Reviews of Triggs Memorial Golf Course
It is a great place to play golf, very beautiful golf course and they open for a long time. We have been there for so many times in different seasons. Love it.
Who doesn't love a classic Donald Ross design? Triggs is challenging in all the right ways, especially on their beautiful greens. Couple long par 4's, tough par 3's, and some well designed, challenging par 5's await you. Course is always well maintained, outside of their unhittable, rocky bunkers. Staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommend playing here!
Donald Ross (tough but fair) gem that weaves its way through a densely populated area. Off-season conditions are challenging everywhere but we didn’t get anything plugged, just some mud balls. Gotta shape your ball out there and use the contours. A few demanding par 4’s and par 3’s. Par 5’s present your best birdie chances but in typical Ross fashion you better not miss long. Met a superstar golfer from the 90’s Keith Allcock who now runs the food and beverage. Fantastic hospitality and local golf stories were a great way to end the day! Will definitely be back for a mid-summer round.
Great public course. Friendly staff with good food. Be sure to go on Wednesdays during the month of August for "Wacky Wednesdays", 20% of your round with a food coupon for lunch. Just paid $44 for 18 holes with a cart and $5 off my lunch. Can't beat it. Enjoy and hit em straight!
Great day today on the course! First time playing it, Great course, course was challenging and in great shape. Greens were awesome and very friendly staff. Joe was a good dude! My buddy said only thing that was sub par were the hot dogs 🌭 lol! I’ll be back again for sure! …
Best golf course in the area
Barb and Joe are the best!
Friendly staff, course is always in good shape. Sometimes we have to play elsewhere if their’s a tournament going on. Really like Triggs
The course was in very good shape. my only complaint is the pace of play We had a 6 hour round and that should never happen.
I see a lot of unusual reviews of this course. Frankly I love playing this course first thing in the morning on a weekday. I hate playing on the weekend because of over crowding and slow play. Its links style and the fairways, tee boxes and greens are in excellent shape. I don't mind using a local rule to roll the ball off the fairway because of some of the hard surfaces. Its about having fun not pounding the ball off hard surfaces when we go astray.
Basically I'm saying play the course and enjoy it.
Loved it. Such a fun and challenging course. Greens were flawless. Staff was really nice too. Mid-week morning tee time and pace was great. Didn’t wait once.
Would be nice if they extended some of the cart paths, or at least put them near the tees and greens. Starting to get lumpy and ruin the course. Other than that, it was great.
Course is in great shape even for mid March. Greens fast & true. Fairways fine. Wet spots & a few minor fixes will, I'm sure, be fixed. One thing: time to put out the sand trap rakes. Can't be beat for great course for any price but especially for $30 ( senior, walking 18).
Great municipal golf course. A surprise jewel within the city limits...
Fabulous golf course. Nice fairways, fast tricky greens that will hold a shot.
Nice course, well taken care of. The rates are a little high, but most courses went up considerably. They definitely need to invest some of the extra profits they are earning from the increased rate into new golf carts! I had to include this in the post because they are by far the worst golf carts interstate! They barely move when going downhill, never mind flat or uphill! It was not just one of the carts either, I tried two different ones before the start of my round and one at the turn.
For Donald Ross fans, Triggs is a classic layout that should be on everyone’s “must play” list. Walkable, challenging and in good condition. Triggs is in my top 3 public courses in RI. Price is fair, and in line with other New England public tracks. If the ownership keeps the course in above average condition, and makes an effort to improve on issues that can be problematic for almost all busy public courses (slow play, customer service), I will not only be a frequent customer, but I will also promote the course to the many golfers in my circle.
Certainly a course for serious golfers.
Pulling up to the golf course I was not impressed at all. He came in from out of state and randomly chose that golf course to play. However, the course was in excellent shape. It was beautiful all around. The staff was very friendly. And I would definitely play this horse again.
Nice course. This place is all about the dollar.$$$ anyone can play here if you have cash and it’s not a cheap course. Should have electric cars by now it’s 2021. Four guys ahead of us, two golf bags = added hour to play 18 holes!
Good public golf course. Neat and wonderful, friendly members
Trigger is good course with a challenging natural layout. But with a natural layout comes its own hazards. I was playing a round on July 17 2020 but never got to finish. On the 12th hole there is a small trench that fronts the green. In trying to step over the trench, I slid into it instead. The result was a broken ankle and 3 months on the PUP list. Have fun but beware.
The good:
I've played here a few times this summer and the course was in really good shape. Tees, fairways and greens are all well kept. It's a solid design and definitely worth playing as long as it's not a weekend/holiday.
The bad:
The tee times are WAY too close to each other. The course gets absolutely log jammed and takes 5+ hours to complete your round when you are not playing during the weekdays.
It also doesn't help when the local members make snarky comments like they think they own the place. It's a public course fellas. There are plenty of private ones for you to join if you don't like it.
Advice:
Assuming they are trying to maximize revenue without any regard for pace of play, try bumping up the prices and space out the tee times on these days. It was brutal the last two times. Basically having to wait to hit every single shot.
Nice municipal course...wide fairways...well cared for grass...admittedly a bit confusing on layout of a couple of holes...when we played there had been some thatching and aeration done that made the greens kind of awkward to play as the airation holes got in the way of the ball...but over all nice walkable course...reasonable price.
I could have sworn I already rated this place. I read mixed reviews on a golf web site. I think people were mad because this course hates you. It is tricky and unforgiving. It looks easy. I promise it is not. Bring a lot of balls. The tall grass is high. The medium grass is high. The staff were beyond great. They took care of us. The Rangers stopped to chat with us on the course. The bartender took good care of us. We just had a blast. I lost like 8 golf balls. I don't regret them. If you find any Bomb balls on the course they are mine. Enjoy them. By the end of the season there should be at least a case. I am glad I ignored some of the naysayers and played here.
Track is in great shape for a public course... The only issue is early morning Tee-Times. The course doesn't allow players to tee-off before 6:30 AM, Sunrise is roughly 5:15 to 5:30 AM. This needs to be changed so golfers can tee off on or after 5:45 AM.... How is a businessman working in Providence supposed to make it into work by 8:30 AM if he can't tee off until 6:30 AM.. Come on guys, let's allow golfers to tee off right when Sunrise hits.
Passing through town and wanted to play 9 holes, they were great about getting us out and we enjoyed the course. only played the back nine but it was very enjoyable. Bar is also very nice
From tee to green, this was a verygood course. It's an old classic Donald Ross, essentially unaltered, of course it's going to be solid. Donald Ross was a great golf course architect. But the greens themselves...they were incredibly slow. It was like putting through molasses. You could not hit a putt hard enough, it was nearly impossible to get the ball to the hole. I'm not a fan of ultra-fast greens, far from it. But this was ridiculous, and unfortunately it really took away from what was otherwise an excellent golf course.
Triggs Memorial Golf Course is a generally well-regarded layout, which combines several attractive holes and features. This tree-lined parkland course will test most facets of your game, and should provide a round with plenty of enjoyable golfing challenges. Worth visiting if you are in the area.
Great shape...greens were beautiful...a little rough outside of fairways..but tee and fairways were adaquate..staff and food was really good...
I decided to play this course last minute, because i had 6 hours to kill before my plane flight back home.
Everybody that worked there was amazing. I love these people.
They let me put my luggage in the clubhouse. They had a set of clubs i could use that was pieced together from decades.
All together an unforgettable, amazing experience.
Thanks Triggs!
Great course and great design. But the sand bunkers are very bad condition just because those ground maintenances didn't do a good job on the sand. Instead of using their hands to fix and soft the sand they are using a little tractor running inside the sand bunkers so the sand is getting harder and sinking down to the ground. You never know how the shot will result.
7 of us played. New carts, Fun place to play. green were wet early, but firmmed up and rolled nicely . A lot of great driving holes. Place is well kept. beverage cart lady was , nice, fun and was around when needed. The bar has awesome T.V 's , good beer's on hand. Sam's , I PA's ..ect.
the bar tendered was nice, I would go back to see her. Food We only had chicken fingers, onion rings and fries all good..honey mustard was great. The bathroom could use a sink upgrade .
Every thing eles was fantasic. friendly people.
1st time back in a few years...but had nice winter golf experience. Greens were good and staff very nice.
Course was in good shape. Both events were fun. Great staff.
1st time playing here ..what a pleasure. Several long par 4s on the front nine. Cool Muni course in the city. Busy place, make tee time in advance.
Theyve stopped allowing singles to play unless paired. This was my fav twilight spot to play solo but not anymore. Management needs to figure it out
Nice course, needs signage in Tee box. Over all good course good value. Hot dog at the turn was exceptional. Fried with chopped onion and chips.( No soggy boiled dog here) ;)
The course is challenging and fun. The staff is exceptional. The people that play are great, and there are plenty of leagues
Another fantastic afternoon at Triggs, finishing in 4:20 and never waiting. Greens rolling true, autumn in all its beauty, and two birdies!
Beautiful course. A visit isn't complete without a stop in the restaurant/bar. The food is great, the drinks are strong and the staff is fantastic.
Course in great shape
Not over crowded so play moved along with no waiting.
Great course and challenging layout. One of the best designed courses in the area. Only downside is the pace of play can get slow at times.
An interesting Donald Ross design with great greens/fairways. Unfortunately the rest of the facility hasnt changed in 50 years. The parking lot is still a disaster and the clubhouse looks like it hasnt been touched since 1970.
Tee boxes, fairways and greens great. Rough had a lot of bare spots and extremely long hay ( I know, hit more fairways)!
Great course, but punishing. If you're not consistently in the fairway be ready for a looooong day.
Always love playing here!!!!!! Course is in great shape and greens are good!!!! Lot of different looks for your 2nd shot......I'll play here again!!!!!!!
Course in good shape for early spring. They are doing some much needed maintenance. Looks to only get better.
Course was dry and the greens were fast! Playing very good for early March
