Reviews of Champions Golf Course
Just a rider and an amateur photographer!! My husband and his foursome enjoyed a beautiful day here on 09/17/22. The course is beautiful, well taken care of, and the staff was friendly. Nice rolling hills and elevation changes. The cart paths are in nice shape and fairly shaded. Perfect shaped trees everywhere. Pleasant other players in any passing situation.
Steve Ricker and the Adaptive Sports program along with Golf Not Guns/Leadership Through Golf are making a difference in the community.
Nice golf course with some good updates to the clubhouse. Course had tons of deer running through it.
One of the best (if not the best) public courses in Columbus. Every hole is unique & challenging. The course is always well maintained with a nice clubhouse.
A challenging golf course for a beginner, like myself. Very technical and the greens are smaller than I typically play. Overall very fun if you want to work on your short game.
Great course. Well maintained and easy to navigate. Definitely lived up to the hype. I'll be back!!!! The staff are also amazing.
I love the course. It seems to be a few dollars more than other Columbus public courses. The food staff is nice.
Driven by here for YEARS and have never played; my mistake!!! Outstanding course, and if you set yourself right, scoring is very possible. Weird thing though, the website says it closes at 4p, odd since we're IN golf season!!! Otherwise, I really like this course!!!
The course layout is beautiful! It’s a challenging course due to the distance, topography, water and sand. The greens, fairways and tees are very well maintained. Friendly & helpful staff. Price very reasonable.
Brand new banquet facility. Very spacious, great lighting, nice outdoor views. Large patio area good for pictures. Bathroomd well maintained. Staff always on duty. Ample parking. Only potential drawback could be that outside catering is not allowed; the caterer contracted through the facility must be used.
Outstanding! I met these one kids I think they’re group name was golf and leadership the were so helpful! 10/10
The course was in excellent shape and a good challenge. Hope to play again soon. The picture is the fifth hole
Incredible layout in only fair condition! Value at $40 green fee!
Great course, interesting layout, and a good challenge. It was in pretty good repair, but still some bald spots on some greens. But you can't beat the price for 18 holes, so I'll definitely be back!
Course was in fantastic shape and the greens were fast, but the ball would stick on approach. There were a couple of questionable tee boxes, but can easily be overlooked with the great condition of the fairways and greens.
Overall it was a tight course and not very forgiving.
It would be 5-Stars if the price wasn't the same as somewhere like Bent Tree, and we were told there was a cart girl driving around with drinks and snacks, but that was a lie. The clubhouse snack spot didn't even open until 10:30AM.
We played Sunday morning and there were very few people on the course. The facilities are shiney and new and the course was in great shape. We had a perfect golf session.
Course is country club-esque. In amazing condition, very green. No boring holes! Appreciate the layout, it keeps your attention. Different than most Central Ohio courses. Not farm-y. The new clubhouse is very nice as well, just opened this past week.
Guys in the pro shop we're super helpful when I lost a club on the course
Not a bad course. Lay out is good, a few parallel fairways and can get crowded. Three stars due to the fact that it was $60 for a 12:12 Saturday tee time. Steep for a city course, wouldn't pay that again. Not bad though.
I guess you just can’t please everyone. Played in 3.5 hours on Sunday morning, staff was fine. Conditions of the course were fine - it’s a well used public course ! The few rough areas on the course I attribute to other golfers ! I fixed a million pitch marks, raked a few extra foot prints in the sand, and replaced some divots that others must have forgot to do ! If everyone checking in was given a pitch mark tool, and taught how to use it, greens would be better. Good value, and we had fun, and I’d go back.
Love Champions! Challenging course that is well taken care of. Can be a little swampy as it is low lying, but gorgeous course. Every time I’ve golfed Champions, I’ve seen deer on the fairways. Even seen wild turkeys.
Played today for the first time in three years. Absolutely plushhhhhh. Just reopened a few weeks ago and it is in premiere shape. They're not letting people take carts on the fairways which adds to the excellent condition. Seriously, best public course fairways in central Ohio. Greens are quick, yet receptive. Was a tough test as always and can't wait to see the new clubhouse facility when it opens in a few weeks.
Champions is a great public course, with a convenient location close to Easton and a fantastic new clubhouse facility. Well kept and moderately challenging it has some fun elevation changes and forgiving fairways leading to narrow greens.
It's a great course but the staff needs to be better. They are rude and the ranger does not seem to mind slow play, fivesomes, singles that some how hold up a foursome... feels like there are a lot of players learning the game that play here, who could benefit from lessons at a range rather than causing a 6 hour round for 18 holes. Police your course!
The course was in excellent condition. The staff were all very nice. It'd be nice if other people fixed there divots on the greens, but you'll have that. The only thing was, it wasn't even 90 degrees. You could drive in the rough, but had to stay off the fairways.
I played this course with some friends that were back in town visiting. Although we are all originally from Columbus, none of us had ever played this course as Champions (or the previous Winding Hollow). Considering it is a Ohio state park course we didn't have the highest expectations prior to our round. Our drive up to the clubhouse didn't exactly erase those fears as it shared a closer resemblance to a pawn shop than pro shop (seems to be a new one under construction). However, you go to the course to golf and the course provided just that. You can tell that it used to be private based on the sprawling layout and sight lines. The course was a little damp to no fault of its own and has extremely tough tee shots with little margin for error. If you are looking for a challenging course at a moderately fair price you should definitely play here. While my round was discounted through GolfNow, i would have absolutely no issue paying sticker price and will definitely be playing this course again. I would give it 4.5 stars if possible (and did not seem to have the same poor experience with staff others reported)/
This is a great course. Well maintained year round, but for it being a muni course and the price you pay, it better be maintained. If you're not playing from the tips, driver isn't all that helpful on this course if you're a long hitter. I really enjoy this course, but think it's priced about $10-15 too high, just my 2 cents.
The new club house is a great upgrade and the course is in immaculate condition. They have a good job over the past five years remaking the fairways and greens.
Course was in great shape. Does not get 5 stars because it was 90 degrees or above; no drinking water on course. No beverage cart and nothing warning you of that fact.
Formerly Winding Hollow Country Club, this Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed golf course is the crown jewel in the City of Columbus golf course lineup. From the tips, it is just over 6500 yards, but you will earn every par or birdie you get. Very hilly, tight, and challenging but fair from the appropriate tees. You will use every club in your bag. I highly recommend it. It is an excellent public course.
Good public golf course, quite difficult even from the white tees. The starters take their job a little too seriously since it's a public course and the clubhouse is basically a shack.
A bit on the pricey side too since it used to be a Country Club, but overall worth it.
Really challenging course that I ALWAYS shoot a terrible score at. So I'm probably biased when I say it is overpriced and a bit overrated. The greens are beautifully designed but always seem to be really beat up when I play there. Definitely a shot makers course and not for the typical weekend hacker.
Most challenging of the City of Columbus public courses. Some of the holes feature relatively narrow fairways and challenging shapes and elevation changes. New club house coming in the next year or two should really add to the existing draw this course has.
Fun layout with many doglegs and a lot of elevation change for Central Ohio. Course was in great shape, will definitely be back.
It's a par 70 but it's challenging with its fairway bunkers and tight layout. Most holes have a tricky tee shot whether its OB on one side or uneven landing zones. Would reccomend for a decent challenge.
I was a caddy when this course was Winding Hollow Country Club so I was familiar with its layout and excited about getting to play here. Very nice course with some challenges. I've always enjoyed playing here and will again.
I don't understand others' ratings. If Hillcrest-Johnstown is 4star, this place is a 7star. In all seriousness, it's a well designed formerly private course now run with a municipal budget. Are the greens perfect? Heck no. But it's a good course if you can get on at off-peak hours.
Course was in excellent shape! Could stand to have someone blow off the green's from tree debris
The layout here is a real diamond in the rough. Challenging and interesting at a great price. Course is in good shape too for what I'd imagine would be a low Muni budget. Still, I'd recommend playing here in the more 'off hours' early in the morning or on a weekday-- I've run into a few rude players when things were busy before, but that's no fault of the staff.
Tldr; The best Muni in Columbus, hands down, at a great price.
Expensive for a public course, but also above average conditions for a public course. If it wasn’t for the unprofessional and non-attentive gentleman at the pro-shop working the counter the evening of 5/7/2019, I would’ve rated 4 x stars.
Carts are slow af, but the course is very fun.
Recently played the course & it was in great shape as it usually is. Greens were fast & true. Always amazes me that this course w/rolling terrain, valleys, elevated tees & greens are inside the Cbus outerbelt. Green fees are reasonable.
The golf course was in great shape and it was a beautiful day. Also the new clubhouse and all the new work they have done around there is top notch!
Great course for a back drop, some rough green areas, and onky reasons for not a 5 star are bathrooms are not the best in club house and the employees constantly ask what is in cooler. You would imagine they would eventually recognize who you were.
Very nice course but pricey and expensive. Plus they closed down the food and drink bar in the middle of the day so you couldn’t get anything and it was only 4:30.
The course was in great shape. The new clubhouse is open and looks great. Only problem no beer yet for after road drink.
City course is good shape, interesting layout, plays longer than listed. Not a fan of par 70, needs two more par fives, it's par 4s are unrelenting.
Beautiful course with many challenging holes. Greens roll true, but not too fast. Highly recommended.
The course is beautiful and very challenging.
It's hard to believe that this hilly course, though not all holes, lies in the middle of Columbus. Give it a try.
Fairways in great shape. Greens actually have weeds growing abundantly. If they had good greens would be worth $35 per round with cart
Had a weekend wedding here at their hall and it was affordable and very precise, I would recommend the use of this facility for small scale meetings and events
Little bit on the pricey side of public courses. $108 for 2 players and a cart for 18 holes. Great course though.
New modern clubhouse. Brings needed energy to the property. Dave adds enthusiasm as the head pro.
Great course. Challenging layout and in pretty good condition for a public track. Round was slow but it that's what you get on a public track on a Saturday.
Edit - They were finally accommodating. Beware though, a round will take some time here. Course is nice and challenging though.
By far my favorite public track in Columbus for it's value. It's well maintained and a great walk through wooded areas. It's challenging, which keeps me coming back.
Friendly staff, great beer selection. Great pace of play!
Greens were super slow. A shell of what this beauty used to be. Driving range is not in use and some of the greens were in really bad shape, 10 green was almost not even playable.
Interesting municipal golf course. Some tough holes. The course is in good shape with tough greens. Hard to read.
Central location is nice. Fairways are decent, greens are decent but not great. Challenging and unique holes with some good scenery. A bit overpriced for the quality.
One of the best layouts in Columbus. The course was in good shape for a city run muni. I always enjoy playing here.
Great venue for 100 to 200 persons. Outdoors Wedding site being developed soon.
Fran, the pro, is extremely friendly and runs a welcoming atmosphere for golfers. Found out new club house being built for 2019 season.
Low areas seem to have held water for years... otherwise, love this course to death! Only left three clubs in the bag, and one of those I should have used.
Golf course was really nice but come on over 90 degrees nothing to purchase but room temperature water not good
Great condition and friendly staff.
Its a great lay out. staff was very friendly and the course was in great shape. A very enjoyable outing.
Solid public course and fairly challenging. Fairways weren't in the best shape and green speeds were variable.
First time there.. well kept fairways greens were speedy... nice clubhouse
Pretty decent course, just keep an eye out when you're away from the clubhouse. Not the best location but problems are rare.
Staff is truly the Champs of Champions. It is definitely to be in top 10 public courses in Ohio.
Go Champs of Champions staff makes all the difference.
Fantastic shape. T boxes are not as nice but the greens are rolling! Definitely a challenge.
Nice course. 18 holes . Great for sledding in winter past the 9th hole
pleasantly surprised with beauty and test of golf designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.. Fairly priced for quality course.. Would play again
Course is difficult but fair. Narrow with trees. Must control tee,box to score. 5 stars
Nice track, reasonable green fees, now with a large clubhouse opening Spring 2020 !
Solid course. Relaxed layout with challenging holes. Great for enjoying your short game
What a course and now the clubhouse matches the great place. Challenging and you know its for shot makers.
The new clubhouse and Cafe are really nice 👌 …
Great course, totally recommend playing. 3 stars for very rude staff.
Love this course. The head pro is great, we did an outing and she handled everything perfectly.
Nice public golf course. Nothing special but a nice course for the price.
Great muni and great value. Highly recommended. Keep it straight or bring alot of balls.
Enjoyed the course. We'll kept and fast green. Loved it.
Ok course in good shape 👍 little overprice for winter rates. …
I love the golf course because they give me and my friends golf balls
Great course, friendly staff, will be back to play again.
Clean event friendly
Nice place to play soccer and to exercise there is a golf course and a trail
Although very wet, course was in good shape. Love the layout.
Beautiful course right in the middle of town. Fran, the pro, is a great teacher
New clubhouse is great. Much nicer than old one

I like the course, but the greens are pretty beat up by the end of the day
