the hair stylist that was complimented the most: this salon and Alis had both, and I will never go anywhere else! Alis is incredibly talented and goes above and beyond to make sure I feel amazing every time I leave the salon. I can show her pictures/tell her what I want, and she makes it better than I thought it could be in reality! I have been to countless salons where I have to tell myself "a bad haircut/dye only lasts so long" but Alis ensures I feel like a model every time I get out of her chair! Highly, highly recommend!

I can always count on walking out with a great hairstyle when I go to Mariposa. The stylists are friendly, professional and listen to what you want. I would definitely recommend! They also have the VersaSpa for spray tans, which is what initially brought me into Mariposa. It’s the only spray tan machine that I get an even, natural looking tan.

I’ve used this place for a while now for my manicures and pedicures. Mariposa has a relaxing and beautiful ambiance and my nails always look great after. I highly recommend the Dazzle Dry service. It lasts as long as gel, but it removes easily with regular remover.

I had a great experience at this salon! Jenn Velasquez took on a HUGE color correction job for me and totally nailed it. I’m so happy with how my hair looks and feels! She was able to totally correct all the crazy color bands and gold/brassy tones so that my hair looks nice and even, and lifted it to a paler blonde. I’m trying to go platinum so I’ll be back soon for my next appointment!

Best baliage I have ever had. I live in NY, was in town for a wedding, was in dire need of color, and Alis fit me in for what can only be described as my best color ever. I wish I lived in New Orleans just so she could do my hair all the time. And the blow out and hairstyle she gave me for the wedding also made me feel like a supermodel. The salon was so chill, from the mimosa they offered to the great staff. I love Alis.

Stylist Madeline at this salon styled my typical Asian hair so well that I've gone back for a second cut as well as a trim in between and going for my third soon. I've sung her praises to all. Because of the texture of my hair I didn't think I could get the pixie, with wisps and all, but Madeline proved me wrong. The rest of the staff and owner Floyd are also professional and friendly.

I initially had a difficult experience here when the flat irons the stylist used dried out my hair. The cut looked great on the day, but the next day my hair was suffering. I have very fine hair and have to be careful with heat treatments. I'm happy to say that when I called Mariposa they were very understanding, took me in for a complimentary deep conditioning treatment that improved things greatly, and told me they would call me in a few days to see how my hair is looking. It looks so much better now and I'm really happy with the results. They handled the problem very well, I was happy with the service I received.

I have fine but thick curly hair with a mind of it's own. Some days its kinky, some days the curls are strung out, and most days a combination. Everytime I have been to this salon I have recieved a great hair dresser and have never left disappointed. Honestly believe the owner doesn't hire anyone who can't cut curly hair, and let's be honest. If you can cut curly hair you can cut any kind of hair (in my opinion). This last time I got Alis and have never had so much volume and am completely in love with my hair right now!

Scissor therapy! We all need it! I went to Mariposa Salon today, at their new location on S. Carrollton, between Five Guys and Felipe's. My stylist, Janina, cut and spiked up my hair and I feel beautiful! If you need a new look, Janina's scissors are ready! Mariposa always puts the customer first. That's why I go to Janina every month for my color and cut...Love it!
