I was impressed by the layout of the course, very fun to play. Greens were still coming out of aeration, so they were a little bumpy. But overall, green speeds, fairways, and conditions of the course were very top notch for the price to play. Worth your time to play this course.

George Wright is spectacular course at an unbelievable value. The course was in great condition (October 2022). There were a few patchy areas on the fairways, and one green (#13) appeared to have a fungus issue, but everything was perfectly playable and enjoyable. The greens are generally fast, firm, consistent, and clever in design. The tee boxes are large, flat, and well maintained. The layout is difficult but not unfair, and quite smart—one of Donald Ross’s best. Good players are challenged to hit tough shots, while average players have plenty of room to get the ball in play. The course is quite walkable despite being very hilly. All in all, it’s hard to believe that this is a municipal course that can be played for under $60 on weekends. It deserves its place as one of the best, if not the best, municipal course in New England. The only minor drawbacks are the lack of a driving range (not unusual at all for this area) and the difficulty of getting a tee time. I would happily play here again any day, any time.

I played here in June when I was in town for the U.S. Open. The fact you have a municipal course designed by the Donald Ross is amazing, and it lived up to the hype. The prices are reasonable for out of towners. It was in the 70 range per-person for my dad and I, and that included cart. For the conditions of the course, it was well worth it. I've paid more for worse conditions. Also it's cheaper for locals. Finally I loved the course itself. It's challenging since it has elevation changes, blind shots, and Donald Ross greens where they are elevated and can roll off if you are testing the edges. That said, it felt fair. I never felt like the difficulty was a gimmick like a tree in the middle of the fairway, or greens that have 45 degree slopes in the middle for giggles, and so forth. For me, this is fair and challenging golf. Not gimmicky or trying to be too long for the average amateur with 190 par-3s from the whites like some stupid courses do. Overall a great course steep in history. It was a WPA project during the depression, and Boston has a true gem here.

Absolutely loved this course. I dropped in to practice putting but the staff was so nice, they set me up to play 9 holes even though it was a busy Sunday morning. The course was in fabulous shape, it's a real gem as far as layout and challenging play. Beautiful landscaping and park setting so no houses around at all (except for along #1 and those aren't in play at all). You don't find a Muni with in tact 1938 Ballroom, Locker room & clubhouse that looks like a mansion every day!

Nice layout, greens good, fairways ok, tee boxes good. VERY HILLY, which makes it extra challenging. White tees require good, straight long shots. Second shot shouldn't be cheap. Will play again. Wish the cart direction sign was closer to green

We started 9 holes on the back 9 which we later found meant we teed off with the most difficult holes on the course. Either way, it was a good time- course was well maintained, staff was friendly and plenty of libations on offer at the club house. Plenty of carts to go around too.

Wow. Just wow. Hats off to Donald Ross and the city of boston. Was undecided about playing here due to the cheap green fees and the fact that it is a municipal course, but trust me, it is worth every cent and more. Every hole is unique in its own way, and if you don't hit the shots, you will be punished. The undulations were incredible. The only negative was the greens were a bit bumpy due to aeration. If you are traveling through boston, you have to stop here!

When we checked in, we were told we were going to love the condition of the greens. 100% agree with that statement. The greens are fast and extremely well kept. Putting was a good challenge for all our party. The rest of the course is ok. The fairways have a decent amount of grass. However, they are on the rough side. We rarely could drive full speed in our cart because of the possible jolting from travelling over the rough areas. There were areas, not far off the fairways that were rocky and hard to traverse. The biggest issue we had with this course was the restrictions of cart usage. On holes 12 & 13 (both par 4), carts were restricted to the cart path. If you hit your drive on the wrong side of the fairway, you are looking at a 75 yard walk to hit your second shot. Hole #15 had a similar restriction. Other holes had cart restrictions in the fairway approximately 100 yards from the green. The value of a cart was significantly reduced due to the restrictions....lots of walking for having paid for the cart.

This place is the balls. 3:30 total time round on a Saturday mid day is the best you’ll find at any public course on a Saturday. Greens were perfect, course is immaculate. Great Saturday.

Wow couldn't disagree more with the last review, if everyone else seems to be a jerk, then maybe consider the problem is you. Great course, everyone from the pro shop to Marshall to bar staff couldn't have been nicer. Being from Texas where most courses are flat and built for speedy rounds, Blind shots are what makes golf interesting for me. Buy a yardage book or a GPS app that shows whats over that hill and go have fun at this awesome muni.

Great course. Hadn't played it since 2002. Well deserving of the #3 municipal course in America; numbers 9 and 10 are some of the most challenging holes I've seen. The course is in great shape; new tee on 6 opens in July.

A really classic loop. Challenging with decent yardage, but not overwhelming. Just a great old design with big greens, lots of fairway and and fun elevations, but trouble can sneak up on you if you aren't careful. Fairways were in impressive shape for early May! Just wish they would do something fun with that giant old Great Gatsby mansion clubhouse.

Conditions were good not great. Lots of work being done on the course which made it a little tricky. A bunch of kids were working on the greens all day and they barely looked up when you were hitting so you had to yell fore every approach shot basically.

Ok golf course. One of the few public options within 30 minutes of downtown Boston. Pace of play here is quite possibly the worst in the country on weekends. Be prepared for a 5+ hour round. Conditions are just ok. No driving range. $70 with a cart is decent value though.

This is a very cool, historical timepiece. It IS muni course, if you expect perfect conditions., you should play elsewhere. If you can handle less than country club conditions, give it a try. This is a Donald Ross course, take time to appreciate the dedign. It IS tight, deceptively "long". Be prepared for a chalkwnge. They also have an excellent restaurant/bar on site.

Tough course with elevation changes and blind shots. Greens were rolling really nice. Deep greenside pot bunkers, risk reward setup is a lot of fun. If it's your first time playing, bring a few extra balls. Hole 1 & 2 are great to get warmed up and then hole 3 the difficulty starts...all in all a really nice municipal course.

I've played this course maybe 5 times over the last several years. Love the layout, but when I played last month the fairways and rough were in terrible condition. Greens were decent condition. All in all, not worth the 75 bucks or whatever it is for a weekday rate!

Fun course good shape. Was told it was a hard course to walk. My wife and (I one senior) found it no problem to walk just be sure to bring water none on course.we played at 630 am did have a refreshment cart come to us on the 18th hole so if u play early bring water.

Just a gem of a place. Challenging course. Wonderful staff. Beautiful views. Great price for 18 beautiful holes. Joe Leary, Steve Allen, and team do a wonderful job. Don't pack a lunch, there are great grilled items at the turn and equally great food in the bricked club house.

The golf course is one of my favorites. Lots of attention to improving the golf course over the last few years. The layout is one of the best. My only gripe would be I wish the pro shop senior personel had better customer service qualities.

Great local course. Lots of blind shots, kinda have to play multiple times. Pace was wicked slow, and wish rangers would speed play along. Wanted to give 3 for pace, but course setup and proximity to city just hard to beat. Tee time difficult to get an early tee time on weekend.

I'm lucky to live close to this excellent course. It's well-maintained, has a good variety of challenges, and is fun to play. The city has clearly been putting money into renovating the spectacular clubhouse and grounds.

Tough course. Lots of blind shots. One of the par 5s on the back 9 has a very steep hill, they should really put a sign there. Saw someone accidentally drive down it. Must have been terrifying.

I grew up in Hyde Park and on that golf course that's one of the best public golf courses in state of Massachusetts and it's run by two top-notch guys Scott and Joe. And the head groundskeeper. Its a five-star golf course. I recommend you go play it .
