Reviews of Raymond Memorial Golf Course
Nice public golf course. Every time I've been here, it's appeared to be well maintained. Good fairways and groomed bunkers with a lot of light sand. The people working have always been pleasant and done a decent job getting us started on time. Pace of play has typically been slightly over 4hr, so could be better, but far from bad.
I've played here a handful of times and the course is always in good shape, even when the greens have been aerated. The range is nice and irons only just forces you to practice the parts of your game you probably ignore. Never had any problems with staff and they have always been friendly and accommodating. It's a busy course, so if you aren't the first there or the last out your round will be long. All that being said I would recommend playing here. Book a tee time in advance and understand you are playing at one of the most popular public courses in the columbus area.
My favorite of all the City of Columbus courses. Not the most difficult, but it’s always in great shape, the location of town is nice and when you get done with 18 you have to go over to Johnny’s Tavern.
The course was soaked from recent rains but I was pleasantly surprised by the overall course conditions. I hadn't played there in a really long time and I would say overall it's way better than it used to be 10+ years ago. Greens were consistent and rolled beautifully. Fairways were thick and green. Pretty impressed for a City course.
Great golf course, it's a course that you can score on very easily. Most of the fairways are in great shape, some need attention. Overall great course
Visited the Schmidt's Sausage House location inside the clubhouse. I had a Bahama Mama platter. Excellent!
Course is in great shape and will challenge many golfers. You are rewarded for staying in the fairway and heavily penalized for going in the rough. Once there balls are difficult to find . Greens are nicely manicured and fair.
Well maintained course. Easy to navigate. Great staff. Totally worth it for the price!
Very Okay experience overall. I initially went to just go to the driving range and putting green but was thinking about playing in the next day or so maybe there. But after visiting I don’t think I will. Very rude staff and unfortunately the driving range was irons only. The driving range was fairly cheap but nothing about this place was great
It was nice. It's an easy course to learn on. Greens in great shape and pretty fast. The 9 holes we played were also in great shape but spring has the grass at its best. Nothing spectacular about the course other than convenient to the city and not flooded like airport.
Fantastic Course and Staff loved my experience today! Doesn’t matter what your experience is this course will not disappoint!!!
Great golf course and in very good shape for the time of year. Enjoyed the course layout and the course was well maintained. They dont have a ranger but will send one out if needed. The front nine took 2:50 to play and group in front had 4 holes open in front of them. Called the clubhouse after 12 and they sent someone out right away. Finished with just enough light left to see the final hole. Would return.
Staff are accommodating when we have 4-5 subsequent tee times. The beer and food prices are solid and very reasonable. We golf here at least 3-4 times a year and they've been great.
I want to give it 5 stars because the course is beautiful, and plays well for the most part. The only issue is there is no one controlling the pace of play, 5 1/2 hours to play 18 was ridiculous on a Sunday afternoon.
Great solid choice for a go-to public course. Affordable for a full 18 holes, and fun to play. When I played it was a bit hard and dry but that's mostly the late summer weather. Otherwise the course was in good shape and had a lot of fun!
Very well maintained golf course. The back 9 looked amazing had a great time. Only reason no 5* Is because of the staff. Listen people if you don’t want to be there working with the public then stay home. Their are enough negative things going on in this world and no need for your unkindly expressions and comments under your breath
Played on a weeknight, so as expected there was a lot of league play. Course was very busy, but the starter did a good job combining groups into three and foursomes. Pace of play was never an issue (I don't know the last time I played on a weeknight and could say that) Course was in very good shape despite 3 straight days of heavy rain, and the greens rolled true.
I really enjoyed the layout. There was good variety in the holes, no two play quite the same. The greens are large with moderate slope, and the greenside bunkers are big and soft. In general, the course is pretty wide open - you're not going to lose too many balls on poor shots. Finally, the price was fantastic.
Overall this is a solid course that offers good hole variety and lots of margin for error, all at a very good price.
This is my go to course to play in Columbus. Always in decent shape and is a good test for your accuracy. I've seen some other people post about rude staff but I've never had any problems, once when the laces on my golf shoes broke they even gave me some from an old pair! Very nice and helpful. Only downside for me is that the driving range is irons only. Long round times are impossible to avoid if you're playing on a weekend, especially a holiday one, but that's not exclusive to this course by any means. I've finished rounds in 3 1/2 hrs when I've walked out as a single for twilight or on a day off in the week. Great course, 100% recommend. If you're looking for a course to walk as opposed to ride a cart this is a great one as well, green to tee distances are never long and few issues as a walker.
Raymond is a nice course and is very well kept. It's quite open, decently long, and has a few tricky greens. We will play here again!
Good little local muni track. I feel like the back 9 is far superior, but overall it's in pretty good shape, especially for the amount of play it gets.
Good public course. Good variety of holes. Level walkable course. Amenities are limited during off season.
Not bad if you're looking for a casual round of gold. The carts are good and the course is well maintained. The driving range is very small (only 5 lanes) and it's irons only. They don't let you chip onto the practice greens either. It's $7 for a bucket of balls (~60)
Easy to find; quite a long course if one wishes to play the back tees. (However. There are several sets of tees.). A odd item; there are twin holes at each of the par 3 holes. (Only one green is open at a time).
Maybe the best course I’ve played in Ohio in a long time
Today was the best condition that I've seen this course in in a long time . Fairways and greens were perfect , traps were all raked and had plenty of sand , ruff was a little high but not bad !!!!
Very nice and challenging course, very busy!!
This is my 'go to' place, as it offers a great challenge while preserving the fun. The course is not very long, but there are holes that can be challenging if you don't place it correctly. Accuracy is a must. The prices are pretty good, as its a Columbus Municipal course, and the staff is usually helpful. Shockingly good food at the course, make sure you get a brat!
Of the Columbus municipal golf courses, this is one of the nicer ones. Greens are usually well kept, and the fees are comparable to other non-municipal courses in the area.
Although they don't allow drivers, they do have a nice irons range and practice putting green, which is one of the few locations on the west side to practice your swing without going out for a full round of golf.
My golfing buddy JD. P. Course was in near perfect conditions. Everyone was super friendly. The staff was awesome. The only thing is see they could improve is to add a starter. ( the guy that pairs people up). Also maybe stager some players to start of on the 10th hole so were not jammed up at hole 1.
Awesome time . Thanks guy.
I love the track but... so many people play it daily that it's difficult to get on. Of the ten thousand hackers that play on it weekly, only about three are courteous enough or have the know-how to fix a ball mark. It's not unusual to see cut-off jeans and t-shirts amongst the foursomes. Great staff and great track. Play it very early, right after lunch, or after 7 in the evening.
Played here 4/17/16 with a friend of mine. We were grouped with another twosome and teed off on time. We quickly realized we were in for a long day. It looks like they schedule tee times every 8 minutes for foursomes which is too short in my opinion. I understand they want to make more money, but there were 3 groups on every hole, all day long. At $45 I thought it was a little expensive for a municipal course. The greens were in desperate need of being cut and rolled and the indicators on the flag stick (front, middle, back) were often comically wrong. Between the crammed course, slow greens, and incorrect pin indicators, it made for a long and frustrating day. We finished in just over 5 hours. The layout is overall good, but challenging at 6500 yards from the blues (second longest tees). Lots of par 4's at or above 400 yards, long par 3's, and only 1 or 2 reachable par 5's.
One of the less expensive public courses in Columbus, but you wouldn’t be able to tell that from the quality of the course! They offer a military discount but not a veteran discount unfortunately.
Another thing about this course is they will pair you up if you’re by yourself no matter the time or day. On other public courses like the airport or champions you can go by yourself and if they’re not busy you can play quickly and be done with 18 in 2 hours. I went here on a Tuesday morning and they put me with another group of 2. Didn’t make much sense to me but I guess it’s not the biggest of deals, just can’t go as fast as I’d like.
I found the lady in the pro shop to be less than warming. As the first person you encounter and the person who gets my money, quite honestly I expect a smile. The starter was very friendly and offered conversation to every group. The pace of play while slow, and our group certainly contributed to that pace, was acceptable for a Saturday morning. The cost was reasonable. All in all, I enjoyed my experience and I will come back and recommend it to my friends. Just offer a smile when you take my money. Please and thank you......
Great layout and the course was in reasonable shape. Wish they would've let us know they aerated the greens prior to booking the tee time. Pace of play was good for mid-day Friday.
We went to raymond 2 weeks ago. Course very nice, but be careful our car was broken into. We asked about cameras and was told quality was bad. They didn't want to help us to find the crooks.
Not here to rank food or employees. Just golf. To that end, the course is definitely jam packed at peak times. But the course is a solid old school RTJ track. Fun course to play if you can get on ahead of the crowds.
The course is a pretty decent public course inside the 270 outerbelt. Just the proximity of everything around it should give it automatically 3 stars. The greens are what you'd expect from a public course although they can be pretty rough at times. Pace is alright but the ranger doesn't seem to encourage quick play. The driving range is irons only so that's another downside. The halfway house by the 18th green is awesome and serves Schmidt's. I'd still recommend people to play this course because it's cheaper than others and it's close to everything, just wish they'd do some updates.
The course was great! The only issue was the staff at the shop was not friendly at all...not sure if he was having a bad day at all but was not nice at all. The young lady that was driving around and checking on the golfers was so kind and friendly.
The layout isn't bad. The course conditions are usually in good shape. It's not rated higher because the pace of play as of late has been atrocious. Call and make sure they're on schedule and have no outting ahead of you.
Both courses were in excellent shape.
Great course for a Muni. Loved the greens, they were in great shape, challenging without being rediculous, and good speed. The pace of play was slow, but not unexpected for a Muni on the weekend. This was my first time here, and I will definitely be back.
Beautiful Location
We Had Our Class Reunion At The Reception House. The Food Was Awesome. The Mini Cream Puffs Where Delicious
The golf course itself is fine. Their patrons, not so much. The jackasses behind us hit over my group as we waited for the group in front of us. Then they tried to say we waved them through. We were sitting in the middle of the fairway the entire time. Much like life, enjoy the game and watch out for idiots.
Not a bad course at all. My favorite city course as well. Fairways and greens are usually is good shape, as is the rough. Not a challenging track, but definitely fun.
Nice, but short driving range. Only about 200 yards before you hit into one of the course's holes. Leave your woods in your car and work on your short game.
First time golfing at this course and my friend and I enjoyed it very much. Well kept city course, challenging enough and very friendly and hospitable service. Will definitely return.
Most over booked course I have ever been at. Always uppidty about tee times but never have a starter or enforce pace of play. Expect each round of 18 to take 5 hours due lack of organization. Bad for the game of golf.
Course is in great shape; pace was adequate; they're clearing alot of brush; it seems to help the natural landscape burst at springtime⛳🏌🏻♀️ …
Beautiful place, my son had his wedding there they did a wonderful job. Couldn't ask for a better day or a more beautiful place. Everyone was thoughtful and treated the bride the way a bride should be treated on her day.
More of challenging course for an amateur golfer this course has 18 holes that are in prestige pristine condition. The driving range does not allow woods.
Course is in great shape ... but REALLY soggy from yesterday's downpours. Enjoyed nine holes, but just one par! A great Sunday afternoon in the sun.
RTJ design course fairways and greens in great condition
My husband and son golf here occassionally and find it challenging for their level of play. It's a beautiful course and not cost prohibitive.
I would say this course is good enough in all respects except the driving range. The driving range is subpar due to its short length. I wouldn't come here to practice.
This was my first time at this course. We had a great time. The course was in really good shape for this time of year. Will definitely try and come back.
It is a good value for the money. It has some challenging holes. They lost a lot of ash trees over the year which really opened up some holes.
We had lunch at Schmidt's & sat & ate at the picnic tables. It was such a nice relaxing time. I was surprised at how quiet it was. Food was delicious!
Amazing location for workplace meetings. Been here twice for work functions. The food is amazing and the staff is so professional and kind. Very clean facilities and spacious rooms.
Could be run better course wise. Noodles in the cups are too thick. Put cannot go on the holes!
Good public course. Dry weather has taken its toll, but good layout. Affordable.
Another municipal course in Columbus. Friendly service and pretty easy to get out on a weekday afternoon, but the course is overplayed and the greens are pockmarked with unrepaired ball marks.
fantastic! lovely course, nice grass handling.
it looks easy playing, but not that much
My grandson and I played his first round at Raymond last week. It was a great experience and they offer Schmidt's at the turn!!
Good public course, in nice condition overall. Slightly overpriced for what it is but they're just matching the Columbus Public going rate.
Can't argue with a Bahama Mama at the turn and a cream puff at the 19th hole! Oh yeah, the course is nice, too...😊 …
We felt rushed even though we were only two. We had to use separate carts so the social part of the game wasn't there.
Nice staff and it's a well kept, challenging course. Plus we had a beautiful day.
One of my favorite courses! Very friendly. Course is well taken care of! Highly recommend!
Great course, decently maintained for a Columbus Municipal Course that gets a TON of play, and the staff is very kind.
Course is in good shape for the money.
Not a bad layout, pretty good condition for a city course, but very rude employees. They act like they are a 5 star country club.
Great experience. Enjoyed the course though the traps were a beast. Staff was kind.
I do agree the lady in the pro shop should at least smile but the course is beautiful
This place holds a very special place in my heart based solely on name. My special needs tuxedo cat was named Raymond and every time I drive by her, he feels a bit closer.
Great place to play a round of golf. Grounds are in awesome shape
Course was in the best shape I've ever seen it. Fun day on the links with my best friend.
Great beginner course and the staff is always helpful!
Decent course, sometimes a bit untended but a good cheap round of golf
Decent shape. Cut the greens tighter! Get a ranger to move play along. TY
Nice course with great food from Schmidt's Sausage restaurant. Friendly people
This course was a bit beat up but I thought the greens rolled really well.
Nice venue for a wedding. Beautiful grounds. Bar closed early though, ugh.
Course is in excellent condition.
Price is on the high side.
Practice area irons only no chipping facilities
Got 30 minutes of good putting practice. I had the green to myself
Nice
We got out before the league started, enjoyed our round! Going back soon.
Course was ok, front desk staff was very rude and unhelpful.
course in good shape - need some trees to grow back, but doing well.
The course was in great shape. Great job Columbus!
Great course and friendly, helpful staff.
Good muni. tees for everyone. fun place to walk and carry. reasonably priced
Friendly staff! Good place to work on your game, not a lot of trees.
Great value course for your money. Highly recommend!
If you are average like me and love sand then this is your place.
Fun course but as with ALL Columbus city courses, Employees are complete jerks.
Great place to golf. Occasionally plays slow
3 dolla beers n 20 for 18 holes
Great laying out for a city Run course, good job city of Columbus
Very nice, open, family friendly course and environment.
Pretty nice public course for the city of cbus.
Close to home. Very well maintained for a public course.
Course in good shape. Challenging back 9.
Well maintained. Lots of long par 4s.
Nice golf course.
Schmidts runs the catering. Can't beat a Bahama Mama.
Fairways, tees and greens in good shape for January
Good golf course, well groomed.
Went to the driving range. Easy in and out.
Great golf course for the price.
Fast greens. Course is well groomed
Stopped in for Schmidt's. Was disappointed that it was just an outdoor foodstand
Nice people. Nice course. Cold 🍺 …
