Reviews of Gillette Ridge Golf Club
This was a pleasant surprise tucked away in Bloomfield, Connected.
Arnold Palmer designed a magnificent golf course that challenges all aspects of your golf game.
It's a challenging golf course but not to the point where you're no longer having fun.
The greens are in excellent condition which makes them delightful to put on.
I'll definitely stop by here whenever I'm in town again!
I had my daughter's baby shower at Gillette and I can't say enough good things about Gina and her staff! From the moment I met with Gina, I knew this was the perfect place to have the shower. She is flexible, offers great ideas and made sure that I was satisfied in every way possible. The best part was I got to drop off my decorations the day before and not only did many staff members help me bring in the items, Gina and her staff decorated for me! No other place will do that. The room is a great size with great views and I would definitely have other family events here if the need arises in the future!
I realize it is the off-season here in November so I don't want to be too critical, but the sand traps were in terrible shape. They were all washed out around the edges and just in tough shape in general. The greens were also recently aerated which is a little odd for this time of year or they just haven't healed at all from earlier in the fall. Besides that it was in decent shape and can be a fun and challenging course as it requires some accurate ball string on several holes and a par or bogey can easily become a double or triple bogey.
Golf course for golfers that know how to play. Layout is challenging. If you want to walk make sure they allow it in season. Designed for cart golf. 19the hole is a nice layout designed to sit and look out over the course which is nice.
Recently played the course.
Conditions were top notch.
Tough layout but love the challenge.
Golf course staff were super friendly,
from the pro shop, starter to the bar staff
we’re all great
Definitely coming back 👍
This course fell into disrepair a few years back, but that's no longer the case. Everything is now pristine. Tees, fairways and bunkers are in great shape, and the greens are fast and pure. It's pricey, but discounts can be found, by booking through their website.
Played today, the course was magnificent, well groomed and maintained. The staff was exceptional! Very attentive, and the pro was out greeting people and making sure all teetimes were on time with no pressure plenty of space in between tee offs. It was a fabulous experience!
Nice golf course to play. A bit challenging and scenic. Would be hard to walk so recommend a golf cart.
Played here for the first time today. The course is well maintained and the staff was very friendly. The layout is on the more challenging side so bring some extra balls. Definitely give it a shot if you haven't already.
Gillette Ridge will challenge, amaze and excite all levels of play, especially as you maneuver through a variety of terrain; tree-lined fairways, spectacular carries, as well as several natural obstacles that have been perfectly considered in the layout of this golf course..
However, it's not a course for the faint of heart. But it is a course that will help you appreciate golf with a whole new level of understanding and appreciation for those who can conquer this crazy game we've all come to love.
Our Safari Club Adventure to Gillette Ridge was nothing short of spectacular. The course itself is incredible in every sense of the word. But everything about the place will invigorate your love of the game.
Loved the general feeling here. Chris, the starter, was a pleasant Starter. I’m a beginner—so him giving tips on the course and being encouraging meant a lot to me. I was excited to check in with him at the turn and let him know how the Round was going!
Greens are pure, I like the fairway conditions, but bunkers could use some work. But what can you expect given the record rain this Summer.
Overall great experience.
Nice enough place, however, the course is exceedingly difficult in my opinion. There seems to be more hazard than golf course. Make sure you bring plenty of balls, you'll loose many.
I have not been to Gillette Ridge in several years. The course is a hard course for higher handicaps. I must say the condition was very improved from my last visit. Will need to put it back in the rotation
I've been playing Gillette ridge since it opened. The changes they have made in the last 6 months are absolutely amazing. 1st thing you notice is they have totally Changed the way you are greeted, you pull up you drop your clubs they get you all set on the carts, the staff is attentive the pro shop gets you moving quickly and efficiently, the new pro Bart greeted us at the counter, explained the palmer design and gave us the pro shop # if we had any issues whenn we finished the bar/restraunt was right there to get us food and drink. So happy to see this course is back and better than ever.
Mid July 2022. Despite the lack of rain the fairways and greens are in pretty good shape. There's a lot of places to get in trouble on this course. I found quite a few of them this visit.
Difficult course but it is kept in great condition. Joining players club ($40/month) makes it hard to beat in terms of value. You can play twilight at just $15 including cart along with other perks.
The course is a pleasure to play on and the crew is among the friendliest in the region. Lucas, Chris, Marie, Jordan and others are extremely helpful and make playing here a very pleasant experience. The course finds out your game very quickly. Rewards you if you play well and if you don't.... oh well.. just bring a bag of balls.
This tract has been under multiple ownerships for the past 30 years. Currently, carts have no gps. There are very few course distance markers. Greens are decent. Fairways are spotty. Play can be slow bc little ranger involvement.
I have had the opportunity to play at Gillette Ridge a number of times this year, and find the course to be in tip top condition. The staff is very accommodating, and friendly with the appearance that they enjoy their work.
The course is challenging, and playable by all levels of golfers. The only drawback has been the bunkers, which have been overwhelmed with rain.
As a previous rater of courses, Gillette Ridge is a must play.
Got a chance to play Gillette Ridge for the 1st time in a while. Have to say I'm glad I made the trip the course was in great shape The pro shop was friendly and helpful The starter got us out Right on time and when we finished up it was nice to have your clubs cleaned By the cart staff. great selection of beers And a couple of really good appetizers made for a great day of golf. I won't hesitate to go back again.
First time playing here in years for a charity tournament. Even better than I remembered, best shape I've seen the course ever, greens are rolling great.
I have never played Gillette Ridge until last week with the Safari Club. The whole course was beautifully manicured. I felt the course was in phenomenal condition much like the Florida courses I'm now used to! The fairways were so tight that putting was the choice shot up to twenty feet off of most greens. The greens were fast and perfectly true. The rough was like a fresh haircut, smooth and even. You could hit hybrids out of the rough without a problem. This course was wonderful to play requiring me to play smart and technically correct shots. Things I'm not use to doing. The hazards forced me to lay up on most par fives and put a premium on my short game. I enjoyed this course so much that I will be heading back there on Tuesday to play the course again.
I highly recommend this course and worth the price with their senior special.
Great day. Workers arrive to make your day a great experience. Course is very well maintained and fairways were like most courses greens. Great place to play 17 holes. Long course to walk. Cart recommended.
I had the fortune of playing this perfect and challenging layout with the Safari Club on August 30, 2017. The layout was great and the care for the course was top notch. It was a true golf test and I concluded that perhaps the slope rating was a bit low as compared to how I would rate this course against others. I cannot wait to get back there again as once you have played the course, you will definitely approach holes a little different in you strategy. This course is well deserving of playing.
Fun challenging 18 hole course set on the grounds of an insurance company whose name I can’t recall. The fairways tend to be narrower than what I’m used to but this isn’t a bad thing. The terrain and home are varied and afternoon fees for 18 holes are a great deal (sub-$40 last year).
Played here on 8/30 with the Safari Club. What a track! VERY interesting and challenging holes! The course layout is very different from most of the courses we play, with it's marshy areas. The course is spread over a large geographic area, and there are only a handful of holes where you can readily see adjacent holes. I'd love to play this in the foliage season, as it must be beautiful. This course reminds me a lot of the courses that I play in Myrtle Beach. It was in excellent condition throughout. Staff was very well organized and friendly. Looking forward to playing again next year.
I played there this morning and first off the staff amazing people ver welcoming.Chris thank you for all the tips!! The greens are in amazing shape, fairways are mint. If I'm back in this area 1000% be back great bang for the buck well worth it thank you for a great experience
Very challenging, scenic, and well maintained golf course. The staff are very courteous, accomendating and always welcome you with a smile. I always enjoy my round @ Gillette Ridge Golf Club!
I think the golf course is well kept and the service with carts was better than average. However, I am a 9-hole golfer and I repeatedly was not allowed the tee off on the back nine. So I played the front nine three times this past season I never got to see the rest of the course. Likely I Won't Go Back unless they change their policy.
Front to back its a very challenging course. Play conservative the first time you play or you can get yourself into trouble real quick. The fairways were in excellent condition and the layout was picturesque. Its a fun track to play even if you break a club or 2. The greens were well maintained and well placed. The downfall and travesty of these beautiful greens is that golfers are too friggan lazy to repair their ball marks. Spent half of my time on the greens repairing your marks. Come on! Have some course respect for such a well maintained track. Its obvious they make an effort to bring you an awesome golfing experience. I would most certainly recommend Gillette Ridge to other golfers and will definitely be back !
Love playing here! The player's club membership is definitely well worth it. If you play at least once a week and go to the range at least 2 twice a month you save so much. The course is maintained well and the pro shop has a variety of apparel to buy. This is one of my favorite courses to play in CT!
First trip up from NY. Certainly will not be our last. It was a chilly, windy day and had a fantastic day. Course conditions were awesome. Greens were amazing. Course is challenging and staff were very nice. Very very pleased we came.
Nice course, great scenery, true greens and reasonable rates for seniors.
Played Gillette Ridge yesterday with The Safari Club. Fantastic course!! Very challenging but enjoyable play. Very scenic. The course was in great condition. I highly recommend playing there. I also noticed in the pro shop that they are offering a great deal to play during the week.
Gillette Ridge was in tremendous shape when we played it last week. The greens were excellent, and rolled quite fast. The attention to detail by the grounds crew was evident. The course is not one of the easier ones we play, but it was a fair challenge. i would go back and play it again in a heartbeat.
5/2021: Straight fire. The boys Joe and Chris will make you feel like you're home and hole 9 will make you feel like you should quit golf.
8/2021 Update: I still think this place is dope. Special thanks to Emily, Taylor, and Sawyer. The service they provide is impeccable to say the least. Still hate hole 9 though.
What a fun track to play. Great layout.....great conditions, while in middle of a drought.
Drove from Mass twice to play it, despite an hour drive. Great deal for the price. Wish we had found this course 10 yrs ago!!
This is such a fun course to play and the value is outstanding. Everyone who belongs is nice and the best are the people that work there. My absolute favorite employee is Chris! He is so friendly and always has a big smile. Thank you Chris for your warm hospitality. My friend Li was right.....Chris is awesome and so professional. He deserves a raise. I hope his boss is reading this! :)
This has always been a great course. The new staff this year is doing a great job. It’s like a country club for a day.
Great course! Always in great shape and fun to play! Friendly and helpful staff from the starters, in the club house and the restaurant! If you want a fun outing with friends this is a perfect place to golf! Very reasonable prices also.
Heard that the course was purchased and reopening after having been closed for a year. Found out that the back nine was open while they worked on getting the front in opening shape. To be honest, I hadn't played there since the course originally opened because it didn't impress me. My wife and I went over to play nine. We enjoyed it so much that we ended up playing the back twice and had a great lunch in the restaurant. Had a nice chat with the new General Manager and was impressed with the plans he outlined to bring the course back into a first class facility. We will definitely go back and if the rest of the course works out as well as we experienced today my review will increase to 5 stars! The place does need some additional cosmetics and "TLC" but based on what we saw and heard today we are optimistic that we will have a great place to enjoy.
I played Gillette Ridge in late August, 2016. Course conditions have never been better. This was my fourth time playing this course (first since 2013) and I was highly impressed. Greens were in great condition and the bunkers have been vastly improved. Price was a bargain at $55 on Sunday morning. I can't imagine that the prices will remain that low for much longer.
Gillette Ridge made a big mistake since they starting making players tee off on 10. If it was for speed of play, It did not work. long, painful rounds. No one is monitoring the players at all. No marshals. Usually no starter anymore either. I used to love starting with an easy fade on #1, then play the awesome par five # 2. 17 and 18 were great finishing holes. Now instead, you have to finish on the worst hole on the course. Very disappointed. Arnold would be too for sure.
The food in the restaurant is always fresh and prepared well. Staff is friendly and courteous. There's great views overlooking the golf course and surrounding area. For golfers it's a very challenging course designed by Arnold Palmer the only one in New England designed and built by him.
I played this course with the Safari Club 2 weeks ago. Very nice conditions, but quite the challenge. Fast greens, and many holes had trouble left, right, and center. They say it is the 3rd hardest course in Connecticut. Believe it!!Bring your game with you.
Arnold Palmed signature course. Good layout, interesting course and tough. Many traps and hazards. The first time I played there with the Safari Club. You have to play it 2 or 3 times to score well. Its in excellent condition from T-Box to the green and they are very fast. The whites play 6133 yards
Best deal in CT. Beautifully maintained course with challenging and scenic holes. Bring lots of balls. This course will give you all you can handle from the tips but multiple tees make it fun for all handicaps. Food great and staff friendly as well.
Chris and Andre were awsome. our group had an amazing day of championship golf. We wont play here again unless the are the starters!!🤣⛳ …
Played here recently and enjoyed it. It's a "modern" design with many forced carries over water, ravines, and waste areas. My personal preference is for more "classical" designs like those by Ross, MacKenzie, and Tillinghast, but it is a fun course despite being a little "tricked up". Found the tees and fairways "chewed up" with many unfilled divots for a high end course, but it gets a lot of play and was late season with a greens fee discount so maybe maintenance was also reduced. Greens were also a little slow for a course of this caliber. Important to pick the set of tees that match your ability, as the difference between them is 500 yards or more. In my experience, many men play from a yardage that exceeds their skill level which will "eat you up" on a course like this. They have multiple tee boxes which allows for flexibility but also confusion. Some holes played +/- 75 yds compared to that listed on the scorecard, so be sure to check your GPS device or the yardage markers. Overall, I would recommend it as a course worth playing for golfers who appreciate a challenge and don't mind losing a "few" balls.
I love this course but today the white tees were located back to where the blue tees would be on many of the holes
When asked why I was told the white tees were too short
This makes no sense. If the white tees are too short then move back to the blue tees, don’t move the white tees back to the blues.
This is a no brainer.
I would not play here again if the white tees are not moved back to their original positions
Have played with Safari Club past month as well as 2 other times as they have a great senior rate also.
The course is well groomed and greens are quick and challenging ( for the average hacker) . A well designed New England style course. Don't pass it up ! Nice lounge also.
I played here with the Safari Club 2 days ago and the course is in fantastic shape. The fairways, tee boxes, bunkers and greens are perfect. The food is great and at very reasonable prices. I will go back there again.
This is the finest course in CT. Yes, it is very demanding and you have to flight your ball on several holes to score but what a tract! After you are done, repair to the outdoor veranda for the best quesadilla I have ever had.
To top it off, beers on tap are fresh and delicious.
One of my favorite courses. Not maintained as well as it was a few years ago but a very nice layout and the course plays much different from different tee boxes.A nice mix of holes that plays challenging from the tips to a nice fun layout from the front tees.I am an 8 handicapp and have always enjoyed playing this course. I like this course more than most muni's i've played and recommend it to all skill levels just play from the tees that best suit your handicapp
Gillette Ridge is a great test of golf. Many of the holes require precise positioning off the tee. The only criticism is that people are not repairing their ballmarks on the greens. This is a shame.
It is honestly sad how bad this track has fallen off. They don’t even use a starter at this course anymore it has turned into a clown show and it shows from every aspect from top to bottom
Nice and challenging course, but it seems like they book too tight. It took me 4 hours and 30 min to course out due to the delay.
This is a challenging course for intermediate and beginning golfer. But the layout and design of this golf course is very unique and nice.
Also you can enjoy very delicious food in restaurant.
Played with the Safari Club on August 30th .
Great golf experence super conditions from tee to green but you Must chooose the tee that fits your game or it will eat you up.Choose correctly and you will have the best golf experence ever!! The food was great and the staff was very helpful and friendly . This is a track you will want to return to often a true test of golf!!
Course greens were being aerated and they left a number of greens with so much sand that we could not even finish or put. They should have done it when the course would have few players, not in the middle of the day with players lined up.
Great course, it was a little wet but after the April we had it was expected. Will definitely play again, I received a free draft beer after the round with my receipt.
The restaurant is by far the best food around 👌🏻💪🏻 …
Gilette Ridge provides a challenging test of golf. The course is well treed, carved through a wooded area with streams and woods entering into many shots. The greens are well trapped and guarded requiring well played approach shots. Gilette Ridge is in fair condition early in the season.
Had lunch at the club. Greek Salad they forgot the olives- like really. But overall the salad was good with chicken added it made a healthy lunch.
Nice course. Conditions were excellent and it is very challenging. The routing of the course is a bit crazy and confusing, so walking is out of the question.
I had the illustrious opportunity to have one of Connecticut's best golfers Bruce Kraczkowysky show us how to swing properly and Gillette Ridge is a beauty to behold! I definitely plan to return.
Great track at a steal of a price. Fairways, rough and greens are in great shape. Greens roll true and fast. You'll use all the clubs in your bag.
Gillette is now in the Arnold Palmer golf group. They have revitalized this course, putting in a great future plan with a professional staff. From the golf course to the dining experience, this is a "must do" day of entertainment.
Great course, in great condition, but difficult. Prepare yourself for losing some balls...
Top notch, from the clubhouse to the starter to the attendants!
Great experience with a fun, challenging course.
Going back soon
Course was in great shape! Greens were consistent, great pace of play, never waited more then a minute to hit a shot, unreal on a holiday!!!
Course is in good shape. Amazing beer selection on and off the course. Staff is very courteous.
Course was in great shape, but $72 with cart on weekends is way overpriced compared to other local courses.
Beautiful, challenging, and priced accordingly. Been playing here for years, and the course has never looked better. Bring your A game, this place will challenge you.
Just went to hit a bucket or two. Players Club is a great value. Check it out. Course is in excellent condition. Love the challenge of playing here
Great beautiful club. Excellent staff and service. The layout was good and the care of the course was top-notch. Definitely would play again here.
Solid appetizers. Great beer and drinks. Fun and knowledge staff.
No excuses. Go eat. Drink. Laugh and ask for Alvarium beer out of Hard Hittin.....New Britain!!
Great course for the $, a lot of blind shots that will make you scratch your head later... wish they had GPS in the carts...highly recommend though
Safari trip to this wonderful golf course....If you want a golf challenge to a course in great shape with a friendly staff then you need to go to Gillette Ridge...Cant wait to play it again
Played Gillette Ridge with the Safari Club on Wednesday this week and the course was in excellent condition and very challenging especially playing it for the first time. Looking forward to playing it again.
Great course, the golf carts need an upgrade, but facility is nice and the course is in great shape, it's challenging but fair
Excellent golf course layout. Welcoming and friendly staff. All around pleasant golf experience.
Couse is in great condition and there were no delays. Challenging but fun a place to play.
Enjoyed it. Starter was very helpful. Course is difficult but playable. Only negative was the greens were inconsistent.
Tees, fairways and greens were really nice.
Also helps it was perfect weather.
Excellent golf course! Challenging and in great shape!
Love lay out and greens. Pricey inthe summer months can't play as much as I'd like
What is the best golf courses I played this year greens were immaculate and conditions were perfect
Great if you can have laser focus over all 18 holes, excellent challenge,
Nice course. Fairways and greens are great. They usually have an email special price.
Course is a lot of fun but could be tough if your a beginner.
Very nice track
Love this golf course! Challenging!
A very beautiful golf course. Designed by Arnold Palmer Company. The staff are very friendly.
Well maintained and challenging. Bring your A game
One of the Best courses in CT. Gets crowded definitely need a tee time
Decent Happy Hour drinks and munchies. Trivia on Wednesday night was fun. Relaxing and chill.
We ate at the restaurant (outdoors). Service was quick and courteous, food was good !
Beautifully maintained!!
Outstanding practice area/range.
Challenging layout.
Great shape , great deal for seniors. Pace of play was good.
Tough and great layout. Reasonable and no easy pars with those greens. Will play again....
Nice course but super slow
Five hours, twenty minutes on May 13th. Enough said.
What a great course, beautiful, challenging and interesting...great shape, too.
Good shape for December...greens held good shots....
Course is in great condition, and the pace of play is very good.
Beautiful setting, a bit pricey but food and service is good.
Very nice golf course that has been turned around from the last time I visited.
Holiday luncheon for work. They provide a good spread. Service is very good
Great course. Fast greens and challenging fairways
Clean manicured lawns nicely laid out lanes carts available
Great course. Beautiful greens. Challenging
Staff was friendly and efficient. We enjoyed the experience.
They do a great job on the whole course. Especially the Greens.
Very tough course but enjoyed playing there
Good condition except for all the traps, they all need to be raked and remove the stones.
The views from the patio area is so relaxing during this season...
A course that is always in pristine condition, but one of the most challenging.
Course was in good shape, staff was very nice.

challenging golf
The difficulty level is a bit high, but for a Nokeddy, it is well managed.
The course is natural, the greens are flat, and the management is perfect
Ugh!
