The course is decent and has a fun layout. It's by no means in amazing shape, but for a $50 round, it's really not that bad. The one star reviewers must have crazy expectations. Their driving range is also fairly nice. Unfortunately it is mats only, but they seem to keep them in decent shape or replace them frequently. My biggest complaint is that the bays feel like a sauna because there is absolutely zero air flow. Everyone looks soaked from sweat by the time they finish a large bucket. They should really look into adding some fans to move some air around to keep it cooler.

A year ago, I started to play golf at RedTail. The golf course is really nice and well maintained. The pro shop staff are friendly and helpful. My Redtail golf instructor, AC Coleman, has taught me a lot. I’ve gone from upper 50s handicap to a 16 handicap in four months. I look forward to my lessons with AC because he always teaches me something new to improve my game. I would highly recommend Red Tail and AC.

Played Saturday afternoon, Oct 8. My friends had been there a year or two and liked it. I had low expectations based on negative reviews. I expected a lot of dead grass, rock hard fairways, etc that I had read about. The conditions weren't bad though, especially considering the price. The greens were the weakest part. 2/3 of that is from all the idiots who think they're above ball mark repair. Seriously what has come over people when it comes to that? There were the standard compacted, dead grass areas where traffic is high. There were a few mushy spots in fairways and in low areas around greens and I found them regularly. These are just things I expect from a metro area muni course with drainage issues and extremely high use. I rate courses for more than just that stuff though. This place has great and spacious practice facilities, an overstocked pro shop with fast moving but polite and helpful employees, a decent drunk cart service, benches and nice shade around the tees, water coolers around the course full of cold water, and a decent little Cafe with sandwiches etc. These are all things people value, especially if rhey make a drive to try a place out like we did, and this place delivered. Pace was flawless and it was an 80* Saturday in October. I was braced for a 5.5 hour round, but we zipped right around in under 4 hours. I'll definitely go back. I'd give it 4.5* if I could.

I came in to find a new putter. Mike O’Keefe spent nearly an hour with me measuring, testing and fitting me for a putter that compliments my swing. I tried several different putters and he did a fantastic job of narrowing down the perfect fit and type of putter for my game. I had a preconceived idea about the putter I wanted, but Mike dialed in the perfect putter for me and it was not what I expected. I appreciate the time and analysis that went into the assessment of my stroke and I am thrilled with the end result!

We arrived at 6:00 PM with hopes of leaving with new irons. Big Nick quickly escorted us to a practice mat where we received lessons on top of a fitting. Super personable, very knowledgeable and absolutely no pressure. We left with new Callaway irons, a new driver and putter. This was an awesome experience thanks Nick and thanks RedTail!!

I want to start by saying I don’t write reviews, but my experience was so positive I’m more then happy to share it! Redtail for me is the new place I’ll do my golf purchases. I was looking for a higher end putter and Mike O’Keefe did such an amazing job fitting me for the putter. Took the time to answer my questions off the start. We then took some stats and found some putters that would work. We took a couple putts outside and another customer walked by and said “You’re in good hands with Mike” and he was not wrong. Mike is super knowledgeable, personable and made the process of buying a putter very enjoyable! I’ve been around the game for 20ish years now. I’ve worked at courses and shops when I was younger, so I got a feel some of the nuances of working in it. So, If you’re newer to the game or are intimidated about asking questions or just don’t know why you want, Mike and the team are more then qualified to help you out and make you feel comfortable going forward. Looking to get you in the RIGHT clubs verses just selling you something and it shows. When I have future purchases I know where I’m going to go.

Went here to get custom fit for new set of irons, Tim helped me out today and was amazing. He helped my brother before a few months back and he raved about Tim here. I will never get clubs anywhere else as everything they do is at highest level I have seen for normal joe golfers. Tim will be the only guy I go see there as his knowledge of the game is amazing. Thank you Tim and Redtail I will be a frequent flyer there even with my 2 hour commute to your location.

Review for range only: Driving range is large and we’ll equipped. Mats only, but it’s open until 10 year round. (If you’re going late may want to call ahead because they sometime close early without warning). Balls are a little better than average. Mats good quality. Shop is well stocked and competitive prices.

Red Tail is the spot in the Portland area for golf. They have a great Club-fitting facility with really knowledgeable fitters. I recommend Jason Burnett and Ben Grusin. They have been extremely helpful and accommodating to me and many others. The other great part is the Pro-Shop. They have amazing deals on golf balls, clothing, and Clubs as well. The staff is super friendly. Along with the double deck driving range, 18 hole golf course and numerous practice areas, Red Tail is the place to be!

Red Tail is fine in of itself. I have been there many many times over the years and the experience that I have had is similar to my friends and family's experience. Staff is fine, but you typically have to proactively look for help if your looking for something in their proshop and your never greeted. The course is usually kept up well year round. It's not the cheapest course but it that's ok because it is typically nice. Be prepared to spend time on the course because the play is slow due to the volume of people. Unfortunately from a handful of poor experiences over the years RedTail is never our first choice. It is usually a choice of convenience and are willing to try a couple times a year for them to change out minds.

If you are looking for an excellent putter fitting experience, ask to work with Mike O'Keefe. He is very knowledgeable and really cares to help improve your game. Utilizing tools like the SAM PuttLab and collaborating with you to find the right putter combination that maximizes your strengths, I was overall really impressed. You will come away with a better understanding of your own unique putter swing and feel confident that the putter you select will make sinking putts that much easier.

I recently took a lesson at RedTail Golf Center from Kris Turner, and Jason Burnett fitted me with a set of Mizuno 921 HM Pro irons. I gave them five stars, but they both deserve ten! Kris gave me two swing changes (plenty for any golfer) with my irons and three drills to work on, and my scores have dropped dramatically in only two weeks. I once again feel confident in hitting greens in regulation - I only missed three greens (two were on the fringe) on the second round of our club championship. Before Kris helped me, I was hooking, slicing, chunking, and other unmentionable things with my irons. I can’t wait to hit my new irons because Jason is the man! Over the years I have sent many golfers to him (including my two sons), and every single one has been 100% satisfied with their “lifetime guaranteed” fitting. I also have purchased two drivers and a three wood from him in the past, and they are amazing because they fit me perfectly. Both Kris and Jason are very knowledgeable, honest professionals. They are not going to pressure you into buying anything. They are only interested in making you a better golfer. Their calm and reassuring demeanor will put you at ease and make you feel very comfortable. I can’t say enough about their character. I highly recommend Kris and Jason (RedTail Golf Center in general) to any golfer at any skill level!

This review is in regards to the club fitting program. I got fitted for irons and a hybrid, and Eric Malone helped me through the process, making sure that I had the right equipment to fit my game. I walked away feeling more confident, and was able to order clubs that I loved in both feel and look. I highly recommend getting fitted here, and in the future I’ll be coming back to get my driver and wood fitting here with Eric!

I got fitted at Redtail for a full set of clubs. Definitely had a good experience. I got thoughtful advice and left with a set that I've grown into and that has improved my game. But that was about 7 years ago, so I more recently went back because I felt like my driver just wasn't giving me the distance more modern technology would. I scheduled an appointment with Jason Burnett. Jason was a pro's pro. He spent a lot of time with me. It never felt rushed. We tried a lot of drivers and shafts and lofts. At the end of the day, a clear choice emerged and it has given me an extra 30 to 40 yards. No joke. But given how many drivers I tried and the way Jason dialed in the shaft and head adjustment, it is clear that the major gain was about customization and identifying the right fit for my swing. Not any new driver would have given me gains like that. Impressed.

This is my first experience being fitted for clubs. I was very impressed with the courtesy, professionalism, and technology used throughout the experience. Ben, who fitted me, spent two hours supplying various clubs, analyzing each club in video-statistical detail, and together we found the perfect clubs for me. Looking at the original sticker prices, I got a lot of club for the money (50% off). All in all, I walked away with more knowledge and a great set of clubs, at a great deal. I give Ben and RedTail a big thumbs up.

By far the best club fitting experience I’ve ever had (and I’ve been to a bunch of um in Vegas, Cali, and Hawaii). Spent well over two hours with fitter Jeff Emmerich. He worked expertly and patiently with me and was extremely committed to helping me find the right driver for my swing. He also provided some very helpful tips On how to improve my swing. I can confirm everything negative posted here. If this course/range was not the closest to my house, I would never go. The course is decent for about 2 months after the rain stops and before it turns into a goat track (Doesn't drain at all, then turns rock hard) and you will never get through a round in less than 5 hours on a decent weekend (Marshals don't care, public course after all). Range is ridiculous, balls are old and the range goes down hill (Can't see your shot past 175 yards). Their "Sales" go on year round, so they are not really sales at all. Only reason for 2 stars is the fact that they have invested into their Trackman and they do have some good fitters, but others can be rude. I want to see it improve, I just don't feel like they care. Update: From 2 to 4 stars. Same complaints about the course, but hey, it is a city course after all. They have invested into the range and I haven't had a bad experience at the pro shop or with the staff in the last years.

The staff is very nice and helpful. The course is generally in very good shape. The practice facilities are nice, with lots of capacity in the driving range. But, because the course is centrally located on the west side of Portland, it's always crowded. Expect a round of 18 holes to take 4.5 to 5 hours during peak hours of evenings and weekends.

I went to Redtail about a week ago to get a custom fitted set of clubs. Rob Johnson was assigned to help me make my selection and get me fitted for my set. I was extremely lucky to get paired up with Rob. He took the time and had such a high attention to detail when it came to my swing and the results of my swing. He asked me few questions before we started and told me he would have me swinging 30-40 yards farther with my irons in a few months and 70+ yards farther with my woods. THAT DAY I swinging 30-40 yards farther with my irons. He went through a series of adjustments till it finally landed and fit with measurement and swing. I didn't realize how important a fitting was to my game. I couldn't be happier with the result but I think it deserves to be said that Rob was an absolute joy to be around. THANK YOU AGAIN ROB!

I had a great experience getting fitted for new clubs. I went thinking I knew what I wanted and had tried a few styles on my own. The Pro I was working with was Cole and he tried to bend my will to my golf game but through some coaching and science on the screen got me fitted with the proper clubs that felt great and a brand I had never really considered. He made sure they worked for my current game and that I still had room for improvement. Again I had a great time with this and would recommend this fitting to anyone.

I am a very average golfer that had 30 yr old clubs. Been to stubborn to buy new ones. Today I went in and worked with Jeff Emmerich and he helped fit me with new irons. Amazing staff, friendly and knowledgeable! I got a custom fitting with Jeff Emmerich who was super knowledgeable on every club out on the market. He had me swing my clubs that I had and was able to put clubs in my hand that improved every aspect of my game, distance, accuracy, etc... When I got my new clubs, I gave my old set to my father and Ean Fellner helped my father out with the same respect and professionalism all of their staff has given me even without him purchasing a new set of clubs. Whether you're looking for a new set of clubs, getting fitted with the current clubs, or just need to fill gaps in your distances go to RedTail and see anyone of their staff members and you will be impressed with the whole experience. I take lessons with Robert Randall as well, he is worth every penny I spent on the lessons and more. The trackman system that is used helps improve your game with in-depth analysis and allows you to not just go and hit balls with no purpose.

Good muni course with a driving range (range could use some modernization) and a good restaurant on the 18th hole (the stockpot). Would have given 5 stars if the fairways and sand traps were not so compacted and physically hard, but it has been very dry lately.

I drove from Chehalis Washington to get fitted here. Jason the head pro fit me at 430 by 645 we had a complete bag custom fitted for me. First ever set for me he custom fitted me based on every major brand. We put together a bag of taylormade, mizuno irons, callaway driver. He taught me some golf while fitting me as well. Highly suggest coming here if I need anything again while in Washington or Oregon there is where I’ll go. I had a recent fitting with Jason, club fitter with Red Tail Golf Center. What an experience. I really enjoy golf and yearn to improve. My driver was older and off the shelf, ill fitting with what turned out to be an incorrect shaft stiffness and loft. While I knew the driver wasn't quite right, it was a known bad and I could deal with it. I didn't want to spend a lot of money and end up with something worse. Jason made sure this was not the case. Jason went through all of my clubs, making sure they were the right length and pitched upright correctly for my specific body measurements. Existing irons and hybrids good to go. He reviewed my wedges and recommended three new bladed Clevelands--loft through gap wedge. Then he went to work on covering yardage gaps on longer clubs--to make sure I had logical gaps in carry and total yardage as we stepped up six iron through driver. There were a lot of swings, analysis with the TracMan and a ton of patience by Jason. After 2.5 hours, we were both satisfied. I walked out with loads of confidence, a new driver, five wood and three top of the line wedges. Time and money well spent. Because of their volume, they have the clubs in store ready to go. No waiting around for clubs to be shipped by a manufacturer. Great experience at Red Tail.

I love this place, it has the nicest range on this side of town with 2 levels and you can play into the evening with the great lighting. I was hitting balls one afternoon and Brett, a coach at Redtail, walked past and watched me hit a ball. He felt inclined to give me some pointers and next thing I knew he taught me for an hour. For free! Not only that but his tips worked and have helped my game since. I am going to sign up for lessons with him. The only thing I wish they would improve is to have a token machine on the range. Everytime I want to hit I have to go into the golf shop and wait in line to get my tokens because they are always busy. It would be great if you could get tokens right on the range and avoid the pro shop line. That's my only complaint but it is great here and I am happy to have such a great place nearby.

Over the weekend I was having some putting issues. Jason Bennett, worked with me on the putting practice green, it was determined the 34 inch used putter I purchased was too short. He lengthened to 35 1/2. Small things make big difference. Putts are now true with NO pulls. Jason is so good, makes corrections feel painless, and rewarding to the operator.

Best club buying experience I have ever had. Total waste of money going anywhere else around SW Washington and all of Oregon to buy equipment. Make an appointment and get fitted. They know what they are doing and understand how to get it right for you. Everyone else is just trying to sell you what they have in stock. Can't figure out why all the new clubs off the rack seem the same, get fitted and you will understand.

My review is for the Pro shop vs. the coarse, and I have to say it was a great experience. Being 6' 8", I had to be fitted for clubs. I am still learning the game, and had some cheap clubs that were lengthened by a local sporting goods store, but this was in an entirely different experience. Nick spent over 2 hours with me getting me set up and testing different brands of irons. He was patient and extremely helpful, even with a beginner such as myself. It was nice to be able to quantify the difference in setups and brands. I'll be back in the future.

Price is a little steep for what it is so i usually just hit up the driving range. It's only $10 for a full bucket of balls and the range is never too crowded. There is also a decent restaurant on site and like any other golf course they have lessons available. My two favorite things about Redtail is that it's pretty cheap to get your clubs sized, usually only takes 48 hours, and the sidewalk tent sale that seems to be going on whenever the weather allows offering 50% off on most items.

I don't know of a better place to go to get fitted for golf clubs. Their staff took close to 2 hours in analyzing my swing and set me up with a great set of irons. They also threw in a few tips on my alignment that has proved significant in lowering my handicap from a 11 to a 6...

I can usually find golf items I "need" at 50% off Update edit - 10/20/18. I was custom fitted for a complete set of Callaway clubs in December of 2018. RedTail said I could come back for swing analysis on their Trackman. Ten months later I took them up on their offer and they welcomed me back with textbook customer service. Alex, one of their swing technicians set me up immediately and after hitting a few balls gave me a couple of tips to improve my swing - different backswing plane and dropping down in the slot. RedTail proved to me it is a business that really cares about me and my game.

Drove all the way out to visit a friend and take advantage of their golf fitting. I enjoyed the time Ben Grusin took to find me the clubs which worked best. Ben took my future goals into account as well as keeping the cost down. this was not a requirement as I had told them I wanted to do it right the first time and was willing to pay the price. Jason took care of me. He explained the entire process to me including the rationale for his conclusions. He didn't try to sell me, he simply provided me with his explanations and let me decide what was best for my game. A genuinely nice guy who improved my game. I would absolutely recommend Jason to anyone that wants to know what their optimal metrics are for their equipment.

Met with Jeff Emmerich for a driver fitting and left with a new Callaway Epic. Jeff is an excellent fitter and very attentive. The facility is fully stocked. There is a good chance that you can walk away the stocks that work for you.

As a pro shop and driving range, redtail is pretty nice. Pro shop isn't cheap, but they're very helpful and knowledgeable. The driving range is good, although busy at times. The actual course is awful. The greens are not well kept, and are for the most part long par 5's without much character. If you're going to redtail, only use the driving range.

He was great, very patient and helpful. We will likely sign up for the intro series of lessons they offer.

Working with Nick Mawbry for both club fitting and private lessons has been the most positive experience I've enjoyed in over 40 years of playing golf. It's unthinkable to me that anyone serious about their game would not avail themselves of the remarkable fitting / teaching technology now available to all golfers. The 'Trackman' technology is used by the best players in the game - and it's available to YOU simply by requesting a free fitting and buying your clubs at Redtail. I even got a call from Redtail about 2 weeks after getting my fitted clubs, letting me know that there was a $25 dollar per iron rebate from Taylormade, and that I now had a credit at the store. A world class experience!!

I brought in a 3w for reshafting. It was an old 3w. They lost the head. Wes said, "We are giving you a new free 3 wood. Get fitted right now." Wow! I got a $300 Epic 3w for free. I love Wes and Steve. This is an amazing place.

It's awesome to drive some balls after a stressful week. Sometimes the staff seem very judgemental of anyone not wearing golf attire being there, but it doesn't come from everyone. It's kept me from putting my kid into golf lessons there, but hasn't kept me from sending a few buckets down the range.

Our son has been taking lessons at RedTail for the last year and it's been a really great experience for him. Coach Greg Schmid is incredibly patient with young kids, comes prepared with fun games for them to play, and of course is extremely knowledgable about golf. If you're looking for a good spot for youth lessons this is a great option.

We will just need more patience or come back later. Tees missing from the driving range last week. Two weeks ago we got kicked off places because they were going to be needed by a class. Why not put up a reserved sign?

I usually play this course once or twice a year. A decent course during the summer months (it gets super soggy in the rainy months due to poor drainage.) One of the longer and more difficult courses in the area (particularly from the blue or tips). Be one of the first groups off the tee in the morning or plan on a 5 hour plus round. If you're looking for a better course Pumpkin Ridge, The Reserve, Heron Lakes (either course), Chehalem Glen, Stone Creek and Camas Meadows are all better courses.

I love it at redtail Pro Shop it's hard to walk through there they have so much stuff which is awesome hard to get out of there without buying something, the golf course is very challenging and tough

The one thing that bothers me is the guy in Bunkers Bar and Grill who charged himself an extra $1.25 tip on top of the $2 I already gave him on my credit card which I didn't notice until I'm sitting at home doing my banking...the money is not the issue, it's the retardedness to do such a thing in the first place.
