Otter Creek is a very nice course. Very much a links design (similar to a lot of European courses). Long rough and lots of water and sand traps. The course is fun and challenging, but not overwhelming. Anyone could comfortably golf here and the prices aren't bad. It is well-kept and fairly flat. The only ding I would give is if you get too close to the edge of the course, the carts become a pain to maneuver because of the gps thinking you are off the course, but actually not. Definitely worth a go, however!

I golf once a decade. Golfed here last week, had a good time. Besides other golfers not fixing ball dings on the greens, it is very well taken care of. If your looking for beer girls on the backside, they are not there.

A 4.4 review rating is far too low. I have driven by this course so many times driving between MPLS-DM and never thought about playing here. This summer for me was all about playing at courses I have never played. Also quality courses. I played down the road this summer numerous times at TCI and loved it. It wasn’t until recently when I was looking into the top public courses in Iowa that I read up on Otter Creek and discovered how highly rated and how well reviewed it was. I played it this week for the first time and I have to admit, after all of the reading my expectations were pretty lofty. But my expectations were exceeded. From the start, the staff was friendly and accommodating, even going out of their way to get me set up early with a cart long before they allowed me out on the course because of frost, so I was able to get set up. The course was in excellent shape. The tee boxes were flat. The fairways were like carpet. The rough was thick and lush, but fair. The greens were immaculate, some of the best greens I have played on this summer. This was the 141st round of my summer and I would rank it right up there with the best of them. I played 9 of the states 10 best public courses this summer in the state of MN, these greens at Otter Creek would rival any of them. Unfortunately they are closing this week and I won’t be able to get back down to DM again before then. But I guarantee I will be playing it again next spring, summer, and fall next year! Phenomenal golf course by Paul Miller!

I have really enjoyed this course. Few trees but not without hazards. Greens were recently punched but still rolled true and were reasonably fast.

The course is always in great shape. The prices are very reasonable and a full practice area. Good driving range also.

Recently played the course after about a 3 year hiatus. The course is in great shape, especially considering the recent substantial flooding that occurred in Ankeny. Any areas that were still damage were actively being repaired. Carts are great as is the GPS system. It is nice you can order food when your coming into the club house on 8 and 9 on the GPS system so it's ready to go when you get there. Club house is very nice and the bathrooms are clean. Had a great time, looking forward to returning.

Well maintained course. I played in a best shot event, the course handled the 36 foursomes well and we had a good pace of play.

Had a tee time at 4:36 on Friday and it was a tad backed up and behind. Got off the tee box about 4:45. Didn't get done with 9 until 7:05, since it was going to get dark at 8:45 and we wouldn't be able to finish 18, we looked for a raincheck. At first, they were only going to give us $6 which I did not think was fair when we paid $43. After discussing my frustrations and speaking with Collin, he gave me a gift card for the full round. I explained I would have been back either way, and he didn't need to do a full refund but he insisted. I am very thankful and grateful for that and it is things like that, that will keep me coming back. I will be back this week to get a round in. Great course, lay out and in good shape. Thanks Collin.

Great course. The only thing that kept it from being a five star was the service in the Tin Cup Bar & Grille. The staff was too busy talking among themselves to offer the level of expected service. Also they did not know how to pour a beer from the tap!!

Very nice course. I felt the price was comparable if not better to other course i have been to. golf carts were very nice too. Staff was plesent and helpful. I have played here twice and had a great experience both times. The first time I played here I ended up playing with a very kind elderly gentleman who plays there frequently and if he is any indication as to the caliber of people you will find at this course you will not be disappointed.

Beautiful course . GPS carts . Greens fast but excellent condition . I came very early in the season and the grass was green and well tended to . Pace of play was very good . I would absolutely recommend playing before May 1st or late fall for the best prices, given the course is still in great shape either way .

Playable. Walkable. Decent layout. Don't expect under 4 hour round. Will almost always be windy. Amenities are OK. I hate carts with guardians... Even if I understand the need for them. I think the GPS for the guardian needs recalibration.

Played otter for the first time last week and had a great time! The fairways were beautiful and the greens were just WOW. Easily the nicest course I've played this year.The interstate noise and the big expensive houses didn't bother me because,you know, those folks were working! Cheers Otter, I'll be back!

One of the best courses we’ve been to in the Des Moines area! Well kept grass and the staff are great. Every time we’ve been there they’ve done a god job of spacing the tee times enough where we don’t feel rushed or are waiting on the people in front of us. Gotta make sure you don’t drive on a hill or where you’re not supposed to or the gps will make you reverse at .5 mph til you get back to the designated area 😉 we’ve had a few problems with teenagers running and skateboarding behind their houses while your trying to golf but that happens

Facility is nice. The course is fun. There are better "bang for the buck" courses, but it's worth playing 1-2 times a year. Restaurant and bar, fantastic!

This course is beautiful!! Plays pretty easy with open hazards. I only lost one ball during our play which is pretty good for a hack like myself. Trevor in the pro-shop helped us on a rainy Sunday. Thank you Trevor! I will actively work to play this course again. I live in Minnesota and if I am ever in the area I will work to get over to this course again. Thank you!

Nice in-town links-style course. Greens & fairways are typically in really good shape. Clubhouse is one of the nicest in the area for sure. And you'd be hard-pressed to find a golf course in Iowa with more beautiful homes surrounding it. I know it's pretty standard for municipal courses to space tee times ~8 minutes apart, but for $54/person, I feel 10 minutes is probably more appropriate. If you're in a faster group of 4 people (or even a slow two-some), be prepared to wait on every tee during peak times. I was there recently on a chilly Sunday late afternoon, and it took over 2 hours 30 minutes to complete the front 9. They do have an official starter most of the time, which is helpful. But for whatever reason, almost no courses in the state have marshals. Some groups just need to be told to speed it up or let people play through. The course itself has a nice modern feel to it, and offers enough challenge for experienced players, while allowing enough forgiveness for lower skill levels.

The course was in good condition, greens were quick but readable. However, the waiting time was obscene. We were 20minutes late to tee off and they staggered tee times every 6 minutes. I was barely off the tee box before the next group hit their drives. After the front 9 (almost 4 hours!!!) the back 9 opened up and finished on pace. Would play again, but either the first tee time or the last...

We had our Cornerstone of Hope Orphanage golf outing at Otter Creek this year. The staff was great and everything was very smooth. They had the golf setup so it was well organized and the lunch and dinner was on-time and everyone said it was good! We will be back.

Course is wonderful! Expect to wait... even with 2 starters they DO NOT monitor play. From hole 9 to 10 TWO groups were allowed to play ahead. We were to, "they were told to hurry plau"

I like the course with the exception of the interstate noise, not a fan there. The course has enough wiggle room side to side, with obstacles, to make it interesting. Go! Check it out!!!

The course is ok at best. Nothing exciting about it. It's a typical neighborhood course with house-lined fairways and minimal small trees. Not a single memorable hole to be found.
