Reviews of Kempsville Greens Golf Club
Alex Helmer
Better than Red Wing Lake, but still not great. Seems apparent the muni courses here place ZERO emphasis on maintenance. There were a lot of greens with weeds and bare spots, some of them were straight up unplayable. Several of the tee boxes were nothing but dirt. Fairways were just about the only overall bright spot. 3 stars for the layout and cheap greens fees. Do better VB!!!
Erik Boyd
Good value. Greens were in good condition (par 3's have taken a beating) and the fairways are in good shape. The tee boxes are in need of some repairs from heavy use leaving ridges and troughs. Avoid sunrise tee times on the first 3 holes you're playing into the sun. The course is short and three par 3's in a row isn't the greatest but the condition vs price would is hard to beat.
Darryl Royer
Fun course. The grass was pretty dead except for the greens. No real distinction between fairway and rough.
william hughes
Very nice course. Play there often. Challenging holes, plenty of water. A couple of greens need work.
Aaron Ward
It's a golf course. It would be better if the locals that play on it would be more curtious. They could pick up their own trash and fix their divots.
Also, if the front nine is packed don't expect to hop on #10 to play just the back 9. That's a NoNo there.

I love Kempsville Greens..... Always very clean, the carts are highly sufficient the course is well maintained, the staff is friendly.... My favorite of the 4va beach golf courses I've been too. It's a very nice 18 to do coming in to the city.... Good luck... Even with the frost on the course this morning it looks amazing..,... Thought it would warm up today but no go... Damn you winter.
J Jamison
Always a nice experience. Friendly staff, well stocked pro shop, good practice facilities and lessons available.
Daniel Costello
Fabulous pristine world class greens. A clubhouse clad in astuteness, with a hint of beer breath. And the shimmering lake at 18?? Kempsville greens...A legendary golf experience.
rick brower
Nice course had a lot of fun

Course layout is WIDE open so plenty of room to spray the driver and still be ok. Wasn't in good shape but for the price of 20 bucks it wasnt expected to be good. The course definitely was crowded but playing as foursome we moved at a good place. My only complaint was the starter was very unprofessional by yelling and cursing at my group thinking we didn't have a tee time in which we did. The range is also limited to irons and is like hitting in a goat ranch. Overall the people I played with made it a good time I'd play again but not pay more than $25

My father and I have played twice now and both experiences were great. They had the course in pretty good shape for the middle of December. The staff was welcoming and helpful on both occasions and even with the "light" membership, we have been made to feel that our experience and patronage is important to them. We will keep coming back. Thank you, Kempsville Greens!

The course could use some better upkeep, and the holes feel a little crowded with no elbow room between each other. It feels like you’re always watching out for someone potentially hitting you from another hole. Markers and signs are minimally placed, and the greens could use some better attention as well. But the staff is friendly and prices are fair for what it is, so I guess you get what you pay for.

Decent course. Nice layout. Conditions are fair. Of course I am reviewing in late December. The front 9 is fairly open and the back tightens up with house in play. Not the worst in VA Beach and not the best. The staff was friendly and works to get you out. I'll be back!

Lots of value to be had with this course. I’m a member and walking the course presents a great opportunity to de-stress and enjoy the outdoors.
Conditions Vs price for the summer are always great. Traditional, short, but worth the money almost every time.
Sure, there’s better quality courses but this is a great tune up or every-day course. Staff is friendly and accommodating for such a high trafficked course.
4 stars because the folks who play here aren’t always conscious of the etiquette on greens in repairing ball marks or keeping greens in great shape. The staff does the best they can, which is worth 4 stars!
william Harris
Golf there is always pleasant and fun but there greens are having some problems with the weather
Kevin Harris
I would give this 5 stars but for the fact the greens can get a bit cut up because the golfers don't know how to fix the divots and some of the tees are questionable. Opening couple of holes are tricky, with narrow fairways and water. I do enjoy playing here and the staff are friendly and helpful.
Ryan Odenkirk
Very enjoyable experience, clubhouse workers were extremely friendly, Marshall kept good pace , 18 holes in 3 hours walking in a three some, great layout, very interesting holes, certain aspects of the course itself could be maintained better (greens, tee boxes) would play again!

This historically significant golf course in the heart of Virginia Beach has been through decades of players like myself and still, to this day, keeps looking great, playing well, and challenging my game to be more focused, targeted and patient. I've enjoyed this course for as long as I've lived here (1978) and look forward to another few more decades of play.

Fun course but they have some issues which I will address here but even though the issues are there I still go here at least once a week to either practice or play. First of all pace of play can get pretty slow. A lot of golfers walk here so be prepared to go well over 4 hours for 18. The back 9 does clear up because most people are playing 9. Golf carts work great. They need to address their greens and bunkers. Bu kers are stiff and not taken care of. Greens are a little rougher than they should be even this time of year. I do belive the staff is doing their best but they just need whoever is in charge to put more money into the upkeep. The fairway grass is a little thin and even the best place shot can put you in a tight lie (thin shots abound). All in all this is a fun course with plenty of water to avoid (or like me go right into) I recommend going here for sure as the back 9 is really fun.
Helen Robertson
Really welcoming and friendly pro shop!

Had a great time everyone was very friendly 😊 …

Great value for the price! The greens were good in some spots and bit bumpy in others. It looked better than I have seen it in years. For a course below $30 I think it was great thanks!
Ernest Pohrte
With all the water on the course maybe they they should call it Kempsville Lakes. First time playing here thought it was a good course could use a little course maintance, but overall in good shape for the fall.
Sherry Uribe
I LOVE THIS GOLF COURSE! My husband and I have never been disappointed! The greens are immaculate, the staff is friendly and helpful and Mike Fentress (PGA) Manager, is AWESOME! The tee-times are generous and make for a fun and relaxing day outside chasing the elusive par! Lessons are available from golf pro Laura Holmes Landon (PGA). With the Pro Shop, Snack Bar, Putting, Chipping and Driving ranges...Kempsville Greens Golf Club has everything you need to enjoy (and improve) your game!

Very affordable place. I enjoy walking here after work. The staff is great and helpful - You do get some dummies on the course, but that happens at a public course.
Ed Bochert
Joined the club through a promotial post card that was mailed to my house. I called and Mike answered the phone. He was a real pro describing what the cost and benefits of belonging to this club will be to me for the next three years. I quickly drove to the club and Mike took care of my joining. Mike, is a great asset to kempsville greens. I approve this ad. Thanks again mike!
steven davis
The course is in pretty rough shape, but they keep it affordable therefore it gets played a lot. It's still fun, has a decent layout with a lot of trouble...bring more balls than usual

Amazing deal. Grounds were a little bumpy and rough, but I attribute that to playing in the winter on a busy course.

Hello, if you paid $19 as I paid, the price is correct for the quality of the land at this time of year. This course is a bit like a golf course in Quebec at the start of a season. There was no greenery on the land and this land is a low cost municipal land. (March 31, 2019)
