Reviews of Tapawingo National Golf Club
Very nice clubhouse. Affordable food on the turn. Course is in great shape, very scenic. Highly recommend .
Wow! Chris and the entire Tapawingo team gave us the most magical evening for our wedding ceremony and reception. The staff was so friendly and helpful, Chris was there supporting us in whatever we needed, the food was AMAZING (even better than when we did the tastings), I could go on and on about the wonderful experience we had there. They went above and beyond and we're so appreciative. I would highly recommend considering them when planning your event!
Beautiful course . Maintained very well and in pretty good shape given the weather we have had in the st louis region this summer .
The greens were in great shape albeit almost an artificial color of green like they painted them or something.
Very challenging course . I cant tell you how many golf balls I lost . My own fault with errant shots but make sure you have plenty of golf balls .
We played the Woodlands and the prairies courses. The prairies was probably my favorite of the two . It was a little more forgiving because it was more open .
Will definitely be back here again
Great course, fun variation and we were able to play all 27 holes.
You will see really mixed reviews here. I can understand this and hopefully help you to as well. We played Merrimac and Prairie. Most of the course lies in a valley with a small river and there is a stream as well. In the spring, if it rains a lot and the river rises, some holes will get flooded. Things will be silted and mushy. Then when the heat comes it will back pretty firm. Fairways we're good when we played. Rough somewhat thin but you could understand that even with burmuda grass, some areas of the rough would be baked dirt. But our conditions were very good. Greens were a bit slow but that was understandable due to prolonged heat. Traps were etched but the sand somewhat crusty. I liked the design with the exception of Prairie number one which should be plowed under. Looking at the scorecard, i chose to play the gold's at 6200. They were not that long and most of the gold's were actually the blue tee location. I felt the course favored a fade. I didn't find it narrow at all. Not much shade but water to drink about every third hole. Can't speak about pace as we played on a Monday on 96° temperature so it wasn't busy. Lower rate for seniors. flooded. coursit. That's going to leave some silt
The course is beautiful. It’s challenging enough while still being playable. However, paying a more premium rate in the area I thought the pace of play would factor into that as well. We sat at every tee box for 10-15 minutes waiting for our turn. The people in front of us were waiting as were the players behind us all at the same tee box. It was frustrating enough to consider not going back. They even switched us to a different back 9 course because the people we were behind took over 3 hours to play their first 9 holes and they didn’t want us to have to wait on them.. just to have us wait on different people. Just don’t go here unless you’re ok with a very slow pace of play.
Beautiful course. It is flooded in my pictures. Normally it's not an entire course of water traps. This is during the flood of May and June 2019.
I highly recommend for weddings. Everyone is still talking about the quality of food. The servers were so kind. Chris and Jill are amazing.
Great golf course. Greens and fairways were in excellent condition considering the heat we have had this summer. Always love playing at Tapwingo
Very beautiful golf course (27 holes) by the Black Knight (Gary Player). Not very long but tight. Shot making and club selection are important. Great view of Missouri hills and Meramec river.
Course is fantastic. The view is amazing on many of the holes. Elevation changes are daunting and beautiful at the same time. Most picturesque course I've played in the STL region and I've played a lot of them.
Went to a wedding and reception at this venue. It was an enjoyable experience - the food was great and it was a really clean place. I have two beefs, though - the temperature inside varied greatly from room to room. I was sweating in the reception area and freezing in the dining room. The bartenders wanted to control the drinks in that you couldn't have a liquor straight or on ice unless it was mixed somehow. But they had a 12 year scotch - no one mixes a great scotch like that! They had amaretto and said it was against the rules to serve it over ice. C'mon, I don't know who makes rules like that.
Otherwise it was very nice and a bonus was that it was less than a mile from my house! One star off, though, for the liquor restrictions.
Amazing course! Loved the par 3 in my photo.
(I got a Birdie, after my 1st shot...)
My husband and I had our ceremony and reception at Tapawingo Golf club on 9/26/2020. Everything was PERFECT! I cannot say enough good things about this place and Chris, the banquet manager. He is extremely easy to work with and accommodating. All of our guests had a great time and everyone enjoyed the food. I'd do it all over again here!
We had our reunion ion there and the venue was fantastic. I would recommend holding an event there.
It was beautiful, the food, drinks and service were all great. Loved it. Thanks to all! A friend invited me and it was a great Easter Brunch.
I was a guest here for a wedding reception. Great venue, fabulous food, ample parking but most importantly was the wonderful, happy, helpful staff! The outdoor patio was a great perk off the dance floor to host a cocktail hour or step away from the party.
The course layout is great, but due to spring flooding much of the course remains in rough shape. Course should be offering some discounts for play under current conditions or at least telling people before booking. All of the bunkers are not playable and did not appear to have been ranked in a long time. The greens are very slow and covering is pitch marks. One par 5 was converted to 150 yrs par 3 due to fairway repair.
excellent banquet facilities first class golf course
We had our wedding reception here on a Sunday and we couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. It was absolutely gorgeous, down to every last detail and the beautiful sunset out the wall of windows. They even let us customize everything we could and still get compliments on the food. This is the absolute best value for our money we could've found and we had a blast. The staff is so kind and attentive and working with Chris made things very easy.
We had our reception at Tapawingo two weeks ago and it was honestly perfect! If I could give Tapawingo more than a 5 star I would! Chris and Jill made planning my wedding reception not only easy, but fun. I loved that I could get everything done at the venue- food, drinks, photo booth and decor all in one place which makes planning hassle free. Jill worked with me to create the perfect look I was going for and she nailed it! The table cloths, center pieces candles, were exactly what I wanted! I got so many compliments on our reception! Guests said it was the best food, and open bar they have ever had at a wedding- everyone loved having the late night pizzas too!
If you are considering Tapawingo for your wedding, I highly recommend it- you won't regret it! Thank you Tapawingo for all your hard work and for making my reception everything I could have hoped for, and memories that will last a lifetime!
First time playing it, and my only complaint is that it has ruined a lot of courses for me. Great staff, impeccable course, not for the faint of heart, but a fun challenge as opposed to frustrating. The food after the round was awesome, as well. It's a little steep for me to go all the time, but I will be back next time I feel like splurging on an expensive course.
This is a great STL public golf course. It is higher priced than most other public courses in the area, but it's well maintained, great staff, and pace of play has always been solid.
Good greens with a challenging 27 hole layout. Some of the holes can go underwater when the river runs high. This leads to some very spotty fairways in low areas. The prices are a little steep when compared to other courses in the area with comparable playing conditions. The pace of play generally has not been a problem.
Just had my wedding here, 3/10/2018. It was amazing! I can’t say enough good things about this place! The service, was beyond excellent. Chris the manager, he is spectacular! I don’t think my wedding could have been any better! The fact that we had our wedding planned for July, then a life even happened(a baby), causing us to move the wedding up, he was so good with working with the big change, even though we already put a deposit down! I recommend this place, for weddings, and any other events that they hold. I got to meet Joe Barcadi himself and his wife of 53 years! They are just amazing people, very down to earth and friendly. I could go on and on about them. You guys will have to see for yourself!
Thanks so much Chris and the Bacardi’s for making my wife and I’s wedding, very memorable!
Although the place is very nice, I was not happy with the service. I asked one server lady for something and she said she only worked there but didn't know anything. The package that we ordered and paid for said we should get OJ and hot tea. That was not on the buffet. The tables were set up not the best way so we had to rearrange ourselves. The manger has about as much personality as a dead fly. There was only one lady who was super sweet. We had my daughter's bridal shower here and you expect over the top. Not over the top service that's for sure.
I'm sure management of this place does a good job with what they have, but this is the worst-routed golf course I've ever seen. It’s pure goofy golf.
Seriously, it's amateur hour – dogleg par fours that dogleg at 160 yards off the tee, power lines everywhere, pointless forced carries with no strategic elements to them, a public street (!) bisecting the approach of a par four. There are a couple of holes on the flat part of the course where the better play off the tee is the “wrong” side of a lake into another hole’s fairway. Not to mention every other year they have to close 8-10 holes due to flooding.
I love Gary Player as a human being, but the man cannot design his way out of a paper bag.
Played May 12, 2015 on the Woodland/Prairie combo. Expected a whole lot more. Course could use some maintenance, like weed killer in the fairways, to command $60 for 18. A GPS in the cart or sprinkler heads with yardage would also make playing there again worth it. Good layout with nice elevation changes. However, several beat up tee boxes took away from the experience. Don't let Player come back to see how the course is being maintained. Staff was cordial even when the Ranger politely asked me to return the cart to the path since it was cart past only on the entire course, not just the holes with signage indicating so. Too bad he couldn't tell that 3-some ahead of the single (me) to let the single, who was riding their asses for 8 holes, play through. A couple of 2-some behind me game up.
I don't play golf, but as a venue this is a beautiful one with fantastic views and great food! They used to do live music on Friday nights in the summer and was sad to hear they no longer do that as it was such fun! It is a great venue for rehearsal dinners!
To be fair, Tapawingo is still recovering from the floods of earlier this year. For the price to play here I expected better fairways and greens. The course and setting is beautiful and I would like to think before the floods effected parts of the course it was pristine.
I am not saying the course is in bad shape, but expect fairway grass with some bare areas and sand bunkers still needing work. The course is laid out nicely and there are some challenging holes. All in all I think it is a little pricey till they get it back into prior flood damage shape.
It wasn't so long ago that this course was considered a premium course in the St. Louis area. Sadly that is no longer the case. They have had their run of bad luck over the past couple of seasons with flooding. But so have several other courses (Crystal Springs Quarry, Aberdeen, etc.). The difference is those courses are back to pre-flood conditioning. Tapawingo has greens that are bare in spots and rough that is overgrown and unevenly mowed. Don't get me wrong. The layout of the course makes it an interesting round and the staff was friendly. The course is just over-priced for the average public course that it has become.
The course is in great shape! I love the views, very aesthetically pleasing. With 27 holes and friendly staff you couldn't ask for much more. My favorite course in STL
Great layouts, for the area best public course out there. Prices reasonable and great pace of play.
In a beautiful area! The Woodlands course is in rough shape right now especially the greens but the fairways are beautiful. Kind of a hokey 9 though, seems like it was added as an afterthought. A number of holes are either super short or inordinately unforgiving; lots of elevation change which doesn't add to the beauty or fun of the holes.
The Prairie course has two kind of bizarre holes to start with but is otherwise a beautiful and professional level course. Ditto for the Meramec course.
First time playing Tapawingo. Course was challenging and very beautiful. Winter rate was just okay but probably in line. I will definitely want to play there again.
Course is unbelievable. Good condition, and as challenging as you care to make it. 27 holes of pure golfing. Food is absolutely outstanding. Beer is cold. Service is impeccable.
Such a lovely location for our church volunteer banquet. Delicious food, wonderful service. Thanks again, see you next year!
Great golf course design with many different beautiful golf landscape views, challenging and fair green fee rate for the well maintain conditions
Best public course in the St. Louis area. Significantly better than Gateway National and it's more reasonably priced. Challenging but fair, greens are true.
An excellent public course. Flooding caused some minor damage, this course is challenging yet fun. Put that driver away on a few of the short par 4s and a couple doglegs.
The course was beautiful and challenging. The club staff and facilities were great. I can't wait to play here again.
Beautiful wedding, stress free. Chris and his staff was the BEST. Food was fantastic, could not have asked for a better wedding outcome. I loved everything
Great golf course. Amazing facilities. Well maintained course with three 9 hole courses.
I just had my wedding here this past weekend and it was amazing. Chris was attentive and answered all my questions. The food was great, the service was great, I have nothing but great things to say. I could go on and on.
Great place to spend a day outdoors
Course is in excellent shape overall. Golfers need to be reminded to repair divots. Also, showing where to enter a sand trap would keep the sides from collapsing.
Great, beautifully laid out course; well worth playing even on Saturday. Excellent surroundings and in perfect shape! Thanks for the great experience.
Had our rehearsal dinner there tonight, Chris made sure everything was perfect. 5 stars for Chris and all of his hard work making sure everyone was happy.
Slow play on the back nine was the only issue. I really enjoy playing the course.
Haven't played there for awhile. Great layout. In good shape. Pricey but worth a round or 2 per year
Clubhouse is great. Greens were beat up. One was half roped off. Proshop made us play the Blue tees instead of the whites.
Went to a wedding reception there last night. Great staff and the good was amazing. I would highly recommend
They are very proud of this property. Greens are very bumpy. Even so, I enjoyed the course.
Nice course but the greens need some help. But what do I know? I suck at golf. Like Happy Gilmore in his early days....without the drive.
We had such a great time at this beautiful course! The staff and the people we were paired with were very friendly!!!
Beautiful places to golf I loved the scenery and everything about it it's a nice course.
Beautiful golf course. Fantastic views. Great lay out!
Beautiful place, we were there for a reception, food was excellent, staff was amazing. Very pleased with our experience.
One of the best courses in STL!
Well worth the price for a well maintained course with some great views!
Golf....aaaaaagghhhh! Great course, though. Played 9 of Woodlands and 9 of Meramec. Well kept even on a wet day.
Very nice course, with fast greens. Great clubhouse with food.
Amazing golf course. Beautiful and fun. Can't wait to play again.
Fairways in good shape, greens were a bit fuzzy but we had big fun!
$60 for 18 holes on Saturday in mid August, this course was fantastic!
Course was in rough shape ( greens and fairways) but still a nice layout
It was a blast great time with family and friends..
Congratulations to my nephew and his new bride.
Beautiful golf course and banquet center at clubhouse.
Great course, especially the woodlands 9. Sad that some of it is flooded now and will take awhile to fix
Wonderful wedding reception venue, beautiful. Delicious food and great atmosphere.
Beautiful venue, even more beautiful grounds. It is VERY hard to find via GPS.
Impressive venue for a wedding reception. Really good food. Great staff.
Very nice banquet facility ... I highly recommend this place to all my friends & family.
