Reviews of The Links at Heartland Crossing
Mark Harris
The Links is an excellent course with some very tough holes! It's always in great shape and play is typically very quick. One of my favorite courses to play in Central Indiana! Keep up the great work in maintaining this awesome course!!
BRYAN SCHOCH
Normally I love this course, but played on New Years Day and paid $46 for cart path only and no Flag Sticks in any of the wholes!
Understand the cart path only, it was extremely wet, but if your going to charge normal winter rates….put flags in!!!!
Very disappointing for $46.
Matt B
Great links course. The fairways are hard, so be prepared for the ball to roll forever if you hit it. The greens are in great shape. Elevated greens on a lot of holes, so play the back number off your gps. Cold water every few holes, nice cart path. Wish I lived closer. It’s came a long way in 2 years. It was well worth the $39.

Local resident who plays here. Course is in great shape with some easy and difficult holes to play. Be ready to lose a few balls if you it it into the rough! I wish they had an option to play without a golf cart since some of us want to get more exercise while golfing! Please make this an option during non peak hours (maybe week days?)
KEN SMITH
It has been a couple years since I played Heartland Crossing, I definitely notice a positive change in the overall condition of the course. It’s being managed better. A negative was $49 for the cost of the week day (Friday) round was high.
And some of the Heather around the bunkers needs cut down. I would play again but I would check for a special rate to get it under 40 bucks.
Overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Bru LaTulippe
The course was in great shape, the bunkers were in much better condition. Only thing I would say was the Heather was a little to high for my liking.
Joseph Fitz
Course was in excellent condition as always! Friendly, helpful staff as well! Pace of play was better than expected, especially for such a challenging course.
Chris Worthington
Played here this morning, what a great course. Of the three courses I have played in the area this is the best. If yer a fan of links style courses with fast greens look no further. I played Hickory Stick last week Heartland Crossing has them beat. The greens are in better shape and their bunkers are raked. The staff I dealt with was great, I forget if it was the head pro or the GM that rang me up in the pro shop. He even gave me more of a discount on shoes that were on sale. I will be back, the chicken salad sandwich I picked up making the turn was great as well.

I recently moved to the area and, since I am not familiar with the local golf courses, I purchased the WISH golf card. I've played about a half-dozen courses on the card so far, and played Heartland today. This was the best course I have played to date.
The course is well kept: green, fairways and particularly the many bunkers are well maintained. Bunkers are often an area in which courses skimp on maintenance, but I visited several during my round and they are were well-sanded and well-kept.
The course has a number of tee boxes, and can challenge a scratch golfer as well as a +20. I'm in the great middle, handicap wise, and played the blue tees. Fairways are generous, but you can find one of the many fairway bunkers if your drive is wayward. The par three holes are relatively short, but well protected. I found this a refreshing change from the many courses that want every par three to play 200 yards. Overall, the course is challenging but not punitive.
The course is also scenic. Even though it is a links style course, it has a number of tree lined fairways to make the topography interesting. Overall a very enjoyable 18 holes, and I would play this course again at its regular rate.
Brian W
Excellent layout, very challenging. Greens are fantastic. Pace of play is very good. 15 min from Indianapolis Int’l airport.
Dennis Staley
Yes, the course is in much better shape than it was 2 years ago but definitely not worth a 5 star rating (as some reviewers have rated it). The greens are in great shape but the fairways still have several dead spots. The far roughs are not links style roughs, where the grass should be tall and thin, enabling one to hit a shot. The far roughs are just thick weeds, making it not only impossible to hit a shot but usually not even possible to find your ball. The sand traps have sand in them but the edges are horribly rugged, not trimmed at all. The depth of these traps requires trimmed (and mowed) edges to make them playable. In my opinion, this course has way too many traps around the greens. It is next to impossible to roll or bounce a ball onto the green. If your approach shot doesn't hit the green on the fly, it has absolutely no chance of getting on the green. Most of the tee boxes are in good shape but several have a lot of crabgrass in them, as do several of the fairways. They do have a lot (5) of tee positions to choose from which makes it nice for seniors but a couple of the par 4 holes are still too long for seniors. The carts are electric and very peppy. There are too many other nicer courses to choose from on the south side of Indy. I probably won't be coming back this year.
Chris Worthington
This is a nice course good layout. The only negative thing I can say is something all the courses in the area are experiencing. They are short staffed so the bunkers are in bad shape. They look like they get racked once a week. More often than not I'm playing in the morning as in within a half hour of opening so I see the same bunkers that are a mess. Other than that this is a great variety and a test of every club in yer bag.
Steven Litz
Really beautiful course. It was windy and wet today, but the course was in great shape. Massive traps were all well maintained. Greens were happy, but pretty true. Tee boxes, fairways, rough were all immaculate. A great course for the money and, to top it off, it was empty today.
James Arnold
Course was in great shape. It played well. Only complaint was we had the first tee time of the day and when we made the turn, suddenly there was a six-some? in front of us. When we let the twosome behind us play through while waiting for the 6, the 2 called the Pro Shop to alert them. Nothing was done and we played behind 6 hackers playing two balls each, for the rest of the round. I just expected better for 50 bucks plus a bar tab. Kid working the pro shop was unable to handle the situation. Or didn't want to.
Tony Craft
Great effort being put into making this course one if the best in its area. This is easily becoming my favorite to play. Greens are top notch. Layout is challenging and can be played short from the reds or waaaaayyyyy back from the tips. Lots of sand. Some things like a few sand bunkers still needing repaired/filled. But the bunkers that have been filled are premium sand and very playable compared to other times and even other courses that are like playing off of mud and pea gravel. Staff is top notch!
I highly recommend this course.
Jeff Recht
Course is in great shape. What a difference from the last few years. Greens rolled great. Will definitely be heading back there!!!
Ron Wright
This Course has made a great turnaround from where it was just a couple years ago. It is early in the season and already in good shape. The bunkers are improving and all the hard work by the staff really shows. I am very excited to see the course continue to get better. One of the best tracks in central Indiana is fun to play again. Keep up the good work.
Ricky Patel
Course is amazing and challenging at the same time. Bunkers galore! A few years ago, i didn't like coming here. Course was in bad shape, completely dried up. But new ownership has done a complete 180 to the course. Fairways and greens are strong and vibrant. I Enjoy playing here now.
Nathan Herr
I have played here a lot over the years and we stopped coming because the course was in rough shape. We saw some of the recent reviews and decided to give it another shot and it did not disappoint! The course was in good shape, and it’s always had a fun layout. We will definitely be coming back.
AJ Paluszny
Played there earlier this week and I gotta say I had an excellent time! Course was in really nice condition and the golf staff was very friendly. Looking forward to returning in the near future!
Justin Jones
The upgrades and improved management coupled with the attention to improving the course conditions (sand traps, greens, fairways) has brought The Links at Heartland back to what it once was...maybe better.
Investing in and improving golf courses is a major challenge and these guys have done it well. Props to y’all for restoring one of my favorite courses. 🙏
Jonathan Osborn
Course hasn’t been in this good of shape in years. The grounds crew have worked tirelessly to transform this course from just your average track to a truly exceptional course. New ownership has done a magnificent job of getting the facilities and grounds back to the shape of the original intent. Highly recommend giving this course a shot. You won’t be disappointed.
Greg Utz
Played HC for the first time yesterday. A twilight round, the huge bunkers proved challenging. Definitely much better than the munis our work league has been on recently. You have to think your way around this track. Waste areas are guaranteed to result in a lost ball. Hard to find your ball in the rough too. Greens ran true and held a shot. Gonna play here again!
Lucas Engstrom
This place is trending downhill compared to courses in the area for what their green fees are. There are large brown patches on ever green, but at least the practice green is the same way so you can prepare for it. The fairways are good for the most part with some crabgrass moving in in certain areas. As far as the layout of the course goes, it has a lot of sand traps. Too much for my taste. And they are very large and deep as well. However, if you want a challenge, then this will give you one. Overall, I would think that most people good enough to enjoy this kind off challenge would have higher standard for the fairways and especially be greens. It's worth going if you find a good deal. We played 18 holes with cart for $17.00. Definitely worth that.
Steve Vaught
This course is returning to its original form and then some! The new owners are REALLY taking great care to repair the neglect this course has seen over the past years. Please take the time and play a round, the people are outstanding and you won’t regret it. It plays as a true links course should hard fast fairways and semi soft receptive greens. When you get to the course tell Ryan I sent you and receive nothing other then I want them to know the word is getting out..
Eric Lowe
Played 8/25 for $25. Course has improved tremendously over 2 years ago. The fairways are actually fairways again. 90% of the greens are in great shape. Just a few holes are the greens rough, and it's only small parts of the greens. Many of the tee boxes are looking better. Not as many weeds growing on them or crab grass taking over. The bunkers still need some help due to the rocks in them, but priority is the greens and they they have VASTLY improved them. You can tell the new owners have dedicated alot of time and effort into bringing Heartland back. Give it a try again if you crossed it off your list in the past.
James gruener
I must say this course has really turned around. It's been about 1½ 2 years since I have been here, I stopped going because the course was in such poor shape. I heard there were new owners and the course was in better shape, so I went back to see how it was. Well last week I went Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for their 1st ever night golf which was awesome. Needless to say I will definitely be coming back, Probably more times than I should. Thank you for putting time and effort into the course and bringing it back to life.
John Brown
This course has undergone a dramatic improvement. The layout has always been good but the overall care was lacking. Not anymore. The staff is friendly and working hard to create a great golfing experience.
Don Berry
This golf course has done a great job of getting the course back in good shape over the last two years. Assuming that level of improvement continues next year with better weather it should be back as one of the best courses on the south side of Indy. It's a challenging, well designed layout with tee choices to satisfy all players.
Wayne mitchell
The course is in great shape. The greens were outstanding. This course was in terrible shape 2 years ago. Our group always loved the layout but the course fell apart. We quit coming and we’re very disappointed. Under new management now and they are making great strides in bringing this course back to top notch . We can’t wait To go back next week.
Jeff Hostetter
We played 18 holes with a cart for $25.00 each. They have kept up with the watering this year and the greens and fairways are in good shape. If you haven't played this course for several years, you need to know that it is not really a Links course anymore. There is still plenty of sand around but a lot of the sand traps have been removed and a lot of work has gone into mowing the tall Heather grass back and opening up the fairways. There is still Heather but there is also nice fairway lanes where you can approach the greens. It's still a challenging course but it's actually playable for the rookies and pro's alike. I recommend giving this course a try and definitely call ahead to make reservations.
Judi Daniels
The Links at Heartland Crossing is a beautifully tree lined golf course with wonderful faiways and well maintained greens. It is a challenging course for beginners with the sand traps but well worth our day of practice. Evan was helpful when making my tee time and the golf pro was kind and explained the route of the course. Great customer service. Our daughter lives across the street so it makes it convenient too. We recommend trying the Links.
Matthew (Matt B)
This is a nice links course with some very challenging holes. The sand traps could be maintained better lots of hard sand. It cost about $40/round, no GPS in carts. Overall nice course not sure I'd make the 45 min drive to play again but definitely a must play once.
Joseph Loukota
A tough but fair test of golf. The rough was too-long (but not management's fault...all this rain has been crazy).
#10 has a 'very temporary "green"'.
New, solid management-company is working hard to restore what was, and they're doing great!
Great routing & challenging holes. Pick your tees wisely. Most bunkers are playable. I will be back & this may be my new home-course
Stephen Nagy
I was privileged to work for the developer/owner when this course initially opened decades ago and found the course then to be challenging, interesting and unique amongst Central Indiana golf options, with near links-like look and feel on some holes, coupled with the more traditional parkland style we're accustomed to seeing here. Having revisited it following years of maturation, I was thrilled to find it not only lived up to those initial impressions, but has also grown to be a tough, yet fair, test of golf. Some rough spots here and there (fortunately most are well out of play) that appear to be scheduled for repair/addressing, but otherwise, a pretty darned fabulous golf course. With five or six different tee boxes, I'm sure there's a level of fun and difficulty for players of all skills. (As which tee box is best for your game!) For the price, I'd put it up against any course in terms of value. While the COVID-19 era impacts what can be expected from a service standpoint, the pro shop staff was as friendly and "hands-on" as possible, helping us get started on time, and inquiring about our experience afterwards. If you get a chance, add this to your rotation!
Jarod Overton
A lot of effort has been expended to give the community a great place to socialize.
Jay Bilunas
Great facility. I was just out there for their open house and had the best time. Heartland Crossing is a great place for the community and we are lucky to have it as part of ours. Since the new ownership took over there has been a vast improvement in the course and the place in general. I would recommend everybody go out there even if you are not a golfer, check out the facility for your next event.
Gregory Hamilton
Last review from me wasn't so great, but everyone is deserving of a second visit. With this review I must say good and getting better every day. The new ownership continues to prove that the priorities at the course have changed for the better. If you haven't been in a while give it another shot, I did and I wasn't disappointed. Keep up the good work guys, the improvement fur sure is being noticed. Great job!
Ryan Abbott
2 years ago, I think I rated this course as a 1-star. It was quite honestly the worst course I had ever played on, condition-wise. Under the new management (who I think has been there for 1 year), the course is back to its near pristine conditions. The course is challenging, yet not impossible to score well. I will certainly make more trips to this course knowing how much work has gone into improvements.
Willam Horvath
Course is in excellent shape considering the draught conditions. The greens were outstanding.
Sam Lewis
Course was in great shape and play was very quick for a holiday. Every single group we caught let us though immediately. An absolutely incredible amount of bunkers, water, and heather which made for a tricky and enjoyable round.
Gerald McKinney
My favorite course. A good variety of holes allow you to use every club in your bag. Great friendly staff. The greens roll true. 5 stars.
Jake Grossnickle
Great course, and really professional staff! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for good golf around Indy! Had a group of 8 out there and everyone really enjoyed it.
Derek Lamle
Stellar course- picturesque, rolling hills, a lot of tee options, great greens , fescue. Requires a bit of accuracy off the tee and approach onto the green. Staff works hard and provides great experience. You’ll love playing here.
John Bell
This course was a good ,well maintained golf course but has been sliding downhill the last few years. At $35.00 it is overpriced compared with courses in the area. They have dropped the VIP and don't offer a senior rate . Check out Martinsville @ $28.00 or Hickory stick @ $24.00 both a better buy.
William Janisch
Here are the positives. The cost was very affordable. 34 dollars on the weekend was a great price. If you hit the ball with a forward spin you roll forever taking off lots of yards after the drive setting up for a short 2nd shot to many andulated greens. Tons of bunkers guard the greens in strategic locations where you have to drop the shot on sometimes elevated postage stamp greens. Greens were well maintained considering the hardness of the fairways and rough. The ball rolled true if struck well.
Now some critical thoughts. You needed a hammer to get your tee into the ground to tee your ball up. This gave me pause as to what the fairways would be like. Turned out the ball rolled forever because the greens were just like the tees. Taking a divot from the fairway was not possible. More times the ball slid off the iron causing hits to the right or left. If you got off the fairway the rough was even harder than the fairways.
The bunkers were deep, filled with limestone and not sand. I was in 2 bunkers. One on a greenside par 3 and another on a fairway bunker. Both times was able to get out without many issues. Water was in the course. A few creek beds and some ponds. They did not cause problems if you didn't slice or hook the ball badly.
Overall I gave this course 4 stars. I would recommend this course..
Terry Cardin
Must play if you get to central Indiana, greens are outstanding, great fairways. Staff was great, practice area is really nice.
jon pavey
Rates jumped $10 over last year...decent track, but probably won't play there much as they are overpriced relative to better courses in the area.
Michael Szucs
First time at this course and thought it was great. This is a challenging links style layout. Course is in great condition aside from a few greens and bunkers. Great value and fun! I will definitely be back.
Mike Wieland
Played Heartland Crossing on Sunday and it was great to see the improved conditions from last year. They are really going in the right directions. Remarkable difference on the greens. Keep up the great work!
Scott Ankney
First time visitor to Heartland Crossing. Really enjoyed the course. The layout is wonderful. If you haven't been there before or not in a while, you should. Friendly and helpful staff made us feel welcome. Thank you
Jennifer Kobylarz
The course is in beautiful condition! We love the options of the regular tee areas, the family tees, and the Par 3 course for our two young boys! We'll be back soon!
Dewey Graham
The management protects the course for a better experience for the golf course. The greens are great and the quality of the turf is better than average considering the bad weather that is effecting all courses in area if last poster was turned down for anything it was for good reasons.
Ronald Wilson
The new ownership is really working hard to get the course back in shape from years of neglect. Fairways and round are excellent and the greens are about 90% back. You have to play it again.
Rebecca Eldridge
Great place to play!!!! It's a wonderful course with friendly staff. The greens look really good!
chris wagner
Would like to come back in the spring...slow play today.
AY
Nice and challenging course with lots of bunkers, some are quite deep. Friendly folks at the Pro Shop and cart return.
Harley Dee
This course use to be in very bad shape! It is really starting to look good now! Great job by everyone making it look and play so good! Do youself a favor and go back if you said you wouldn't!
Charles Martell
Nice course! Lots of bunkers which gives it a professional feel. Staff were great! I'll definitely go back!
Tommy Walker
Really nice course, some pretty challenging holes with well protected greens. Staff was friendly and informative. I'll be back to play again.
Patrick Parham
I played here in October '16. The greens were in phenomenal shape for October. There was a lot of construction going on. Hopefully they can get that cleaned up for Spring of '17.
Jason Thomas
Nice course and friendly staff. Don't play here if you're trying to learn. Players on the course will rush you.
Angie
I was not there to golf. I was there for event at the club house. The club house is very nice. They have lots of inside and outside seating. There's a nice porch area that over looks the course. Very nice.
Ralph Whitaker
Great track, with ownership bringing back the course, after playing there over the winter months can’t wait to see it when it dries and speeds up.
Claudio Marimon
Lots of the greens are in bad shape. Fairways are in great condition. Course layout is fantastic. Shot makers course
Evan Hibschman
1st time playing this course a few weeks ago. Course and staff were great. Look forward to playing here again many times in the future.
Jay Bilunas
Great time as always. They put together an Indy 500 scramble and then we watched the race afterwards. Really good time.
Ty Dillon
Great staff, course is improving monthly, rates are fine, 18 dollar day is Tuesday, lots of sand, only negative is some players here will not let you play through.
Justin Carlton
I have not played in several years and this was a good place to get back in the game. Staff was friendly. $30 to ride 18 holes seems like a descent price.
Jim Thomas
Great greens, Proshop staff, and halfway house crew! Much better than the area courses and affordable. I’ll definitely be back!
Tyler Meyers
Course condition has greatly improved. The night golf they hosted was a lot of fun
Charles greer

(Translation) Morning fee is very reasonable. The greens are in very good condition. I think it's even better if you put white sand in the sand trap
