Reviews of McCabe Golf Course
As a whole, I give the facility 4 stars. The course itself I would probably only give 3 stars, but the practice facilities make up for this. The course is actually three separate 9-hole courses, and playing 18 is pretty cheap and not a bad deal given that the course isn't in terrible condition. The only thing I really don't like is that the course is incredibly easy (slope is like 114 I think). It's also pretty short (~6000 from the tips). Still, it's in my backyard, so it's nice to always have the option. You shouldn't be disappointed given the price—just don't be expecting St. Andrews.
Cheerfully,
Clayton Cohn
It's hard to rate McCabe properly because we went while it was officially closed, so it was free, but we had to walk it.
The course was good, quality, & playable, but not gorgeous. I would return, but I don't know what costs are so I can't rate that part.
Enjoyable golf experience at a Metro run course. Three 9 hole tracks plus driving range and putting green. Full service snack bar. All the staff is very nice. Plenty of parking and restrooms are clean.
This community golf course is the perfect place to practice at the driving range and not feel self conscious. Enjoy the space and greenery while you practice that swing.
This park is a beautiful area. The green parkway is gorgeous and it's a great mixture of sun and shade. The people are super friendly as well. Highly recommend for a morning walk or run.
I am a longtime fan of McCabe golf for its available 27 hole offering, about 10 minutes from my house and a very playable course. Recently, however, my golf buddies and I have selected Harpeth Hills and Ted Rhodes for their more challenging yardage, but also because both are in much better condition than McCabe.
A lot can be blamed on the pandemic, but the abysmal condition of the McCabe courses compared to the others has preexisted COVID 19. My understanding is that McCabe is the busiest of all Metro courses and likely the greatest golf revenue source for Metro Parks as a result. And while all have suffered from a lack grill service, the most obvious differences are on the course. The fairways are in much better shape on the two we now play and the sand traps (which of course I try to avoid) are worse than a child’s neglected sandbox. Fabric shows through in of many them, weeds invade the space and new sand has not been added in years, that I can tell. One person at Harpeth told me that sand traps are one of the most expensive maintenance items on a golf course. I have no idea if that’s true, but it certainly shows up at McCabe.
An ill-conceived priority of Metro Parks occurred when they appropriated new greens for Harpeth, Ted Rhodes and perhaps Two Rivers, leaving out McCabe, Percy Warner and Shelby, as I understand it. The wisdom of such a priority escapes me. Only a misdirected herbicide applied to all 27 greens at McCabe finally resulted in greens that are equivalent to others. Yet, all one had to do is walk McCabe prior to this catastrophe and come to the inescapable conclusion that McCabe should’ve been on that priority list. The busiest Metro course results in the most abuse.
A recent News Channels 5 investigation points the mismanagement of the Metro golf system and the lost opportunities in increasing revenue to Metro Parkland the city. It brings to mind an old adage: “You’ve got spend money to make money”. I understand the city has wide and competing priorities, but recreation here for our growing metropolitan area should not be overlooked. -js
My favorite place for jogging. The paved walking way surrounding the golf course opens 24/7
Love this local course so much! Me and a couple buddies play here almost weekly and have for years. For how much play the course gets the greens are in great condition and the staff is always so nice. Pace of play is slow, but it’s not the courses fault. Mostly due to it being the most popular nashville course. I would definitely recommend!
Good municipal course in the middle of the city. 27 holes is nice as they offer a "walk-up 9" available to those without a tee time. When busy, most will pair up with 1's and 2's to make a 3-4some. The course shape has never been elite and it probably won't be. Slow play is frequent as there are many new golfers trying for the first time. It's a great after-work course to hit a quick 9 or somewhere to take your inexperienced friends.
Nice municipal course. The fairways are open, greens roll well, and it's pretty cheap. Having 27 holes makes it easy to just show up and play with no tee time. It's not a challenging course by any means, but can still offer an enjoyable round of golf.
Leisurely, stress-free walks. Loved it
Great place to play a round or two. Very friendly staff, wide fairways, great tee boxes and tricky greens. Loads of fun for low to high handicappers. Another 18 tomorrow and I will defeat the greens for sure.
The 9 hole course is great for those not taking their round too seriously, with mostly open fairways with few trees.
This is a great place to play golf
It is a good Metro Nashville Course. The weekday rates are a fair rate for the area. The course has 3- 9 hole course so it can handle a lot of golfers at once. The course was in good shape with few bare spots in the rough. The course is pretty short and not very challenging. It is a great course for golfers of all levels
Amazing public course. The staff is always helpful, the range and chipping greens are always well maintained. Very fun flat beginner course. Always enjoy playing here.
If you are a scratch or a beginner this place offers in the middle of our great city. A 27 hole golf course a separate putting green a separate chipping green an a driving range .I think that the max distance on the range is about 300yds. The people that work there are all about helping people learn all phases of the game .The facility is spot on in the maintenance dept an the food is hot fresh an quick also very good. The staff behind the counter will gladly share their professiomal knowledge of the game. It's very inexpensive. That means not much money golfers thanks
Very fun and challenging course. The North 9 are walking only and the Middle and South courses are tee time only at the present moment. Have fun and let it rip!!!
The walk up course of course was backed up at the first tee, on a beautiful Saturday morning but by hole three, the pace had thinned out a bit. It's a nice value course to get in some work. There's a nice variety in hole length but they're all pretty straight with minimal hazards of which to be wary.
Just finished 18 at McCabe GC (Middle & North courses) This was my first experience at this facility and my partner & I were blown away. First rate course with beautiful well maintained fairways and fast greens. The course is challenging without being demonic. We had a blast and we will be back.
Excellent club house and fairways but the greens looked like they were in a hail storm. I have never seen greens that are not never repaired from wedge shots on the green. If they greens were smooth, this would be a nice course. I like the 3 9-hole concept.
Easy course, greens aren't in good shape, often incredibly crowded and backed up, and bucket of balls is expensive. But they do have three 9-hole courses and the food and drinks are cheap. Good for weekdays as it isn't as crazy.
27 holes but probably the busiest Muni in Nashville. Very playable course, is fairly flat so it's quite walkable. They have pushcarts if you need one. They have a driving range. Costs around $40 to play 18 holes with a cart. They have a nice little practice area with a large practice green and a chipping/pitching green with a sandtrap. They have tournaments occasionally so it's best to call first. Get a tee time if you can. They dedicate 18 to tee times and use the other 9 for walk-ups but there is a little flexibility on weekdays.
Great Metro public links. 27 holes suitable for all skill levels.
Was there for a memorial service. Nice and clean. Very nice of them to allow a service esp. Considering the deceased was an avid golfer there. McCabe has always been a very important part of west nashville.
Great range, 27 holes, and decent traffic. It's just a municipal course though so it can be rough around the edges. Especially in the afternoon with hundreds of divots and ball marks.
for as much as this course is played it's actually in great shape. Very good price, can sometimes be busy but that's just a product of location.
3 different well-maintained nine hole courses, a driving range and chipping and putting greens, not too crowded and all at a reasonable price. Can't ask for much more for public city golf.
luv this course!! fun to play.
Great public course with 27 holes, nice clubhouse, driving range, practice green. The greens are usually well maintained.
This is our go-to Golf course on a nice Saturday morn. Very clean, nice prices and a fresh green.
Good course for the money. Nice greens and challenging for handicap in the teens and above. Short enough to score and make yourself feel good
I enjoy the walk trail and the Beautiful dogs that I see walking with their parents
whole course and range is closed on a 50° day, for no reason. no plans to reopen anytime soon. confusing
Course is in great shape. Always busy but able to play 18 in 3 hours and 20 minutes.
The course was very simple. Open fairways. Baffled why sprinklers going after a day of hard rain. Made some areas swampy that would not be other wise.
Good muni course that is kept in decent shape. The greens are firm but smooth.
Nice view
Great staff, well maintained, lots of holes to keep it interesting, nice driving range, well priced.
Great value, nice course. Most convenient option in the area and the driving range is well orchestrated.
I love to go here and run the greenway that surrounds the the golf course. It's pretty and well kept.
Good municipal course. Can be crowded and slow especially on the walk up nine where group size is rarely regulated.
The range is nice. You have to pay at the clubhouse first before you can get your balls though
Website says club rentals are $12. At the window they said they in fact don’t rent clubs. Website needs to be updated. Very frustrating to waste time like that.
Not bad for the price. Nice and helpful staff. Great course to walk.
Beautiful course very well maintained! Open fairways but challenging!
Wonderful golf course always meet interesting people every time I play
Great open course and the food is very well priced. I love coming here
Beautiful grounds, great staff and offers 3 9-hole courses.
Metro course that feels like a semi-private. Usually very busy at peak golfing hours.
Good public course. Short but still challenging. Fair price.
They keep nine holes open for walk-ins with no tee time required
Clean, well maintained, moderate traffic. Good for running, walking, and biking.
Always in excellent shape. Fun track. Nice staff
