My stylist, Barbara, did an excellent job! I walked in needing a serious trim and I left the salon feeling like she had completely transformed my head of hair. She has very solid skills with cutting and layering, and even some nice styling features at the end. I was very impressed with her calm, confident nature and friendly interactions. I am convinced that I won’t be going to any other stylist besides Barbara in the days ahead. She is a gem!

Ladies, this is a training salon for students just out of school (run by Beauty salon up the street) for them to see if they are good enough to work in their real salon, and to determine if they need more training. I have no problem with that, everyone has to start somewhere, but they should let their customers know. It is frequented by primarily men for a good reason. If you want a professional cut, or anything complicated or detailed, try the real salon that runs this place, or somewhere else. Supercuts is probably a safer bet. The girls are very friendly, but inexperienced. If you want to give a student an opportunity to learn, this is the place for you.

i found this salon through my roommate and absolutely loved it. what a cute little place it was. very chill. barbara was the girl who cut my hair and she was just the sweetest ever and so friendly. i think this was the first time in a while that i was not upset after my hair appointment. she did exactly what i wanted and it didn't cost much at all. definitely will be coming back here!

I tend to call ahead to get on the list / get in line (*not a reservation*) before I drive over which helps smooth the process. Stylists are usually quick to get on and off the phone when I call which is also nice when I'm getting my hair cut. I was bummed once when I called and there wasn't a wait, but when I got there 15 minutes later three people showed up. Oh well - waits tend to be 30 minutes if you choose not to go during peak times. They have pool, magazines, and places to walk to if you get bored. I've had three different people cut my hair and I liked them all. Most stylists seem chatty and some are quiet, like me, which also works - they have a good mix of personalities working there. They're receptive when I tell them what I want and are gentle with hair brushes. Their scissors seem like decent quality too, unlike some other places around... Update: Apparently some stylists do bridal hair too! My trial frenchbraid turned out awesome and the styling didn't break my hair.

I forgot the lady who cut my hair last night but she exceeded my expectations. Right away she was very pleasant and nice. We talked over what type of haircut style and length I wanted and that is what I got. She was able to carry conversation and cut my hair, all within 30 minutes. I would recommend to any guy looking for a haircut in the area.

Good haircuts and friendly stylists. However, the hugely varying wait times and no appointments allowed is a minus. The usually only have 1 or 2 stylists there, so I've stopped by and been told there is a 2 hour wait. Really? This location is one of the better Cutting Group locations, I've been pleased with my haircut every time I've been. I'm on my 5th cut in about 10 months. However, the price is a little high; I usually pay $30 after tip, so I am thinking about trying alternatives around there. I will pay more for friendly service though, and this place has that going for it.

Cutting Group on the East Side is a great place to go if you're looking for high quality haircuts with good conversation. I've received all of my cuts by Nicole -- she's been friendly and precise, and her haircuts are always tidy. She also helped me find hair products that I didn't even know existed, and now it's part of my daily routine. 5/5

Great atmosphere, can get in and out without too much fuss. Price includes hair wash and conditioner, along with cut and style. Many places charge more for less. Plus easy to get too. Only complaint was wished they had shaved down little hairs on back of neck. Noticed those when got home. Shaved them myself. It'd be a nice touch for the ladies to finish out. Other than that was happy with cut will be back.

I never write google reviews ever but I have to for this place. For Emmy actually. This woman is fantastic. A few have been able to cut my hair correctly so I was a bit nervous going into a new place. She did an incredible job and absolutely nailed it. Will be going back for sure! Thank you so much :) On top of that the women working there are all very chatty / funny. Loved the overall atmosphere!

Most professional and friendly staff I have encountered in the industry. The new management has reinvigorated this location. I received the best haircut of my life in August of 2020. Highly recommend scheduling your next haircut, style, or color with Nicole.

I had a wonderful experience at this location and this was my first time! You should know ahead of time that they don't accept appointments, but it is well worth the wait. When I arrived, I put my name on a waiting list and was given an approximate wait time. I was allowed to leave and come back if I wanted, but there were plenty of magazines, pool, and darts to occupy my time if I chose. When I sat down, I told Hannah what I needed and asked if it could be accomplished within a time frame as I was running a bit shorter on time than I anticipated. Not only did she do a fantastic job on my hair (and there was a lot of it), she did it with time to spare! I'll definitely be coming back. The stylists really helped me feel relaxed, I got a great cut, and at a great price.

I came in needing a hair cut that would take longer than 1 hours. The stylist was awesome and took her time on me regardless of how long it would be. She was knowledgeable about the cut that I wanted and managed my expectations appropriately (got an undercut, but my neck is much longer and curved compared to the pics on pinterest). My schedule is erratic with a full time job and serving side job, so it's great that I don't need to schedule ahead. Wish I would have gotten my stylist name (Diaz maybe?)

Mekenna was my stylist, and I only hesitate to write this review because I don't want the entire east side of Milwaukee flocking to get in her chair. It was a bit of a wait to get in there - I was told it would be 1 and a half hours, but really it wound up being more like 2 before I was sat. Even that won't stop me from giving her 5 stars, though!!! I got a ton of hair taken off, which I thought would be traumatic because I don't often get haircuts. She was absolutely supportive, and made a massive effort to get in tune with everything that I wanted. SO detail oriented, so so knowledgeable. I'm also not one to really make conversation with people when I'm in the chair, but she is very bubbly, very sweet, and is enthusiastic about her job - and it shows! I was chatting it up with her the whole time effortlessly. We did a big reveal, and I was pretty stunned. I have yet to find one single flaw. I loved the experience, and it was an absolute STEAL for $22! I'll be back again, and she's absolutely going to be the one I visit. I'm not scared of haircuts anymore!

The angry reviewer is definitely the exception. Everyone at Cutting Group is professionally trained and has always been really nice to me. Maybe since I'm not some screaming harpy trying to tell a professional how to do their job, they afford me the same respect. I won't get my haircut anywhere else, yes frequently you'll have to wait as there are no appointments. Go in there armed with that knowledge, manage your expectations, and remember that it is conveniently located adjacent to several wonderful bars where you can wait with a cocktail.

Walked in for the first time a couple of days ago. Great experience with Allie. She was very professional and gave me a great cut. She noticed my Star Wars tattoos and we nerded out for a while. Will definitely return and suggest you check it out. Also they give discounts if you return within 30 days. Bottom line - great location, great staff, great experience.

I've been getting my haircut there for a year. I'm happy with the results and friendly and professional stylists. Sometimes there is a waiting list, but you can sign in and come back. Where else can you find vintage comic books to pass the time?

I went last night for the first time and I don't think I'll ever be going anywhere else. I'll be honest, wasn't used to the 1hr and 45min wait but Colectivo is next door so suck it up because you're about to have the best haircut for a ridiculously cheap price. Shout out to Sage for taking the time to really work with me on what I wanted when I meant "shorter". This is the shortest my hair has been since 8th grade and I had always kept it long after a traumatically terrible short cut haha. I am so in love, I can't express how confident and amazing I feel. I can't wait to come back in 8 weeks to have Sage fix it up again and keep this amazing cut she did for me. I will recommend this place to everyone!!!!

Got my hair cut by Kia (sp?) today and had a wonderful experience. Great for college students or anyone else on a low budget who's too scared to walk into Cost Cutters-- and the skill of the hairdressers is definitely not compromised by the cost.

The haircuts I get here all the time are fabulous. This is a talking-friendly zone as well as fairly priced for the quality you get. The only downward is the waiting time. Still, you can sign in and come back when it is your turn (time is provided when checking in), though have never been accurate xD

Yeah there's a long wait but just go have a beer across the street or something. And once you get your hair cut they take care of you 100%. Very professional and well-trained staff. Cute girls there too.
