First time playing this course. Very enjoyable layout and the houses are not right on top of the course. Greens were very slow and some construction on 15 was the only reason I'd give it 4 stars.
Thomas Rue
The Legacy is a top-notch course in the Des Moines metro. Challenging holes & interesting layout, well-maintained, and beautiful views throughout. As other reviewers have noted, there is a fairly strict pace of play policy - keep this in mind, particularly if you are booking during the busy times in the week/weekend. Carts equipped with GPS; always a plus.

Had our annual church golf outing for 96 golfers this week. Trevis and the golf staff do a wonderful job making the process go smoothly. The course was in awesome condition. Angie had the luncheon ready to go when we finished and got us through in no time. Good was great as well!. Highly recommend the Legacy Golf Club for a group outing or just a fun round of golf

Played the course for the first time in 12 years this evening- just getting back into golf. Still the most beautiful course in the area and well taken care of despite the drought we’re in. Alex (I think was his name) that was working this evening was wonderful. Will be back next week.

Great course design. Very forgiving off the tees but challenging on the second shot. The variety of pin placements, tee boxes and wind make this course different almost every time you play it.
Nice to see pace of play respected. If you like everyone in your group huddling around to watch the one person hit their ball or spend 5 minutes looking for your ball you will get called out by the clubhouse. You can be a high handicap foursome and still not hold up the course if you play ready golf.
Bill Hendershot
Love this course and especially the service from the Manning family.
Please ignore the July 1st post from Jeff Backous. Our foursome
was directly behind them and they were playing SLOW. They started out a
hole ahead of us and we caught them by the fourth hole. Groups behind us were backing up because of this one group.
I play 50-60 rounds per year at the Legacy Golf Club and the Manning family has treated us very well. Great golfing experience!

I play here frequently and only have positive things to say about the legacy. The owners and staff are great, pricing is fair when comparing similar courses in the area. The course is in great shape every time I play.
I played here three times this weekend, with golfers of varying skill levels, including with my 11 year old son who shot 112, and never took more than 4 hours to play. Slow play isn’t about skill levels, it’s about being prepared.
Yes the staff will let you know when you are behind, yes they may ask you to let groups through if you don’t speed up, but this is necessary to ensure my 2:30 pm round doesn’t take 6 hours to complete. One slow group has a snowball effect on the rest of the day.
For those leaving negative reviews about the pace of play, I’m sorry you felt rushed or insulted. Don’t take it personally, just get ready to hit your next shot.

Great course. Imaginative, challenging good condition and picturesque. Very fairly priced. Staff and food great too. Play it. You won’t be disappointed. One shout out to Bob, one of the marshals. He went above and beyond in fitting us in for a last minute tee time. He gets it that it’s about great service and a simple passion for golf, that keeps you coming back, let alone spending $ while there. Unlike the two younger staff there, who were all about the rules and not going the extra mile. Kudos to the older generation. Learn it kids. Never just settle for the easiest path.

I’ve played The Legacy Golf Club course for many years now and the course conditions are second to none. It’s groomed better than a lot of the private courses throughout the state. I think the staff is very accommodating and seem to take that extra step so your experience is enjoyable. During this pandemic, the club has really stepped up its game so you would feel safe playing the course during this trying time. I recommend Legacy my friends & family.
Brad Kobernusz
I have adopted Legacy as my "home" course. Played 40+ rounds there this year and love everything about the course. Course is maintained beautifully, staff is friendly and attentive, best golf carts I have ever used and I personally like the pace of play requirements. In my opinion, it is the best value for the quality of the course in the Des Moines metro.
Jacob Ausman
Great course. Have made the trip down from Minnesota several times and it is worth the drive. Lots of fun challenging holes with a great mix of tee yardages to suite all the golfers in your group.
Brent Goheen
I've been playing The Legacy for.....a while now. My group stopped going to other courses on Sundays a few years back and chose Legacy has our home course playing it 2-3 times per week. Beyond the beautiful and challenging course itself that Neil does a tremendous job maintaining, the main reason for us sticking with Legacy is the staff. Matt, Trevis, Angie, Neil, Joyce, Alan, Jonnah, Jessica, Amy, Sam, Matt, Tanner.... everyone at The Legacy are second to none in making you feel welcomed and appreciated.
The pace of play policy is appreciated. We welcome the reminders and it is consistent with the same caliber of courses as Legacy.
Green and cart fees are very reasonable and is visibly seen going into course improvements with bunkers, cart paths, carts, tee boxes, greens along with other cosmetics.
The clubhouse and pro shop has all your needs. Highly recommend the breakfast sandwich!
Seth M. Mosbrucker
I have always enjoyed playing Legacy. I have played in several outings (TaylorMade, etc..) as well as casually in foursomes and twosomes and never had any issues with pace of play or any of the staff. The course is kept in fantastic shape and is challenging enough for all golf levels, no matter your skill.
I will continue to look for times when I am in the Des Moines metro and will continue to sign up for the TaylorMade outings every May.
Keep up the great work!
Matthew Bunger
One of the nicer courses in Iowa. Top 5 for me. A golf shot is required for every tee shot and approach.
Definitely not a spray and pray with the driver. There are a few shorter par fours. And a few very tough 4s, the course requires most clubs in the bag to be used.I've played here with several friends. Everyone describes it as challenging, and a tough course. In my opinion, it is difficult, but not impossible to play well. Highly recommended and my go to

Had a great round of golf here (great experience, not necessarily great score). The fairways and greens were in great shape. Fairways are nicely groomed and wide. The greens are very challenging! The course fees were very reasonable. I thought about walking the round, but the front 9 has such long stretches between holes, I'm glad we rode in electric cart. The back 9 would be easily walk-able, though. Carts have very good interactive GPS features, also. I'd like to play again, if I'm in the area.

Just played 18 holes at the Legacy in 3hr and 30 min. By far the most enjoyable round I’ve ever played. Course was full and never had to wait on the group in front of us. This place is changing lives! Great course, great people!
Bob Askelson
The Legacy Golf Club is as good as it gets for courses in the state of Iowa. The Manning family does a great job of meeting the needs of all who play there. This year, in particular, they met a huge challenge presented by Covid-19, and handled it well, keeping players safe. I like to play other courses, but The Legacy Golf Club, is always my first choice.
Mike Staudacher
Always friendly
After reading other reviews I felt it necessary to add - pace of play has little to do with your skill level. My wife plays once a year and we have no trouble at all in playing in less than 4 hours when we play with another couple. If you are ready to hit when it's your turn there is no way it should take you 4 hours.
Mike B
I've played this course multiple times since it was built and if you want to take 5-6 hours to play a round of golf then this course might not be for you. The Legacy staff is very accommodating and polite to deal with. They pride themselves on making sure everyone who plays their golf course has a good experience. Pace of play is stressed to everyone who tees off and I think experienced golfers will appreciate that.
Unfortunately the review by Juan is the reason why golf takes 5-6 hours to play for the all the golfers waiting behind Juan. On a nice Friday, there are typically 64 other golfers on the course. I've played my share of 6 hour rounds and nothing is more frustrating than seeing a one or two hole gap between groups playing in front of us. I would hope the ranger is asking the slow groups to speed up their play.
If you want to play on one of the nicest public golf courses in the Des Moines area then this is the place for you. The staff will treat you right.
Nick McStud (NickMcStud)
Legacy is truly one of the most beautiful courses I've ever been too, the staff are very nice and are always happy to assist you with whatever you need help with. For being as beautiful as it is the prices are great. I consider it the best value for my dollar in the des moines area, they have anything you would need for golfing. I regularly golf here and the service is always top quality, they keep always make sure you are satisfied

Not likely to return - not because of the course, but because of the service this time around. We've always loved this course and the staff has always been friendly and informative. This time, not so much. We played 18 holes and decided to stop for lunch then replay a second 18. We got through 9 of our replay and came upon #10 tee box with league players teeing off. When we asked Brennan in the pro shop about this, he said we only paid for a 9 hole replay, but no one told us we could only replay 9. We would have declined a 9 hole replay and simply gone elsewhere for a second 18 had we known. Then when we inquired about a proper slope and course rating that was not on the card, he seemed to blow us off with "I don't know." He did come after us to try to point out what he thought was the proper rating on the card, but the damage had already been done. We will actually miss this course.

Thanks to the entire staff at The Legacy for another great summer! The course is always in great shape (in spite of whatever mother nature throws at it) and the staff is professional, courteous and accommodating. This is why we play The Legacy - we know what to expect and they deliver.
Matt Ulrich
Great course, great staff and great time. I’m from the area and we are blessed with some very good public courses, but for my money Legacy tops the list. Course has a good balance of challenging and fun holes and you can tell that ownership prides itself in presenting the golfer with a quality experience. Course is always in fantastic shape, the golf cart GPS is pretty cool, helpful, fun staff and I can tell by personal experience as well as reading other comments, they care about getting you through your round in a fair amount of time. Thanks everyone at Legacy, I’m looking forward to my next round.

We were staying at the resort so we played here a couple times (North Course). The course is in good shape and very well maintained. The range is top notch. It is one of those places with 2 courses so the members play one and the resort guests and daily fee people play the other on alternate days. There is just something about the place that makes one feel like one is subsidizing the club for the members but is a second class citizen. It is just a feeling and shouldn't stop you from playing a great track.
Paul Oderkirk
Wonderful staff. Great experience for over 10 years. Come play. Thanks to the owner for speeding up play. MANY ENJOY GOLF at the Legacy because they enforce the pace of play. I am sorry you cannot play golf in 4 hours and 15 minutes. We have had 5 somes on weekdays that play in under 4 hours. Thanks to Trevis and his crew for keeping pace of play a consideration to all who love the game. Paul

The Legacy staff was very courteous throughout my entire experience at the golf course. During the round there were a few groups in front of us that were behind pace. The ranger then came and told us that they had talked to the groups ahead of us that were slow and asked them to speed up. I have not found this at many other courses that I have played. I like the fact that they are conscious about their pace of play on the course to complete a round in a quick, yet reasonable amount of time.
Don Schoen
Great staff, course is one of the best public courses maintained. Tee boxes allow different levels of golfers to enjoy the course. If you like to play fast get to the course earlier in the day or later in the afternoon.
This course will challenge all of your shots.

So far the best course I have played in Iowa. Fun, challenging course, with good bunkers, and elevation changes. The rough is thick and can be a challenge. Wish I was closer to play jr more.
Nathan Miedema
The course was in great condition. But the incessant "pace of play" reminders are nauseating. I get it, no one wants to be there for a 5 hr round, but when I'm reminded 12x before and throughout the round, you just feel rushed. We finished in under 4 hrs, and could never relax and just enjoy it.
j agans
We played Tuesday and the three JD tractors with gang mowers followed us through most of the holes!!! It was like playing with a million killer bees buzzing!!! I thought if they mowed the course backwards then at least they might pass you once or twice but they went 1 - 18!! Then on 17 past the mowers a guy starts string trimming next to the green while we were putting. I guess you don't have to have golf etiquette if you own the course or maintain it.

I played the Legacy Golf Club as part of an outing with 20 players in an outing that we have been participating in for the past 16 years with guys from 6 different states. It was a great opportunity to play a course designed by Jeffrey D Brauer, who designed Colbert Hills in Manhattan KS and Champions Run in Omaha. The course was in fantastic condition and it was great to work with Trevis Manning on setting up the event. Trevis and I had a great discussion after the event to review ideas.
Roger Bartelson
Great course in the Des Moines area. It is forgiving off the tee but challenges on the 2nd shot. You will use alot of the clubs in your bag and the greens can be tough if you put the ball in the wrong place. Lots of elevation changes and scenic shots. Its a great course for the money and the owners & employees are some of the nicest around. Its a course I could play on a weekly basis and I do! I have played the best in the world and would rank this a solid 4.2 out of 5.
Dizzle69
Had a great time playing at The Legacy with one big exception. The course was in good shape and I was playing good - shooting a 79 from the gold tees but the kid who was the ranger for the day was clueless.
We got a few minutes behind on the first hole when we had to look for a couple balls and ended up being 8 minutes behind pace after the 4th hole. Ranger Rick decided to warn us 3 times about pace of play even though the 2nd and 3rd times the group behind us was nearly a full hole behind us and the group in front of our foursome was a threesome (we were never more than 12 minutes off pace).
We finished the Sunday round in 4 hours and 30 minutes on a very windy day and putting out all putts - we left the 18th green as the group behind us got to the 18th tee.
Nice course but definitely need to teach your rangers about when to talk to groups and how to be a little friendlier. It tainted our experience.
Telling a group on the 14th green "this is your final warning or else you'll have to skip a hole" when the group behind us is still in the fairway of 13 is stupid.

I hesitate writing this review, because for whatever reason, a lot of people in the Des Moines metro don't even seem to know this course exists. The Legacy is quite possibly my favorite course to play in the area, as it's always in incredible shape and is very well designed.
Only downside would be slight frustration with the golf cart GPS that will shut off the cart if you enter an area deemed "off-limits". The issue with that is that you don't really know what is "off-limits" until your cart stops and you are forced to put it in reverse in an attempt to get back in the cart's good graces. These areas are not as intuitive as one might think..so you'll be looking for your ball and the cart will just start beeping and stop. I've played the course enough times to know where these areas are now, but I know the first couple times, I was frustrated with that. It would be helpful if the "off-limit" areas were marked on the cart GPS map.
Again, that is a very minor issue. The course is absolutely one of the best in the entire state, and I'd argue the nicest public course anywhere near the Des Moines metro.

Legacy always a great golfing stop. Course in fantastic condition. Friendly service oriented Staff. Hole #2, always challenge.

I've been playing there since they opened in 2002. Well run golf course, from clubhouse management and events to their sand in the bunkers. I would recommend anyone coming to the Des Moines area to play golf here. You won't be disappointed.
scott oglesby
One of the nicer courses in Iowa. It was in great shape today. The greens were smooth and the fairways were well maintained. The carts have GPS to help get around.
Don Puterbaugh
From Kansas City. My wife and I travel the state for work and our clubs are always with us. Iowa has a plethora of amazing golf courses, and this one ranks right up there. Fantastic course, bravo
Mike Rundle
Still the best course for the money. Playable at all levels.
Terry Glasgow
Note to Jack- Unfortunaely, I don't see it your way either. Groups were held up and others enjoyment greatly affected while you and your buddies played the role of " we paid a lot of money and are entitled." The Legacy has always been a great experience with the attitude everyone matters. Thought it amusing it was all about how much money your group spent. There is always some business just " not worth it" . Not sure you will be missed.
Jans Man
Play this course regularly and it is the best public course in the area. As for others complaining about being warned about slow play, don't play slow and ruin my round. If you can't get it down in four hours don't play because I don't want to be held up by you. Also, don't worry about the group behind you, keep up with the group ahead of you.
Jaey Sedlacek
Great fall golf. Great anytime golf. Better than a lot of country clubs. Legacy gets better every year. Fast pace of play. Thank you Manning family.

Might be the nicest public course in central iowa. It is a scenic course with bent grass and 1st class GPS in all the carts.
