I’ve been coming to this place for years. I love getting haircuts and hair color by Kim. However, this time I wanted highlights and didn’t have availability any time during the week so I decided to do a walk-in appointment. Thankfully the had an opening and I was assigned Tianna. This was the first time I got to see her work and I absolutely loved my highlights and experience with her. Don’t hesitate to give her a chance :)

I called this salon this morning and asked for a same day appointment because I had gotten my hair cut and colored at a different salon yesterday and the color was all wrong. They graciously accommodated and put me at ease. They listened to what I wanted (“bronde”) coloring and assured me they could fix the bizarre job done by another salon. I was so impressed, they even had two people foiling and blow drying my hair. It’s definitely a no frills place, but they do a great job and I soooo appreciated them getting me the same day. I have been going here for more than a decade now, and it’s always worth the wait (it’s a popular place, so be prepared to wait) to have my cut and color done right at a fantastic price. The few times I’ve had to go other places (in emergency situations) I’ve always had to come back and get it fixed here. They are all experts of Asian hair, but I specifically request Kim each time.

I decided to give this place a shot because I was looking for an Asian stylist for my Asian hair. People in the west simply don’t understand our hair functions differently. Initially I was a bit scared by the reviews but gave it a shot. I called in for an appointment and requested for Kim like the other reviewers. I walked in at my appointment time, it wasn’t that long after they opened at 10 but they were already pretty packed. Fortunately I was helped once they could—so only had to wait like 10-15 min. I asked Kim for a two block and she got right to work. She knows her stuff! I didn’t even get a chance to show her a photo of what I wanted but she nailed it. Not only did she cut my hair well—she also washed it and helped me style it a bit—to teach me how to do it myself. Super sweet lady and all this came to 23$. Needless to say I will be back.

I have the most resilient, stubborn, thick Vietnamese hair. This salon has been the only tried and true place over the years. The only place that has successfully given me hair cuts, perms, and platinum bleaches. Literally go to college out of state and come back to get my hair done by them because they're the only people to never fail hair like mine!

Hands down my favorite hair salon. Not only are the prices reasonable, but they do a great job coloring and cutting my Asian hair. Be sure to make an appointment especially if you’re not just getting a hair cut. We’ve moved away from Minnesota, but I still come back here when we visit family to get my hair done. Trang is a wonderful stylist. Super attentive and easy to talk to.

This is my go-to place for a haircut in the Twin cities! Great no-frills Asian haircut, and great value prices. A wash and cut for only $20! They don't have any front desk person who greets you so it might be disconcerting at first because of the chaos. But if you've made an appointment you will be fine. So don't be intimidated by the foreign language and busy-ness of the place! Well worth it - quick and efficient

This salon gets super busy, but they are good with people helping the stylists by washing hair and blow dry to keep customers moving. Reservations are advised but they will try to accomodate walk ins as much as possible. I have not had issues with getting the cut (men's) I want from the three stylists I've had (Kim, Trang, and Nam).

I had really long damaged black hair. I had shown the hair dressers what I’d like (a really ashy blonde almost grey) and they said it was doable but they kindly suggested to add dimension by keeping stripes of my natural hair color. I said yes of course because dimension sounds cool. My hair didn’t come out exactly how I wanted but it’s not their fault. I said yes to something I maybe shouldn’t have, or maybe should’ve commented on how big the sections we weren’t bleaching were going to be. Anyways! My hair still turned out beautiful and extremely healthy looking/feeling. So much better than when I came in. I still highly recommend and the pricing was very reasonable. I had 3 girls working on my hair and they were all super kind. My hair took around 3 hours because I have so much hair that needed bleach, toner, and repair. Also their technique of applying the bleach was very professional! The sections and foils were so neat and satisfying. My advice when going: Book an appointment!!! I didn’t realize so many people don’t book appointments but you can’t always expect to see a stylist right away. Also, don’t be intimidated by the hair dressers speaking their own languages. It’s just easier for them to communicate to each other especially when they need each other to do things. A lot of the time they’re literally talking about work related things or small talk with coworkers like about their families, the music playing, shopping, etc. People love to assume they’re gossiping- just stop. If you don’t want to hear them talk/their music then bring headphones or earbuds!

Their pricing is affordable. However I have been there twice and every time I get a hair color they always ask if I want a hair cut and both times I said sure. BUT both times I specifically told them just a trim and not a lot off the ends. I end up walking out with layers that I hate. I didn’t say anything bc overall everything else was good it’s just I spent weeks growing out my hair after the time she gave me layers. Then for me to go and end up right back where I started. If you ask for a trim or a haircut and don’t want layers, make sure to specifically tell them to not give you layers.

I saw a woman with fine, thin, straight, short hair like just like me. Unlike me, her hair looked GREAT! She told me Nam had been cutting her hair for years. I went yesterday and this is the BEST cut I’ve had in years. My last cut was at Bloody Gorgeous and it was $60 more than Nam charges. Im delighted. Thanks Nam!

I've always been coming here. Can't get better and genuine service anywhere else. I'm a male and all of them are amazing at what they do. They wash your hair twice, before and after cut. They spend about 10 min for me and cut places other shops would just be too lazy to make sure it's correct . They use this blunt knife to kind of even out my ends which is really nice and it's looks so good :) Everyone there is super nice and wait time can is always else than 30 min. Usually 10-15 average

I went to go see Vanessa because I have heard that her coloring skills are pretty amazing. Not going to lie, I was a little skeptical going in because the entire style of the salon is like a nail salon where they work on multiple people at one time. Because of this, it felt like you weren’t the center of attention at most times which can suck because changing your hair can be a little hectic and you don’t wanna rush it. However, Vanessa pulled through and I was extremely surprised and satisfied with my hair. I had a balayage done and it looked amazing. I recommended my friends to go to her and they also ended up loving their colors. I won’t ever let anyone touch my Asian black hair again unless it’s Vanessa because other people have no idea what they’re doing. I tipped 25% but if I could have tipped more, I sure as hell would have.

Mai Hoa Salon is a wonderful place when you want to have your hair done nicely! Highly talented and very friendly staff. I've had my hair done by Kim and Trang for more than two years. They are amazing hair stylists. I just tell them a rough idea of what I want for my hair, they make it look beautiful. I would definitely recommend Mai Hoa Salon.

Very affordable Asian hairsalon with decent service. I have never been to American hairsalon, so I cannot compare Mai Hoa with them. However, Mai Hoa has more stylists that do great haircuts, and they somewhat stick to their reservation schedule. It provides a very good balance among haircut style, affordability, and quality of service. PS, By “somewhat”, I mean you will probablyly receive haircut within 30 mins of the scheduled time.

Last time I went in for an ombré but the lady gave me highlights.... which was pretty disappointing. But this place has always been the only salon that I go to that’s affordable.
