Reviews of Gus Wortham Park Golf Course
Dennis Jasinski
Awesome day on the course today. The greens and fairways were in great shape! Challenging course it was. The front is fairly long and the back is short and treacherous. Lots of protected greens! Big bunkers and mounds to make the round challenging.
Caught a pic of a gator snoozing. Stand clear!
They allowed pets to join in the cart for an added fee
It is definitely worth stopping by.
Rio Rico
This renovated course is all class now. Nice, manicured, tee box, fairways, & greens. Enjoy walking this course. The topography is unlike no other in course in HTown! Well worth the costs to finally renovate this historical golf course 🏌⛳🏆 …

The BEST kept secret 🤔 in town. Those that know know how great this course is for the tee rate. Stop comparing to the other, "it" muni, this takes the prize. From the remodel a few years back of the course, to the new club house and the great The Grill w great adult beverage options for during and after your round. Don't wait to grab a tee time! Great staff to boot!
FYI, great cheeseburger w seasoned fries! 😊🤙
Robert Johnson
New club house looks great
Awesome putting green
No chipping green though
19th hole looks like good food and spirits
The course itself was in great shape, contour all over the course, great contour on the green's
Needs a little rain but that's not they're fault
Jacob Rodriguez
Likely the best greens & fairways in the Houston area. The best bang for your buck as well, walking 18 on a Sunday morning ran about $44. They could charge double and it would still be a fair price. There’s many courses in the area that are much more expensive and are at best, just half as nice. Houston is very lucky to have this muni.
Kolton Anderson
Great track. Greens roll smooth. Fairways are mostly soft. Tee boxes were the only reason it didn’t get 5 stars. They were a little rough at times. Other than that great golf course.

GOLF TIME :)
D-Star and I got out to Gus Wortham golf course, and it's in magnificent condition out there!
Country club level clubhouse and course! Friendly fun greeting from everyone we encountered.
We really enjoyed it out there, and look forward to playing it again soon.
BIG O APPROVES and highly recommends getting out to GUS :)
P B
Great course. Newly renovated. Only reason for not giving 5 stars is the tattooed girl that works the grill. 3/26/23. Most unfriendly probably entitled idiot I met in a while. But maybe she’s a city employee or hire which would explain all.
People who work and travel different places don’t necessarily know the alcohol policy. All I asked was, what time do y’all serve alcohol. Her reply; If u can read the info it gives u all the info. All I so wanted to say “That’s why the best job at your age is to work at Gus wortham’s grill ”. Not the course or city’s fault. It’s probably her absent parents or maybe the woke culture. The clubhouse and everybody else is professional. Keep it up. Very nice layout, greens are in great shape and the bunkers are awesome.
Sam Sengsouvanna
Best hidden gem in all of Houston. 41 to walk/53 to ride, can't beat this rate for a top notch golf course. It's better than a lot of private clubs I've played. Friendly staff, easy to get tee times on weekends. An easy walk, pace of play is generally really good here. Greens are always in great shape.
Sean Yuan
If you're looking for a challenging course with a nice clubhouse, Gus Wortham Park Golf Course is the spot. The atmosphere is lively and fun, with folks out there perfecting their swing and having a blast. It's a bit pricey, but hey, that's the cost of a great game.
F kafka
Fun and challenging public course. The staff was helpful and friendly. There are a variety of holes long and short that keeps things interesting.
Bryan Garcia
This is a great place for golf lovers. For those that aren't so big in golf it is a real patience tester. They have 18 holes. Sand traps. Slopes. Well maintained greens. The only thing that keeps this place from the 5 stars is the fact that it's right next to a busy street. There is a big risk of injury or causing an accident. Other than that is a great place. Friendly staff, patient. They have rental golf clubs. They sell gloves, t-shirts, cleats and drinks. Also the place has rental golf cars or carts for you clubs in case you'd like to walk.
Philip Pegg
Fantastic golf course for the price. We paid $42 for the round and cart combined. We all love this course and the challenging holes. Newly renovated clubhouse and decent driving range are fun too.
Myles Wilburn
Great place to play golf! Definitely updated the course and buildings. Slot times were appropriate and did not cause long wait times. greens were very nice and kept. Seemed to find the sand often...
William Hicks
Great shape, great layout, great value.
Fairways and greens are in excellent shape (July 2022).
Practice putting green is one of the best at any public course in Houston. Range balls and hitting mats are very good.
New clubhouse is functional with good service and good food (including excellent breakfast burritos), plus hard working friendly staff.
I walk 90% of the time but be aware it's a workout due to several holes with significant hills and the lack of shade (I often use an umbrella in the sun).
Highly recommended.
Bryan Carroll
Incredible job done bringing this course back!
Greens, fairways, practice facility, all done excellent. It is perfect for walking or riding, the elevation changes are very unique for courses in this area. Architect Baxter Spann and the HGA have done a top notch job.
More work on the way with chipping green and club house. I’m excited to get back out there.
Hou M
This is a great golf course with well maintained greens & fairways. It also has a new clubhouse. Areas of improvement could be a ball dispensing machine & shelter in the driving range as well as a practice chipping area & improved protected parking. While this is a first class golf course, being muni/ public it gets players of varying abilities. Many bad players here unfortunately & the errant golf balls injure people or damage property. The group in front of us were stopped by the marshal as their errant shot broke the windscreen of a passing car on hole 2/3. I, too came back to my car parked in front of the clubhouse to find a huge dent on the hood! May have come from hole 9 or the driving range. This would be a 5 star facility short of the above limitations & hope to hear from management (HGA).
Jerod A.
First class HGA facility all the way. A little casual, but for some guy time in with my youngest 😁 …
John Morgan
Good course, greens are terrific, and price is great. Also has a nice little restaurant with good food.
Christina Fodor
The course is very nice and well taken care of. Never let down on the the views either. Beautiful and relaxing.
Anthony Kunen
Great course.,.fun fairways and perfect greens. Some of the road hole tee shots are nerve wracking, it will challenge you.
James Davidson
One of the nicest golf courses in Houston! Service was also excellent, one of the few courses that checks to make sure you were satisfied with your round.
Jacob Beck
Played May 21st afternoon round. Greens are absolutely incredible right now, I was blown away at how good of condition they were in. Some tee boxes were a little chewed up but not much you can do about that. Fairways are a little hard but nothing to be upset about. Really fun and for the price hard to beat in the Houston area.
CT Trinh
I love the course. The conditions and layout is comparable or better than most public and country club courses in the Houston metro, and the green fees are very affordable. The staff is friendly and helpful (especially Fabian Torres), new clubhouse has nice amenities, and the putting green and driving range are very good. The only improvements I would recommend is adding a practice bunker area, lengthening the total yardage of the course, netting and fence privacy screens along holes #2 and 3 on Wayside Drive, and drink/food cart.
Rob Hanlen
Course is in great shape. One of the best pubic golf courses in Houston.
Yash A
We were in Houston and got a chance to play on Friday after the thanks giving day. Course in really great shape. One of the best muni courses you can get into. Layout is awesome and plays tough. Lacks a great clubhouse to go with it, but we were there for the golf. If you are in Houston and can’t get into memorial, this is the one. Only difference is name recognition and at a much lower cost!
MrSvn13
Great Condition! They did a great job with the makeover of this course. Do yourself a favor and play this course if it's been a while!❤️
Christian
Full disclosure - I'm not a seasoned golfer (yet), so take this review as you will.
I've played at a few different courses around Houston and I'm ready to say this one is my favorite of the bunch. It's really in great shape and reasonably priced. My understanding is they've invested lots of money into it recently and it shows. I came here with 3 friends last week and found the fairways clean and the greens smooth. Just watch out for the tee boxes near Wayside - easy to pop a ball over onto the road.
Lidia Braboveanu
I'd like to give this course higher rating, for the effort to build an oasis in the middle of Houston. BUT they definitely need to clean the Brays Bayou that passes through the course! Take a look at these pics from hole #7 - it looks disgusting! Few turtles were trying to make their way through the garbage and God forbid anyone falls in! Yikes.
Ker Charitkul
The course and the greens are always in top shape. A challenging lay out and worth the price you pay to play. Only gave 4 stars because it's never that friendly or welcoming in the pro shop.
Kevin K
Best greens and value for your money in town. All year around. Houston is lucky to have this kind of muni. Staff that work here are extremely friendly and accommodating. Would recommend to anyone!
Fred Granger
The course was in great shape, the greens were 95% back, i think a month or so ago, the greens were punched. Even tho it rained 12 hours earlier, I saw no water on da course, I hate cart part only. I would give 5stars, but, $50 (tee'd off Sunday at 3:10) kinda, u know 😎 …
Yana Yana
We have a good time here golfing and having fun
Great golf course prices great
Will T
AWESOME! The renovations of Gus Wortham Golf Course has given new life to Houston golfers!!! This pic is looking back into the 7th fairway from behind the green.
Jay Delgado
Undulation is amazing!! It's not on every hole, but the holes that have it are awesome. At times you'll be around 50 feet below the green and have to hit up to it. Greens are amazing! They are pure, even on a day where it rained in the morning. They were fast and smooth. Staff are also top-notch. They were helpful and checked on us to see how the pace of play was. It is a shorter course for sure, but it will definitely test your short game, and since you're so close to the street on some holes, will also test your long game accuracy. For the price, you can't beat it.
Andrew Mills
One of the best golf courses in Houston. The course is never unreasonably priced, it’s always in great shape, and it’s run properly. Consistently sending off a full group every 10 minutes. They just recently opened the new pro shop/bar and grill. I drive 45 min to play here over a lot of other courses.
Kevin Eisenhart
Favorite course in Houston area to play!!! Greens and course in great shape. Course layout is good for all level of games. Really enjoyed my round
Chris Smith
Absolutely beautiful corse! They've done an amazing job renovating this golf course. This my new favorite!
Joseph Adams
Can’t wait to see the new short game area! Great prices!
Tommy Vinh
I enjoyed the challenging and undulating layout, excellent greens and fairways condition, practice areas, price, new clubhouse, and super friendly golf club staff member Fabian! The entrance road has been repaved and there are more parking spaces than before. It would be helpful if yardage markers were added to the sprinkler heads and a cart person to sell drinks/snacks on the course.
Mark Huey
The course has undergone major renovations and is much nicer.
Ryan Heine
5 star Rating taking green fees into account. The people are super cool and the course is in great shape - greens are great, sand is fluffy. But don’t play there because you’ll take my tee time. ;-)
Andy Ayers
Great municipal golf course. Can play for $20 w/ cart after work. Pretty great deal. Course is in great shape. Only downside to this course is the lack of netting or more trees near the road way. You can really damage some vehicles if you have a slice. The first few holes are really pretty dangerous. Also a few fairways were pretty hard (like concrete) and need to be aerated.
Richard Foisner
Wow, this is the first time I have played this course, since it was redone. All I can say is amazing! The greens were perfect, and the fairways fantastic! The layout of the course is pretty much the same as before, but there are some changes and they are good changes. I completely enjoyed my round of golf on this course and will return next week. The clubhouse is gone and will be replaced by a new facility in the future!
D T
Changed this to 5 stars after playing it regularly the past several months. Great layout, decent fairways and great greens. Price is very reasonable also. Courteous and professional staff. My first trip, the parking lot seems like it needed some more spaces, but I have always found a spot. New clubhouse recently built so facilities are very new. Only slight negative is on holes 2 and 3, your are parallel to a busy street and any bad slice has a chance of a window accident, and the bayou can sometimes have unpleasant debris/trash floating in it, but these are only minor relative to the quality/layout/price of the course.
Juan Carlos Abadia
Wow what a great track. Beautifully manicured and lovely design. The greens are super fast. Too bad they don't sell beer and their pro shop could be better but its by far one of the best muni courses I've ever seen. Word of advice: the blue tees are deceptively long.
Michael Ogg
One of the best muni’s in Texas!! The foods great too!!
Nicholas Hayes
This is my first time back to this course since they’ve redone it. Unfortunately they just aerated the greens and fairways. Without aeration I’m sure it’s a nice course but in the meantime it’s just okay.
Pace of play was great teeing off at 9am on Saturday, exactly a four hour round.
James Roussel
Went with a buddy this past weekend. Round costs about $50 and is completely worth it. Greens and fairways are in great conditions. Holes have lots of variety and run a pretty long for average players (400+ yard par 4s - drive pictured below with view to tee box and greens far in the distance). We loved the variation of design of the holes and I’ll be playing here most of my rounds from here on out.
Jarred Vos
Has some great holes but sometimes greens, tee boxes are in awful shape. Previously for the cost I’d say a great deal, but the same to play memorial ?? Suggest playing elsewhere.
Hunter Palmer
I’ve played every course inside the loop public/private. Gus Wortham is hands down the best public course you can ask for since the upgrades. Greens were rolling great 2-3 weeks after being punched, tee boxes in great shape, aesthetically pleasing holes and elevation change.
Hope no one finds out about it so it doesn’t get over crowded.
Don’t play here unless you are decent.
michael olexy
The renovated layout is AMAZING, especially if you've played here before and dreamt about what it could be. The fairways are undulating and smooth offering a mixed bag of stances with challenging bunker placement making you choose clubs wisely. The greens run true and fast though they didn't break as much as I had anticipated. 4 stars....(no 5th star due to lack of yardages provided on the course, no hole description at tee box, no amenities, and cart was not ready with fresh scorecard/pencil)...I admittedly already liked the old Gus, but man this new Gus is going to be my new favorite course
Timothy Childs
I was not impressed with this golf course. It is a great layout and it could be challenging if the tee boxes and fairways were in better shape. Pace of play was "Christmas in July" slow. They have NO MARSHALL'S on the course and we could not find adequate drinking water on the course. They have some work to do before I ever go back. There are better golf courses in Houston for the money.
R Turner
Just played it for the first time. This course is a gem. There is a lot of topography here, unusual for Houston area courses. The greens are very cool, lots of undulation. The routing is fun, because it's kind of quirky (the site is small, and the old course dictated a lot of the new layout, and it adds character). And after all the rains we've had, it had drained very well. This course is a must-do.
H D Dunbar
Certainly a great value for the money. This course just blew me away. It didn't appear to be much different but really Friendly staff and it has some very good / challenging holes. It far exceeds Sharpstown or Bear Creek. Its much like Stephen F. Austin but its only about 30 minutes from any point inside the Beltway. I like it better than Memorial and the waiting is less.
Many beautiful live oak and trees give it real beauty. I recommend it for any amateur golfer....
Oct 5 2016...played again today and further conviction that this course it just great. BUT my critique has to do with the length of the grass--fairways are right but the adjacent grass is TOO LONG and a lot of time is wasted looking for ball that roll just inches off the short fairway grass...please cut the grass about the same as the fairway (would save doing it separately) but leave it longer just around the water hazards and bunkers. Thanks see you next week...
David Florance
Wide open fairways; natural terrain; urban setting; weedless course; nice, strategically placed bunkers, and slick, well maintained greens. If you are not a good player expect a high number on your score card.
Juan Carlos Fernandez
Hands down the best public course I've played in a long time. Value is unmatched by any course in Houston.
Bobby Balderas
Finally made it out to Gus Wortham since the renovation, all I can say is Wow!. What a great job on the new course layout, beautiful fairways, very nice greens. When the next phase is complete, this will be the place to be, can't wait to get out there again.
LloydD45 M
There are a couple of nits (discussed below), for which I would probably really rate this course 4.75*. Start with the great: (1) incredible value, I am a senior who walks weekdays, $18 all in, more expensive for younger golfers and on weekends but still a great value, (2) great greens by Houston standards, marred only by failure of many dolt golfers who don't go to the trouble of repairing pitch marks on greens, (3) great layout for Houston, most courses are flat as pancakes, when they redid Wortham they moved a lot of dirt, now have many elevation changes which greatly adds to the ambience of the course and challenge around around the greens, (4) good online reservation system, (5) very friendly, courteous and helpful staff, unlike many courses that act like they are doing you a favor to let you play on them; The nits: (1) parking lot leaves much to be desired, (2) not many yardage markers, if you are a good enough golfer for that to be critical, I recommend getting the inexpensive Garmin Forerunner distance finder, Wortham is in its system, (3) not Wortham's fault, its the hand it was dealt, but first three holes run along a very busy/noisy thoroughfare, which takes a little bit from the ambience, but after that, beautiful course. Other comments: driving range a bit small, mats (typical for public courses these days) were really nice two weeks ago when I was there, balls a bit substandard. No chipping or bunker practice area. Pretty easy to get on Monday/Tuesday mornings if you book in advance, Wednesday opens late due to maintenance. Pace of play good for walkers like me, average round 4:15. Only 6400 yards from the blues, so if you are a long hitter, it will be a little short for you, but age 70, some of the par 4s are a bit long for me at 400+ yards. On most holes, no real rough, so you can be a little short, find it hit it again, and get there in three. Hats off to whoever redid this course and put the current situation in place!
Everett Urech
Played 6/22/2019. The course is in great shape. The re-design/refurbisnment has done wonders to the course and layout. It is a hookers course with most of the out of bounds and water on the right. Elevation changes make for tough approach shots to well bunkered greens. The only drawbacks were that the facilities were in temporary housing and entry roads had not yet been paved. Overall it is a terrific golfing experience. Highly recommend.
larry allen
The course is very challenging course. The wind blows from every angle you can imagine. The Greens are immaculate hidden behind bunkers with sand like snow.Bring your A game.
Jeff F
Google maps directs you to the wrong location, the entrance is kind of janky, and the pro shop used to have wheels, but don't let that stop you from trying this delightful gem! The course was in fantastic shape, it was hillier than most places in Houston, well designed, and the price wasn't bad either.
Eddie P
You will be hard pressed trying to find a better bang for your buck in the area for sure. The greens are always in good shape. The HGA took over the course and it shows. It's walkable and on the shorter side but still has it's challenges.
Juan Zermeño
Good value for your money, some challenging holes with elevation changes, creeks and trees. Greens could be in better shape and in most tee boxes the ball washers are damaged, missing parts, club washers are all broken. Car paths are destroyed, terrible shape. Overall it needs some maintenance, there is plan to upgrade most of the complex and they are in the process of raising money, hopefully it improves. Also no beverage cart so you need to bring your cooler and fill-up before you start. I will continue playing here since it's a convenient location and good value for the money.
Russell Greco
Really overhauling the whole course and it's only going to get better. Quality inn the loop course with history and growing prestige. Excited to see the new clubhouse soon and more houston events. RGC also had an outing here before.
John Salas
They have made a once great golf course, great again. The layout has always been a favorite. But the new renovation has made it once of the best municipal courses around..
Go Coogs
Hilly, wide-open track where wind plays a major factor. Some days, it feels like you’re into the wind on 15 holes. Quick greens and a great pace of play during the week. Walkable but expect to climb.
Ivan Holmes
Greens in great shape. Challenging layout. Steady pace. Good enough rate. Make sure you check your GPS, ours took us through the neighboring cemetery.
j woo
In my opinion this is 1 of the best priced and conditioned public golf courses in houston
Justin Sunseri
Course was immaculate! Amazing what they have done with this layout.
Drifter
pro, great public course, very unique and undulating fairways and greens, holes varied lengths and mixed layouts, good value.
con, no club house and restaurant. no 5'some allowed period, even on slow days. we had 5 players, had to break up 2 and 3, even no other players behind.
Dylan Sutton
Very nice course! Best greens I've played on in Houston. Not much for facilities, and not the greatest location. However, the course itself is very well kept.
Dean Costis
I've always loved this course and it's better now than when I played a few years ago. It's not fancy and it's still under construction, but it's well groomed with enough water to make it interesting and attractive. No complaints.
Jose Siciliano
My favorite public houston golf course, getting plenty remodeling lately. I play a round every time I can, yet I had not shot a photo 😂 just realized. …
Terry Tillerno
Super fast greens! Course is in great shape! Once they have the new club house built & a short game practice area, the course will be one of the top courses in the area!
John Creighton Coyne
Really cool course, and challenging layout. Greens and course were in great shape. Just renovated, like new.
John
Great location, and a good course to learn on. Easy layout, decent greens. The staff however is lacking... Just another bunch of entitled wanna be pros. Go for the love of the game. Not to make new friends.
Nick Fisher
Clubhouse almost complete as of 8/10. BYOB days are over. But still amazing historical track in downtown Houston. Bucket list for anyone from Houston.
Douglas Fritz
Got rained out, when I went in to ask about a rain check the guy said why were still open. It's been raining, lightning and thundering for an hour! It's still raining they're standing water in the fairways and it's still lightning out. So much for our safety.
A. Craft
Love the new look! Wide open but with scenic views, once the fairways completely grow in this is going to be a Very nice track! Play it today!
Ken Martinez
Driving range was great but course too crowded to enjoy a round, or even 9 holes. Will return to check it out. Looks really nice!
Chris D
Golf is a walking game. Course is beautiful and much improved but I miss the old staff. Much friendlier place before HGA moved in. Love the course. Hate the new country club vibe.
Jim Smith
I love to enter here with my friends.
April C.
Really like this course now that it has been renovated, I think it's harder now, and lots more sand bunkers. Pace of play was spot on at 4 hours on a Sunday morning.
Michael Knox
Very nice and well maintained Track. Not long from the blues, but very CHALLENGING, but gives you a chance to post a good score. I'll be BACK!
Becky Kamas
New clubhouse is open and very nice. Course was in great shape!!
Ha Ha
Subject – Customer Service – Beverage Cart
Finally ….they have a beverage cart girl!
Excellent customer service and friendly!
Now they need an ipad system to accept CC and BEER!! ….cash only at the moment.
10/10
Justin Kirby
I think this might be Houston's best public course, even better than Memorial after the renovation
ivan ivanov
One of the top courses in town. Great staff and the new clubhouse and grill are beautiful
David Fuller
Great course, one of the best in Houston. Good service as well at the shop and concessions
Bernard Bridges
First time playing GWGC, paired up with two great guys that is familiar with the layout. To me it plays longer. I'll play this one again.
Jesse Burgos
Great time golf course looks great.
Sean Rainer
Nice course for the price. Concessions leave a lot to be desired. They are closing this course down for renovations soon. I look forward to seeing what they do with it.
Eduardo De Jesus Vivanco
It's ok
Gene sanchez
What a nice lay out.. Great job on revision.. need to only have riders on weekends.. it was slow play do to walkers on the weekend.. over all great job.. Will be Back with freands.
mike holden
Course is fantastic, but the staff is Rude and lazy, they are willing to do nothing for you, again I was in the presence of 3 staff members have no business in retail public business
Emilio
My son loves playing this course with his older brother.
Snuddy Craig
There use to be a par 3 238 yard hole that always destroyed my hopes of ninety. The course is open enough for the week end slicer of the ball and can be tricky. It is fair. So tee 'em up and let out the shaft -you can here.
John Cheek
New rendition of 100 year old course. Like a country club, beautifully maintained. A great value.
D L
Course is in great shape! For the amount of traffic on the course, pace of play wasn't that bad.
Mike Mireles
Course always in great shape, new club house is a added plus, great service, will be back!
Cody Hugo
Great course, tough greens. Definetly good price and will play again.
jay malakaua
Always great shape! Best value in town!
Reginald W McCoy
This course is an amazing municipal display of beauty . Great job guys
Toriano Taylor
Course is in great shape. Greens are fast but in excellent condition
Gregory Baynard
Course was in great shape but have to do something about parking.
CURLEY MCQUEEN
Played this course several times. Not bad but not worth what I was charged to play on Friday $53.95 way too much.
Dre Josiah
First time played. Course in great condition, just got rained out. Would definitely play it again.
Leroy Blanks
Outstanding golf course. First class clubhouse and driving range.
Daniel Schmeltz
Best golf deal in Houston. Since they remodeled, course is in excellent shape.
keith tonnessen
The golf course itself is awesome! The rest is a work in progress...BYOB if you've never been...
Leo
It's basically the red headed step child of the City of Houston Parks Department. It's not a bad course, but it could really use some grooming.
N R
Always a good time, provided you can get a t-time.
George Walden
love the course. best maintained public course i have ever played
Michael Hood
Fantastic rework. Course is in very good condition. Really a great experience now.
Benjamin Bernier
Course is great shape after the city invested some money into the facilities.
Gregory Williams
Challenging!! Sands trap guarding the holes. Putting can be a bear. Good experience.
Daniel Jimenez
Great course ..and really good food must come and eat ...very polite and clean course ..
Jason Williams
Great golf value with elevation not seen in area much less inside loop 610
Keith Williams
I love the redesign of this course. It was still in good shape too.
Art F. De La Garza
Great course! A lot of sand but wide open. Parking lot under construction.
Ryan Sweat
The course was in excellent shape. Greens rolling 12 or better
Jason Moore
Cool course. I actually really enjoyed it. Course is in great shape
Archie Craft
