Reviews of Highland Park Golf Course
Tyler Thornton
Good course, but they need to improve the driving range. The price of the course is high, but people pay for it, so from a business aspect, I get it. I’ll come again for sure.
Pros:
* Course is in very good condition
* Staff is friendly
* Practice green is great
Cons:
*Price is pretty high for what it is ($60+ for 18 on weekends)
*They are booking tee times 9 minutes apart which is pretty crazy if in a 4 person team.
*Driving range is in pretty bad shape. I’d rather hit off of mats in this condition. Really hope they work to improve the driving range because I enjoy coming here after work to hit some balls

This incredibly compact gem hidden on the northeast edge of downtown Bham is in perfect shape. But first, a petty complaint: zero carts allowed on fairways and they’re gps monitored to slow down to infant crawl speed if you go beyond 8-10ft off the cart path. I understand this helps play into a major component for why the fairways are in such immaculate shape and, with the heavy amount of players on this public course, the fairways would be in rough shape if they didn’t forbid fairway travel. But still!! 🤪. All of the staff were extremely accommodating and helpful. Nicole, the snack cart lady, was very helpful and a much needed lighthearted encounter. It’s a short course even from the back #1 tee but very precise tee shot placement is needed on nearly every hole. I’d definitely play again.

I always Enjoy 😉 my Time at the Highlands.
The Staff is always Kind and Welcoming.
I personally recommend them to Folks looking to have a Golf Experience.. …

Enjoyable course. Short, but tight in some places. I’ve played in cold weather as well as the heat of summer and the greens are well manicured. I’ve also played in rainy conditions and the course drains well. Very few sitting puddles. The workers are all friendly and helpful. Good range and putting/chipping greens for practice. I haven’t tried any food or beverages, but the drink cart is always making the rounds. Overall solid course!

We decided to play here for a 30th birthday celebration. We had a group of 6 total. I will preface by saying that we are all still beginners. Our group has been playing regularly for roughly 1.5 years. So we are still learning the game.
First, the course is beautiful. That’s a given. A nitpick is there are too many par 3’s in my opinion. I also think the tee times are scheduled too close to one another. I understand the more tee times available equates to more profits for the course, but the end result is groups are more likely to play on top of one another. If this was a private club, 7-8 min between tee times would make sense. For a public course, 12-15 min is more ideal. And to top it off, cart path only (regardless of conditions) will always result in a slower pace in play.
The course ranger, Richard, was our biggest complaint. I fully understand he has a job to do and if a group is being too slow, reminding them to speed up is completely understandable. It’s entirely unnecessary to be rude about it though. Before we even started at hole 1, he was being passive aggressive with our group for no reason at all. If we were late starting, I can understand a comment that we will need to hurry. But we were right on time. Again, I understand pace is important, but there is also an element of customer service that should maintained. @Richard, you’re in the customer service business my friend and you missed the mark on that front unfortunately.
If you are still trying to figure out the game, don’t go here. If Richard’s temperament and attitude is a reflection of the course as a whole, they don’t want you here.

Make sure you put this course on your list when in Birmingham. It’s a challenge, it plays fast, it’s easy on the wallet, and it’s just plain fun. Oh, and great views of the city.

Nice course...staff.Golf shop needs update.
Hannah Hughes
A great course with beautiful greens, friendly staff & an excellent burger! I will definitely be coming back!
Fox Gampher
great course to play, but whoever was put in charge of range ball pricing has committed crimes comparable to inmates on death row by having a large bucket of balls worth half the price of round including a cart. Also the tee times feel like they are about 2 minutes apart and i have never heard the marshal speak. I’m starting to think they hired a mute as an act of charity.

Probably as nice a municipal course I have ever played, Bentgrass greens In Alabama on August 5th were in great shape. Hardly a bare patch anywhere on course. Bunkers in good shape. It's not a long course but for my 13 year old son and his high handicapper father, it was fun.
John Greene
Best course in Bham for the price. Short course that allows fun drives but its also a challenge to play Irons only. It can get backed up on the weekends but beginners have to start somewhere! The greens have recently been redone so fix your divots!

Not a championship course due to its length but good to work on short irons into the greens and tight tee shots. Range is in OK shape. Greens are slow. Fairways are good. All new staff (some friendly) but not like before.
Tim Brice
Nice location, but haven't updated their driving range in YEARS

I hosted a benefit golf tournament at Highland Park recently and Courtney Smith and her event planning team couldn’t have been more accommodating and easy to work with. They made planning the event a breeze and their execution was flawless. I would strongly encourage anyone looking for a venue to host 50+ people to inquire about the club’s second floor ballroom, which includes a balcony overlooking the course and a large outside space for entertaining.

Nice course staff is ivitingwould recommend this course to anyone that likes to play the game. With that being said , if your long drive is only 100 yards.... pratice b4 you come. It can get hung up on holes....
Matt Waters
Plays short but is a fair challenge no matter the skill level with some fairly long holes. Fair price for the area and is very enjoyable to play. Very walkable and is usually cart path only. Almost always in great shape.
Worth Hanson
Beautiful course. Fall sunsets are special.
Case Bryant
Well kept course, Greens play on the Slower Shaggier Side of things. Pace of play can be an issue sometimes. But for the amount of play that it gets not bad
Gary Heinze
Beautiful course. Short, but deceptively challenging. Excellent condition due, in part to permanent cart path only. Tough on an older guy, though
Guy Dewees
Fun but challenging course.
Grill has the best bacon cheeseburger in town!
Tonya Johnson-Hudson
Beautiful course with excellent service, never had to wonder where the cart girl was. Everyone was so nice and accommodating. Definitely will be back.

Our company hosted our annual employee golf tournament at Highland Park Golf Course. Courtney made the planning process a breeze and Tripp ensured the tournament ran smoothly. Thanks again for a 'swinging' good time!

Had my wedding here and it was a night to remember. Friendly staff-very helpful. Beautiful landscape! Affordable and they will work with you to make your dream wedding come to life!
Raymond Lupin
The staff is very friendly and the course was in pretty good shape. It's a short course but it's still fairly challenging. The greens were a little bumpy.
Paul Kilgas
Well-manicured course that takes advantage of he space available as well as the geography of Birmingham. Short but fun to play. Rates are a touch steep considering the ease of the course but it's accessible and in a convenient location.
AndTeeter
Great course. Kinda tight at times and a little pricey. Otherwise fun to play. Well maintained.
Chris shattuck
The oldest course in Alabama continues to impress. Great views, nice greens and a hilly and semi-tight layout that requires a straight shooter to score.
Larry Jennings
Course is well manicured, customer service was excellent and accommodations for our tournament today were on point.
Davis Varner
They've done an excellent job on the renovation. Greens are in great shape. It's a fun course to play.
LuckyAF FPV

Stacy Johnson
Cart path only everyday
Jeffrey Luck
I just used the driving range which was a little beat up in some areas as expected. The course really looked nice.
Nero Reigns
Beautiful snapshot of Birmingham's golf courses, but overpriced. Would play more often, but it takes all day!
William Jones
Great course, pro shop staff are top notch, and the breakfast sandwich is delicious!
Mat Burkett
Great course and staff. Always in good shape.
Sigmund Sanford
Small & quick course
Or get a bucket of balls at driving range to kill some time
Larry Toler
I don't play golf, but I work there as maintenance and equipment operator. I like it.
Nathan English
Nice course with some great views of the city. Short course, but fun.

Cart path only year round, regardless of conditions, is... dumb.
