Reviews of Airport Golf Course
It’s a good value course. Forgiving fairways for high and mid handicapper. Greens are a little slow but consistent. Well maintained. Blue and black tees add a little more challenge for more skilled players. Overall I think you get a little more than you are paying for. Planes never boring. Recommend late afternoon round to finish just after sunset. Volunteers are friendly.
We teed off on a Saturday evening. Course was in great shape. We only played the front nine. It was an open course, nothing very difficult. There were trees around the fairways, and sand around the greens. Fairways and greens were in good shape. I'd love to stop back and play 18.
Rude customer service. The lady had nothing but attitude.
Did not have the option to play 9 holes, had to play 18.
Gold course is nice and loved watching airplanes land and take off.
Some might think that this is a little high of a rating for the airport golf course. However, I haven't golfed in almost 10 years and they had redone the course and it was beautiful the people were friendly it was reasonably priced I enjoyed myself
$34 for 18 holes and a cart. It’s a pretty straightforward course. It can get pretty busy though. I went solo and played through 2 groups of 4, then got stuck behind some duos who played the back 9. This was in a Thursday afternoon.
Love the greens here. For as much traffic as they get they usually are in really good condition. Great course to grip and rip your driver on. Most holes are fairly straight with no doglegs and not a lot of hazards to worry about.
Really slow pace of play most of the time is all that keeps me from playing here more often.
Course underwent a major renovation several years ago, completed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan. Much of the original course has been re-routed and now plays to a par of 72. (formerly par 70). The result is a very well balanced layout with each nine having a reachable short par 5 early, followed by a tough, 3 shot hole later. Nice mix of forgiving/challenging holes and very walkable! Greens staff has done an amazing job with the new greens, they are fast and well maintained! Course gets very busy at times, so be prepared for a bit slower round.
The course is really nice. I enjoyed the layout. However, the greens were very bumpy. I guess that's expected with how packed the course was on a Friday afternoon.
Best public course in Columbus. Can't find a better maintained and designed course for $35 a round. Everything else is either only 9 holes or run down. Anyone who complains about the course doesn't love the game. If you're annoyed by the planes take one to a private course.
Always a great place for a laid back round of golf. The course is always in great shape. Good job Columbus golf courses!
Literally right next to Columbus International, this course has some great anti-distraction training built in. Planes of all size fly a couple hundred feet over head constantly and it’s really cool to see!
The course is tricky, more so than it seems at first. It’s no country club but for a public course that is under $40 to ride for 18 holes (weekday), it’s a pretty great course
Great place to golf for the price, if you can handle the distractions. I'm not sure I've played a better maintained course for a more reasonable price in Columbus. The rough is deep, thick, and difficult. Greens have compound slopes to account for. It's not the most difficult course, but it can be a challenge to someone like me who is, at best, mediocre. The noise can be somewhat overwhelming, especially in a game where just speaking while someone tees off is frowned upon. If speaking is inconsiderate, what are freeway traffic, landing airplanes, and train horns? All that being said, when then many many MANY sources of distracting noise quiet down, this is a very decent course that can be played for a good price.
Great course that is taken care of pretty nice for a public course. Airplanes flying over is neat too.
The course was in really good shape tonight! As is typical, it was pretty busy - 9 holes took a little over 2 hrs with plenty of waiting on the groups ahead. But on a nice night like tonight, a slower pace was enjoyable!
The bar/food closed at 6, so stock up before you tee off.
Great well-maintained municipal course. Good for beginners. Wide and straight fairways. Good thing that I didn't have to worry about losing balls which I usually do a lot. Fast pace, played 18 holes in 3.5 hours. Highly recommend.
It was a nice day to play a round of golf and the course welcomed the competition. The rough was rough but the greens are true and rolled well. Enjoyed the course and the hospitality by the starter. ⛳
I golf here more than anywhere else and they keep it in really nice shape. It is actually hard to believe this is a city course. I also love that they don't olstack the tee times like other places, which means there is usually a nice pace of play without feeling slow or rushed. It has pretty forgiving fairways and is perfect for an amateur golfing like me.
Redesigned by Mike Hurdzan, this course was softened to not interfere with the Columbus Airport landing pattern. A good place for beginners and new golfers. You can walk this course easily. It barely stretches over 6300 yards, and has a slope of 113 from the tips, 105 from the whites. Lots of Canadian geese, and geese droppings.
It's in pretty good shape for this early. Sand was extremely nice considering all the rain. Would have got five stars but 18 green was under repair. Suggestion ...We marked our distance from the pin on our approach shots and took it to the Practice green to finish.
This course is a nice short enjoyable one to play. The greens and fairways are always in decent shape. The reason for only three stars is that it can be quite crowded and because of the attitude of the course pro. In any customer facing position I feel as if a friendly attitude and professional demeanor is a must to keep people returning. the qualities I have mentioned however seem to be lacking in my recent few experiences at this facility. Although I thoroughly enjoy this course i feel as if my money would be better appreciated else where.
Great course. Pretty long and well maintained. Definitely at the top-echelon of best golf courses I've been too. Highly recommended and the price is pretty reasonable. A win-win!
Course was in excellent condition.Staff was very nice and helpful.
Surprisingly in very good shape for the lack of rain, good price too at $41 for 18 and a cart. Masks required in the Proshop and social distancing markers as well. Flo is a friendly starter and didn't mind if we took 2 off the first. Definitely need to come here more often.
A well kept golf course that while it is fun to play there is nothing in particular that sticks out about it. I enjoy playing there but you should take into consideration how sensitive to noise you are. The airport is right across the street and it is likely that you will have 10 Southwest planes taking off or landing pretty close to where you’ll be playing.
Staff was friendly. Pace of play was good. Course itself not worth what they charge. Nice short holes, easy scoring but the greens are like putting on the moon and fairways full of crabgrass. Should be $25 for 18 and a cart not $33.
This is my first golf course full game. Starts par 5 relatively no real rough. I was in a 4 some couple guys were good tearing this course up. I started off little slow couple holes later nerves settled down then I began to have fun. Cart path and hole placement was very easy to see.
We played off white tees which were placed well. The par 3s on back 9 were fun. I came close within 5 feet of the flag.Only downfall to the course is the plane noise. Course was clean trees werent all over. Not a cheap course but its fair price. Bathroom was dirty somewhat, but food was decent.
***UPDATE*** The new layout is outstanding. It needs to age, but it feels like the type of layout it should've had since day 1. I love that it's a par 72 now. Hole 10 is finally a par 5. I miss the water at the finishing holes, but that's about it. This is definitely a bombers course, but only for a few years while the trees grow. There are almost all new greens, so the grass needs to age. There are plenty of bare spots as of now, but surely that will not be an issue in the future. There are no dog-legs, but a few benders. Other than those, this course is straight ahead. The only downfall is their pricing. This is not a $38 course on the weekend, nor a $31 course during the week. At best, this is a $27 course on the weekend, and $21 during the week. Hopefully we'll see a price drop if they want to reap the rewards of their hard work. It's fine now as all the locals want to see the new changes. For that price, I expect bent grass tee to green, and yardage stakes marking 100, 150 and 200 in the fairways.
You get what you pay for, and this course exudes that. The fairways are usually very hairy. No clean lies anywhere since they use blue grass instead of bent grass for everything but the greens. Very little money has gone into improving the facilities...historically. Since the actual airport moved its runways, some remodeling of the course is nearly finished and ready for opening this year. I can't wait to play the new layout, and hopefully see some upgrades in other places as well.
This is a fun muni course. They have tees for all abilities. The greens were a little chewed up from players not repairing their pitch marks but overall a fun time. Great staff and volunteers run the course.
Living downtown it's really convenient. On a Sunday afternoon it's easy to get from the couch, play 18 and back again in under 5 hours. Pretty short track overall, but has some interesting enough holes. I find it superior to Raymond Memorial, also a city course that's about the same distance and price.
Work in progress, spoke with Mike Messer in Admin role. He indicated kayakers who float alongside the Golf Course provide a benefit to the course overall. He further suggested locations in Gahanna where additional bag stations could be placed as paddlers float through different jurisdictions and where disposal of their own or any floating garbage could occur.
If you appreciate clean water and waterways that do not smell, do not golf here. I work with local kayakers that clean up area rivers and streams. A manager here was both unappreciative and indignant about the amount of garbage in Big Walnut Creek. His words were that the creek goes alongside the golf course and refused to appreciate what others do so that golfers don’t have a horrible smell while using the course.
One of the good golf court … so nice
I enjoy playing this course. It is not that difficult and it has some nice greens. The course is totally different after the renovation they did a few years ago. It's also cool to see the planes flying over head.
Very nice city course. Greens and fairways are maintained much better than expected. Good price for 18 holes with cart. Very friendly staff. Will definitely return.
Open Course... not too long (3 or 4 eagle ops), not too short. . . greena are a good size, plenty of space to land the ball... couldn't keep the ball on the green on some holes, just too fast, but that isn't the norm... Will play again and again
Played 9 holes with a friend. Course is in very good condition.
Not a challenging course by any means, however this is probably the second nicest Columbus public course (next to Raymond Memorial). The front 9 is wide open and flat but the back 9 introduces some elevation and a few water hazards. With 18 holes and a cart coming in at $36 it's tough to beat.
Course was in good shape but tee times were too close together so the pace was excruciating. Nearly 5 hours to complete a round but pace has always been an issue here.
Well maintained city course along Big Walnut Creek. Senior rate. A bit crowded -waiting at each hole.
Pace can be very slow just like most public courses and also depends on the time of the day one visits. The course is in decent shape at this time on the season or end of season.
The course is slowly getting back into shape after the reconfiguration of holes a few years back. A bit short, but having aircraft taking off and landing right over your head can be quite thrilling!
Airport is a great track it's a little short but other than that it's well kept and great to play. The twilight special is a great deal! I play out of OSU golf club but live 5 min away from airport. So I frequent airport gc often it's a great place to work on your game
Always forget about this course. Not the most challenging but definitely a good time. Played from the blues to give it a little more distance. Friendly staff.
Decent layout. Course is noisy due to planes and I270 traffic so it is hard to have a conversation. Greens are very firm so it is tough to hold approach shots.
Fantastic quite course. Quite as in not overly crowded. The low flying planes are fun to look at but pay attention if you are easily distracted in your back swing.
First time there...not bad for a city course. The planes literally flying over while you shoot are a bit distracting, but the price for 18 and a cart isn't. Take the good with the bad I guess.
Excellent course! Beautiful greens. Very well kept and reasonably priced.
The course is in good condition w/ the greens looking terrific. A lot of new trees have been planted. Should be even better in a few years.
Well maintained golf course that's also close to home for us. The staff are always pleasant and welcoming.
Cheap for 18 holes... greens could be a little better maintained but I have seen worst... great value for the price
Decent course to play when you want to gain confidence. Not sure if it is worth $22.50 to ride 9 holes on a weekday.
Nice golf course now that its finished. But the guy in the proshop is always a huge as*hole when we come in. And dont bother calling I have to call multiple times and currently on hold over 10 minutes.
Course is in decent condition. Very windy today. Leagues started today. Pretty crowded.
Not a bad course. Part of it floods during the rainy season. And sometimes the groundskeepers do not mow around the airport approach lights, which brings the place down.
You can hit some pretty wild balls here and still oar a hole.
Course was well maintained but it is always so busy and slow and they've never known what a ranger is!
Small, easy course, but it's a lot of fun. Twilight golf is a really good value.
Nice easy course. Only played the front nine. Definitely different with planes landing right over top of you!
Nice forgiving course!
Quick in and out, adequate parking and great price for 18 holes & cart. We enjoy playing here
Fairways were ok shape and greens were in good shape but really slow. Not worth the money to me.
Loud and busy, course is upkept well, old clubhouse, it's ok but there are better and more scenic options
Nice course, very unique. There is something special about an airplane flying over your head while playing golf.
Great course, well maintained and reasonable prices. Jets fly really close over head which is pretty cool
I found the course hot as hell. Houston hot. Africa hot. Was sweating like Moses Malone. It is what it is. Forgiving, short, but enjoyable.
Been years, will play again!
Fantastic round of golf course was great sure would like to get pencils at the clubhouse
Great day for golf..course in decent winter shape...hope to get there again this month
Haven't been there in years and was really pleased with it. Greens were in great shape.
People are very nice, course in great shape, and get to wave at people on airplanes. Price was the best around.
Course was in good shape except for being wet.
Conditions on the course were not great today. It was cart path only and large sections of course were reseeded.
Really nice and well maintained course and facilities. Price could have been a bit better.
Easy course to walk, well maintained and fun to play
It was great. It's well maintained for a public course.
Terrific course. Nicely run. It's a great place!
The course is nice the greens are slow my aunt chilling it's not just
Got out before an outing played in 3:15 hrs. Conditions really good. Great time.
Always a great experience playing @ the golf course 👌🏾 …
Pretty good shape for a much used public golf course.
Good course, with views of incoming planes you can't get anywhere else in the city.
Greens are not well kept. The fairway grass is longer than the "rough"
Great people, pace of play is fast, course in great shape for time of year
Great employees well kept course, tough but but not overwhelming.
Came down from northwest Ohio. Very nice course.
Great course and great views when the planes fly over!
Was very beginner friendly. Really enjoyed it!
A few brown spots from flooding but a good course overall.
My home course gonna give it 5 stars not matter what
Decent course. Decent price. Watch out for landing aircraft though.
Great day, course not bad price reasonable
It is in really good condition and priced very reasonabliy
Decent course and is pretty open on the front.
Great people 1st time play here had great time
One of the best groom public courses around.
I know it's a municipal course, but it's one my favorites.
Great place, fast play, easy to get around
Greens need a touching up but good course
