Sarah is fantastic and Josie (the mascot) pup is usually there to greet you when you show up to get a rad haircut. She does a great job on my teenagers hair and my hair as well. Also the offer you water or beer when you come in for a cut, what more can you possibly want?

yes. Yes. Y e s. My first time going in for a salon cut, and I was going from really long to really short. This place was so beautifully decorated and fully lives up to its name. My favorite part has to be the henna skull on one of the walls. The people are amazing and Ginger, my stylist, was so kind and fun to be around. I didn't have many pictures to show what I wanted because I couldn't find any online, so I drew some pictures in my sketchbook instead. They were so awesome and easily figured out how my cartoon style of hair would translate into real life. The experience of cutting off 2ft of hair after having it for so long was so liberating. They were so accurate to what I wanted, but there was a change in my style of the undercut. I wanted it to fade into a longer length before the top of my head but they told me how that might not be good for my head shape, so it changed a little. But other than that they were able to cut it so perfectly. I was surprised at how fast they cut my hair, and how they were so gentle with my scalp and hair. At one point they were going a little hard with the blow dryer and brush, and when I asked if they could ease up they immediately apologized and were so gentle with my sensitive scalp. I'm so happy I can actually style my hair now and curl it too! Everyone was so nice and another hairdresser even came up to me after and said that I looked really good with my short hair, and they both were shocked at how heavy the ponytail was. They were super kind and gendered me correctly the whole time (They/Them). I wish I could rate more stars.

These gals got it going on at Cryptid — I see Erin and she does a fantastic job with my cut and color. She's got a great attention for detail and is highly thorough. She's even kept notes over the past several sessions to keep track of what she's done and changes made along the way. I can't imagine going anywhere else. Oh and did I mention that it's so awesome to enjoy a beer with my haircut!? Love it!!

They might not explain what it meant, but the atmosphere will feel appropriate and the haircut will be what you want. Abbey V. is FABULOUS and she did such a gorgeous cut. I came in wanting a change from my very long, very boring hair. I only gave some key words like shaggy and bangs. She took the time to explain the cut and why she suggested that particular way. I put full faith in her decisions and I couldn’t be happier! She has an amazing talent for cutting to fit and compliment facial features. Thank you, Abbey- I truly love my new hair!

Young trans guy review here! I finally got my first trans cut here a few weeks ago (forgot to make a review sooner oof) and im very happy with it! I forgot the name of who cut my hair but i think she had purple hair. The environment felt great and she she did a good job. I cant really think of a lot to say besides thank you! - Dexter

Cryptid is doing everything right. Their salon is socially distanced, they take everyone's temperature before any cut, masks are mandatory, and everyone is kept safe at all times. It's crazy that this is a selling point, but here we are. Now for the actual haircuts: Sarah did a fantastic job on my head and made me happy with my hair for the first time in a while. She's also a wonderful person that made me feel comfortable chatting while cutting my hair about our pets and the crazy lives we live in 2020. Overall, one of the best experiences I've had with a hair salon in the twin cities. Highly recommend.

True professionals here! I've had Sarah cut my hair for the last few years now and it's one of the best decisions to improve my style. It's like the difference between buying a regular suit, and getting one tailored; sure, you can look ok with an off the rack suit, but when you can have a professional cut and tailor your suit for you, it's really the next step up. Sarah has the most attention to detail out of anyone I've had cut my hair, and it shows. I'm consistently happy with her work and it's always a good feeling to have her cut my hair. 5/5 stars!

Great place for a haircut - super friendly people and fun atmosphere. Sarah has been my barber for a couple years now. Highly recommend her; the other staff all seem great too. Decent parking for the area is always a plus.

MAGICAL. I've never felt so good-looking after a hair appointment in my life Madi absolutely NAILED IT on my bleach 'n tone, color and cut 💯. The ambience at Cryptid is 10/10, great lighting, music, and ART is so much fun to be there! As far as service, I felt taken care of, covid-safe, and I had a great time chatting with Madi, she is super positive and does a great job communicating the hair process and working on it together. So relieved I don't have to go searching for a stylist any more. 🥰

Excellent person-centered service! I went in for a color and cut and was on edge about the color, but Erin was kind enough to spruce my color up :) I received thorough explanation of hair color processes and how my coarse hair texture just sucks colors or products right up! Make sure to call to schedule if you are unsure of what you'll be doing with your hair and should allot additional time for consult and processing. Loved my overall experience!

I've gone to Cryptid for my hair cuts for about a year. First time, I honestly thought my hair looked kinda uneven when I got home, but I just picked a new stylist when I went back. My second stylist was Madi. She actually also noticed the mistake, tried to figure out what happened without freaking me out, and then fixed everything perfectly. Since then, she has been a super sweet, fun stylist; she has coached me on proper hair care, and she's the first stylist I trust to try dying my hair with soon. Going from dark brown to ginger-- very excited!

Just got my hair cut with Madi and she was wonderful! As a fellow curly-haired lady, she was able to help me figure out what exactly I wanted and was super friendly and enthusiastic even as I changed my mind. I will definitely be going back. :) Bonus! They feature local artists in their shop.

I spent a decent amount of time looking for a new salon since I had a less than ideal experience at a previous one. I came across Crypid and the decor immediately stood out to me. I was greeted at the desk and immediately offered a choice of beverages. Sidra did an amazing job at explaining what type of cut would work best for my type of hair and the condition of my hair. She did a phenomenal job and I'm super stoked about my new cut! I definitely found my new go-to salon! 💕

Madi has been doing my super short, textured pixie cut for about a year now. I went to her because I had been cutting my own hair, trying to grow out a Mohawk, and I messed it up BAD! It took a couple cuts to undo my own dumb mistakes, but Madi made me look presentable while my hacks were growing out. She “gets” all my weird cowlicks, and she has a super fun personality. The atmosphere is fun and welcoming, and Cryptid is the ONLY place I will go to get my hair cut!

Anya at Cryptid is the only stylist I've met who hasn't been afraid to give me the hair I've asked for. I've wanted bright red streaks for about a decade and I've gone to various salons with pictures and past stylists always went safe with a more subdued red so I kept leaving frustrated. I've been going to this place since it opened. I followed my stylist from a salon that closed. Sarah has given my the best hair cuts and beard trims I've had. I hope they don't read this, but they aren't charging enough. Prices are very fair. My only possible complaint is you have to sometimes schedule a few weeks in advance. But, that just says how good they are.
