Reviews of Berkshire Valley Golf Course
Beautiful and well maintenence golf course.
Fairways are tight and number of bunkers and water hazards make it a challenging course.
Fun times shared at Berkshire with family. Beautiful golf course with lovely views and challenging holes. Friendly staff and cart lady lol
One of best course in NJ. Breathtaking scenery and well maintained. Staffs are very friendly. Garry (Starter) was so kind. The view from first tee is speechless and you can see almost entire courses. Not an easy course but challengeable for all levels of players.
Very scenic course. Challenging greens. Putt very carefully or else you will find yourself chasing a ball. Condition was great and the fairways were wide enough for a newer golfer like me not to lose track of too many shots. Only complaint I would have, its a small one, I would love to have a few extra water stations around but I very much enjoyed it and I'm not a strong golfer so I'd imagine its even more fun if you're good.
Beautiful course… narrows, hills and hazards. Literally a slice of Ballyowen or Crystal Springs; my new favorite course
Beautiful course with plenty of challange.
Good part: great views, friendly staff, range available, clean facility
Needs to improve: tee boxes and bunkers.
It's challanging course with tough pin positions and variety of holes to keep you engaged for the whole round. manage first 5 holes as those are most challanging of all. Tee times for weekend get filled up preety fast. I would definitely play this course in all seasons
Very challenging golf course but the setting in mountain is very good and makes a great backdrop for each hole bunker were very bad with rocks and little sand left on many holes probably due to water runoff via rain.
Overall - decent quality and great views! Tee boxes are chewed up though. Also, lots of rocks in the bunkers. Could do better with tee boxes and bunkers given the greens fees were jacked up this year. Otherwise better than average county course.
For $72 - the tee boxes are terrible. See one of the photos attached
Nice difficult big course. Provides some good views. Staff can be not around when needed or sometimes pushy. Carts are not the best.
Tough course but fun to play.. greens could be better..
Amazing views
Every year my golf partner and I try to add at least one new course to our summer rounds. Well we found our Gem for this year. An absolutely stunning golf course. I am dying already to get back there. Beautiful, awesome condition, challenging. Spectacular layout. All the employees were welcoming and pleasant. Played this past Thursday and the weather was perfect.
Fantastic golf course!! The layout is nice and challenging
The range here seems to be very beat up and idk if it’s just me but the balls were leaving some marks on my clubs. Now the course itself the course was very scenic but played slow and there was trash on some tee boxes, the one annoying thing was the ranger who was all over everyone when we weren’t the issue we were waiting on almost every tee box. Course was nice but overall it could be better
Love the course. Great layout and beautiful scenery. Course was in good condition and greens were a good speed.
One of the best county courses I’ve played. Beautiful and challenging track that is well maintained throughout the day.
Played 8-25-21 8:10am. DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE "CART PATH ONLY" THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME PLAYING THERE. The view from the 1st Tee is breathtaking and gives you optimism that this course is what others have boasted (UNLIKE THE GREATLY OVERRATED & RIDICULOUSLY-PRICED "WILD TURKEY"...I think Great Gorge is even better than Wild Turkey!). The first 5 holes they warn you "don't hit the ball to the right" as all slopes off and auto lost ball...And the 1st 5 holes offer a great start. But there are STEEP hills to walk down from the cart path which, especially when wet, could be dangerous. Very imaginative course layout and excellent fairway conditions. Greens are VERY challenging and depending on "sadistic" pin placement (there are 3 positions for pin depending on day), one could even putt off the green so knowing the course would help of course. Actually never got in a sand trap as i heard conditions were tough (But it looked like there was sand UNLIKE the disgusting Wild Turkey which suggests you take the ball out as it's rock hard in places). We were confused where we were hitting on just a couple of holes but were playing with a regular which helped. The only MINOR suggestion, however difficult, would be - a couple Par 3's have such high weeds in front, it's tough to see the pin. I understand the aesthetics of high weeds but i think you should see the pin on a Par 3. I will be back!! (Of course a Senior Rate would be nice too)
James. The straw that stirs the drink. James Phillips is the best over here - honestly, makes the entire experience in the pro shop. I went in wanting some tees - walked out with a hat, pro vs everything. The best
Beautiful course in great condition. Accidentally booked the first tee time after an outing so we had a slow round, but the course is so nice it was worth it.
Played here for the first time on a Monday afternoon at 4PM. Finally saw a Golf Now hot deal and jumped on it. Here are the positives... Beautiful views, especially from the highest spots (holes 1-5 and clubhouse). Great layout where no 2 holes are alike. Really interesting, thought provoking holes that make you think hard about club selection. The greens; pin placements can dramatically change your score from one day to the next. Nice elevation changes and bunkering.
Now for some negatives... The overall condition was far from great, especially for the price. Now keep in mind we played for about 1/2 the usual cost, so for $35, the course was worth every penny. If we had paid full price, I'd be a little more disappointed. In particular, the tee boxes were chopped up pretty good as were some sections of fairways. Also, the greens were not rolling true. The two reasons... Late in the day and NOBODY fixes their (or other's) ball marks. The course looks like it gets a lot of play and if no one is fixing ball marks, then at 4PM the greens start to look like the surface of the moon. I know what you're thinking, you can't blame the golf course if players are inconsiderate and/or ignorant, but at some point the greens must be repaired daily, cut, rolled and tended to more than seems to be taking place here. And finally, there can be areas where some signs or markers could help point the direction to go as there are some intersections of cart paths where you're not quite sure where to go. We originally wanted to walk the course but 1) that seems to be discouraged and 2) we'd have definitely been lost in spots and needing to back track. BTW- we kinda figured after talking with the starter (a really nice, friendly guy) that finishing all 18 was not gonna happen (especially since we were told carts must be returned by 8PM) but we got all holes in which was a huge plus. I would certainly recommend anyone to go play here. The 2-some we were paired with play here a lot and said that the conditions do fall off a bit over the summer months so keep that in mind.
The course has a nice layout with great scenery. I could see it being close to a 5 on a good day. The day I went it was not having a good day. Had an 8 am tee time and got there early to warm up on the range. The range was closed. I was told they needed to mow it and didn't know when they were getting around to do that. The starter was nice enough to get us out a little earlier rather than standing around. Just before driving to the 1st tee we were told it was cart path only. No indication of this until then. Fairways were nice but a little long and some mud holes here and there that could be repaired. Greens were bumpy and sandy until later in the round where it was obvious they had been cut. Odd to start cutting on later holes. There wasn't a single trap on the course that was raked. Not kidding, not one. Foot prints and ball craters on the entire course. Even had trouble finding a rake sometimes. My fault for being in them I guess. So overall nice course having a bad day. Wasn't worth the hour and half drive and what I payed, but could have been.
Really nice course. Challenging but fair. Greens were really fast today.
Good course. Helpful staff.
Great layout, the elevation changes are exceptional, greens are tricky but rolled true. Definitely worth the price of admission!
Really nice track and in great shape. Got a deal to play early in the morning only $30. I will definitely go back.
Beautiful course. Difficult but doable if hitting them straight and can survive the first 5 or 6 holes!!!
Beautiful landscape. Wish players respected the course more by fixing their divots and ballparks, and raking the bunkers.
Berkshire Valley is a great piece of the Morris County park commission. As per its namesake, it's located in a valley and hillside with nice views across the valley. Played from the blue tees, it measures roughly 6400 yards in length.
The layout reminds me of another hilly course, Wild Turkey, over at Crystal Springs resort. Front nine is set in a series of steppes cut into the hillside and then the course descends down into the valley. The hole layout opens up in the back. What's a nice little bonus about the county courses are the lack of houses along the fairways so no chance of playing into someone's patio.
There is a small driving range to warm up before your round. It only allows irons to be hit off the mats due to the short distance of the range.
Tee times are spaced right now I think 10 minutes apart. Expect 4 to 5 hours long rounds on the weekend. I've experienced the few times I golf here somewhere closer to 5 hours.
Beautiful golf course and well maintained but very hard to book.
Great staff. Course very well maintained, and pace of play is excellent.
I had a great time. There is a lot of elevation change between holes, but the holes themselves are pretty reasonable. The first view holes are up on the hill. The views are really nice, but some holes are not very forgiving for someone like me with slice. The course is kept well and they have a grill out just after the turn since the turn is not by the clubhouse. The clubhouse has food and a shop and a nice deck that overlooks the course. There is plenty of parking as well.
WOW .. 8/26/2021Just an Amazing experience .. Course A1 condition . tough course . in my opinion not for the beginner . BUT If you enjoy beauty . a well maintained facility and a challenge ? this is a place to play . Fast Greens and no such thing as a gimmie putt .. staff was great .. cart girls A+
dont know if i've ever given 5 stars but this course come dam close
Excellent but challenging course. Always in good condition. One of my favorite public courses in NJ.
Great course.
Well maintained. Greens and fairways were in excellent condition.
Staff is cordial.
Terrific scenery. A must play course I'm Northern New Jersey.
Great course. Carts included and necessary. Its great that they have a warm up range. It would be better if the fence was higher so you could use your woods.
Beautiful course. Great condition. Had a really good time here. Food on the turn at the BBQ station was so good I had to go back and get seconds. The way they lay out the holes, you will pass it twice so it's perfect for grabbing food and drinks in the middle of the round.
Great golf course for the money. Afternoon discounts are amazing
This is a beautiful course that makes great use of the natural terrain and water to provide a captivating, challenging and in many ways breathtaking golfing experience. It is narrow, has tons of water, the tee boxes and fairways are in great shape, it has impeccable greens that are hard to read . . . and did I say it was beautiful.
This is the first time that we've played this golf course, but it won't be the last. The only weakness of the course is that many of the sand traps have a very thin layer of sand and then its hard pan. But that's it. The greens are challenging but they are fair. The staff in the pro shop, at the starter’s hut and the grill are really friendly.
We are from Austin, Texas and have played golf courses all over the US. This is one of the best public courses that we have ever played . . . including privately owned public courses. It's hard to believe that this is a "county" course, because it is run better than many country clubs.
Golf cart was covered in bird droppings. Irons only at driving range. Great course in beautiful shape. Ball machine dispensed less than half of a small bucket.
Love Berkshire Valley. It is a terrific course with everything an experienced golfer would want plus it is a great value. The last time I played the coursefall 2018the fairways and greens could have been better maintainedtoo many divots, ball marks and casual bare spots that could be easily corrected! My feeling is that the golf superintendent's standards should be highermore in keeping with the excellent design of this truly beautiful and unforgettable course. Morris County residents who play there regularly should express themselves accordingly if they agree with my comments. Thanks...
Fun course with a beautiful landscape, bring plenty of extra balls!
Beautiful golf course in great shape. The 1st 6 holes are brutal if you don't hit it straight. Don't worry it gets easier
Half of the Bunkers have ROCKS and HARD BROWN DIRT in them (WHY??) - the other half are ok. For a County facility, you'd think they could afford a little sand? Other than that, you better be accurate! Good Golfers Only! Can't spray tee shots all over the place especially on the first four or five holes that run straight along the top of the Ridge-Line. A nice course for a County Facility. I like(d) it ..... Usually in good shape....Pace of play can be slow when crowded.
Beautifully kept course, friendly staff, sandwich, snack, drinks cart drives around several times during 19 holes of golf; hot dogs, hamburgers, snacks and drinks half way thru 19 holes, no outside alcohol allowed; bar inside but check for times
Beautiful course but expensive unless you get the twilight rate. First few holes are tougher and the course doesn't set up well for beginners. Overall great for average to better players.
Challenging course that is almost always in great shape. Opening holes require accuracy off the tee while later holes challenge your length with tee shots over water. Greens are quick with undulating contours that makes routine 2-putts a challenge and 1-putts highly rewarding.
Due to the difficulty of the course, pace of play can be slow at times leading to 5-hour rounds. Rangers do patrol routinely to keep groups moving along though.
The layout is great. Fairways and greens very good. The white tee boxes are nearly barren. The traps are groomed occasionally. Which means hardly ever.
since it opened my foursome and i are weekly regulars. Last sunday i played for the first time this year and was taken back how terrible the sand traps were. They had no sand and more rocks than anything. For the price they charge this course traps included should be in much better shape...
Beautiful course with red, yellow, white, blue, and black tee boxes. Greens and fairways were very well kept and the proshop staff, starter, beer-cart girl and bbq tent staff we're all incredibly nice.
Morris county's best and most beautiful course but also the longest and most difficult. Most expensive too. Riding a cart is mandatory. Don't try walking!
Why don't courses allow taking the cart out to the parking lot to load up quicker?
Hidden gem, you will love this place. The first five holes are tough. Course plays long on some holes but if you can hit straight you will have no problems. GOOD LUCK - highly recommeded
course is always in good shape. greens at a good speed. only gave a 4 star because the traps are in poor shape. some tee boxes are hacked up but thats expected at a public course
Impeccable maintenance. Very enjoyable round. Breathtaking views!
Berkshire Valley Golf Course is one of the top-rated and finest championship layouts in New Jersey. The excellent tree-lined and open parkland course contains a wealth of wonderfully crafted, memorable and challenging holes. Definitely a course that will challenge your all-round game, and well worth going out of your way to play.
Course gets a lot of play. Kept in good condition considering all the outings and normal county play. Challenging course for all. Dont expect much for the clubhouse or other amenities as this is a county course
Great golf course. Love the layout of this course and it's in great condition. Good price. When I first saw the course I thought that it was private but it's a public course. Will definitely be coming back.
Quite possibly the most beautiful golf course I have ever played at. It feels like you’re in Montana with the views. Cant wait to go back when it’s in season in the spring.
Played this course for the first time. Heard a lot of good things about it. Was not let down. Challenging course but a lot of fun and well maintained
A real beauty. Course is always in spectacular shape. This Roger Rulewich design course offers many sculpted bunkers, lakes and streams. Really fun layout.
Aside from the course always being in top notch shape, I have a ton of great memories here playing with my father. Oh, and Mike is one of the best Starters around!
Tough course!! But fair. You need to be able to get off the tee consistently well, or you're toast. But once off the tee and in or near the fairway, you can make your way around the course pretty well.
Very well maintained fun course with beautiful scenery. Green runs a little fast for me but overall very satisfied.
Impossible to beat. Easy to make tee times, the scenery is stunning, and the staff is as cordial as they come. The course is challenging and very well maintained.
Course in great shape. Greens best I've played on this year. Staff very professional. Keep up the good work.
Beautiful course... Love it. It has a driving range, so show up early so you can warm up.
Awesome course! Reviews about poor sand conditions are correct but who cares.
My favorite of the Morris County courses with beautiful scenery and some challenging terrain. The perfect place for fall golf.
Challenging course, well maintained. Beautiful scenery.
One of my favorite courses in NJ. Plays a bit longer than the yardages but is always in good shape
First six holes are truly spectacular. The views are great for a public course its well maintained
Beautiful course. Challenging greens
One of my fav Public Courses in NJ
Greens and fairways were in perfect condition. Pace of game was good.Very scenic and picturesque.
Great condition. Being lots of balls. Lol
Pin placements were for scratch golfer, not fair, cart girl went home at 3:30 when we were on second hole, no halfway house to get anything. B-
Always a nice course to play at.
Best county course in the area
Nice scenery golf course but it's not easy
I don't care if people don't say anything nice about my golf course I love working here
Great layout, maintained well. Excellent views

Great course. Very challenging!
Unbelievable views
Nice looking, challenging and well maintained course. Pace of play seems a bit slower than average.
Lovely golf course. Not far away. Not easy course for beginners.
great layout, combining links and traditional; no oppurtunity to visit clubhouse during round; only port-a-potties on the course
My choice of best in Morris County Park group... challenging, beautiful landscaping
Course condition was better than I expected. Greens were so fast. Friendly staffs.
