Reviews of Village Links of Glen Ellyn
Highly recommend! Course was in great shape and challenging! A lot of fairway bunkers to land in. Golf carts were nice with a solid screen with flyover and other cool features. Greens were in good shape, fast, and tough pin placements. definitely exceeded my expectations!
I havent played here since early 90s when i moved out of the area. Can't say enough good things about this golf course. Great value compared to many other courses in the area. Staff was extremely friendly and courteous. The track itself was impeccable. Fast and true greens, well maintained tees and fairways. An all around excellent course. Very customer focused! Thanks for a great round.
Great course's and always run into people I enjoy playing with. Also a nice 9 hole course to take my grandchildren to. Easy pace for the family to play and relax after on the patio.
AS close to a country club course as you will find in public domain. Clubhouse, Pro Shop and Reserve 22 grounds are well kept with exceptional planters and vegetation to greeting you at entry. Good driving range and chipping area to prep for the days round. Reasonable 9 hole course and exceptional 18 hole course. All at a price that will not break the bank. I think you will enjoy the experience.
Put high on your list! Excellent facilities, welcoming staff, beautiful course. Its only 4 stars due to slow play. I'll go back again soon and hopefully they will have better marshalling.
Update 3/16/22
They added different colored posts along the left side of the driving range this year. By far the best driving range in Chicagoland area especially given the 15 bucket deal. Hopefully thia year I can play the course and review as well. From the views it looks spectacular.
2021:
Driving range is great with grass tees and and amazing 15 bucket deal. I'd give 4.5 stars if I could though because one thing that's severely lacking is a flag between the black and white flag on the left side of the range. Makes half the driving range less usable.
Great golf course. Very well maintained. Greens smooth, but very fast, with hardly any straight putts..
Course surprisingly in fair condition as it exits drawn out winter. Greens in good shape. Pace of play good. Clubhouse and bar as great as ever.
7/23 update. Played multiple times since early season rounds. Even with a lot of play the course continues to hold up well and is great shape. Enjoying the season at VL Glen Ellyn. Highly recommend.
Both courses at Village Links are kept in pristine condition. The practice facility is equal to any private club. The prices are reasonable and even better with a VIP card that pays for itself after a few rounds. All staff are friendly and accommodating. There is an excellent restaurant with full menu, bar & table service to enjoy afterwards.
Great course. Overall nice conditions, quick greens. Challenging couple holes. Twilight should be an hour earlier. We got congested on a couple holes but nothing terribly bad. Fun experience we will be back!
Rough is too thick due to the water and rain we've been having, lost 6 balls on first 2 holes, rest of the round was OK. greens are fast and fair with some tricky pin placements. The layout is challenging and the course plays long from the tips. Good test of golf.
My Group has been playing the 9 hole course here for years.
The staff is friendly Ron is great. Course is always challenging. sometimes taking too much time for the round. can only say to keep on the pace of play.
Love the course
Been playing here since I was a kid. It can play very tough and can suit anyone's game. Compared to many other area tracks, I consider the Village Links a great value and the service is always first class for municipal golf. One mention- I wish they would keep greens rolling faster but there is a problem with people not fixing ball marks etc.! People- fix your ball marks....and don't litter! :)
Great course, staff and facility.
Both the 18 and 9 hole courses are very challenging and fair. Fairways and greens are in great shape. The practice areas are excellent.
The Reserve 22 restaurant is fabulous.
Some of the toughest greens I ever played. True rolls but the pin placements were a challenging. The whole course is in fantastic shape. Kudos to the greens keeper and staff.
As always, clubhouse personnel friendly, helpful and quick. Course was in great condition, and Cheryl took care of all our food and beverage needs! Another great time. Thanks!
This review for the 9 hole course. Course generally
In good condition with exception of rough being very thick an and all to often very high. Very difficult to find balls which aren’t in the fairway. Pin placements tend to be in difficult locations sometimes unfair. Over the last few years they’re
letting the natural grasses take over and not mowing area’s where in the past have been mowed. Needless to say you can’t play from there. This definitely slows up play but cuts down on maintenance for the course, (grass cutting). The 9 hole course is a challenging layout with long par 3’s and we’ll bunkered greens. It definitely test the average golfers skills.
This course is definitely one of the best maintained and definitely worth the money! If you haven't played this one, you are missing out. Beautiful amenities also, outdoor patio and the food was amazing.
Beautiful course and well maintained. The entryway and grounds surrounding the course were also very pretty. Friendly staff. Great patio restaurant too.
Great practice facility. Very good restaurant. The two courses 9 and 18 are really well designed. They make every effort possible to keep pace of play reasonable on peak times.
One of the best public courses in the area. Greens are consistently in good shape. They are large with challenging positions and roll true. There are good opportunities to score if your drives are positioned well.
The staff does a great job of making you feel welcome while ensuring players stay in pace. You have to visit the outside patio. It’s a great place to enjoy food and a beer after a round, or just stop by when in the area.
Great course - always well maintained. Friendly helpful staff. New carts. Great place to watch sports and grab a meal or drinks after a round while sitting outside by the fire
Course is ok but greens are way too tricked up and sloped to be fair/fun. Pin placements yesterday were ridiculous, one was 4 feet off the collar on a par 3. Rough was very inconsistently cut, extremely long in some places and thin and patchy in others.
Marketed and priced as a premium golf course but left much to be desired from the beat up greens and inconsistent rough.
This facility is a hidden gem of the Chicago suburbs. The nine hole course gets a lot of play but is excellently maintained as well as a challenge for golfers of all levels due to the diversity of tees.
Great for golf family outings! The Driving Range is well kept and so are the Greens! Also great service from Susan at the front desk!
Played the 9 hole course on 7/28. Course was in excellent shape. Staff super friendly and helpful, as always.
I played the 18 course in early June, 2022 and was somewhat surprised/ disappointed at the sad condition of the tee boxes and greens. It seems that there wasn’t any late Fall or early Spring maintenance (seeding and repair of worn areas). I felt like it was late fall conditions verses Spring conditions. I expected better.
Course is beautiful! Lots of water and sand; even though we are high handicaps, we didn’t feel too frustrated. I had lunch at the restaurant, chicken wrap was delicious. Staff were all friendly, welcoming and helpful. I would definitely play this course again.
Very nice course, facility and staff. Decent pace of play and a nice practice facility. There is also a lovely patio and good restaruant.
The course was great. The starter put me with a group ahead, which was great since I was a single. Probably won't return as $81 is a bit steep for a public course.
A very professionally run golf course. The people are friendly and willing to help you at a moments notice. The 9 hole course is in excellent condition.
The electric carts are in good condition and are kept clean. I would highly recommend this course to anyone.
Both 9 and 18 hole courses are great! Enjoy playing either track, especially during the twilight hours.
The best public course in the Chicago-land area. From the second I enter the property I feel at home. The people in the pro shop are always nice and pleasant. The course is always well maintained with immaculate greens. A true pleasure to play golf at the Village Links in Glen Ellyn. I always look forward to my next round.
Well maintained course, great amenities, pace of play was perfect and we played during peak hours.
Editing my review: I initially posted that the pace of play was a problem, and I have to say that I have seen a real difference the last two times that I played there. Last week we were able to finish 18 holes in significantly less than 4 hours -- and we played the 9 hole course later in the week in just over 2 hours during a primetime afternoon period, and I could see that rangers were out on the course. The Village Links continues to be the best value in the Western Suburbs for the quality of the course / conditions -- and we have always received great service from people like Stevie and Rick as well. Keep up the good work and keep those golfers moving!
Love the course and everything about it. Only complaint is the tee time website. If you have reserved a foursome, it will only let you cancel 3 of them if you need to cancel.
The bunkers on the 9 hole course are in rough shape, but it was fun with my daughter to be out there
Top notch staff, well maintained course with fast but honest greens and reasonably priced! Havent played Village Links in many years, but I will be back!
I played golf today at the Links. Very good experience and at a timely pace. Then stayed for dinner at Reserve 22. By far the best patio in the area. Beautiful view on sunset. Excellent fish entree served just as requested. A very enjoyable fall day.
Probably the best test of golf, that is not private. Greens are always quick but fair. There is a reason US Open qualifications happens here. It is a honest examination of your game. The new super Andrew has removed some trees and also fixed some drainage issues. Reserve 22 is great food and if the weather is nice the patio is excellent.
The Links is a great muni 18 plus another good 9. Carts have GPS and the are well maintained. Good food options after 11am with a good halfway house and a roaming beverage cart on the 18. Online tee time reservations make it easy.
Challenging but fair 18 hole layout, with an additional 9 hole course where most holes are as difficult as the holes on the 18 hole course. Both courses always well maintained. Staff is friendly and the greens fees are very competitive.
Beautifully manicured golf course … A great experience. The entire course, foliage and trees including is just beautiful. We walked 9 and would do it again. Enjoy yourselves.
My friend and I played 9 holes at the Links on Thursday. We were impressed at how well organized and safe their system was. The 15 minute intervals went smoothly and people were vary courteous on the course all afternoon. We were held up on one or two holes by slow play of twosome in front of us. The twosome behind us just slowed down and were very polite. Everyone just seemed happy to be outside and back at the game they love.
Great experience - we recommend it highly!
I played the 18 hole course which was extremely well-maintained. The layout is fun, challenging, and beautiful. The staff is very friendly with everyone performing their jobs efficiently. There is a very nice senior rate M-Th.
Vince was the starter that day and really did me a favor by getting me out on the course ahead of a slow foursome - We finished 4 holes ahead of the slow group - well, slower than us anyway. We played in under 3.5 hours. Vince is a great teaching pro and really has helped me over the years.
Very well keep course. The greens were outstanding, very fast. I’d play the course again.
Course is well maintained by friendly staff. Both the 9-hole and 18-hole courses offer a scenic challenge to any golfer. Additionally, this location has excellent training programs to help make the game more enjoyable.
You get to experience what tour professional have to endure if you play from the way back tees. Great golf course. It has every challenge you're looking for-bunkers, water, tough greens, etc. etc.
Great 9-hole course for quick rounds during the week. Course was in good condition for August. $20 rate for non-resident good too. Can’t make tee time for one player, so check their tee-time openings before you head over.
Similar response to survey request as last year. Course in great condition for my mid-July 9-hole round. $18 senior rate for non-residents great too.
Great courses (they have both a 9 hole and 18 hole course) as well as a very nice practice facility. The courses are challenging and the greens are tricky to read but always a lot of fun. \ I have always had great golf experiences at the Links.
Excellent service, beautiful Venue, Awesome Salads, and the NACHOS are great!
Just went to the putting practice area to work on my putting. Not crowded and was able to not perfect my putting stroke. I believe putting is both mental and physical. I am not doing very well at either, constant work in progress, but nice practice area.
What a great atmosphere. The staff was friendly and helpful, the golf course was beautiful, I highly recommend it!
Excellent courses and practice facility. Friendly customer service and amenities. The only change I would need to play more often is lower greens fees and more discounted deals, like expanding resident status to Wheaton.
This is my "Go To" 9 hole for golf! What a layout for just nine holes! Easy to book, convenient location and the maintenance of the course is meticulous. I would truly recommend Village Links of Glen Ellyn to anyone who loves to play golf. That goes for the 18 hole course as well!
This is a great course. Not very challenging for an average golfer but it is beautiful to look at and the prices are reasonable. I really like the driving range and thing that makes me absolutely love this place is that they have a chipping and pitching green right off the parking lot to the right as you come in. This is probably the best chipping and pitching practice green in the chicagoland area with plenty of room to practice all sorts of short-game shots whether they are 10 yards or 35 yards...very hard to find a practice area like this.
My family and I absolutely love to golf at the village links. The course is typically well maintained, the location is tucked away well enough to make you forget that you're playing in the suburbs. My wife and I have also taken group lessons at the course and both found the pro's to be quite knowledgeable and friendly. They cost for golf is reasonably priced as well, making 9 holes for date night quite possible. The restaurant at the links has absolutely the best outdoor dining space in all Glen Ellyn, and the food and service have improved significantly in the past year.
Great Sliders. Service was slow, but we were a large party of about 20 people and celebrating a birthday, so that was perfect. Staff very friendly. We had a lovery lunch.
Course and practice areas are in great shape despite the recent drought followed by the subsequent deluge of rain.
The staff are always helpful and polite. I really like the Village Links app which works well for tee times, as well as on course functionality.
Golf course superintendent is doing a great job! Love the way this course plays. Golf and Restaurant staff are outstanding. No way there is a better experience at a public venue in IL ! Highly recommend playing and dining here!!
Great Value, good conditions. I have played here many a time. They have a nice full 9 hole course if you are in a hurry or a beginner. Then they also have an 18 for better golfers. The nice is straight forward and simple. The 18 has some real fun greens with nice undulation. Just make sure you pick the right tee box. The range is great for practice and they have a good short game practice area as well, including a 3 putting greens and pitching green and a practice bunker. I buy the range bucket pass, cause it saves you a ton.
Friendly clubhouse! Great course! This is my home course that I keep coming back to. The course is well kept and challenging.
The 18 hole course is good. The complaints, the driving range and pro shop. The driving range is like hitting out of rough. Needs to be mowed lower. All flags should be elevated on a green to make it more realistic. The one green has two foot high weeds on it. The range field should be mowed on a regular basis to give it a better appearance. Sand traps should be added on the east side because the practice sand traps are always being used or contending with people flying 30 yard wedge shots on to the green. After spending a large amount of tax payer money, the driving range should be maintained better. Plus your spending $ 10.00 for a bucket of 20 year old balls. . There was a major renovation made to the club house and nothing was done to a dark dismal pro shop. It is like coming into a low ceiling cave with no space.
Great course, fantastic food hospitality & service.
Nice course (9 hole), but some bunkers were hard as concrete. Layout is good, and hazards are not overwhelming. Par 3s are on the long side, but fair. Looking forward to playing the 18 hole course.
Beautiful course in great shape with a fun design. Staff was very friendly as well. All for a very reasonable price. Great value! Highly recommend!
Coarse is in excellent condition.
Playing time was excellent
Coarse is a pleasure to play and the staff is excellent
Played 9 holes during the new COVID-19 guidelines. All went well. They were very prepared & abided by the new rules. The course looked great and played well, even with recent rains! The staff is always friendly!
Village Links provides a top-notch 18 hole course and fun 9-hole course that is well maintained.
Played on a holiday. Pace was great, course conditions were even better.
Friendly people at the counter, course in excellent shape and the ranger does an excellent job in keeping the pace of golf moving.
Great tournament, well organized and very up to date technology.
Great course that comes close to private clubs. Bar and restaurant have a good atmosphere. Ok service. Rangers keep play moving along. Played in 4 hours with many walkers on the course.
Village Links was in great shape and proved challenging as it was a very windy day. The greens were smooth and well maintained. I can't wait to get back to play.
Course was in great shape and variety of Tee options makes it easier for a group with players of various ages to enjoy playing together.
Great Pro shop and Staff! Friendly ! Beautiful course!
Course is great and well kept! You can access the halfway house many times throughout the round. The carts are nice and the staff is friendly. Overall awesome experience!
A nice course, pricey for a public course when there are so many options for less money.
On another note, Re the 9 hole course, the forward (ladies ) tee box needs to move forward. My wife plays in the Women"s league comprised of most over 65 years old. she is a good athlete, but being over 75 the ladies course is to long and it ceases to be fun. The links would be advised to shorten the forward tees.
Nice People. Reasonable Pricing. I've only played the East 9 hole course (alot) and found the course always in good shape, though as in most courses the players should do better replacing Divots, rakeing the Sand - which is above average texture at this course, and leveling greens' ball craters. This is a FUN course for distance, walkability, toughness, and variety. I just realized there are no water holes on the East 9. That shows you that a course can be tough wo/water. For Sure, give it a fling. Not a narrow fairway on this course but plenty of length and protected greens and fairways. DG/10062021
Nice public track. Choose either the 9-hole or 18-hole course, both are well maintained and challenging. The clubhouse has a great outdoor post-round dining or drinking patio.
Pro shop Professionals very helpful at minimizing our fees and securing 4 carts on a busy 4th of July weekend round. Good course and patio restaurant/bar was a super COVID 19th hole.
The course was really nice. Greens challenging, sand was well groomed and soft, and a lot of water challenges. The restaurant at the end was nice and a great way to enjoy or commiserate.
My first experience here, just moving to the area. Played the 9 hole course, and liked the layout. Overall, nice course, excellent staff and amenities. I'll be back. Played again August 2020. Still 5 stars!
The village links is one of your better option for public golf in the west suburbs. The course is maintained quite well and offers a good challenge. Last time played was just to fit in 9 holes after work instead of sitting in traffic heading back into downtown. It was a little crowded (5PM) but otherwise was an enjoyable experience. The hole positions are fair and the course isn't bogged down with hazards, so average golfers can go out and have a good time. Fairways are typically straight and the rough is short, which allows for better scoring. The fairways are lined with trees, but not so many that you have no play out if you hit a wayward shot.
Village Links of Glen Ellyn is a tough, well-bunkered golf course with quick greens and some difficult hole locations... today anyway.
One is in for a long day if missing approach shots on the short side becomes habitual. Keep the ball underneath the hole and plan for putts to run out.
Pace of play is the issue which cost a fifth star. There was rain late during the round so rangers were scarce, but the damage was already done.
Paying $77 should not entitle one player or that player's group to inconvenience everyone.
Village Links is a great well cared for course. The employees are all very nice. Our girls group which consists of women from Orland Park & downtown Chicago make it a point to play here every summer.
I'm a consultant in the golf industry and my company is engaged with the principals of Village Links, the Village of Glen Ellyn. As a consultant with over 50-years in the business, the last 25-years reviewing golf courses, I have been pleasantly surprised at how much energy toward the game I see here at Village Links.
Village Links two golf courses, the 9 and the 18 are busy, in great condition, and the crew here have made the four-hour round a priority.
The all-grass practice range is the busiest range I've seen in years. I give Village links at least 4 1/2 stars.
Village Links is very hospitable to women, which is not always the case at other courses. We love to go play.
This is the worst run golf course in Chicago area. I came to this municipal course for some good golf. After spending $77.00 for 18 holes it took over 5 hours to complete. The course is just ok. I will never return to play this course again.
Friendly staff, inexpensive golf, nice course, an all around good experience.
Excellent course with a great staff. We enjoyed a great family outing followed up with a great meal on their large patio.
Best outdoor dinning in DuPage County. Views of the golf course are amazing. Hi on the list for an appetizer are the Nachos. Love the Nicoise Salad (seared tuna). Very Freindly staff.
Both the 9 and 18 hole course are well kept and challenging. It’s a great public course, very much enjoy playing it. Can be slow sometimes.
Very nice, challenging golf course and very friendly staff. The restaurant is excellent too! Absolutely going back!!
My nephew, Christopher, had his wedding reception on Sept. 2. From the time we arrived, the appetizers, buffet and bar was fabulous! Everyone very accommodating and friendly! The buffet of baked pasta, chicken piccata, salad and focaccia rolls were very delicious. The chicken and pasta was so warm, and replenished promptly. I would suggest this beautiful location for anyone's gathering.
Family and friends raved about how beautiful the grounds were. My family and others enjoyed having dancing available on the patio that night!
Thank you very much for s wonderful evening.
Beautiful course, very nice staff
Food in the restaurant was fantastic
Course conditions are always great here as is pace of play. Got a great weekday deal to boot. Staff is always friendly and helpful, especially the woman working the halfway house.
During my round I lost my Sky Caddie SG5. Did not notice it gone until loading my car after the round. Went to the cart "pen" to check for it. The attendant for carts was able to find my cart number. Not there. He helped me look at all carts. No luck. Left my name and cell phone with the pro shop. Called the next day and the SG5 had been returned and was being held at the pro shop :). It's old but it still gives me some info that is helpful so I appreciate their help in finding it. Believe the reason I lost it was the yardage and hole info provided by the system in the cart was giving me all the info I needed. VL is a great place to play!
Service, food and overall venue was wonderful. They hit a hole in one.
Overpriced for what it is. Nice looking course but for the money there are better options. Was in good shape all around and has some challenge to it for sure.
Course in very good shape. Friendly folks in the Pro Shop.
Great course in great shape! We play every Saturday and love how consistent the greens have been this summer.
Well conditioned public 18 & 9 hole regulation golf courses. Usually plays in 2hrs per 9. Decent restaurant, range, short game practice area and putting greens.
Fun course, personable staff, great pro lessons, and terrific burgers! Only thing is, I wish they had continued to offer Golfboards to cruise the course.
Always well manicured, with some of the quickest greens in Chicago. Whether you’re talking to the guys in the pro shop, or on the turf, the staff is top-notch!
Fair challenge at all levels, well groomed ,always enjoy the scenic beauty of the course.
Finish it off at their beautiful outdoor restaurant.
Friendly staff, course is in great shape, greens are rolling well!
Great course, challenging and usually in great shape.
Great challenging courses for the the whole family and beautifully kept. Definitely recommend! But don't steal my tee times!
Great course very challenging plays longer than 6300 yards. Fairways and greens in great condition! Four hour round.
Once again a beautiful day on a beautiful course! I even got a par on number 2.
10/10 public golf course. Very challenging but fair. So many ways to play each hole. I could play every weekend and it never gets old.
excellent golf course for starter up player like me ! improving the game overtime i play here. Priced right, service is prompt and facilities to practice golf is just right !
Great municipal course! Very challenging with lots of water, length, and big greens. Always kept in very good shape.
We had a group of 24 players that were handled flawlessly, both on the course and afterwards at Reserve 22. A great time was had by all!
My favorite local golf course! Friendly staff, fun to play, and a great 19th hole at Reserve 22
Always a great time! Beautiful course with friendly and helpful staff! Glen Ellyn's lucky to have the Links!
Great golf course. U.S. Men's and Women's Open Regional Qualifying caliber. Reserve 22 is an awesome restaurant.
Decent layout and conditions. Not terribly challenging, but fun overall. Pace of play can be a bit slow.
We love this local golf course. You can pay the starter and don’t even have to enter the clubhouse. Feels safe and contactless.
Excellent, well maintained golf course and a great place to eat after a round of golf!
Excellent local, public golf course, that is maintained and equipped like a fancy club at a fraction of the cost.
Great facility , very good staff ( friendly and helpful ) only downside with golf are the sand traps , not very well maintained . The rest of the course in great shape!!
Very friendly staff. The golf course in great shape and I do recommend it highly
Played the 9 hole course. Very challenging, in good shape. Starters are the best!
My friend Tom Fota is the new chef there.... Go there. He is a great chef, this place has a wonderful staff, and great service. Ask for Cheryl! She is the absolute best!
Had a good experience. Nice course, reasonably priced, and the play time was good. I’ll definitely play there again.
We've never had a bad time here on the golf course or at the restaurant, staff is always very friendly and helpful. Wonderful time, every time.
Always a great course. Good condition, fun to play with lots of interesting holes.
The AP is Easy to use, you can prepay get gps distance to the flag, keep score. Also gives distance to the practice flags!
Course and greens are in great shape and they stretched out tee times to 10 minutes which really helped any slow play that the course might have experienced before.
Course is kept in great shape, pace is normally good, clubhouse is nice, outdoor patio is awesome!
The staff is always professional and friendly. We went to the patio to have lunch and the wait staff is always great. We always feel very comfortable coming here.
Course in great shape and play was fast.
The course was in great shape, but the pin placements were quite challenging for a random Wednesday round.
Very friendly staff and well maintained course
Good range. Nice course that any skill level can play on and have a good time. Never had any problems here.
Good place to watch the game, and the outdoor patio is awesome. The indoor dining area could use some work though...its not too cozy and isn't that big.
Great course if you want to play 18 or quick 9. Fantastic club house renovations.
Course was wet, but a beautiful track. Plenty of space, country club like setting. Highly recommend.
Great people, great programs, leagues are run very well, also a nice restaurant with good food! they have the whole package!
COURSE IS IN GREAT SHAPE. AFFORDABLE WALING 9 HOLES. TAMMY IS A VERY POLITE AND ATTENTIVE CART PERSON.
Very nice challenging course
Great coaches and great staff. All the pros,Doug,Mike, and Mark are excellent. Highly recommend this place. Great outdoor patio.
Great 18 and 9 hole course. All staff are friendly and helpful. Restaurant and bar are great.
I had not played here in 13 yrs I forgot how nice this course is
enjoyed it very much staff if very nice
I found it a bit pricy for the quality of the course and service from staff but overall a very nice setup, moderately challenging with good length of holes and creative hazard placements.
Great course but $40 for a golf cart is ridiculous. Most courses are $12 to $15 a person.
One of the best courses in the area. Challenging from any of the tees. Great condition. They Keep players moving
Very nice course & golf facility. I hope to visit again soon!
Great track. Challenging. Staff was very helpful. Bring balls.
Love the course and the staff. Been coming for decades and have made it my home course
