Reviews of River Oaks Golf Course
Great challenging course I was fortunate to find on short notice and walked on. Tight fairways and big wind make this relatively short course a challenge with a premium on tee shot accuracy. Very friendly staff chatted me up and mentioned he was visiting the west valley in Arizona and I recommended a few golf courses for him to play. Par 70 course gave me a run for my money and I will be back to play again!
The course is quite fabulous but the Club House gentleman make this course 5 stars! I've golfed here 10+ times and purchased apparel and the guys there are usually just so pleasant and fabulous. We are a group of 3, sometimes 4 women, and they don't shy away from our patronage. I always leave feeling welcome and like we belong.
The course, also in fabulous shape. For it's location, they do an epic job on the fairways, tee boxes and greens. We golf many courses just to try, but I always come back to this one. Oh- if you don't hit straight, you'll lose 2 or 12 balls... but that's the lovely game, isn't it?
Absolutely love this challenging course, if you love hitting your irons this is your course. The pro shop is always stocked with great unique gear, the staff is friendly and accommodating. Lastly, I played there this morning and the greens crew have the course dialed in right now! Kudos River Oaks team it’s always a treat.
This was a golf course I have never been to before today. Would and will recommend to everyone! ⛳
This was the most stunning mini golf course I'd ever seen. The course was surrounded by blooming honeysuckle arches, flowering cherry trees, and lovely water features. Everything was clean and in good working order.
This is a very very nice course! The landscaping is beautiful and the club house is cute. It is not upscale, but it is very pretty. The electrical buzzing was interesting. Would definitely be back!
In good shape with a good mix of fun and challenging holes that require each club in your bag. Not a very long course from the tips, but requires good course management
It's a tough course you gotta bring your A game and a lot of golf ball🤙🏽 …
GREAT customer service. Very friendly, relaxed and reasonable with customers. Sadly can't say the same about other public courses. They have GREAT deals available for range balls if you like to practice like I do. Awesome instructors, Ryan Holt is amazing HIGHLY recommend! And the course is awesome! Not too hard, not too easy. All around 5 starts for River Oaks!!
Course is interesting and pretty well kept, but don’t book as a single here. Twice in a row the clubhouse failed to inform the group I was with that a single would be joining them, and they went ahead and tees off before me, several minutes before scheduled time. Both times I was forced to try to play up with the scheduled group and they wouldn’t clear the first fairway.
Not returning as a single here
Little wet but always an enjoyable course. Don't let the distance fool you
9 holes with cart on a Sunday was $25. This is a very well-maintained muni. There is a practice putting green but i think you have to drive or take a cart to the range. I was impressed.
The only real downer is the power lines--they are huge and everywhere. You can actually hear them buzzing on several of the tee boxes!
I played River Oaks for the first time, and after not having picked up a club for a month. I definitely wouldn't recommend that, because it's a tough course that takes knowledge and precision. I think you'd need four times around it to know lines and a bit more about the greens.
Very nice people working there though . . . from pro shop to the grill / snack bar. I think for 2022 I'll join this course's men's association and move my UGA handicap card here. Great practice facilities too!
I do have a few reasons for my four-star rating instead of five. First, there were too many bad lies after drives that were in the fairway, so they really need to work on filling in some thin spots. Second, way too many unrepaired ballmarks on greens. I fixed a minimum of 3-4 per hole, and most of the time I absolutely had to in order to have a clean putt. Make people fix them, use staff to do it, or offer players a discounted / free round if they'll stick around for an hour or two after their rounds to go fix ballmarks. Third -- the hard-ground bunkers. I know there was some weather yesterday, so maybe it was just overly "wet" conditions, but I didn't find that I could play a traditional greenside "blast" shot with an open face / hitting an inch or inch-and-a-half behind the ball. Bounced right into ball. 😡
Pretty fun and kinda easy course....got a birdie and a bunch of pars! Will definitely play here again.
Of course is in great shape. Wish my playing partner didn't want to Sprint a marathon for 18. Would have been nice to enjoy a fantastic morning on a great course
I don’t really like the course and it feels like they will put any walk-on on the front 9 and it doesn’t matter how fast I play I’m always pushing someone and I’m always being pushed and hit into. If you play the back it can be fun. All OBs are either reeds or water so bring your A game.
Had a 6:10 tee time. lost track of time and showed up at 6:20 club house was closed. Guy in charge came out and said sorry he was nice about it, then he let us walk it for FREE. He didn't have to do that but I'm a customer for life now. I appreciate great service.
P.S. the KSL CUP you hosted last week was an awesome time. Looking forward to next year!
This is a tough course! At least for me...I have lost a ball on every hole. Doesn't say much for me, but there are weeds all throughout this course if you do not stay in the fairway you will lose balls! Not for beginners looking to have fun, it can get frustrating. But if you are trying to challenge yourself and your golf game then bring plenty of balls!
The greens are amazing the fairways are in great shape! It's a beautiful course beautiful scenery if you can hit him straight this course is for you.
Course was in great shape. Some of the tightest fairways on public courses in the valley! Recommended!
This is my go to course being so close to my home.
Just wish it was in better shape.
course is always green and has the potential of playing slow but somehow they manage slow play very good. Course Marshall is something all courses need. would have gave 5stars if they had colored flags for front middle and back locations.
Always love how I can go as a single and they get me out without needing a tree time. Those is one of my favorite courses in the valley too.
Always in great shape. Play to the 150 yard marker on every hole and it makes the fairways wider. Risk reward shots to be had, if you have the skills. Largest soft goods selection outside a box store. Go during the winter for deep discounts on clubs, shoes and apparel.
Always a fun course, condition could use some improvement, sure I’ll get back later in the season and can update.
Played this course for the first time yesterday. Scored badly but really loved it. Beautiful layout, every hole distinctly different and nicely aligned with features of the land. Fastest greens I've ever played on (which is why I got a high score). Short holes but tough greens and some narrow fairways, making the course a real challenge. Very good management.
Good course. Very hard, if you spray balls around, you better bring more than a sleeve. If you hit fairly consistent, youll have fun here. Greens are usually decent too. As another reviewer posted, it is kinda odd to me that the grounds team is still mowing nearly until 11-12 sometimes. But I have never had them be rude or not run machines while they are near me so I dont think they are rude in any way.
Fantastic course. Back 9 is arguably one of the most enjoyable back 9 you'll play in the valley. The only reason for the 3 stars is I tend to agree with the comments about the staff. They're not that organized. I've been there when they are a half hour late in opening the course, tee times are screwy, etc. BUT, as a course it is excellent and is a blast to play.
I was there on Monday night as well. The North Range shop DID NOT close at 7:30 it closed at 8:00pm.
Course is challenging and well taken care of. My only reason for reducing one star is how they stacked tee times. We went up to tee at 12:10 on a Friday and already had 3 groups behind us waiting! My friend and I paired up with another 2 guys just to move it through quicker. I understand people have tee times, but I felt rushed the entire time.
River Oaks is a fun challenge. If you are hitting your drives accurately, it's a lot of fun. If you are not hitting them straight, be prepared to loose a few balls. My favorite holes on the course are #'s 1, 4, 5, 7, 10, 11, 14, 16, 17. This courses is a fairly easy one to walk.
Great course if you can hit the ball where you want it to go. I enjoyed the challenge of it. If you golf like me you just need a couple extra sleeves of balls.
Have played there quite often. It's a good course. Not long, but accuracy is very important. On some holes, even if you land in the middle of the fairway, unless you hit a high ball off the tee, it may well roll off into some hazardous situations. Number 1 hole is a good example. But all in all, it is a good course.
Another good thing about this course, maybe even one of the better things, is that nearly all of the staff there are good friendly people.
This is a super fun range. It is very winding and has holes of various distances and with various challenges to keep it interesting. We unknowingly stayed clear past closing time and we were allowed to continue playing up until the carts needed to be returned, upon which we were kindly requested to be finished. Only reason I do not give 5 stars is because it is close to many houses and the noise is distracting.
Fun course, challenging to stay on the fairways, greems are nice well kept. This course is unforgiving if you slice or hook. Great course to to work on your accuracy. Love playing here.
Great place for events, weddings, company parties and so on
Went there today for the first time since moving back to Utah. I arrived at 830-ish and was not allowed to tee off until 9:30 because of frost which is what it is I suppose. I have played other courses that allowed you to tee off with some dew on the course but not so much here. I really enjoyed the course it was shorter than I thought but challenging because of the narrow fairways. I was the first one out as a single so I was playing rather quickly and made the turn in just over an hour. Number 7 hole wasn't punched nor did it have a flag anywhere to be found. After teeing off on Nine they were cutting the fairways and green. Well the fairway mower decided that he didn't care I was standing over my ball and drove past me several times getting closer and closer. The green mower turned off his engine until I finished putting which is normal. So I finished my round and went into the clubhouse to let the guy Shawn I believe what happened. He didn't apologize but made excuses for the mowers actions. He said "Well it is a city owned course and we cant start mowing until 7 so he was just trying to get his job done before the crowd starts coming in". I responded that I know he has to get his job done but I was 8 plus holes a head of the twosome behind me he could have stopped and turned off his engine for 5 seconds. His rebuttal was " well that's probably not going to happen at a city owned course and we can't stop for everyone that is going to hit" I responded I understand that but in this particular situation it wouldn't have hurt because I was so far ahead. His response was " like I said its a city owned course so probably not going to happen". Almost forgot after hitting my tee-shot on 10 there was a grounds-man on the green taking is sweet time to move the pin. I waited 5 minutes for that to happen. That might explain why they didn't have too many people out playing because of that exact mentality.... just cause its a city owned course doesn't mean you should lack golf etiquette. 3 Stars cause the course was in decent shape...
Fun but challenging target golf course, especially the front nine. Greens are immaculate. Can only book online and must prepay to get a tee time during Covid.
People at the pro shop are extremely friendly. I was solo, but was paired up with a couple of guys that were definitely better than me but they didn't mind waiting on me to play. Keep the ball straight tho! Unforgiving course!
I think this is a fan course to play. Super easy to access (just by I-15 9000 South exit), maintained well, a lot of natural obstaclesand each holes are different and interesting. Greens are fair except some greens on back 9 are in bad shape (patchy/disease).
I use the North side driving range/practice green often. $200/40 large bucket is a great deal except they fill the bucket so low. I have to ask them to make it fair (ask fill more .. sigh).
The practice greens (North and South) are in great condition. They are doing awesome job to keep them in great shape.
Excellent course. Really beautifully maintained. A friendly staff who were helpful. Fantastic value you price. A solid difficulty! I would highly recommend the course.
Nice links course along a pretty section of the Jordan River. It's a good test with some narrower fairways that can make things fun and interesting. Enjoyed this place a lot in late fall, would recommend.
I attended a wedding reception there. It was absolutely beautiful. The one tiny drawback was that it smelled a little swampy when you go close to the water. There is plenty of parking too, which is really nice. My friend raved about how easy it was to have a reception there. She said they do everything!
Home course for me. My dad and I play this course regularly. Challenging and tight, excellent greens. Awesome hole designs. You get everything when you play here, minus the outrageous green fees. Reasonably priced.
Played here for the first time today (Late October). We were delayed from teeing off for about 45 minutes due to frost on the greens. Nothing they could do about that. Pace of play for the most part was slow but not too bad.
The course itself was in good shape, the greens were very fast and the fairways on the front 9 are quite narrow. You need to hit the ball straight (which I don’t) or you will lose a lot of balls (which I did). The back 9 opens up more so you felt like you could use the “Big Dog”.
I enjoyed playing this course and will be back to try my luck again (when I want to lose some balls).
The course is in great shape, betters greens will not be found in Salt Lake County. Great staff as well
Attended a scramble here during a corporate event. Facility was top notch!
One of the most fun courses in the valley. Just make sure to bring a few extra balls because there are a number of holes where an errant drive will land you somewhere it can't be found in a reasonable time. The course is beautiful and well-kept.
Greens were in excellent condition and the course played very well! Gentleman in the pro shop very nice! If it's a 90° rule day, follow the rules they tell U that for a reason! Don't be a tool!!!!
I am not a golf fanatic, but I enjoy playing several times over the summer. River Oaks is a nice quiet course with a wide variety of terrain. It is in the Jordan River Bottom so you have some water to add some fun. Some holes are wide open, others carved into the scrub oak. Great course, good design, and NOT closed as some yahoo posted...duh! We live in Utah where it snows in the winter so all courses are going to be closed for a few months from fall to spring.
This course is tough but awesome. The grounds crew are too be commended.
Great course , variety of holes that makes it fun to play over and over. Friendliest staff of all the club houses. Wife and I drive 40 miles to play it, our favorite place to play.
I love this course. The fairways are tight and the greens well protected. Make sure to have a lot of balls if you are erratic.
I Think its a great course, the staff works great with our league, Matt is very helpful.
we golf there every year.
And Lori in the café will do anything to help you. Thanks River Oaks.
Challenging and fun layout. Target golf course where accuracy is at a premium. Not long but a true test of your game. Greens are consistently among the best in the state!
The pro there Mitch is amazing one of the best in town always takes care of you and very good guy. He is definitely 1 that just knowing him help you wanna be a better person because of how he treats you. Love that course and love it even more because the people that work there.
Great course that provides opportunity to use every club in the bag. Good number of driver holes, but also holes that make you think off the tee
Great shape. Very challenging. Not worth the 27 for 9 holes and a cart. Second most expensive public course in the valley.
Mitch Stone and his staff do a great job for the people of Sandy. Open year round as weather permits. Great driving range. Good golf course.
Great day of golf, course is in great shape.
Nice greens, fairways were good. Prices are too high for seniors.
Great coarse. Challenging holes. Using a Driver on most of the par 4 holes is trouble. I had to restrain as i like to go for it. A lot of fun. Highly recommended
A small course but still challenging and meant for accurate golfers. The ranges are really good also except the south range is a walk to get to.
Fun course! Great staff. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Course had it's unique difficulties which adds that level of challenge. Well maintained.
Good driving range, usually not busy, and knowledgeable pro shop.
Great little course to Challenger skill set front nine more challenging than the back and don't worry I left you plenty of birdies and pars
Great Staff. Set up a family tournament recentky. Mitch, Matt, and the guys really treated us better than I could have ever imagined. Thanks you guys. Anytime I need to hold an event, or tournament, it will be here
Love this golf coarse just plan on losing balls though!! Lol
North practice area on 90th South is the best public range and putting green in the SL Valley. The practice putting green is always in great condition. New range balls.
Good and big trail for running!!!
Really well kept golf course and a fun challenge! Im a beginner and it wasnt too hard, but the guys were saying its one of the hardest in the valley.
Fun, tight short course. Pretty good shape for January 7th
One the best driving ranges! I haven't played the course because I'm not ready but it is absolutely gorgeous!
I love this course. You'd better hit em straight and play smart. If you're off the fairway your chalking penalties.
Beautifully manicured.
Great time! Beautiful course.
More difficult compared to a lot of courses but it's really fun and well taken care of.
Great course, stacked tee times, and friendly staff. Another great round of golf regardless.
Challenging and good variety of hazards. Nice foliage around most holes.
If you want to score you must hit ball straight, in good condition. While it is tight, the course is very fair as it is not that long.
You'll have to join a country club to find greens to rival River Oaks. And the pro shop has best merchandise of any shop -- even private club shops.
I love this course. Plenty of golf balls to pick up along the sides of the fairways. Apparently there are a lot of slicers out there
Attended a wedding reception at the golf course and it was outside in back of the clubhouse. It was absolutely perfect.
Staff is awesome and best merchandise in the state hands down! Not to mention a great challenging course with best greens!
Great track. Well kept. Real golf. Great staff and pro shop.
Had a good day in the future holds the same west coast team in a very well established field of you to get the ball to be a great player in a very competitive field
BMW Motorcycle Club has their Christmas Party at this venue and they do a good job on the food and bar.
Never been a big fan of this course, a lot better options out there but still a good time.
Went there for a wedding reception. It was set up behind the clubhouse and the event was great.
Great course and great people. Had a lot of fun. One of my favs in the valley.
A very challenging golf course. Very tight and narrow with lots of trees and no room for error.
If only my golf game was as good as the course.
Ball/club washers on the carts would be nice
Great golf course it's a good place to master your irons.
Great challenging course, plan for long play times due to heavy population
Such a great golf course with such a nice staff
Great course with friendly staff. Very well maintained and some great challenges.
Course was clean. Carts were great. Can't wait to come back.
Great challenging course. Greens are being airiated right now but in great shape.
Fun course but challenging. The front 9 is narrow and makes you play strategically.
Pretty well maintained course and reasonably priced. Great course to walk.
Amazing management and course is always well kept.
1 of my favs to play.
Very challenging course. Greens were in great shape. Highly recommended
Target track. I found when I played there last time that I did not have a target let alone hitting one.
Would suggest having decaf coffee at event brunches.
Very pleasant we were surprised to see no golf balls bit towards us
Narrow and challenging but still a fun course. Fairways and greens are in good condition.
interesting driving range just large enough that it has bays at both ends that face each other.
Really tight for me taste. Lost slot of balls but wasn't to bad. Had a good time
Really fun! It's an advanced course. Lots of water and wet marsh.
Cool golf course but sandy screwed me over so one point off
This has been our place for the last 8 years for the Make A Wish tournament. Great customer care.
Good range overall, but it could really use some shade and a better stocked pro shop.
For time of year the course is in great shape and fast smooth greens...
Great golf course. Nice greens.
The course is fun to play but the pro shop staff is horrible. If it wasn't for the course it would be a half star at most.
Fun track. Very narrow. Couple gimmicky holes but overall great.
Play here all the time
Great well maintained course. Friendly service and super helpful.
The greens and fairway were in great shape and the place wasn't crowded
Great course at this time of year . Front nine is tight !
Great place for a fun round of golf.
Very clean, easy to play on, and easy to get to. Nice place to hold an event.
Love this course great setup lots of features to avoid
Great layout but bring allot of balls your going to lose some.
Great course in the river bottoms, tight and unforgiving.
Absolutely gorgeous course. Affordable with friendly service
Solid course in Sandy. Great holes, fun, good management.
Very good golf course!
Greens were in pretty good shape for February.
Wasn't too crowded had enough time on each hole without pressure to hurry.
Amazing course and staff
Front nine is fine, but the back is to short. Take a lot of balls .
They were awesome for my sister's wedding reception
Great place to start golf! excellent attention!
The course is still in great shape, especially the greens.
Challenging course! Friendly people in the pro shop....very helpful and friendly.
Awesome shape, I birdied # 13 a par 5
This is a very hard course for mid to high handicaps. Bring lots of balls.
Awesome golf course!!! The best in Utah
Always very accommodating staff are nice people.
Workers are very nice it was my first time there and they were very helpful
Course is in great shape.
Taking golf lessons at River Oaks and it's great!
