Reviews of Skylinks at Long Beach
This review is strictly pertaining a wedding I attended and not the actual golf experience. I recently attended a wedding at Skylinks Long Beach Golf Course, and it was nice. It was a lovely and simple wedding. It definitely fits the couple's style, which is basic. There's nothing wrong with being basic sometimes.
The ceremony took place outside in front of the waterfall. My only issue was the grass; not ideal for heels at all, but whatever. When the ceremony ended, they had a cocktail hour outside, including an open bar with self-served hors d'oeuvres. Both the ceremony and cocktail hour was nicely set up.
When we entered the reception area, I felt that it was the perfect size for the number of people that attended. But the dance floor was not. It was super tiny, and the dancing was very tight. For dinner, it was buffet-style with Italian food. I didn't really like where the buffet was located, but I guess it worked out well. The food was basic; nothing really stood out for me. The waitstaff, however, was terrific! It looked like only about three people were working, and they seemed to be on the older side. But man, they were hustling and bustling! They were moving quickly, and they did their job! The wedding had an open bar throughout the whole time! They even provided late-night tacos! Which really hit the spot!
I felt that the bathrooms could've been located within the same building where the reception took place. The bathrooms were across the way for everyone; even the golfing people were using them. The bathrooms weren't the best-looking ones. You have a beautiful wedding with ugly, run-down bathrooms.
Everyone is all dressed up and then uses a gross bathroom.
I'm not a golfer, so I probably won't come back unless I’m invited to another event. But I would recommend Skylinks for a wedding.
On a cloudy afternoon with low winds and a temperature high of 66°... it was a great day for golfing.🏌️♂️
Thank you Long Beach City College for inviting Catalyst to the LBCC 37th Annual Athletics Golf Tournament at Skylinks Golf Course for such an incredible fundraising event.
GO VIKINGS!!!
Wonderful and excellent time, my relative got married to day, my relatives wife is so beautiful,I am glad she is finally in the family now💗💗💗💗💗, but they place is very beautiful and gorgeous, hopefully I will get to come back soon and play some rounds of golf.🤗💗 …
Play here all the time in my backyard. Course is in decent shape. Unfortunately they just punched the greens 9/28/22 so tough putting. They didn't offer a discount and they should have. Biggest issue is cost for non residents $90 which is too pricey for this course. Played in 4 1/2 hours.
This is my home course when friends come in from out of town. The grass is too arid for my liking and the parking lot is a bit dumpy. They should really put some more money into raising the quality of the clubhouse as well.
Loved the course. Be forewarned that it has high air traffic due to long beach airport but I actually found it kind of cool. Great place great price, I'll be returning for sure! Staff and facilities are great too!
$53.00 !!!! Non-resident of Long Beach, walking, Wednesday morning (07:45 AM Tee Time).
Have to admit, that they re-did the Golf Course since the last time that I played there, 10 + year's ago. Scored an 88 from the Blue Tee's. Don't think that I'll be back soon, until I get my SENIOR CARD, and a Resident Card.
My first time here. Big beautiful place...but fair warning to those who enjoy a more relaxed game of golf, this place may not be for you. Some people here behave like A-holes and get upset if not playing at their pace and complain to management. I spent too much money to be here and not be allowed to enjoy myself.
Skylinks is a fun track to play. The fairways allow for huge roll out, so that's always a nice feeling. Greens are big but they aren't as fast as they appear. It is a gettable course. 4stars bc they charge more than the other two tracks which are way more challenging.
Great public course that the Century Club uses to host the Mayor of Long Beach golf tournament every year. Near the Long Beach airport and the freeway so it's very accessible to wherever you live or stay. Since it's a public course it won't kill you in the pocketbook. Nice little bar and restaurant in the clubhouse too.
Nice course for beginners. Includes driving range and practice greens
Course is in amazing shape right now! Fast greens and much more sand in the bunkers.
Course is one of the best I have played during this water restrictions. They use reclaimed water. That's ok. The staff was super helpful. Shocking this isn't a country club. Wow
Nice lay out. Price was a little on the high side. Tee boxes in poor condition when we played today greens in poor condition too.
ALWAYS HAVE HAD A GOOD TIME, PLAYING GOLF AND HAVING A COUPLE OF BEERS IN THE BAR. JENNY IS A GREAT BARTENDER AND VERY NICE PERSON.
Had a great day off today trying them out just at the range. . .very well keep and enjoyed it. The pro shop guys love there jobs they were great and helped me out so thank you guys. Now just can't wait to go back and try out the course and the food going to have to be there all day next time.
Beautiful location for events .. held a wedding vow renewal and it was gorgeous 😍🥰 …
The course was in fair condition. Something is damaging the collars around the greens on a few holes. Yesterday was extremely slow
Average muni golf course, fairways are in good shape and greens are so so.
I've played this course twice and I like the layout of the course and how well kept it is. The course welcomes you with a short par four to let you warm off and then things start to open up. Speed of play can be a bit slow, depending on the time you tee off, but it's still a course I will come back and play.
Once a while, they let you hit off the grass at the driving range!
Absolutely fabulous links style course in the heart of Long Beach. Bunkers , undulating hills , narrow and wide fairway. Excellent course. Highly recommend.
Enjoy the walk playing 9 on a Sunday. Greens were will maintained after a heavy rain pour the days prior. Will definitely come came to play a full 18
It has been sometime since I visited Skylinks. The course is in pretty good shape, although the greens had been recemtly aeroated. The only reason it doesn't rate a fifth star is because its overpriced greenfees. There are many comparable courses in the local that don't charge such high fees
Attended an outdoor wedding here, the set up was amazing and the reception inside was also very nice. Staff was very nice and courteous to everyone needs.
City of Long Beach overpriced courses and range buckets. Also include Signal Hill in resident card membership. Using google business page to communicate hours with patrons is helpful. Try it.
Golf course in decent shape. Greens lightly punched and sanded, but rolled pretty nice. Fairways decent. Pace of play excellent. Just over 4 hours. Bathrooms on course closed. No good reason for this. No trash cans on course. Also for no good reason. Dirty thruout and trash overflowing in clubhouse bathroom. Definitely needs some custodial attention.
Very nice course, great conditions all around, from tee boxes to fairways to greens, couldnt find anything wrong beside my golf game....lol...teed off at 130 and surprisingly the POP was awesome. Finished 18 in under 4 hrs and was even got in a few extra holes before returning our carts...I would recommend this course for any golfer. If the POP is consistently under 4hrs, then it should be the place to golf, in my opinion.
Had a 3:00pm tee time didn’t tee off until 3:45. Pace of play was bad. Didn’t get to finish the round, ended on 15. Course condition was great just need the staff to be more organized, seemed like it was all their first day.
Great track always am enjoyable round.
Skylinks is a terrific golf course that happens to be across the street from the Long Beach Airport. Today, I practiced putting & got drinks to go while waiting to pick up my wife at the airport. Terrific driving range & other golf facilities.
First time playing here. Pace of play was better that I heard/expected 7:00AM tee time on a Sunday. Staff was good. Food and beverage service was good. Course was fun and in good condition but I would be disappointed if it wasn’t based on the green fee.
Noisey but all else is good for a municipal course.
Skylinks has a nice layout, it's not too long, and the facilities are nice. The fairways are wide and the rough isn't too bad except for areas on every hole that the ball settles down into some deeper stuff. Our main issue was with the greens. Maybe it was the wedding tournament in front of us but it seemed like nobody was fixing their ball marks. That was irritating to say the least. The other problem was the beverage cart. She had no interest in selling anything. We only saw her twice during our round. Both times she slowed down a bit and yelled "You don't need anything do you?" and kept on going. Strange. The bar is ok, but the bartender is friendly and mixes a very good drink.
The staff is exceptionally helpful and friendly. The tees, fairways and bunkers are in great shape. The greens are soft and a few are pretty beat up. The pace of play is truly bad. Regardless of the tee time it's always a 5+ hour round. It's a fun course but not a good value for the price.
Skylinks is another great Muni in southern California. Greens are usually always in great shape in put true. It is a parkland layout with some challenging holes. One of my favorite layouts for a muni. Tee boxes can be a little on the thin side due to the amount of play it gets. It is very uniquely close to the Long Beach airport and a small aircraft fly over several times an hour. This is a must try if you're in the Long Beach area. It can be very busy and extremely slow. Well over 5 hour rounds close to 6 hour rounds is almost the norm nowadays. Early birds can play quickly. And it is one of the more expensive golf courses in the area. Nice practice area couple of putting greens in the driving range his decent
Played on a Saturday. Good layout. Greens were above average, but the fairways were dry... could've used a minimal amount of water. After 14 holes and 4.5 hours, we had to leave... we hadn't planned on a 5:40-6 hr pace. Ten minute splits (instead of 8) and a more attentive and active marshall could make a round here much more enjoyable.
I thought this public course was great for a casual late afternoon round with my son. The greens were not bad. The only problem was a very slow and inconsiderate party of five in front of us holding up everyone behind them. There was no marshal to keep the pace. Also the holes adjacent to the driving range are littered with white range balls making it nearly impossible to find your ball in the rough unless you tee off with a brightly colored ball! Food is nothing special but they have a good selection of cold beer and snacks with a lukewarm hot dog for reasonable price. Convenient location. I would come back again for practice.
For anyone who hasn't played here in a long time, the course is a pleasant surprise. The greens were in good shape and putted true. The holes with water were challenging but fair and the overall experience was good.
The course is in very good condition. One of our foursome didn't show but they let is play as three without making us into a fivesome. Pace was good for a Sunday, but this may be attributable to the fact that they are a little pricey on weekends compared to other courses nearby; $80 each with a cart. Lakewood and El Dorado nearby are busier but may seem more reasonably priced.
Pretty nice course not too hard not too easy, medium-range price for myself but I walk so it's cheaper. Also they need to put in a couple electric car spots so that you can charge your car while you play, and if the course manager is reading this put in at least 4 not 2. Thank you
The course is currently in winter conditions. Grass tends to go dormant which makes for some brown/dead ares including the fairways. The greens are in good shape, as are the bunkers. This is probably one of the better long beach courses but the biggest downside is the pace, especially on the weekends, it's 5+ hours for a round. They send groups every 8 mins which makes the problem. I understand they need go maximize groups sent but when you account overbooked, 5 somes, walkers, and people playing from the blues when they won't break 100, it makes for a frustrating day.
The range is mats only. The practice greens are pretty big and roll similar to the actual course greens. The restrooms could use attention. The restaurant food is decent but the staff makes it up with the friendly smiles. Some in the pro shop could take some pointers.
Courses in good shape except for sand traps you would think you would have staff on board to rake them since the golfer can't do that no more
My wedding was last Thursday, and I honestly am going to do my best to describe how amazing this venue was but words truly aren’t enough. From the very beginning when we toured the venue Brooke and Diana were an absolute pleasure to talk to. They both were so excited and enthusiastic about making my day as special as it should be. We weren’t even done touring all the venues we were going to look at but after meeting with Brooke I knew Skylinks was where I wanted my wedding to be. Of course we still did our due diligence and went on the rest of our tours. After my wife and I discussed all the venues we toured, we went back to Skylinks the same day to book because we wanted to make sure they had our day. All the staff was absolutely amazing. Donnie the bartender was definitely heavy handed (which I appreciated) and he made sure my Bride and I were taken care of! (Plus, his dance moves during our reception were a hit). Sarah was absolutely amazing, constantly checking up on my wife and I to see if we needed water, or honestly anything at all. and a special kudos to the chef for that stuffed chicken with chardonnay sauce! Talk about delicious.
I had an idea of how the day was going to go, and of course I had expectations. Skylinks went above and beyond those expectations and my wedding was truly a fairytale, it was everything I could have dreamed of and more.
Thank you Brooke, Diana, Donnie, Sarah, and every other staff member who I may of not been able to meet. July 25th, 2019 is a day I will never be able to forget.
A few of the holes (#1 & #10) are a little weird. You get a lot of roll on the fairways when they're dry. The tee areas are level and in good shape. Greens are multi-tier and difficult. You may see an occasional bald area (no grass) on a few of the greens. Green fees are higher than average for the area. You will need to be able to work the ball for lower scores.
This is a good course to play, good price, has a nice GPS, but the cars are beaten up, and the pace of play is so slow it makes it hard to get into a rhythm. when you have to wait 15 mins at each tee box because the pro shop puts groups of 5 before and after you, when you are 3, it makes the round impossible. Took us 5 hours and 20 minutes to play 18.
A golf course well-designed and conveniently located, lots of beautiful trees with strategically located bunkers and water hazards. Lenthgwise, it's a fun course to play for both high and low handicap players. Greens can be fast towards the afternoon, fairways may take time to get adjusted too since it has the kind of grass that grabs the clubhead as you hit down on the ball. Played this course on a Saturday afternoon and there was an average wait of ten minutes on every hole, took my foursome 6 hours to complete 18 holes. All along that time, I never saw a marshall manning the fairways. The pro shop just keep on taking as much players as they can, there's just too many players on the fairways. Ahead of us was a fivesome with two players walking. This course would have been fun to play if the management was considerate enough to control the number of players they take in, or at least have a fairway marshall to manage the pace of players.
Nice staff and well kept range! Played the course once and had a blast, and I will definitely go again. Have fun!
Fairways and greens in good shape. Bunkers are hard, compact, not how they should be. Great twi-light rates.
Great course to play at and joining the players clubs help save a lot. 12pm after you pay $25 and 2 large buckets if you are a players clubs member of the Long Beach course. Can't beat that.
Attended a wedding at Skylinks. It is a beautiful atmosphere, however, being where it is, geographically, the planes and helicopters landing at Long Beach airport can put a slight damper on an event. And I can only imagine what it does to you when a plane flies over your head during your back swing. In the end, the staff was excellent and everything went smoothly.
Beautiful course and facilities. Way too overbooked, but that has been said by many before me. I was in the first group of a tournament with a 10AM starting time on Friday. The last group off before us was a fivesome with one walker (this should never happen). They played extremely slow which resulted in a 6 hour round...on friday morning. Younwith think with all the similar complaints management would get the hint and change their booking practices
Saturday May 11th, 2013 we thought we had a 730am reservation, however my friend Mike made a mistake--we had no tee time. The staff at Skylinks was very helpful.
They did have an available tee time at 1030am. They worked it out so we played the back 9 first made the turn and teed of at the front 9 at 1030am. I thought it was very nice of them. The course it self very good shape-Greens very true
Best public course in Long Beach.
Normally tee off before 7am. Round takes just over 4 hours. (weekday)
Course in great shape, helpful staff and great facility.
Still waiting for my Garmin watch to update the course layout change on the front 9.
Also look forward to finding more internet savings deals for our group.
A very friendly course for players of all levels. Greens are fast and true, which adds legitimate challenge to a very open course design. Likewise, prevailing ocean winds make club selection less than automatic and adds to the fun.
Only regret: We played behind a five-some that slowed our round to over 4:30 on a Tuesday morning. We waited on nearly every shot from the 8th hole onward. Realize they should have let us play through as the group was almost a full hole behind the remainder of the day. But Pro Shop and American Golf policy can share the blame. They should discourage anything that adds 20% more time (the fifth player) to the typical round. That shouldn't happen, especially on an early AM round at an otherwise affordable and enjoyable golf experience.
4&1/2 hour round with a foursome course in decent shape. Can't expect more than that at a muni👍 …
Hey Gary,
Greens were in pretty good shape. Fairways dry so that's good for grandpa. Yeah!! Pace of play was horrible, nearly 6 hours. Front office a bit "Out of Sorts" At hole number three we were asked to add a fifth player then after 9 holes one player left to join another group teeing off at 11. then two of our group had to leave after 15 to go and get their children from the babysitters(20 bucks per hour).NO marshals in sight. As a veteran marshal I know that would be a big help. Example: Have the women tee off while the guys are waiting. At 13 we had four groups waiting. At 16 the same. NO wave ups!!! NEED MARSHALS TO MONITOR THE PACE OR YOU MAY HAVE SOME UNHAPPY(NOT TO RETURN PLAYERS) AND A BAD REPUTATION THAT SKYLINKS TAKES TOO LONG!!!
THAT IS THE SKINNY FROM OLE' GRANDPA.
Decent spot to golf. Hard to finish 18 when your stuck behind the slow walkers that dont allow you to pass. Needs to have a Marshal on the turn or monitor the players a little more
Great course, fun to play. They also put on amazing events! We had a wedding there and it was fantastic although they ran out of fish. Get more fish!
Our 3-some t-eed off at 5:15 am - first off the t- pretty excited about starting first and hopefully finishing at the absolut longest 4 hours. Unfortunately, that was not the experience. Our 3-some are between 15-22 handicapps and all can "progress the ball" with no issues. The problem was after making the turn at 9, they allowed a 2 some in front of us at hole #10. These guys were playing from the blue tips and in all honesty
should have been playing from the reds. They could not progress the ball at all and were most likely at best getting on the green in 8-10 shots - completely unacceptable.
We finsihed at 10:15 - 5 hour round and we were first off T. MInd blowing. I know its not going to happen but there should be a requirement if you play from the blues you should at least be a "bogey" or better player. Super happy we didn't get stuck in the weekend hacker crowd which would have turned this into a 6 hour round. Great course, fun to play but pace of play is not realistic.
My professional organization has been using Skylinks for their monthly meeting for several years now. The food is always good, the staff always helpful. There's plenty of parking, and a cafe on-site to pick up a beer or glass of wine.
Beautiful meeting for the wedding I went to! Just lovely!
The Harbor Transportation Club hosts their Annual Winter Golf Tournament at Skylinks. The staff is very professional, attentive and helpful. Great feedback on the food. All-in-all, a great day on the course.
There is way too much dead grass on the course but the people around are super nice and sometimes give you balls.
This course is usually good all the year round. But it beats almost all the courses in sizzling Summer. Even though it is around 100 degrees so it's almost impossible around Inland area? you can
Play here.
Course play was fairly quick. did not have to wait to tee off on next hole. the course was excellent. shot bad but enjoyed the experience. definitely playing this course again!!
Challenging course, with water and a lot of bunkers, nice fairways and greens that run true.
As good as winter golf can be. Aggressive winds keep you on your toes, but allowed for a very quick and enjoyable round.
Very friendly and helpful crew the course is in top shape i enjoyed my round.
great links course but with trees!
Went for a golf tournament and things were planned perfectly, organized and had tons of fun. Greens and fairway were in great shape and the greens were mice and challenging.
They have one of the best driving ranges in Long Beach
Plenty of room. The course is Beautiful and in great shape.
It was good place to play golf, but too many people on Friday morning. Do I want to play again? Yes I will play at Skylink on week day. Not weekend.....
This is a really nice course, easily accessible in Long Beach. Always clean, and the staff are really good about nudging slow pokes along. 5 Stars.
Great place to golf, I went out at 5:30 and was able to get 9 holes in. 2 tough par 4 holes on the front nine
Slow rounds on the weekends because they care more about getting every dollar possible than letting people enjoy a quicker round, but overall nice maintained greens and fairways.
Like the majority of golfers who visit SkyLinks, my issue is with the slow play. I played super twilight on Thursday, wasted 15 minutes at the starters desk as he attempted to take a reservation over the phone, finish a transaction with a golfer trying to catch his group, and interact with the rest ot the staff who were in the middle of something that, in fairness, seemed to be related to Skylinks that needed his input. Joe, the starter, is always extremely efficient but there should have been someone assisting him as I counted at least 4 other staffers flitting about. The slow play at Skylinks is a given as I live in Long Beach and used to play there regularly but stopped because of the slow play. If I had an eagle for everytime I saw a marshall DOING SOMETHING EXCEPT RIDING AROUND, my handicap would be in the single digits!! I only play Skylinks as a last resort. I really like the course but the slow play makes the few extra bucks you charge as opposed to other local courses not worth it.
I attribute the slow play to Golf Channel with players emulating the pre-swing rituals of favorite players, especially on the greens, then hitting shots that reveal them to be guys still trying to break 100!
.
My favorite courses. To pay a little extra but it's worth it.
Awesome when you tee off at 5:50... great shape
Loved the food and the ambience. Lovely place
Always a good golf course. But this time the course was very yellow and every T box was saturated and muddy.
Nice course. Not that busy on Friday. I started at 11:25, finished at 4:30. Green was little bit slow.
The course is in great shape. The front office staff, especially Pauline, are really friendly and competent.
Keep up the good work.
Attended a Mother's Day Brunch Excellent Service. The Golf Course was beautiful and the room was Gorgeous.
Attended a wedding here. The staff was well prepared and nice. The food was good. The place golf course was well groomed.
The pandemic has reduced some of it's playability, but the course still remains fun to play.
Nice course, but when it's 90 and no breeze you should see the drink cart more than twice in a 5 hour round.
Pretty good condition. Warning. They raised the rate and it cost $80. This is not an $80 experience.
Decent enough golf course and facilities. Took an hour to play 3 holes. Waaaaaay to many people on the golf course. Poor course management
Great range, practice areas are good too. Gets a bit crowded on the range, so it is hit or miss on having to wait for a matt to open up.
Great course, a lot of sand traps.
4.5 stars. Love Skylinks! Nice to have a LB course without cacua grass. Good mix of holes
This was the nicest venue I have attended in a long time. From the restroom to the food was very clean and good. I would recommend to my family and friend.
Fun public course. Not to hard. You can get a tee time pretty easily at the club if you're there in person
Great track, friendly staff & good food & craft beers...course underrated tough challenge, really enjoyable!
As a local to Southern California, it's hard to find courses that have character. This course not only has character, it has great greens.
Went to a "Wedding Show" to check it out as a possible venue. Staff was very friendly, servers were promt. It's definitely on our list.
Nice people in the pro shop, good range and balls, course's fairways nice and tight (could use a little water), greens will be perfect this summer.
Great course. Great price. Slow greens. I drive from LA to play here.
First time visit. Attended a birthday celebration. Nice, clean. Great room for receptions, parties, meetings, etc.
Fairways dormant, tons of roll off the tee, greens very fast, lots of trees, good overall test of golf.
Staff was friendly course in pretty decent shape especially since it's been raining for 2 days my experience pretty good
This man right here with four birdies was on fire.
Great course, long with challenges but a little course management can go a long way.
Very fun course. The staff members are friendly courteous.
Had a nice little Christmas party for our facility. Nice experience for my first time at this venue.
Practice balls were good shape. Hitting off grass today which there was very little of..
Friendly, helpful staff in pro shop. Course laid out nicely and well maintained.
The greens were in great shape, however the fairways is another story. A bit pricey as well.
It treated me well...Thursday morning tee time ..4hr on the dot pace...
Course is in good shape, not great shape but greens are a little thick.
Attended retirement party. Food excellent. Golf course busy on a rainy day.
Wes atl LGB, but close. Been to skylinks. Deceptively difficult. Great place.
Hey,great course,awesome breakfast burritos, a must try.
Open fairways reachable par 5s.. Greens were fast but enjoyable course..
Went to an engagement party held here. Good staff, good food, good drinks. Perfect for small gatherings.
I have been here for two events. The bathrooms are not the cleanest but the the place is nice.
Best long beach course. A bit slow most weekends but good conditions.
Grass is dormant in the fairways, but greens are in good condition.
Always a great track here. One of my favorite courses to play.
Great range with lots of spots and great course.
Food for the wedding reception was the best I've ever had at any wedding. Very very good food
Great golf course, just the right degree of difficulty.
Pretty easy access; course, except bunkers, in pretty good shape.
Great course. Well kept.
Greens are tough too read.
Decent course, had fun.
Great track good value! Friendly staff... pleasure to swing it here!
Need better golf etiquette for slow pace players and maybe a couse marshal would help!
Easy course to maneuver, however I wish the holes were labeled a bit more clearly.
Probably the most well manicured public course in Long Beach. The price reflects that but it is well worth it.
Long and challenging course
It has great food but i think they should extend their menu
Very nice course. Good integrated gps system in carts.
A fairly famous golf course to the local area residents well maintained great staff
First time play with my wife!
She likes a lot.I want go back
to play again!
Best Christmas party ever very nice place easy to find Pleasant atmosphere
The course is average. Very hard fairways and bad spots on green.
All the grass except the two boxes and greens was dead. Greens were nice though
Really nice course and greens. Maybe my favorite in Long Beach.
Fairways are a bit dry, but the greens are in great shape
Great course. Always able to find a time to walk on.
good track in Long Beach. But they pack em in so its slow playin

The battlefield is short, but the green speed is fast after the on-green difficulty. If you miss a shot between the trees in the middle, you have no choice but to hit the over par.
The fairway is a bit dry and the green is not bad.
