Reviews of Lakewood Golf Club
What a fun course!! Makes you feel like Tiger woods when you drive every other par 4. Had a blast with the friends and the rental set wasn't garbage either!!
Very nice course and best we have played in NOLA. The greens are very well maintained unlike many of the courses in the area. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. The only complaint I have is they don't offer any pull carts for rent. I hope they consider buying some soon as we like to walk.
4 stars by my criteria: within a reasonable LYFT ride from downtown, good greens, public course, $60 to $80 round, driving range (although limited to wedges due to rain), and challenging variety of holes. The course is pretty wide open and not a lot of penalty for off the fairways but still a challenge for mid- to low-handicappers. The greens had some occasional tufts of weeds but they putted true so no issue. Also really challenging greens… always fast, often dead straight, but occasionally some really subtle significant breaks. Really enjoyed both of my rounds and the pace of play was excellent. They seemed busy but still did 3.5 hour rounds or less.
Rating would be 5 stars but their on-line pricing is curious. No non-resident tee times before about 10 AM and they are asking for $100 (even on weekdays) from non-residents till 1 PM. If non-residents are your best rate, why would you restrict them? I played in the afternoon for $65 and $80 with fees and that was the right price for the course. If I had paid 100 for 11 AM, I would have been disappointed in the quality.
Only played a couple courses in the area, but generally I would say non-resident pricing compared to other places I play like Atlanta, DFW, PHX, and New England; that the rates for the quality were high. I suppose recent hurricanes and storms could be a factor that I’m not familiar with. Anyway, not a manicured country club but a fine public course. Could be a wonderfully manicured country club (and may have been in the past), but today it’s a solid public course.
Employees were great. Very helpful in trying to make my round a good experience. Grass in fairways dormant, but still very nice. Good layout without any silly surprises of bunkering and water on holes. Fast green with the correct amount of undulations to make putting a challenge.
I would recommend you try this course out. You won't be disappointed.
I always try to get a round at this course at every opportunity. Fun design, and challenging. Very relaxing feel to the layout, but complacency will definitely add at least one stroke to the hole. Staff is friendly, and helpful. Not too far from downtown New Orleans.
The course was in good condition, but could not be called challenging. There is no rough on the course, fairways are too large and water hazards are almost never in play except for some holes on the back nine. We paid 135$ for a green fee, which was definitely overpriced! The quality of the rental clubs was excellent however.
Greens were quick. Course wasn't bad. The fact that 2 separate groups jumped in front of us mid round was aggravating and almost confrontational. All because they didn't want to wait on the first tee. It's the Wild West over there. Sometimes you got to wait guys. Don't be impatient, you wouldn't be Happy if someone jumped in front of you.
Was used to playing the blues in Texas. The air is so heavy a 5 iron turned into a 3 wood real quick. Lol. The greens were in great shape and super fast. No cart girls though. Course needs to get that worked out. Other than that, good experience.
Course is in excellent shape. Challenging but fair. Defense of the course are the speed of the greens and the pin replacements. Better bring your short game with you to score well.
This is a beautifully laid out public course with a country club setting. Warning to people who come from up North: if your ball goes in some brush or near water, leave it and play another. This is the bayou and there is wildlife on the course (and I don't mean whitetail deer or chipmunks either).
Pretty much agree with the reviews. It's a fun cource for any skill level. Fair ways are in great shape, the greens are firm. You won't find divots. The staff is very friendly. Nothing but good things to say. I need to contrast this course to TPC. But if you are in the French Quarter looking for vacation golf. The distant and the cost make it pretty awesome, I don't think there's a better option. My rental clubs were a little funcky. But I stayed under my handicap so I ain't complaining.
I could rate this excellent. But I have played at the wynn in Vegas, which is 500 a round. So it isn't at that level. But the cost for what you are getting is. So go.
Wide open course. Non resident rate is steep but the food and beverage is reasonably priced.
Tee time was right on, marshall was courteous and helpful. Greens in great condition.
Pracitce and play here. Range is solid, a little short but the short game area is great.
The course is not to tough and is fun to play. Good players can go low. Nice staff
Good layout, flat as expected but enough water hazards to make it interesting. Love the fleur-de-lis shaped sand trap on #1
Great course smooth greens. Very helpful staff. Well kept sand traps
Links style course with long waist bunkers and a fair amount of water. Greens are firm and relatively fast maybe an 11 on the stemp
Great Staff, always friendly and remember me by name. They always have a smile for me. Thanks Lakewood!
With many hurricane damaged trees around the now quite open course, a wood-carver was commissioned to create life-like sculptures from some of the tree trunks - its worth paying a green fee just to see these carvings After the hurricane, the new owners (the Fire Dept Pension Fund), put out the threat of the course's extinction, while putting into the new layout several flame-shaped, fiery-red bunkers.
Greens were fast and fairways were dry. Nice course!
Solid layout . good winter conditions. Can't wait for warmer weather . Deceptively long.
Challenging course for all skill levels. When the greens dry out they get wicked fast. Stay out of the Red sand, bogeyville!
Best course on the best bank. Great staff and fast greens
Fun course with deep rough, it played as if the PGA tour stilled played there
Great team. Brought in a group of 8 military guys for a round. Treated us like kings. Thank you
Just a great place to play. I enjoy it every time. The staff is A+
Great practice facilities! Friendly staff! Awesome spot to play and improve your game!

Fantastic course, reasonably priced. Best greens on westbank
Nice, peaceful place to golf with the buddies. Very serene!
A bit overpriced for the condition of the course. The maintenance of the course has deteriorated.
Awesome experience. Great place to play when staying in NOLA!
