Reviews of Shelby Golf Course
Jesse Madsen
I noticed several "reviewers" below posting negative reviews based on the fact that they purposefully disobeyed or tried to circumvent course policy. The staff here has no authority or ability to invent/change city course rules. You do have to come with your own clubs, if you don't have a set - you can rent a set: you cannot share one set for two people, and definitely not three people! Further, a single player will likely be paired with others and groups of 5 are just not ever allowed, anywhere, regardless of specific course. Golf players should know these things. Negative reviews of the course and staff due to these reasons are just ridiculous and petty. This is a beautiful course, fun and challenging to play, and with a wonderful city staff/volunteers. The only negative (though also beyond staff control) is that the public has started using this as their public playground. Playing the course can be difficult at times, because people will randomly walk on course, lay out blankets and babies and prepare to have picnics or run their dogs through the greens. This is really dangerous, the people that enter the park are generally belligerent and think they have a right to be there, so trying to explain anything to them is pointless. The staff does their best to stop this from happening, but it's East Nashville. These people don't really listen.

Shelby Bottoms is great value for money. They offer cart and club rentals with 9 or 18 hole options. The clubhouse has a simple snack bar - drinks, beer, hot dogs, etc. - and the essentials - balls, tees, gloves, etc.
The course itself is fairly simple. My son and I played the front nine and most of the holes were straight on, maybe a slight dog-leg left or right. There are no particular hazards to speak of. No sand traps. No lakes or ponds. Just trees and brush. There are significant dips and inclines in the terrain which can make riding in the cart feel like a roller coaster ride.
My only concern was that many of the holes were next to each other going the opposite direction. Make sure to keep your eyes and ears open.

Fun and challenging course, very hilly but wide fairways. Price is decent. Only downside is Staff is less than friendly and a few usually act inconvenienced by customers. Great course for beginners or just Saturday golfers
Eduardo Karpat
Very pretty and well maintained local golf course.
Andrew Goodwyn
This place is closed for golfing after damage from the Tornado, but it is open to the public as a park. I love it so much here and I hope it never opens for golfing again so I can keep having picnics there.
Here are pictures I have taken there over the last 7 months. I just love it so much.

Averagely priced public golf courses near Downtown Nashville, right next to Shelby Park.
The greens are Bermuda grass and are in playable condition. There are a few better public courses in Nashville though.
The hilly terrain adds a lot of character and difficulty to the course. It also makes it very challenging to walkers especially on the first nine holes.
It is by and large a decent course for golfers on a budget.

Father and in law was in town for business. We showed up on a Sunday morning at 9am looking to walk on without any expectations of being able to play. We were made aware there was a cancellation and we’re able to start playing right away, huge relief! Great friendly service all around and very accommodating.
Course was in good shape and we really enjoyed the round! Up/down course with some decent variety. Fun course, especially for the price. Will definitely be back
Ben Moore
Loved this course and Calvin was a great guy to work with! Super hilly, several completely blind shots into the green, and the back 9 features a couple of long par 5s and a longer par 4 to wrap up your round.
The Flourish
At almost 100 years old this is still somehow in my honest opinion the best course in the metro area
The staff is al ays awesome, the greens are perfect and it's honestly just a joy to be in the middle of the city and completely forget about it because it's so beautiful and serene.
If you're visiting and staying downtown it's a super short Uber and I 100% recommend you check it out.

This golf course is very well maintained, and the staff are friendly. The greens are challenging, as many of them are fast and sloped. The water
I'm leaving two stars off because the course is not interesting, and it's only slightly aesthetically pleasing. Most of the holes are quite forgettable. Also, they will pair you with strangers every time, even when they aren't busy. I'd rather not play with strangers when I seldomly get the chance to play. I probably will not be back.
Brandon Stewart
Alright golf course. Charged me 40 bucks cash and said their machine was down then came out on a cart 3 different times to hound us when we were making fine time. Fellas really don't know how to just let people golf. Decently kept but not worth that price.
Jarrod Vestal
The conditions have been getting better over the last few years. Some of the tee boxes and greens need some work. Really beautiful area. Pretty easy to get in and the manager is great.
Shazman Ali
Very friendly staff, beautiful golf course, and unbeatable price!
Louis Lester Jr
Best shape I've seen here. Daryl and crew have made major improvements here. Also great value.
Stephen Artz
I just played their yesterday. The staff was friendly. I enjoyed the course riding a cart. Its kept up well as are all the courses here in Nashville. They get a lot of rain and their well mowed. The course has some interesting holes. I would say that it was hilly and you need a cart. The greens were slow but not beat up.
Jerry M
Great experience, friendly staff at a good price and close to downtown Nashville. I don't usually go to a golf course without a tee time, but this was a last minute decision and they sent us out right away. The fairways and greens were in good shape. ( If you like fast greens)
David Burkhardt
Because this is not a 5 star course means nothing. A municipal course that is what you'd expect. Fair price, average course conditions but a challenging layout, friendly staff that are willing and ready to serve. A very pleasant experience. If you're a golf snob that wants Augusta National for 25 bucks please stay away, if you're an average golfer looking for a fun and accommodating place to play, then you'll like it here.
Casey McManus
Had a great time on this lovely course! Saw many dear, found many balls. Great rates, but definitely going to be feeling in the legs tomorrow, I recommend a cart.
Alexander Johnson
Really nice course! There is a good combination of long drives (360 yards) and smaller tighter more technical 180 yard holes. All for only $14 including the kart per person. They do not allow sharing clubs but if you don't have a set they can rent you some for 12 dollars.
Robert Eslick
Oldest course in Nashville. Small greens, lots of elevation change.
Matt Haskell
Shelby is great if you know what to expect. It's a municipal course that's the closest course to downtown, with a fabulous staff and older infrastructure. The greens can be great in summer, but it's winter greens in colder months. Fluffy rough, narrow fairways (single line irrigation), and lots of leaves in the fall will make you prioritize finding the fairway. If you take yourself too seriously, go someplace else please.
Richard Dorland
Played course last Friday and WOW what a change from 2 years ago. The course will test your ability while having great fun. One of the better kept secrets on Nashville public golf courses. A must for and fun loving golfer.
Truth Seeker
Golf course is in pretty good shape sometimes you have to get here super early just to play staff is friendly remember though this is the only course really close to downtown so its always gonna be busy it's late aug of 2019 and it's looking nice go out soon before its winter
Richard Harbin
Great condition. Rough was a little rough. That's why you hit the fairway right? lol
Greens were great and the staff was awesome.
A little hilly but if you want a flat course go to Indiana...
Gary Hebb
Shelby is really improving, greens rolling good, fewer trees on some holes, pace of play was good for a Sunday.
Kevin David
Harder than it looks. Great value. Lot of small elevated greens and big hills. Don't go over the green on elevated green holes, as it is hard to stop the ball on the green with a flop shot.
Tyler Cordell
It’s a metro course and it’s fantastic for affordable golf and amateur players. Challenging to play because of the hills. Beer at clubhouse.
Ron Mayfield
Always been a favorite course. I learned the game there. If you can play Shelby, you can play anywhere. Uphill lies, downhill lies. Great place to play.
Weppenger
Me, alone, stuck behind 4 players on the 7th Tee, with two other groups waiting with me to tee off. Obviously a busy day, but the attendees refused available options accommodating single players.
TWayne Day
Played 18 in 4.5 hours. Course is in great shape. If you like variety, Shelby should be on your play list.
Michelle Smith
This is a very nice friendly course. They serve the BEST hot dogs. It was a beautiful day and we laughed so much. Great day!!
Krystal Turner
Staff was super helpful and friendly!! Course was beautiful a bit challenging with hills but still alot of fun!
Paul Soya
It is a little brown at this point in the season but it is playable
Guttripper
Friendly staff, in good condition considering weather of late and time of year. Not very challenging but reasonable.
Levi Holloway
Can't beat the price, greens are 10x better than before covid.
Amanda Jane DeWeese
I haven't golfed their but I have trekked the bottoms and played frisbee golf
Patti Kirts
Greens in good shape, fairways nicely mowed.,tees are a little hard.
Bill Zoeller
Greens & tees are good but between the two is not in great shape.
