I have been natural for over four years and Bessie has been taking care of my hair the entire time. I mostly do trims/cuts but have had her do extensions from time to time and have always been pleased with the results, I have received many compliments thanks to her. She takes her time and makes sure you are happy with the results and does her best to accommodate your schedule even with last minute appointments.

Best experience I've ever had at a salon! I just now started my natural hair transition, and I walked in not knowing what I needed done to my hair. Bessie is truly a gem. She clipped my ends and told me the best treatment for growth. she was kind and personable. I felt really comfortable and everything was easy. I will definitely be back!!!

Wonderful service. Ms. Bessie is such an amazing woman. She helped me start off my journey on the natural hair path. She showed me which products to get for my type of hair. She is very personable. It took 2.5 hours to get my horrible hair in shape and no matter how hungry she got she didn't make me wait nor did she make me feel like a burden (though I insisted she eat). She talked about everything with my friend and I. I'm also a diabetic and when I ran out of water and snacks (not expecting to be there as long) she offered me a bottle of water and some of her snacks so that my blood sugar wouldn't crash. I will see her again. She has a repeat and happy customer. Thank you Ms. Bessie.

I used to get my locks retwisted there and the service was AMAZING. Yes, each of my appointments took over 3 hours but it was always worth the wait and my locks flourished. I also got to see some of her other work with natural hair and I applaud their talent. I have had to move out of the countr back to Africa an took my locks out but kept my hair natural and all I can think about is how good my hair would be holding up if I could have Betsy do it!!! Loved my experience and would ALWAYS recommend Malobes.

Ms. Bessie was referred to me by a coworker. She is the one who started my locs via 2-strand twists. I think she did a great job. My concerns started to grow the more I came to her as I think she was becoming comfortable.
#1 She over books. At the time I had a very busy schedule working two jobs. I would tell Bessie that I can't be in the salon all day and that if she has a 1:00pm appointment available I need to be in the chair by 1:00pm. I have been late to work because I'm waiting on her. One time I was in the salon ALL DAY as she had two clients ahead of me at a 12pm appointment which I didn't get into the chair until 3pm.
#2 She asked me to sign up with her MLM coffee company and talked about all this money can be made...
#3 When I had baby locs I always paid $60 for a wash and retwist. I learned how to do it on my own and kept up with it very well. The last time I went in she told me it would be more than $60 because when I don't come in she has to do more work...umm no you don't because I have very good loc maintenance.
Needless to say I've been loc'd for 5 years and I do my own wash and retwists. I get compliments daily on how good my hair looks. Bessie is the last salon I have stepped foot in and its a blessing because I have saved hundreds of dollars.

Had a wonderful first time experience with Miss Bessie yesterday. My hair was a disaster because I failed at transitioning from relaxed to natural hair. So half of my head was new growth and the rest was dead relax hair. I've been getting relaxers consistently for 20 years and wanted to go all natural. I have so much hair and it's really thick that I just gave up and my hair started to clump together. Y'all it was a mess! So much so that I would wear scarves in public.
When I saw Miss Bessie yesterday and showed her my hair we both started laughing (in a good way of course):) It was really bad y'all! However, Miss Bessie knew exactly what to do. She cut my dead ends of the relaxer (which left just my new growth), untangled, washed and deep conditioned. I ended up getting 2 stand twists and will be taking it out in a week or so to have a head full of curls. My hair is still long despite the needed trim of all the dead hair but now my hair is HEALTHY!
I will be seeing her again in 3 weeks and recommend her to anyone who's transitioning to all natural and have no idea what they are doing. She also recommended me good products for my hair and told me to stay away from products I see other natural girls using (i.e. vloggers) because it may work on their hair but not on mine. I learned so much about being natural and was literally in tears after everything was done because my hair was that damaged and bad. I am forever thankful for Miss Bessie and love her expertise on natural hair as she's the only professional I know in MN who has been doing ONLY natural hair for 20+ years.
Thank you! Thank you! Now I can throw my scarf away lol. :)

I have been coming to this salon for 3-4 months and am satisfied enough with it. I have not had any problems with double booking so far which is great. Her availability for appointments is decent. She is good with having basic conversations about fashion, food, etc. which makes the appointments go quick. I did feel a little doubt a couple of times. One was when she didn't seem to have an answer about why a few locks felt thin in the middle. When I described to her how some loctitians use thin crochet hooks to solve this problem, she didn't know what I was talking about and proceeded to twist all my baby locs like normal. The thinness in those locs are still there. I don't know if she anticipates these few locs will fill out with time, but.... Another time I felt uncomfortable was when I first started seeing her. She described a situation in which a client had a complaint and she admitted to essentially ignoring the client's complaint and doing what she wanted to do anyway. She has a habit of not washing all the conditioner out the very back of my locs because she believes it keeps my back conditioned longer. That's great and all, but it makes that area itchy as hell between retwists. It's my fault I don't say anything, but judging from the story she told, I don't want to deal with her ignoring me speaking up. Otherwise, she gets the job, is on time, is easy to talk to, hasn't double booked me yet, and is nice. I'll keep going to her for a while and hope it keeps going well enough.

I could cry I am so happy and relieved to have found Bessie!! FINALLY, a loctician who really knows what she is doing. There are many, many stylists who claim to know dreads.....Bessie is the first we've worked with (and we've been to 5!) who knows what she is doing. She is also delightful, kind, warm and patient. (My son is 5 and not always the most cooperative customer! She even shared her lunch with him!) When we left, he said "Miss Bessie is wonderful." I agree!

I have been coming to Malobe Natural since I was 11 years old. I love my dreads and Ms. Bessie maintains them really well!

I went to get sisterlock extensions which she told me she knew how to do. Instead of interlocking them in a crochet fashion she twisted the hair around my locks. Therfore they are no longer Sisterlocks. The extension are to thick adding stress to my natural hair. Extensions started coming out within three days and every day thereafter. I had to go back three times in one week to have extension placed back in. Because I ordered food she felt it was OK to take 45 minutes to sit down and eat to. Honey your on the clock. Bessie will nickel and dime you to death. The style was nice but it was so tight I got bumps around the edges. If you want extensions seek service elsewhere.

Bessie is the best! I've been coming to Bessie for more than 10 years. I live an hour away and I come see her at least once a month. I've gotten a lot of countless positive compliments about my locs. She is wonderful! I read through some of the reviews and it seems to me that some of negative reviews are just a case of a bad situation. Nobody is perfect. Bessie is a pro at what she does!

I have been getting my locs done here for more than 20yrs. Over all I have been a client for almost 30yrs. She invests in her clients always attending hair shows and classes to learn new things and to keep her clients in the know!
