Reviews of Pine Ridge Golf Course
Jeff Price
Beautiful course along the water's edge with lots of great views. It plays a little long with several par 5s and some par 4s that feel like 5s. We played on a bit of a cold day in November and there were quite a few large dead spots in the rough that looked like sand traps.
Steve Fradkin
What a great atmosphere! The staff and crew always have a smile and warm greeting, it's as if they actually like their jobs! The course itself is awesome and maintained beautifully and presents a great challenge for even the more advanced golfer! One of my favorites!
rob yunker
Course condition is very good considering the number of rounds they do every year. I love the layout around the reservoir and the staff seems to be paying more attention to managing pace of play, previous rounds regularly +5hrs. Last 2 rounds under 4.5hrs.
Steve Andrew
I specifically enjoy this place because they have driving range bays with TopTracer technology (not to be confused with TopGolf). TopTracer is a better fit for practicing, and even has an app to keep track of performance improvements on swings. It is generally pretty busy, but most times there is no wait for a bay.
Staff is also super friendly, and everything is just well maintained. Excellent work across the board.
Andrew Snyder
Great course. Great scenic views. One of my favorite courses to play.
Steven Lunsford
This was a really nice course, particularly for a city-owned one. The fairways and greens were well maintained, with only a few areas where the grass hadn't come back in yet. Pace of play was pretty quick, though that may have been because we had a Tuesday AM tee time. The course had some good challenging holes and the setting around Loch Raven was great! I look forward to playing this course again.
Paul Harris
I felt like I had the place to myself. A rare occurrence at Pine Ridge. The conditions were not perfect but considering the traffic this place gets, it is perfect!
Jeff Beans
Pine Ridge is great. It is a public municipal golf course. It is one of five Baltimore Municipal Courses. It is the best of the five. It is beautiful and well maintained for a public course. It is always busy so it can feel crowded at time but it is a great course. The driving range is nice covered and non covered spots off mats.
David Freitag
Nice golf course but it gets crowded in the summer sometimes
Dominic Wiker
Great conditions today. Thank you maintenance crews. Greens rolled true. Pace was fine for weekend AM.
Thomas Irwin, Jr.
We love this course. Beautiful views of Loch Raven, helpful staff, and everything is well kept. The youth clinics are also great.
Katie V
Beautiful course, and the driving range is on point. Well-maintained, even has a club cleaner! Friendly staff. We come often and will continue to.
Richard Young
Honestly, I don't thimnk Pine Ridge is a LONG gplf course. If any golfer thinks a course is long then they're probably playing from the WRONG tees. Move up to white or gold if necessary. It makes ypur golf a lot more fun. Especially after reaching 50 years of age plus some. But men have EGOS that will never go away. That's why we have so much slow play on public courses IMO.
James Mason Altair
Friendly and cheap driving range. My son accidentally slung his club out into the area where people drive golf balls. We had to get the guy working there to stop everyone for a couple of seconds so he could get his club. The man was nice and all the people there chuckled a bit and were very nice. I highly recommend the driving range here. Laid back, family friendly, and a beautiful area.
Carol Brown
Great place to golf and reasonably priced. Friendly staff and very professional.
Michael Jones
Beautiful and challenging course. Lots of dog legs. Generous greens.
Kevin Grant
I golf at this place frequently it's nice and price friendly also.
William Lieberman
Classic public course. Need every stick in your bag to be successful here.
Course is long. And very few tee shots are straight. Doglegs on almost every hole. So, have to think. Can't just bring out a driver. Can easily blow through fairway into the trees, and then you can forget about par. Greens a large and tend to be a little on the slow side.
And, the course is absolutely beautiful. Hole 8 (a par 3 over the water) might be the prettiest in Maryland. And, there are several carries over water (or fairways that roll off to the water).
Great course. I highly recommend it!
Update 2022. Greens are no longer slow. They are in really great shape and pretty fast. Especially if you are above the hole. Still one of the great courses in Central Maryland.
Andy R
Nice course. Late in the season so I assumed it would be a little beat down, but not that bad. Whoever moves the holes on the greens needs to be taught a lot better. Thats it though.
Nathan Wilson
Even in late winter this course in in great shape! I was lucky to play on a cold (20 degree) day and have the course all to my self, it was a real treat. The back 9 is beautiful with great views looking out onto the reservoir.
The two drawbacks to playing here are 1. an unbelievable amount of animal waste on the grounds (I was sweeping goose and deer poop out of the way for almost every shot) 2. during peak season this course is packed, I would recommend a weekday tee time if possible to avoid some of the crowd.
All in all Pine Ridge is a must play in the Baltimore area!
Marlowe Gilmore
Very nice course, well maintained. Huge greens without a lot of undulation but still tough to putt on. Although it's only minutes out of the city the course has a nice country feel to it, no houses on the course and many of the holes have a view of the lake. I really enjoyed it
D L
Definitely enjoyed my round here with a bunch of friends in 40 degree weather. First hole has a really cool approach shot. Green looks like it's built into the sky. With all the cold weather the trees were still without leaves. That meant uninterrupted views of the Loch Raven Reservoir. It's a beautiful piece of property but a friend said the leaves block a decent amount of the views otherwise. They did just lose some trees in the windstorm, so hopefully it's a little better. The collection of par 3s are excellent with a lot of water involved. Tons of doglegs throughout the course. You truly have to play it several times to get your lines off the tee. We played the white tee boxes and it was still challenging. I would definitely be back. Considering the weather today, it was surprisingly busy. So I can imagine this place being pretty packed on a normal weekend.
The driving range was solid. Pretty typical muni range with worn out golf balls, decent mats, but a lot of space to hit range balls. There's a chipping green out front and a putting green right near the first tee box. Great layout throughout and the food at their grill was pretty good.
Ed Schultheis
The best of the Baltimore City courses. Pine Ridge is heads and shoulders above the other 4 city owned courses. The views are impeccable, the variety of holes is welcome, and the course plays well for a plethora of handicaps. It can get packed on the weekend, but that is because people know it is a great course at a great price. If you love to walk 18, this is the course for you. Get there early to enjoy the views and have a peaceful round.
J Mike
I came to Maryland from a private club in Texas
and had the opportunity to join many clubs but after 1 day at pine ridge (which is public), I have
chosen to play here; the personnel and other workers have been extraordinary. The course is scenic; the price is very reasonable and the driving range is well done. The staff is very accommodating and I would continue my play were I not moving to another state. I hope I can find another club which Is a pleasure to be a member. Thanks to all. ( by the way, the course is challenging but fair from all tee boxes)
Matthew Cougle
The course is challenging for beginners and advanced golfers. There are some very unique holes that can be a lot of fun. The grounds, cart paths, tee boxes, etc are all very well maintained. The best conditions of all the Baltimore Classic 5 courses.
The driving range is great. It gives you a true sense of how far you are hitting it. I have been to too many where the driving range is an afterthought and you are hitting down (or up) a hill and not giving you a true read of your distance.
Mike Wann
The course is in pretty good condition and the price was reasonable. Will definitely be back
Bizster “Bizster”
Had a great day of golfing. A lot of dog legs for such a cheap course. A lot of value and a really good driving range to boot.
Richard Rosso
Love this course! Everyone is very nice!
Charles C
A hidden gem in the county. Due to the reservoir that the golf course surrounds they are limited to how they can treat the course. Great place and great views and lots of nature (Deer). And if you don't like a 5 hour round + - get up early and get out early and you can be done in 3.5 hours. Or you can go join a 25k private club !
Timmy
Great course wonderful backdrop of the reservoir for most of the holes. With courses just opening back up after being closed completely to COVID they re doing everything right. No water jugs, 1 person per cart. Several guys are constantly making rounds to take care of the sand traps so you really dont have to touch anything other than credit card machines. Add touchless "tap" to the club house and snacks and you would be all set. Everyone was friendly except grumpy checking out the groups and their carts but it may have just been before he had his coffee when we talked to him. Being that close to the water and seeing a few guys fishing around the course was awesome, they even have a dog that runs off the geese all day so they were nearly non existent, you just had turkeys running around. I will say the only complaint I have is the 1,000+ rounds of ammo going off from th police gun range in the background. I would say just a little distracting at times.
Ed Ehman
A little beat up. Greens slow but soft. Still a beautiful course.
Ethan Adler
Great views of Loch Raven, beautiful course. Only negative is the duck poo, course can get a little beat up due to the heavy play it receives. Some fun holes, shots over the water. Best of the city courses.
Camil Asmar
Awesome experience! Last Saturday I went out to pine ridge, I told played the twilight wholes so by the time I came back in it was dark. I rented clubs from them as well, upon my return I found I was missing a pitching wedge. I went back out on the course (at night) to try and look for it. After 30 minutes I gave up and came back in. I had asked Tony Evans to just charge me for the club and be done with it so everyone could go home. But Tony didn't give up he and I went back out on the course and we found the missing pitching wedge! Tony Evans and the pine ridge staff are excellent and willing to go the extra mile, in addition to this the course is beautiful, can't go wrong!
John Phelps
Great course Very good staff.
Excellent lunch counter Course is well kept. We play there at least once a week
Will Law
Some really nice views here. Fun to play early in the morning. Unfortunately they seem to pack in too many rounds during the day. The pace of play slows up and by the end of the season the course is pretty beat up. Decent value though.
James Smith
Good golf course for new to moderate golfers. I took the intermediate golf class. I highly recommend their classes for the value. Rarely overcrowded. I wish the driving range had options for grass tee boxes, but that is rare in Towson.
James Higbee
Pace of play has improved, Thursday noon took only 4 hours. Fairways had a lot of bare spots. Beautiful views of Loch Raven Reservoir.
El Jay
A fair test of golf. Ample parking. Huge range. Friendly staff. Lots of doglegs. Longer par 3s. Some water carries. Plenty of sand. You can recover from a wayward tee shot unless you are really wild. Some standing water in some bunkers today but it has been raining for days and was drizzling today. Course was otherwise in very good shape.
Allan Cannington
Sadly, in just a few weeks the fairways have died. I hit numerous shots off dirt. I love the course and will look forward to my next visit but with all the rain, wondering how this happened!
Andrew Bartels
A friend once described Pine Ridge Golf course as social welfare for the middle class. In many ways he was correct. This county operated course situated on the shores of Loch Raven reservoir is a local gem. Just watch out for the herds of white tailed deer that can block fairways due to their numbers. There is a great driving range on the way in. Clubhouse includes a snack bar and Proshop.
Jim Bloom
Beautiful golf course. Well maintained.
Paul Oliver
Glad to see they survived the storm. Course normally plays 5 hours due to rangers not moving slow play along. But, last two times it has played just over 4. Hopefully they continue this control of the course.
Sanghun Samuel Lee
The course is in a good shape. The back nine can be a bit tricky as you'll have to back off on your driver on a few holes. Enjoyed today's round.
George E. Williams
Great scenery (on a lake)....over priced...the fairways were horrible. Location was everything - it was the only course within a reasonable distance from my hotel.
Embassy Suites outside Baltimore.
Fantastic practice areas.
Bina Ramamurthy
Nice golf course. We went there to check it out to play in future. They have private coaching and also a golf academy for kids.
j ro
Golf was great. Although do not get food from their. I got a chicken cheese steak and it was literally a Peice of chicken breast mixed in with steak ems meat on a hotdog roll with American cheese on top. Idk if the girl was trained but it definitely seemed like she was lost behind the Grill.
Bill Monroe
Nice facilities. Very scenic. Course in good condition although greens are on the slow side. Employees we encountered friendly and jovial. A great place to play.
Andrew Hoxie
Beautiful course and well maintained. Although I can't get over how rude the starter was and will take my 50 bucks elsewhere next time
Art Cederakis
Excellent public golf course. Even single digit handicappers will find the course enjoyable and challenging from the tips.
Very nice views.
Darren Black
Decent course. Fairways aren't really forgiving. They're not narrow but they're not wide either. The day I went they were aerating the greens my putting experience wasn't the best.
Gregory App
Well kept greens. They even have marshals to help keep up the pace of play which is not something I've seen elsewhere.
A very nice course at a very reasonable price.
Michael Krom
Great course. Lots of dog legs hole. In great shape from tee box to green. Play was slow. Take your time, enjoy the great wild life.
Cherlyn Brewington
One of the most beautiful golf courses I have seen. Great atmosphere, and great food as well! Highly recommend.
Frank Staples
The course is very nicely maintained. It is long but not exceptionally difficult. I played on aRrival morning and the pace was good. The pro shop and restaurant are good.
Ben Cruz
Great layout. Some lovely views of Loch Raven. But unfriendly staff. One of the pricier courses among the city's munis.
Patrick Barton
Great track. Go early, play quickly. Saturday morning my buddy and I played 18 in 3 1/2 hours.
George Hoffman
Beautiful course-especially this time of year-always slow play-and you better have a drawl instead of a fade! Great wildlife and lake views
KRG Gootz
Great golf course. Highly recommend you get a early tee time before it gets crowded. A little pricy but an overall good course.
Ramsey Sotir
Great range... course is really nice considering its public. It can play SUPER slow so be careful about when you go out
