Reviews of Rio Secco Golf Club
Chasing Daylight Podcast
I’ll first preface this review by saying the course is not, in its current state, worth five stars. But when the fairway bunker renovations are finished, it will undoubtedly be a 5-star course.
Everything about Rio Secco is fantastic, well, maybe not everything. The price surge in the valley seems to have hit the maximum here. But I get it. If people continue to pay, they will keep raising the rates. So aside from the current renovations and pricing structure, the golf is outstanding.
They have a world-class practice facility, a meticulously manicured course, some of the best views of the Vegas skyline, the Butch Harmon School, and a fantastic restaurant. The pro shop is well stocked with a wide variety of apparel and goodies to commemorate your outing.
Hopefully, one day the prices we come back to earth cause that’s the only reason I’m not playing there every month.
Tom Newsted
A very fun course with some incredible views. There are a lot of forces carry spots on the course and that adds some real challenges. I would recommend this course to anyone visiting Vegas.
Albert Ortiz
Beautiful golf course! with very nice views especially for anyone that here from the east coast. Very well maintained especially with the Vegas heat that we all know, no real humidity so its not extreme but still hot, greens are in great shape and rolling true, if golfers would fix there ball divots the greens would be perfect! Otherwise its in great shape pace of play was just under 4hrs. Clubhouse is great, staff very friendly, and there selection on swag is great as well. Definitely will play it again when back in town.
Hillbilly Cool
Amazing views! If you're visiting Vegas and you're looking for a true golfing experience... You found it!!

Rio Secco offers great views of downtown Las Vegas and many opportunities to lose balls. It’s a long course, carved through valleys and washes, with a lot of interesting elevation changes. One par three requires your ball to go over the wash and up the mountain while the next is down the mountain. And there’s some water to deal with on the back nine. The course is in good condition. Staff were helpful.
Bruce Olson
Giving 3 stars due to course condition only. Unable to believe that this course has NO water available on the course. Oh they give only 2 waters to a golfer even though it was over 100 degrees. Unfathomable that a course of this stature does. It provide water on the course. Very weak and unprofessional. The day before we played at Dragon Ridge and what a difference. They had two large coolers on the first and tenth tee boxes full of ice cold bottled water. Dragon Ridge is not only much nicer than Rio Secco but they also care about the well being of their golfers which Rio does not. Management there should be embarrassed and ashamed for their lack of concern for the comfort and health benefits they do not provide. Save your money and play somewhere else.
Jonathan Lang
The three star review is purely for service and has nothing to do with the course. We showed up on 8/14/22 at 1pm for a 2pm tee time, and we were constantly rushed from the time we got there. Any golfer knows there is no worse feeling on the course. We flew in that day, dropped our bags at the hotel, and went right there for a tee time we reserved months in advance.
The place was a ghost town so I realized pretty quickly that everyone was just trying to get us out there so they could go home. Since we had just flown in, we were grabbing sandwiches at the range, and a starter came up at 1:30pm (half hour before our tee time) asking us to go out. We were told when we checked in that we were the last group. Then we got to the first tee at 1:45ish and another group showed up at the same time? The best part was at 4:00pm when we got a notification on our cart saying carts were due in at 5:00pm (3 hour round??) We were sold $100 2pm tee times! Then I called the pro shop and asked if that was legit and the guy confirmed! “At the latest please try to be here by 5:30”. They mentioned NOTHING to us about that in the pro shop. Unreal…it was a shame, we were there for my brother’s 21st and we were looking forward to the hype of this course. Very shortsighted management, because there are plenty of courses around and when people ask me about the experience I’ll always tell that story. We ended up playing a 4 hour 10 minute round on a neighborhood course…and our average handicap is a 7. Their own confirmation email to me says they expect us to play a 4.5 to 5 hour round so we were under that lol. We play quickly, but getting rushed is the WORST.

Great course - especially the front nine. Well maintained and challenging. Friendly staff and chill vibe. They even let us use the shower after the round.
Kreg Klaver
Outstanding golf course, very challenging and will give you a hard time. Greens are very fast but true. Staff is very helpful and friendly.
Ryan Badeaux
Amazing views. Golf is great and the greens are some of the best I have ever played. Food was also outstanding! I will play here again for sure.
Bill Dalton
What an incredible golf course. The front 9 is so cool. Not easy but a lot of fun with great views.
Brendan McGuire
Great views and a fun course. Everyone working was super nice and helpful.
Richard Johnston
Great people, Great golf, they gave me 4 bottles of water and I needed everyone,100 out there today.
Swet Raj
The best golf club in Las Vegas named Rio Secco Golf Club . It is the best place for golf player . It is peaceful place and with greenery, the view of this place is amazing. This place is not too crowded. The golf player like this place very much . This is very beautiful place 😍. …

Really enjoyed my experience! The course is very picturesque, but don't think this course is easy; it will punish you if you don't play the correct shot. Narrow fairways forced me into playing 4-iron off the tee most of my rounds, and fast-and-firm greens really force your hand into a more passive putting style.
The people here were amazing and hospitable; I felt welcome at the course. Shout-out to the starter, Jennifer — she really elevated my expectations of a premier golf club. She took care of my post-round routine: clean the clubs, drop them off, and return the cart.
Overall, Rio Secco provides a challenge to most golfers and complements that with hospitable people in and out of the clubhouse.
Mike M
Great place to golf. Perfect conditions and great staff. Highly recommend. I will repeat on future trips
Steve Berelo
One of the top golf destinations in Las Vegas, located in the hills of anthem development, immaculate fairways and greens, enjoy!
Vinnie Caminiti
Beautiful course and great staff. Nothing but good things to say about this place. Highly recommend playing when visiting Vegas
Blaine Reid
Worth every penny. This club is top notch in all areas. My recommendation is that unless you are a 4/5 handicap, don't play from the back tees. The course is plenty challenging without trying to stroke your ego.
JAMES MURPHY
Top shelf golf course with many fun and challenging holes. Beautiful views everywhere. Staff are also 1st class
Tanner Martin
Solid course. Well maintained, and tough layout with tight fairways. Really fun round.
Brian F
Plan on supporting the golf ball industry on the front 9
Matt Commons
Played on Wed 8/4/21 at 130PM. Rate was $99. Sure it was hot, but it's dry (secco!) and if you're in a cart no problem. Beautiful views from virtually every hole. Fun and challenging layout. Conditions were very good with greens that were consistent and nice color if a bit slow. Just a few brown or slightly bare spots in fairway, but overall very good esp for August. Ian did a fine job in the pro shop. Good cart girl. I would be happy to play it again.
Jimmy NGUYEN
Beautiful golf course with nice PGA grade fairway. Green just got aerated but still nice enough greens. Tough course.
Greg Kaegi
3.5 stars. Honest review time. I'm a 5 handicap. Played here Saturday August 14th 2021. They charge locals $100 and have a lot of burnt out spots in their fairways and the greens roll slow. There is zero sand in the fairway bunkers, all hard dirt(really pathetic). Charge $100, plus more for out of towners and you don't have sand in your fairway bunkers? Honestly, how does this course get four or five star ratings? I understand the views are nice and the course has a nice design to it but the greens need to roll faster, the fairways don't need to be burnt out and there needs to be sand in the bunkers. The one cart girl they had was very nice and deserves to be complimented. I would stay away from this place for a while and go to Boulder Creek or piaute for the best values and conditions around Vegas!
brian dale
Managed to get find a non prepaid time that had cashier questioning if price was supposed to be local only 🤓. Fantastic shape, beautiful especially for Dec, under 4 hour round, beautiful views make it a must if I can find another tee time that is around 100$ on future Vegas golf trips (I'm being cheap as a gem) and one of my new favorites.
Kenny Esajian
First time playing Rio Seco. Bag drop at the entrance to the clubhouse. Well stocked pro shop, dinning area first class. Practice tee you hit off the grass, Practice balls not clean and a bit dated. The range overall is a good setup. The fairways and greens are in good shape. Challenging course and I'll definitely go back.
Michael Preston
This was a visually stunning course that challenged the eye due to many elevation changes. Narrow fairways coupled with severe hazards make this a challenging course. The staff was friendly and helpful and the course was in great shape.
M. S.
Fun course. Very interesting and challenging layout. Several holes are rather narrow.
Shanda Roderick
More like a 4.5.
The staff was great the course was fun, but there were some brown patches. We play many other courses in the area for cheaper that do not have the brown spots. However, It was 114 degrees, so brown spots are understandable. We would come back again.
Christopher MacLaughlin
Great course, staff was very nice, Course was challenging definitely not for beginners, however the school of golf is right next door, and just a few lessons will have most motivated players hitting the ball straight. If you hit it good you scored good. Will definitely go back to play it again
Kellie Nelson
First time playing this course & we loved it. Staff was very friendly & helpful. We had the course to ourselves on a beautiful afternoon. Course was in great shape. Loved the greens. The carts & GPS are nice. The Bluetooth speakers in the cart were cool. My son played for free with YOC. Fun holes, especially the par 3s. Awesome views of the Strip & the valley. Really fun experience & we'll be back.
Danielle Stevenson
Excellent service by Adam! He really went the extra mile to get my Miitary Soldier group into a tournament that was previously full. Thank you Adam, you are the best!!!
Greg Gottlieb
The course is very good, but they have not kept up with expected amenities. First, the course. The front nine is beautiful and challenging, with big elevation changes and very interesting holes. The back nine is more forgiving, but still a good layout. Second, the amenities. My group's main complaint is the lack of GPS in the cart. This is 2018 and the course costs over $200 to play. In this day and age, nice courses have quality GPS systems. Rio Secco falls down here -- not having one at all. The clubhouse is fine. The food service on the course is adequate. The woman serving food on the course was very friendly.
Jonathan Velarde
Amazing golf course.
Beautiful fairways and awesome greens. If you miss the fairway expect to make a double bogey.
Staff is very nice and practice range is top notch. Very impressed.
Also, great value for the price.
Christopher Toombs
Really cool course and in great shape. Everyone was friendly and fantastic layout. I got destroyed on the front nine but the course overall was fair - definitely a course you need to play a couple times to know where to miss. Great value, will be back!
Elam Cronquist
This course is not really as nice as most public courses ice been to, but over twice the price. Meh.
Jeff Baer
Beautiful and challenging course with great views. Friendly and helpful club house employees and course staff. My ex golfing buddy forgot the scorecard on the cart after a decent round I wanted to post. When I told one of the cart attendants he offered to go fine it for me. He would of had to dig it out of the trash to find it , which he did. Not to many courses in town that have attendants that would go that extra mile. Thanks Rio Secco for a great 36 today!
Arbon Reimer
It was nice to be able to book online months before I played. I got a very early AM tee time as it does get scorching hot in July. I played July 26th. The pro shop actually charged us a few bucks less than the online price promised. The pro shop staff was immensely accommodating and nice. The course was in good shape considering it was July in the desert, and it was difficult but fair. We had a good time and would return for the right price (under $100).
John Adamaitis
Awesome course and was in great condition even in the summer.
Peter Lynch
Excellent if expensive golf course. Rack rate is in the range of $150 but discounts can be had from time to time. Home of the $1,000,000 hole in one (seasonal event) a very difficult par 3 where you are more than likely to put the ball in the water. Even if you do make the green, the tilt is such it would be dumb luck to get the ball in the hole! Course in excellent condition, couple of holes are pretty much target golf, but all in all I would call it tough but fair. A good shot will be rewarded (most of the time!). Nice club house. Not a good course for beginning golfers.
Alexrad Hernandez
Place was one of the best courses I’ve ever played. Very well maintained and challenging as ever. Had an awesome time. The Marshall was supercool to my group. Noticed we ran out of water and threw us a few extra bottles. Will definitely be back. Thank you Rio
Jack Banka
This is my favorite course in Las Vegas as I find it always well maintained and challenging. One of my favorite things is the telephone located on hole 9 where you can call in your order and pick it up on the way to hole 10. Several of the holes have deep ravines which make the course very challenging and may have the unskilled golfer (myself) reaching for another ball from their golf bag.
Debbie Richey
What a beautiful course. The moment we arrived the service we received from the pro shop, driving range, starter , and Jenna, drink cart extraordinaire was fabulous . Definitely will be putting this on my annual visit to Vegas
Michael Whitt
Super fun course. Checking out the houses in this area is almost as breathtaking as playing the course. It has a great clubhouse and facilities. All around top notch establishment and the golf is wonderful.
Troy Simoneau
Great course. Can’t wait to come back and play again in the summer. Greens were in great shape and staff was great.
Mike O'Neill
I played the course 2 times, March 24th & 26th. The course was in very good condition and my golfing experience was very good, but I want to give a "special" mention to the nice staff in the pro shop. The main person helping me was Assistant PGA Pro Steve Grove . He went far out of his way to assist me and my friends. We had made a tee reservation for the 26th...and due to unknown reasons it was never recorded at the pro shop. The course had two tournaments going that day and Steve told my friends and I to go to the range and he would work out the problem. Within 45 minutes we were on the first tee and enjoying a terrific golf outing. Thanks again Steve...
I will return to Rio Secco as the course was fun to play and staff are welcoming and truly professional and we appreciated it!!!!!
Special note: The views of the Las Vegas strip are outstanding and the homes bordering the course are "out of this world"....

My experience at Rio Secco, beautiful atmosphere, love the scenery, very friendly people 😀, Janelas Restaurant has delicious food to the order, the staff was very friendly and helpful, courteous thank you Chef Branden and your staff, I'll be visiting again soon …
Chase Yaremchuk
One of the most visually stunning courses I have ever played. Greens were challenging but not overwhelming. Fairways were tight and overall it was an amazing course to play.
Laurence Miller
The fall seeding is complete and Rio Secco is in superb condition for fall play. Greens are a bit slow due to length and the amount of water required to keep the tender new growth from burning in the still 100 degree afternoons, but this is common this time of year for courses in southern Nevada and inland southern California. This fun layout is challenging, but good shot-making is rewarded. Bunkers are a bit drenched due to course irrigation requiring some swing adjustment when bunkered around a green. The staff was courteous, welcoming and friendly. My next trip to Las Vegas will include golf at Rio Secco.
Michael Maher
What a track. Staff. Fairways are awesomeness. Greens are consistent. Beware.. back 9 are tougher. Your score card will sore on the back. But it's what golf is all about. I will be back.
Eve Li
Treated A+ from the second we arrived until the moment we left. Classy staff from top to bottom. Make sure to visit the bev cart girl. She rocks and can really play golf too!
Clinton Wasylishen
Great experience here, and great service/staff.
The course was enjoyable, though it was cart path only when we visited, and the course was a bit soft due to rainfall the day before, it was a great experience overall.
Beautiful surroundings.
David Hudson
Great course to play. A must play if you're able to get a round in.
Suzanne Lenaerts (Where2Golf)
Rio Secco Golf Club: This excellent and often dramatic Rees Jones designed golf course guarantees variety. Six holes weave their way through a canyon, six are perched atop a plateau and six run through the bed of a dry river (rio secco in Spanish). Not only is there variety, but also many spectacularly crafted holes and stunning views across Las Vegas, down to the famous Strip and away to the Spring Mountains in the west.
James Zents
Awesome place! Have played several times here and my wife and I decided to marry on this course September of 2014. We could not have asked for better service and planning by their staff. Will definitely be back.
Bill DeChon
Great course, staff was very nice, Course was challenging but fair. If you hit it good you scored good. Will definitely go back to play it again
Mark Zoeckler

Rio Secco was a great golf course and a good experience.
It all started with a friendly staff in the clubhouse. The restaurant was good experience as well.
The tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in great shape. The bunkers had lots of sand in them as well.
I will be back to this course in Vegas.
