Reviews of The Club at Lac La Belle
Sharon Cromeans
Spectacular golf course!! Great condition, tough greens. Firm fairways! Beautiful course. Staff was awesome. Kind courteous and respectful. We loved this golf day!! Many thanks to a top notch facility and staff. The Rivalry pub was excellent Madison did a great job serving us! We hope to come back
Mark McCorkel
I just finished the back 9 at The Club at Lac La Belle...and wow, what a course!
Due to all the rain, it was walking only and all the traps were GUR (all washed out). I was hoping to make it all 18, but my feet said otherwise. I'll deffinatly be back to see the front 9 tho!
I can definitely see this place finding its way into the 100 once it's had time to grown in and mature. All around an incredible club.
They have future plans to build cottages for stay and play packages. Until then, it's a great place to spend a day!
Oh, their driving range is top knotch as well as their 18 hole putting course!
Joe Schroeder
This place is off the charts awesome. One of the best golfing experiences I have had when traveling. The course is meticulously maintained and every hole is scenic and takes on a it's own personal identity. Staff was off the charts professional, while having fun personalities to make you feel welcomed.

Beautiful setting for a wedding! Quiet, isolated spot for the ceremony. Reception area in the Carriage House, has open space, natural light and later - seating near the fire to wind down a bit. And yes, that is Donald Driver at the wedding giving a toast! Congrats to Pat & John on tying the knot!
Mike Toothman
Flew in from San Diego just to play this course. Was not disappointed. The layout is perfect, every hole is so different. Met the Director of Golf Clint Higgins ,he and his staff were exceptional. First class operation. A must play when traveling to Wisconsin.

Played here for the first time in 2021. Had a great experience on the course and in the restaurant. Heard there was some (significant) renovations to the course/club. All I can say about that is that it was effort well spent. This was one of my top courses played in recent years.
Also, did Mark Tauscher say hey to us in that sand trap…!?
J. Landon Frye
Myself and 15 friends and family members played for 2 days this weekend at The Club. It was a suburb outing environment. The course is immaculate, especially the greens. A world class greenside and putting experience that rivals Sand Valley to the north, for much more value. The course has some difficulty and leaves you want to play it again. Staff and experience was great to handle a big group, have tables for us in Pub after golf and works with us on a few things. Keep it up. Will return!
Nick Nelson
This is a fantastic golf course that requires skill and imagination. The greens are bold and allow for numerous pin positions that can really change the strategy of a hole. The conditions are great and no two holes are alike. After the round grab a beer and take a spin on the putting course. Fantastic overall golf experience and I would recommend it to anyone.
Jonathan Stark
Lac la belle was a very nice course. Expensive to say the least. Probably to nice for my taste. Facilities were top notch. Staff was friendly and helpful. The course on the other hand was a beast. The greens-were as hard as concrete and very fast. It was a very difficult track. Probably won’t come back. But if you want to experience a links style course and wanna drop some cash this is your best bet aside from Erin hills.
Nathan Cote
Played this course for the first time in July (22’) and I was instantly a fan. There’s so many different ways to play each hole and you truly have to think about where you want to be on each tee shot. The greens are tiered (severely) but manageable and if you play from the correct tees you have opportunities for red numbers.
Steve Weissmann
Beautiful golf course that feels very much like a private course. Lots of bunkers, but they play as they should, as they are well maintained with actual sand and not just a dusting over dirt. The only downside is the greens fees are a bit pricey. Watch for wild turkeys on the course. We saw a bunch of them.
John Brand
What an awesome course! I’ve played Pinehurst #2 and the Ocean course at Kiawah this year and this was just as enjoyable as those. The course is in immaculate condition. I wish I lived closer so that I could play here more often.
Richard Kuiper
This is a five-star facility in every category. The renovation puts this in the top 3% of any golf course in Wisconsin including private clubs. The golf course, practice facilities, amenities, personnel staff at every level; first class all the way. I promise, you won’t be disappointed. A must play! What a gem!!!!
Derek Theisen
Nice course and layout, but to charge $110 (walking) to play on punched and heavily top-dressed greens with no warning on the website or booking page is unacceptable.
paul lechiara
Best public course I probably have ever played. Be prepared to putt on fast greens that break in all directions. Staff was extremely friendly. If I come back to Milwaukee I will definitely play here again.
Thomas Edwards
I've played a lot.of golf courses over my life. Lac La Belle will go down as a Top 5 Wisconsin Course for me.
Truly enjoyed my round
The greens... Insanely large!
I might look into a membership now.

If you are looking for one of the finest golf experiences in the World, then I strongly recommend The Club at Lac La Belle. I have been blessed to get to play at first class golf courses all over and this beauty may just top them all! I will be traveling from Texas just to play here many more times. Wow, just wow!
Ryne Somers
What an awesome golf course and facilities! I will start by saying this is one I would recommend to anyone, but I do have some constructive criticism to offer that makes this a 5-star review easily. The course, staff, facilities, etc. were all top notch.
1. We played after a night of heavy rains, the course sits low and doesn't really have cart paths so it was walking only - which I'm more than OK with. However, we arrived at 9:15am and there were no pull carts left. While I usually carry anyway, the guys I played with certainly would have liked a pull cart. With the renovations I expect you'll see a number of traveling players parlaying a trip to Erin, Kohler, Lawsonia, Sand Valley, etc. and likely not bringing their own pull carts. Could use a few more on site as I imagine carts are not allowed with even a bit of rain. The course is not a difficult walk, which is nice!
2. There are seemingly no (or VERY few) trash cans out on the golf course - particularly on the front. Perhaps this was storm-related, but this was one thing our group noticed very clearly. Particularly when there is quite a bit of walking play (i.e. can't keep trash in a cart) I would think this is an easy fix that's best for everyone.
3. This is a very fun golf course with some unique challenges, but think you would be doing players a service by offering a hole map or reference either on the scorecard or at the tee. I do not recall seeing a yardage book in the pro shop, but would recommend you start advertising those a bit more. There are some really cool holes out here that have blind tee shots, but it was quite frustrating to hit a good drive up the right side of the fairway on 3 only to walk up and find out there's a hazard out of view from the tee that stretches across the entire hole. That's a longer par 4 for the course so it seems to invite driver, unless you know there's a hazard you can't see - I'll be in better shape on my second round out there but help out the newbies! 6 was another headache as you don't have much reference as to where you run out of room and what lines you can take on (as the fairway runs at an angle from the tee with hazard/fescue protecting the near side the length of the hole. There are some other blind tee shots or second shots that think pace of play and player experience would be much improved by having some reference of what the hole looks like going in.
4. This one I saved for the fourth hole - please put that pin in the back right collection area as much as possible. This is a cool looking hole from the tee that requires a good shot in, but there are so many tiers that even a good shot (20 feet from the hole) can either roll away to 60 feet or you're grinding out a par putting up or down a tier or two. Reward good shots! There are no other gimmicky holes out there so this one stood out - all the others are a completely fair test with challenging (but fair) green complexes to help protect scores. This should be taken as an insignificant gripe because the other 17 holes are wonderful :)
You guys have an absolute gem here and the renovations have offered best in class facilities. Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see you soon!
Peter Harper
Beautiful course with challenging greens. Many thanks to Katie for the great service and conversation out on the course. I look forward to my next trip to Wisconsin so I can play it again!
Damon Baldwin
Beautiful course that is very appealing to the eye. Great design with tee boxes and combos for all skill levels. Greens were amazing and offered some of the most fun and challenging putts I've seen all year in the area. Eye catching facilities with top notch service. The clubhouse is decorated with lots of historic golf memorabilia and gives it a classy, old-school atmosphere. The food was fantastic as well with a menu that wasn't too overwhelming but offered plenty of options. I didn't drink any myself this time, but I did see plenty of their "la belle lager" being sold and consumed so it is obviously a hit. Definitely a place I will be recommending and returning to as often as possible. I do believe that time will do nothing but elevate and enrich this course and it will become a "must go" staple for golfers in the Wisconsin area.
Nate Hoffman
Amazing place. Golf is fantastic and the restaurant after had amazing food and even more fun on the putting course after was so much fun. We will be back soon and often.
Wes Steege
The remodel at Lac la Belle is phenomenal! The addition of the 4 new holes and the changes to the existing course have made this aging beauty amazing again. A must play for any golf enthusiast!
Paul Quella (PQ5876)
Super fun, but needs more maturing. Difficult to get between holes. Cart paths and routing don't mesh. Will get better.
Joe Shipley
Absolutely stunning course! I treated myself to a round for my birthday and it was worth every penny. Easily in my top 3 courses in Wisconsin! Staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the facilities were top notch. 18 holes wasn’t enough… I’ll be back soon.
Thomas Gwitt
Played this course twice over the 4th holiday. What an amazing track!!! The course is in impeccable condition, the staff was friendly, the club house and amenities are exceptional. Heck, even the porch just before you make it to the practice range begs you to buy an icy cold one to start the round!!! There are enough open holes where you can grip and rip it and plenty of holes you have to think about from the tee. The perfect mix between the two!!Not to mention the huge undulating greens! A must play if you are any where near Oconomowoc, I know I'll be back for sure!!
Brenden Lautenbach
Everything about this place is five stars. From when you first arrive to the moment you leave. Friendly staff, top-notch amenities and world-class golf. Lac La Belle has it all. If you are big into American golf history the golf architecture and memorabilia inside the club house just makes the experience that much better. Throw in a 15-hole, putting course to end your round with a Spotted Cow in hand and there are only a handful of places in the Midwest where you want to spend the whole day on the grounds. Second year playing and will be back for more to come.
James Davis
One of the finest golf courses in Wisconsin. The greens are very Undulated. Not long, but tough. The course is in pristine shape. The staff and the environment are top notch, led by the director of golf Clint Higgins. It is a truly historic golf treasure in Wisconsin.
David Guagliardo
It was my first time there. Course was in great shape and challenging. The greens provide alot of drama. Very clean with country club feel. Workers were very friendly. Great Pub to visit after round.
Aaron Simonis
Fantastic course! Every blade of grass was in the right place. The entire staff was great, from the bag drop guys, the starter, the cart girls, to the bartenders at the pub. Everyone was friendly. Definitely will be back!
Lawrence Hollis
Always a pleasure to play here. Greens r roll fast and true with lots of undulations. GPS was slightly off from my rangefinder but all in all a great day of golf.
Harrison E
The best course in the Waukesha area. The price may seem steep, but the value is incredible. It is a country club experience at a course with a very interesting history. There is no better golf experience in the area than The Club at Lac La Belle!
Jim Panther
Thoroughly stimulating round. Course calls for some committed tee balls and creative approaches. Greens roll true but nothing lightning quick, unless you’re down one of the big slopes used by Haltom. Played a Sunday late PM to twilight round and not many else out…still a hidden secret?
Mike Ebert
Live a couple miles from course. Played it during 2021 and just played it again today. Top notch venue, course, practice facility, and service all the way around. We played after overnight rains and course was still playing pretty fast. Only criticism would be some of the stretches of cart paths are very bumpy with potholes. I'm sure with time they will be paved.
Randall Yale
Lac La Belle was an awesome course, challenging but it is in fantastic condition. Facilities are new and the putting green set up is fun and simulates the actual greens. Please speed up the golf carts…haha
Ben Hardin
We had great interaction with every staff member we encountered and had a great experience! You can tell a lot of hard work and effort has went into making this golf course a full experience that sets it apart!
Travis Pronschinske
The course was amazing. Food was spectacular. Was very impressed how they integrated some of the old course with the new redesign. A true challenge!
Mark Gorski
Great day at a beautiful course. Amazing greens and views! Rivalry Pub after was fantastic. Cannot wait for the next round.
Rob Sheehy
Friendly staff, challenging layout, course was in great shape for early fall. A great golf experience!
Mike Lietke
My golf partner and I thoroughly enjoyed the course, and the facilities and staff were top notch. We will visit again
Gerard Adler
The course is beautiful. It’s the first time I have played it since the renovation. It had rained the day before so golf cars were not allowed. The tees, fairways & greens were in excellent shape for mid-October. The practice tee is excellent as well. I found the reservation system worked well. The pro shop personnel were professional and courteous. Our group of 7 had an excellent outing, & will return.
Matthew Gocker
Very solid and challenging course. Service is worthy of 5 stars but price point on this course drops it down a star. The Links at Lawsonia is under $100 and a top 100 course in the US ....I can't justify this course at $160 knowing that. American Dunes in Michigan had a similar rebuild but by Jack Nicklaus....similar price point and infinitely better course in my opinion.
Anthony Viera
We love this place. Play here 3-4x a summer. Such a great facility and experience for top level public golf in SE Wisconsin/Lake Country. Course is always in good shape and the 12 minute spaced tee times ensures minimal waiting on holes. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. If you get the chance go check if out.
Ken Notson
Fun course in great shape. Difficult greens but fair and true. Rolling terrain makes for a beautiful experience. Pricey but a good treat.
Dan Giampetroni
Wow. Great shape. Green are very tricky.
Jordon Katz
Course is very interesting, each hole has its own distinct character. Course is very well taken care. Greens have a lot of undulation and are fast.
Clubhouse is very nice and well appointed. Nice amenities. We ate lunch at the clubhouse, the food was quite good. The outdoor patio and dining area provides beautiful views of the course.
Definitely will have a return trip!
Derek Schreiber
Great course and mildly difficult. It's still in the last stages of being fully grown in but it's looking great. The service was very good and friendly as well. We golfed on father's day so expected a higher rate but I believe was worth it. Carts have GPS and very comfortable, was about 3-5 yards over/under the distance gun so pretty accurate. Can request drinks from cart as well, came about a hole or two after requested. The food was very good, and the Lac la Belle City Lights lager is very good as well (brewed just for the course).
Took one star away because the cart paths are all gravel or mud which made for a messy ride, so I'd recommend paving the cart paths for a better experience.
the Riche
Amazing course. No carts made it difficult. No water on the course made it more difficult. But the course itself was really cool albeit a bit pricey.
John Reich
Great course. Well maintained and the staff were awesome. Unique holes create an accessible course for your average golfer.
Nathaniel Boos (Zapp560)
This was my first time back since the redesign of the course. And man was I blown away. An absolute beautiful redesign that still has reminders of the old holes, but improved. The greens are among the most challenging greens I've had the pleasure to play on. I stopped in the newly remodeled bar after and wow. The food was amazing. The floor to ceiling windows that completely open to the patio makes for a great place to relax after a good or in my case bad round of golf. Its high for my budget to playing a regular basis, but I will definitely try to make it here once a year at least.
Justin Quick
What an amazing golf experience! Incredibly friendly and helpful staff this morning. Everyone working there took pride in the course and clubhouse and greeted us with helpful conversation. The course was in phenomenal shape, and there was plenty of bottled water on a 95 degree day with no clouds. The decor in the clubhouse was on trend and the lunch was satisfying and affordable. The merch game in the pro shop was Strong! Overall great experience and well worth the drive from Chicago. Erin Who?
Jess Jansen
This course has always held a special place in my heart. It will always be hallowed ground, to me. The redesign is absolutely spectacular, Its hard to find the words.... Familiar at times, surprises abound. It just makes sense, and I loved every minute of it. The greens are as tough as anywhere in the world, the fairways are accommodating, and seemingly made of carpet. If you pair all of that, with the most friendly, and welcoming staff, you are assured a perfect golfing experience. I didn't particularly play well, but I'll remember this day forever. I hope to be back many more times. Thank you, and Cheers!!!
Vic Bianchini
One of the most beautiful and enjoyable golf courses I've ever played. Most of the holes would be the signature hole at other golf courses. Very fair off the tee, wonderful bunkers, the sand looked like the sand at Augusta National.
The greens were large and undulating, but very playable. Best golf course I've played within a two and a half hour drive of Chicago.

Jon Poletti
Great new layout and the course is really growing in well. It's an awesome walk and a perfect blend of modern golf and classic design. If I lived in the area I'd seriously consider joining.
The new ownership has shown that they will do what it takes to make this course the success that it could always be. Extensive work like this takes time to settle in, but the course is already a joy to play and will only get better and better as time goes on.
The new event center is incredible as well!
A gem once lost has been re-found and polished to shining glory!
Ken Hoffmann
Really enjoyed this course. Country club experience all around. Unique layout that you need to see more than once.
Jon France
I agree with most of the reviews already posted. I thought the course-especially the first 4 holes that are new-needs some maturing, but the rest seemed like it was in great shape. I don’t know much about golf course design but I though the course was tough but fair. The greens were particularly fun because of their size and undulations. The biggest criticism I’d offer is that my wife and I walked and often had no idea what club to hit because there are little to no yardage indicators on the course. I found maybe a handful of 150 yard markers but they were set into the ground and difficult to see. For a course that has alignment rods on it’s practice facility, I’d at least expect a 150 yard stake on each hole. Really, there should be yardages throughout on sprinkler heads though and if they’re out there I didn’t see them. This was made worse by the course not showing up on my golf shot app, which I usually use for yardages. Having said that, though, I’ll definitely be back, except we’ll ride because the carts did seem pretty awesome.
Jeff Boss
I've now played the course four times since it was remodeled, and am continuously impressed by it. This latest round, I brought three friends who have never played it before, and they too were impressed by it. The course is establishing nicely - the maintenance was excellent and the new layout is beautiful and challenging.
Service levels are attentive, professional, welcoming and courteous... And, these are the best riding carts in the business.
Kudos to the team for everything that has been done here.
wesley muehl
New layout very good. Conditioning good. Greens are over the top. Too serve. Took away some of the fun and skill.
Scott Powell
Course was in great condition and really starting to fill in. Greens cut tight and should really speed up as they dry out. Bunkers were well conditioned but sand a little heavy yet as to be expected this time of year. You can tell the drainage is working. Will be playing here a lot this year and really liking the new design more each time I play it. Lastly, staff was very pleasant and helpful at each point of contact. Well trained and you can tell their attitude is “we want you to play golf here and have a great experience!”
Walter Ziaja
Fabulous course played all over the world this is one of the finest very friendly atmosphere a must play for anyone that knows golf
cayce doran
Course was in great condition. Greens were moving quick!!! Great staff and layout.
william penn
Tight fairways, beautiful course, extremely challenging greens that are in great shape, very fast with lots of contours, levels.
Roric G
This was my third time playing the course since it reopened last year. You can start to see how it is growing into form now. It has an interesting layout with some risk reward plays almost every other hole. The greens reputation is still valid: they are the size of Rhode Island each hole, some with insane tiers that a first timer will learn to remember, and play very true as they are firm and rolled smooth. Modern carts with USB ports, formed leather seating.
Patrick Hyland
Just had a great experience at Lac La Belle. Challenging but fair course and helpful staff. I will recommend this course to all my golfing buddies...
Anthony
Lac La Belle club is esthetically amazing and its clear there are still some areas on work to be done. Greens incredibly fast and roll true and lovely to even be on but extremely hard to read and execute good putts! Overall great experience and great hospitality. In current conditions could be a little lighter on the wallet!
Chris MacKenzie
My experience at The Club at Lac La Belle was wonderful. The golf course was immaculate, along with all of the facilities. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. Will be back the next time I get the chance!
John Jajich
The course is in fantastic condition. The fairways are plush, the bunkers are groomed with fine white sand, and the greens are immaculate. The experience is well worth the $.
Alkesh Patel
Visiting from Chicago. Great course. Tough greens. 2nd shot in is key to score. Will be back!!
Dan Orna
Really enjoyed the course. Greens have some really tough hills, but are fun. Need to pave the cart path which they plan on doing this winter. Food at the turn was great (turkey wrap), but the turkey club after the round was lackluster.
Peter Harrison Jr
Enjoyed the course layout. Each hole had its own character/unique feel. Fairly certain I used all 14 clubs in my bag-which is a plus in my mind. I highly recommend giving The Club at Lac La Belle a try. Hard to imagine this is the first full season of play.
Steve Hansen
Great time! The whole facility is set up for a good round. Nice practice range, lots of fun holes with some challenging greens. Lastly theres a great patio to enjoy a post round beverage and then and excellent 18 hole putting challenge.
Dennis Kasian
I am a senior with a 22 handicap. I only played the front nine. However I am a former golf course owner and former bonded, certified golf course contractor. The turf on the course was in very good shape. The sand in the bunkers was the best.. Green to next tee locations was very good. I did not care for the excessive slopes on the putting services. to me it is way over the top. I did not like many of the site lines. Granted the GPS in the carts lets you know what is coming up, but I prefer seeing my ball proceed to it's next lie, In my opinion there are to many fairway bunkers. Also I believe the greens fees are to high.
Mike Juneau
My son and I played 18 with a cart, 300+ dollars total. Everything was amazing! Course, staff, cart and clubhouse are all what you'd expect for the price. While the course is challenging, I believe any skill level can play here. My son is in the Navy and will be leaving soon, so we're booking another round next week before he leaves.
Keith Williams
Wow - great fun.
This course has re-opened after a 2 year renovation. If you like highly undulating greens you’ll love it.
Tip 1 - Get a cart. Yes, you can walk. If you really want to walk get a caddie to drive the cart. By the 18th you’ll be glad that you did.
Tip 2 - Go early in the day. There is an amazing putting course that’s great fun for settling bets and/or making new bets after the round. The putting course even has drink holders.
The restaurant has good food and is also worth the stop.
Drinks cart continuously circles the course.
If you are coming in from out of the area you might consider to add a second day to go ply Erin Hills which is reasonably close.
Jeff Brown
First time playing Lac la Belle, one very good golf hole after another. The green complexes and bunkering shows very well and truly presents a pretty golf course. It plays fair and is very hard to loose a golf ball. The conditions are very good for any course let alone one in its second season. This is now one of the best I’ve played in Wisconsin.
Raelyn Wilson
Incredible customer experience. Every employee clearly loves what they do and that shows from the pro shop to the course to the pub. Beautiful, challenging, well-run course. Can’t wait to come back!
Larry Janisewski
Spectacular! The course is in great shape.
The greens are very rolling and tiered but I loved putting on themand did quite well.
The only drawback is I think it is a little pricey. However it is the nicest course I've played.
Michael Mack
Great course. The condition continues to improve. Really fun greens. My only criticism is the micromanagement. Golfers who pay $150 per round typically respect the rules and guidelines of a premium course. The withholding of cart keys until your tee time and overly sensitive cart geofencing took away from the experience.
Michael Poletti
The Club at Lac La Belle is a true golfers paradise. From the moment you step on property until the moment you leave, the experience is top notch! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the golf course is nothing short of Championship quality! One of the most challenging yet fun golf courses in Wisconsin, with unique greens and impeccable conditions.
Isaac Strand
Always a great experience, I worked with the staff set up a company outing there and they was more than accommodating to what our group needed and the course is in great shape.
William Gergen
Great time. Ranger on the course would be a good idea. One walking foursome playing from the wrong tees were sloooowwwww. Finally let two twosomes play through at the turn.
Oh, and my buddy had to rent clubs and they were fine except… left handed 5 iron. Oops. Might want to correct that.
But we had a great time. Course is a real challenge.
Mike Fritz
Beautiful setting, course is coming into its own. Played it last October and it continues to improve. Challenging and enjoyable all in one!
Andrew Steinman
Great golf experience! Course is amazing and staff is equally great!
Richard Borman
Played for the first time after hearing about the transformation of the club. WOW!! The huge undulating greens and high quality bunkers are certainly highlights but the whole day was outstanding. The service, hospitality and food were great as well. Looking forward to the next time.. will take on the enormous putting course as well. "Hidden gem" but won't be for long.
Charles Fry
Incredible track. Challenging without ripping your soul out for four hours. Beautifully manicured.
Joe Canales
The Golf Director made our play very exiting. The whole staff went out of the way to make our experience the best it could be. I’ll be back!!!
Ole Hanson
Golf course staff was super friendly and helpful. Course was perfect for an early season round. I’ll be back again in the future.
Paul Kopydlowski
Great track. Really nice. A whole new course. Dissapointed they have no senior rates. They like juniors and veterans, (which is very good!), but I guess not seniors. I believe it is the only place I have ever played with no senior rates. A lot of really nice courses around that can be played for $50-$75 or less with senior discount. $150 make is kind of tough. It's really nice, but I don't know that it is two or three times better than Broadlands, Morningstar, University Ridge and some of the Lake Geneva courses.
Jonathon Gasteiner
Definitely coming back! Reminded me a lot of the River at Blackwolf Run. Beautiful course with fun and challenging holes. Greens, fairways, and tee boxes in perfect condition.
Lost 1 star for a few reasons. My gps didn’t work, assuming because of the recent renovation. Cart paths in rough shape. Signs and paths from hole to hole were lacking. Some of the fescue/rough is completely overrun with tall prickly weeds (aesthetic complaint). Hopefully some of these details will be worked through this off-season.
Tim Doyle
Had the opportunity to play the course on Sunday of Labor Day weekend. This review is really separated into two distinct parts: Golf (5-star) and Dining (0/1 Star)
Golf: A tremendous golf experience all around. The golf staff is very engaging and personable. A special acknowledgement to the 1st tee starter John Olsen - he gave a great overview of the course, how to play, and the history of the remodel.
The course is in impeccable shape and incredibly fun to play. I prefer courses that play in a non-linear fashion; or to put it another way, give you several options on how to play each hole. Each hole at Lac La Belle made us think about how we wanted to be positioned and most holes offered attractive risk/reward options. I love courses where you walk off thinking about how I could or would have played holes differently the next time. There was not a single "meh" hole on the course.
The green complexes were unique, but not unfair. It's easy to see the Sand Valley and Mammoth Dunes influences throughout the greens and the course overall. Just an absurdly fun course to play. I played with a friend who is a Class A PGA member, has played in PGA tour events, and is a successful teaching pro in Florida and he raved about the course and how its the type of course he could play every day - I concur.
Dining: Before the round I walked through the clubhouse to look around. The clubhouse, pro shop, and dining area are all stunningly beautiful. I called my wife and said she and our son should meet us after our round for lunch. My wife and son arrived when we had two holes to play and planned on ordering drinks and an appetizer on the patio while they waited for us to finish. They had trouble getting any of the staff's attention. They asked to get a menu three separate times and were told that there were only 10 menus available and others were using them. Finally, when they did get someone's attention they were told that they weren't sure the club had anyone cooking and if they did they couldn't say how long it would take to get a food order (this was around 1:00 pm on a holiday weekend). My wife texted me while walking up 18 that we would have to go elsewhere for lunch.
I fully appreciate and understand the challenges facing the service industry with staffing shortages, and would be willing to write this off as a "one off", but on our way out we saw a table of two couples getting up and walking out without ordering. We stopped them and they mentioned that they live on the lake and this was their 4th attempt to come to the restaurant and they have not had any luck getting served. The said they wanted to new restaurant to be a "go to" place, but were now giving up.
In summary, the golf experience and facilities are superb, but the inability to offer basic dining services was quite disappointing. The course is so good that I'll be back. I hope they can get the dining squared away as meeting the wifes for lunch or dinner after a round is the capstone to the day.

Course: Perfect condition and lots of fun challenges, especially #18 green. Need to be accurate off the tee.
Only cons were the GPS in our carts was way off. Some of the pin placements were so off on the GPS. GPS would show the pin in the back almost off the green and it was actually at the front of the green. Messed with our first couples holes until we realized it. The other was the carts shut off near fescue or the greens. Which makes sense, but they would shut off 40 yds away from the green. I feel like they could let you get much closer
I would recommend the course, beautiful and lots of fun

This course is truly fantastic. From the moment you pull up into the parking lot you'll be amazed. Your mind will be blown when you see the endless amount of improvements that were made. No detail was overlooked.
Every hole is unique and memorable and you can't find greens like LLB's anywhere in the area. This is a special course. It's also worth noting that the clubhouse, 1896 room, practice facilities, etc are all top-notch. My wife and I stopped by this weekend to try the menu in the Rivalry Pub and the food and service is incredible. The patio by the 18-hole putting course is legendary. Last but certainly not least, the staff is absolutely wonderful - can't wait to go back soon.

Played here a number of times; am ALWAYS impressed by the friendly, family-owned atmosphere prevalent from the Pro-Shop to the Pub to even the grounds helpers outside. Very people-friendly folks running the place! The course has eye-catching views with dynamic changes in elevation, fair and white-sanded bunkering, and large undulating greens with a reasonable/manageable Stimp rating. Fun, beautiful, playable, and fair with many sets of tees for different skill levels. Though it still needs some maturing [as one might reasonably expect from any brand new course remodel], it is ahead of the curve in conditioning and layout. This place is" destination golf." Nothing like the dowdy, swampy layout of old with a dated clubhouse. If you haven't played here since it was entirely renovated, you won't recognize it! Wife doesn't golf, but we met for a fish fry after my round on a Friday evening! Delicious! Made even more so by the open floor-to-ceiling- glass doors letting in the evening sunset and balmy weather. Thought we could've been in Ireland, with the shadows lengthening across the rolling hills of the course. Hope to play and dine here many more times this summer of 2021! Congrats to the Morse Family for a renovation job well done! A first-class operation by any standard!

First off. All staff was super friendly. Most comfortable golf carts ever. Free bottles of water. All nice. For the money I thought course would be in better shape. Also I was instantly put off. Made reservations 2 weeks prior to round. We had 3 people. Reserved 3 caddies. Drove 2 hours to play here and have a caddie. They only had one. So we still had to get a cart and we used the caddie as a fore caddie. She was great. But over all disappointed with conditions for the price and not providing us with the caddie service we reserved was disappointing. There are plenty of other courses much closer in that proce range that are in better condition.

Course is beautiful and kept in great shape. The staff is incredibly friendly and outgoing. Shout out to our server Katie for such great service over lunch. I can't wait to come back and play again.
Wayne Busch
Our foursome had a great round here. It was my second time playing the course and it’s maturing into a great track after the modernization effort. We used caddies and they were fantastic. The ONLY improvement would be that our Garmin watches still didn’t have the course updated.

Great course! Bag drop PRO Ron and clubhouse Connor were first class! From the moment we pulled up to hitting range balls to the first tee, he had the "red carpet" service rolled out. We played Erin Hills the day before so I didn't know what to expect at Lac La Belle and they went above and beyond to make us feel welcome!
David John Hailey
Outstanding golf experience. Course was in good shape, the greens were running at a quick pace, and the pace of play was great. Perhaps one of my favorite courses I’ve played. Will definitely return!
Steve Zeske
I will definitely be back to The Club at Lac La Belle (especially to get revenge on the back 9) but mainly because the newly renovated course offers a challenge to serious golfers in an upscale, friendly setting.
More details from my experience below:
The parking lot is weirdly situated, but the signage is clear to the observant driver. There was no one at the bag drop when I drove by, even though I arrived mid-morning. One of the bag boys met me halfway between my car and the carts when he saw me carrying my clubs and welcomed me to the course.
On the range, I specifically asked the employee loading the stations with golf balls if I could hit off the grass. “Absolutely, sir,” he replied enthusiastically. 20 minutes later, a different employee yelled at me from the parking lot that the grass was off limits. There was no signage indicating the grass was not to be used.
Besides that, I’d give the staff a 10/10.
The practice green has a 15-hole putting course that gives you a taste of what’s to come out on the real course. The undulation is wild, but I was able to find a couple flat spots for practice.
The starter on the 1st tee was informative, telling my group where carts weren’t allowed and how to find tee boxes on certain holes. Kudos to his advice to take my 250-yard club on the opening shot because if I had taken my driver, I would have ended up in the expansive bunker complex hidden from the tee. Without that advice, I would not have started with a birdie.
The first 4 holes set up the expectation for the entire round:
- Bunker complexes that split fairways and demand precise tee shots
- MASSIVE mounds, backstops, and tiers in the greens. I’m not kidding when I say “massive.” The par 3 4th green is nearly a quarter acre. I swear.
The course WILL test you. I felt like I was playing a Pete Dye-esque course the likes of the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island Ocean Course (which is being played as I write this).
I feel like some of the new design elements were a bit over-the-top though:
- The 2nd green is already two-tiered with the 2nd tier sloping front-to-back. The two mounds separating the tiers is too much. A smooth tier would have been challenging but not menacing.
- The tree splitting the fairway on hole 6. From the blue tees, it’s not much of an obstacle as it can be hit over for a more aggressive line, but from the closer white tees where my mother was playing, hitting over the tree is not an option. The tree basically forces you into taking the aggressive line to the right of the tree but left of the water hazard. Going left of the tree would almost certainly require 2 more shots to reach the green on the par 4. The tree effectively takes away an option to play for a safe par.
- The tree splitting the 16th fairway, while majestic, is unnecessary. It adds more difficulty to an already difficult drive that must carry bunkers but stop short of bunkers on the other side of the fairway. If anything, it causes pace of play issues since players are forced to aim up the left-hand side of the fairway and any misses left end up in fescue with nothing but a blind punch out for the 2nd shot.
Speaking of pace of play, our group of 3 played the front 9 in 2 hours but we were held up on #11 through the rest of the round. I think the group 2 ahead of us must have taken a break at the turn.
After the round, we went to the modern-designed Rivalry Pub for a beer and appetizers. The food was great and the bartender even comped our drinks when he forgot to put it on the bill because it wasn’t worth our time to wait for him to ring it up again. We would have been glad to pay, but he insisted.
One last note: the course conditions. I’m giving the course conditions a bit of a pass because I know it’s been less than 2 years since renovations took place. Another 2 years, and the grass should grow into a few of the bare spots and make putts less “wobbly.”
I can definitely envision this course hosting a Wisconsin State Amateur tournament in 3-6 years.

The course
Phenomenal layout
Greens fairways outstanding condition
Some of the biggest greens I’ve ever played
As you move closer to cart paths and rough it gets ragged and punishing. Bunker placement formidable with front entry fairway shaved to get in bunker then 12” rough coming out of bunker. Once on the greens it’s not unusual to have a 3 foot mound to putt over or around. It’s an awesome challenge
The Pro Shop
Well stocked, organized and Friendly
The Pub/Resturant
Weak link
Our visit was on a weekday
No breakfast
Lunch was average
While dining at the pub again not to busy with maybe 3 tables occupied we had to search for a clean table. As we sat and talked about the round, ate and planed our exit, the tables never were cleaned. Leaving the flys to feast on leftovers.
All and All I would go back in a second.
Chris Greco
Course was amazing. Challenging but fun. The greens are nerve wrenching, but that’s the point. Amenities and staff were top notch. Play smart golf, and you’ll be rewarded on the scorecard.
John Ruby
I'm thinking of joining a club this year. Being a past member of LLGC I decided to check out the new Lac La Belle. It's a beautiful new facility I'm looking forward to playing the new and improved golf course. The guys in the Pro Shop couldn't have been nicer, answered all my questions. The pub is great, very nice people through out.
David Rane
Fantastic course. Super fun greens. Beautiful setting.

From the moment I drove up, I was impressed. Just looking out at the course was beautiful. I walked into the golf shop and was greeted as if I was a regular (it was my first time there). The course itself was well maintained except for one or two areas. The landscaping was beautiful, the foliage was perfect. Upon completion, I was greeted again in the golf shop by my name. All the extra touches to make me want to come back again and again.
Brett Casper
This was a great course. You pay for some green fees but get great carts, great service, great club house, and great course. The course was difficult in play but the course was great condition for the lies. Definitely worth a stop to play.
al lojewski
Great club house and practice area. People are excellent. It’s been very dry and the greens on the back nine were a bit worn and need some more TLC. Cost is a bit high vs all the courses around.
Christopher Hoffman
Super friendly staff. Great condition for start of fall. Fairways were in excellent shape. Greens were difficult in spots but fun to play. I can’t wait to go back.
Pete Rivers
The course is nice. Golf carts need some work with their GPS system. The golf cart kept shutting down when driving down certain cart paths. It kept saying "keep cart out fescue areas."
joel falk
Very nice course. Upgrades really nice. Greens true for being, in many cases, new. Big difference between whites and championship tees so you can have any experience you want. I recommend it.
Austin Shanahan
Ignore any negative reviews about the course dating before 2021. I played on May 9 2021, walked the full 18, and wow, was I impressed. Looking at what this course used to be on Google Maps Satellite View, I cannot begin to describe how much the original 1896 course was improved upon and changed for the better.
Constructed (not designed) by the same team (Oliphant Golf Management) that did ALL THREE courses at Sand Valley Golf Resort, The Club at Lac La Belle is like a combination of the courses at SVGR, but with an entirely different feel regarding atmosphere and setting.
You know you're at a golf resort when you play Sand Valley, which has it's advantages, but Lac La Belle feels like you BELONG to a private club when you arrive at the property. Massive firm greens have the feel of Mammoth Dunes, heavily bunkered fairways and different options for play give a Sand Valley aesthetic, and it has the walkability and uniqueness of the Sandbox 17. For that reason, I like Lac La Belle more than the aforementioned others.
I will give you a guarantee right now: In 2022, The Club at Lac La Belle will be voted a Top 10 Public Course in the state of Wisconsin, and it will garner Most Improved Public Course on some level.
Theodore Towler
My son and I totally enjoyed our round today at the club. I also invited my good friend and his son and they also enjoyed themselves today at the club. We had lunch in the pub and it was excellent all service everything at the club was Top Notch
Alex Lee
Fantastic Course but with some wet areas. If you get past it, it is an excellent time! Have attended a wedding, a club event, and a fine dinner and I have enjoyed my time thoroughly! Stocked bar, friendly staff, enjoyable golf, La Belle truly is phenomenal.

Jason DuVall
Beautiful course with a high difficulty level, huge greens with lots of slope.
Robert Werman
Amazing facility, high quality golf course with the wildest green complexes you’ll ever see. The 4th, 16th and 18th greens must be seen to be believed. Also great post-round food and drink, I can’t recommend Lac La Belle enough.
Mike Moritz
This course is pure eye candy for golf addicts. What a track. Lots going on and for I dig all sorts of shots. I will be back!
Tim Ancona
Great course in great shape and great service. Greens had a LOT of shape to them and were fast.
Joey Bushman
Fun course. Greens are crazy fun or crazy hard pending pin position. Prolly not worth $125 + $25 cart. $100 all in is more what they should be charging in my opinion.
